The Obama "Recovery"
— Ace

Measuring employment by the actual labor participation rate, the fraction of adult Americans actually working.

This is a recovery?

No. A recovery happens when the trajectory of the economy either catches and surpasses its previous level, or at least can be seen to be on the path to doing so.

This is not a recovery. This is bouncing along the bottom. There is no recovery.

16 That anyone -- anyone with even just two tiny little brain cells to rub together -- actually believes for a nanosecond that this economy is on the upswing has got to be the most incomprehensible thing that has happened thus far in this silliest of silly seasons.

17 Every data point suggests we're slipping backward. If it keeps going like this (UE, GDP, exchange rate of the dollar) and we'll end up talking about Q3 as the beginning of the slip into recession. FORWARD!

21 When Romney wins, and begins to remove the unsustainable spending with borrowed money, only the optimism of some private sector hiring can save us. Mitt better be a good salesman.

O/T but, in Dallas a $15 million interstate overhaul has been put on hold due to the discovery of an endangered spider.  The funny thing, they had to kill it and disect it to make sure it was in fact the type of spider they thought it was.

There was a woman on fox defending the decision.  "We don't know if some other major animal feeds on this spider and if it's death may cause a major damage to the eco system".

Posted by: Adam at October 01, 2012 03:57 PM (tG36f)

45 no, any stock market or futures chart reader would call this "support", and when you break through support, you can never tell when you'll bottom out.
But, of course, Romney will be blamed, because only a second Obama Admin could have cured the problem. At least one can look forward to Chris Matthews having a heart attack on air.

49 Some people are just very comfortable with the thin veneer of lies being projected: Obama is a great President, the economy is getting better, we're definitely in recovery, there are no scandals in the Obama Administration (otherwise we'd see it on NBC/CBS/ABC/CNN, right?).

Nice fluffy lies, like a cool pillow for your tired brainmush.

50 Hate on it. Every dollar I had invested is worth two now. Money doesn't lie, and money is voting Obama.

51

That's a great graph.

Best I've seen, actually...as far as making the point so well.

We've got a Third of our Workforce...out of work.

A Third.

They keep using that "8.1% Unemployment" figure...but neglect to say that it's only the people who are receiving unemployment checks.

So it's really lying to the public to say that we have '8.1% unemployment'....when a Third of our workforce is unemployed!

52 Barack Obama for the love of god....just fucking take thirty steps back, reassess what you are doing...

53 Once again, on a dead thread, I'll point out that Congress and the Senate had at least as much to do with this as Obama - though I think I can say now that Obama's team has broken at least as many laws as they have. Ironically they're right about one thing - it takes a couple of years for a lot of these economic effects to happen. Like, the two years after the left took over Congress and the Senate in 2007. So, 2009. When the tailspin started.

55 It looks like there was an uptick before the Dems won back Congress in 2007. Then it was downhill all the way.

Posted by: davod at October 02, 2012 12:16 AM (C5U9L)

56 davod. Why don't the Repubs bring this up when the Dems say that Barry O inherited this mess? Nancy and Harry started this mess, not Bush.
