last I checked it was over 100k per person. The destroyed houses I saw looked to be worth about 20k a piece. Add the value of a big screen tv, an old junk car, and shitty couch and I think they made a profit on it.

Most importantly, it does undermine Obama's nicely cultivated public image in the media as a racial uniter. He looks like a phony who would be better suited to community organizing than the Presidency. It just may make some of those swing voters that voted for him last time a little uncomfortable voting for him again. After all, Obama's misleading comparisons between Katrina and 9/11 -- especially regarding the financial aid the federal government provided and the circumstances behind both situations -- certainly aren't going to be received very well by many people.

Team O would like nothing better than to make this election be about race (cf. the "Romney is the whitest guy ever" meme). Pushing this video (displacing e.g. Libya from MSM talking head discussion) would be a way to suggest that *Republicans* are making this election about race, are playing the race card.
Perfect example: cf. Althouse's "emotional" reaction to Rush playing the Obamaphone lady video, for which Althouse received much shit from her commenters and others (deservedly, but it's still instructive, because Althouse is a good bellwether for a certain kind of voter). Just because Rush replayed a video of something that actually happened, a woman who happened to be black saying something stupid about entitlements, Althouse was repelled by Rush and by association Romney and Republicans: Rush playing the video gave her an "impression" of "racism."
All this Wright stuff is old news. Does it really hurt Obama to bring it up again? Or does it help him, by reminding everyone that he's BLACK (the historic first black POTUS) and by giving pro-Obama pundits an opportunity to decry Republican racism? As if what Republicans are attacking Obama for is his blackness?
Like I said, probably just being paranoid, just speculating. But it's possible.

Agreed, but again, this is a much stronger argument *before* he becomes President. Now that he has been for almost four years, it's ineffective.
We can look at the record. An honest, Clint Eastwood-esque assessment of the *record* shows he is better suited to community organizing than the presidency. Reasonable people don't need the tape to see this, and the tape won't persuade those who aren't persuaded by the record.

The best use for this would be to use it as a club to beat the real enemy with; the media. They were there, they reported this speech and carefully cleansed it of anything controversial. Don't play up the race angle, in fact don't even make the speech itself the focus at all. Simply keep pointing out that this speech should have been newsworthy but was intentionally spiked. Keep asking the question that if this was spiked and (add a couple more from the oodles of other examples) was spiked, just how much else has the media kept from us? Hammer that point over and over until people are sick of it, then hammer it a couple more times while demanding they come clean and give up every frame of raw video in their vaults so we can vet THEM on their vetting of Obama.
Yes I'm talking about using this to force the LAT to give up the infamous tape they admit to holding. But more than that. Much more. Better still force them onto defense and then to naked self preservation mode. A news cycle when they are defending themselves in a cycle they can't attack Romney.
Obama is nothing without them, deny him the air cover the media provides and he couldn't be elected dog catcher in his pricey Chicago enclave.

I think a lot of people on our side are desperate to try to find a "damning" video of Obarky to match the supposedly "damning" 47 Percent video used against Romney -- a kind of tit-for-tat video battle, if you will -- so they're hoping to find something here that can be extrapolated into a damaging soundbite or commercial slogan. You know, a "You want damning videos? Okay, here's one back at you" kind of thing. Personally, I'm not seeing it -- pretty typical "black Democrat Senator pandering to a black constituency audience" shtick.

In May following Katrina I did a hurricane tour. I didn't seet out to do it but after walking outside my Biloxi hotel in the morning, having arrived at midnight, and seeing that all around it had been destroyed, I was fascinated. I spent three days driving and taking photos.
The MS coast was something like I never could have imagined. On the other hand, after visiting New Orleans, I have to admit that Shep Smith was not exaggerating. It was truly one of those situations where as bad as he had made it seem, it was so much worse. Driving I-10 was like taking a conveyor belt tour through hell. It was not isolated flooding.
There aren't enough construction crews in the world to restore all that was lost to Katrina.

What the tape says is that Obama is absolutely, utterly shameless in what he is willing to do for himself. It emphasizes his insincerity, even to an audience of black Christians. The same character flaw revealed by prevailing on governmment contractors to not follow the law so that his campaign will be unaffected.
He is most certainly an ideologue, but only insofar as adherence to that ideology benefits him.

I'm not really sure what Obama was trying to get at in that speech.... he kind of goes all over the place.... one thing is for sure though, he wants everyone that actually works for a living to "invest" more in those that don't. Obamas marxism shines through no matter what issue he is giving a speech on. He is a low life f*cking community activist to the core... agitating for more government every step of the way.

You didn't, which was a mistake. You said "this" strategy didn't work in 2008......but failed to mention our nominee and his campagin never employed "this" strategy and in fact denounced it. Yet, you pretend it was "this" strategy that caused us to fail w/o actually thinking that maybe, just maybe, it was our brilliant nominee refusing to engage Obama on these topics.

Katrina definitely flushed the rats from the sewers, no doubt. Awful human behavior, just awful. But still, the devastation of that storm has left an impression on me that will never be forgotten.
The most heart-stopping thing I saw was the drive on I-10 and looking out for miles and miles, as far as the eye could see, and seeing roofs with holes in them and S.O.S. signs on top. Just incredible. However, the most heart-wrenching thing I saw was in Bay St. Louis where a tiny wooden house, about 1/4 mile from the bay, had been completely run-through by the surge. There was nothing but two exterior walls and the roof remaining but the owners had hung a sign from one of the small, mangled trees asking that the cleanup crews please not remove that tree because her son had planted it for her. I cried. I literally cried.
The human spirit is an awe-inspiring blessing.
