It was interesting to hear President Obama speak
at the Democratic National Convention.
I found it extraordinarily disappointing -- because in his speech four years
ago and in the years since, Barack Obama laid out a whole series of lofty
promises.
Yet I can think of very few promises Barack Obama has actually kept.
He said he'd raise incomes for people -- but in reality they've gone down by
over $4,000 a family.
He said he would cut the deficit in half -- but in reality he doubled it.
He said he'd create more new businesses and encourage entrepreneurs to do so --
but in reality we are at a 30-year low in new business start-ups.
He said he'd get Americans back to work -- but in fact, unemployment has been
above 8% for 43 straight months, and 23 million Americans have stopped looking
for work, are out of work, or are underemployed. It is a national tragedy.
Paul Ryan and I have a plan to put America back to work with good jobs and
higher take-home pay. Our jobs plan will add 12 million private sector jobs,
reduce federal spending, cap federal spending at 20% of GDP, and preserve and
protect Social Security and Medicare for today's and tomorrow's seniors.
If we focus on these five areas -- energy, education, trade, deficits, and
championing small business -- America's economy and America's middle class will
come roaring back to life.

After I got hurt, I was given a tasking to act as a sharpshooter control at the Downtown Hell MOUT training course at Ft. Benning and watched six GIs handle teams of 24 Federal LE in many cases using urban guerrilla tactics. My legs were bad so I was in a range safety tower and gigged guys who froze in the open or wandered off the course boundaries. The two sets of teams that stood out at tactical prowess were oddly the US Marshals and the USSS.
Make of that what you will the absolute worst were the BATF.

I just discovered how to turn off tracking in IE. I especially don't want FacePalm tracking me after I saw the article about the FBI lauching their billion-dollar face-recognition system. I'm just about ready to delets my FB account.

How?
Look at the top RH for the little gear symbol. Click on "Safety" then "Tracking protection". You'll see "Your personalized list". Click on that, and you'll see a list that IE compiles based on the sites you visit. Mine was pretty long. Just go through and "block" all the sites. You may have to do that one at a time.
If you have another browser, you'll have to see how they do it, or head over to Bad Blue and find that link that shows you how FB tracks you online. They're pushing something called "IDT" or a similar product. Might be free (?).

Which reminds me, I had a bunch of Silver Hatchet fish in my last tank. Had a "test tube" heater with a light in it. Must've pissed them off, cause they'd swim up next to it and smack it with their tail, since there was a small bit of space between it and the side of the tank, it made a pretty distinctive sound when they hit it.
Especially at 2:30 am. It was their favorite sport.

yeah that is what I have too, but apparently the one I have is an "older" unit, I bought it used from an ad in the paper, I figure that's a good way to get started since it is relatively cheap

I also agree with nerdygirl that Biden might (seriously) have some brain damage, to the part of his brain that affects judgement and self control. The guy seems to have no filter in place.
As stupefying as the Biden pics are though, the Obama one is just bizarre. Hints of gay with a heaping dose of wimpiness.
It's funny that the campaign is targeting women. To me these pictures are disturbing not only visually but with what they convey about the judgement of all involved. I dunno, maybe Dem or indie women like this stuff but I can't imagine any women would.
I suppose we should just be happy about Dem ineptness. Would love to be a fly on the wall to see Mooch and Dr Jill's reactions though.

Yes, the first one is a neutron bomb to insurance. Unless they allow no price controls on the insurance provided. The latter is a particularly stupid idea, and in fact yet another pander-for-big-govt-as-Julia's-Dad. I find it absolutely morally offensive to force us to pay up for 'the plan that goes to 26 year old kids', on the level of making Catholic nuns buy contraceptives.

Well in fairness, the pictures are AP pictures. So it either means that (a) the campaigns think those pics actually help rather than hurt, or (b) the AP is actually acting independently from the Obama campaign. I am not sure which one is more believable.

Well teej just based on my one day of shopping at PetSmart in the fish section, if you want to become a gazillionaire, all you have to do is take a bit of plastic that costs maybe 5 cents to produce, make it look somewhat like an aquatic plant, and then sell it for $6.79 each and make a boatload of profit

Sure I didn't realize it at first but the hour or so I spent per week maintaining the tank was a great way to escape. Not to mention the time spent watching the fish eat and swim. Pretty nice. I went from little fancy guppys to gouramis neon tetral little cat fish and such. By the time I moved to FL and closed down the tank I was breeding discus fish. very nice. Cichlids are the rage now and are colorful. convicts and dempseys are very territorial. One very cool tropical is the silver arowana from south america. There is a relatively small contingent on the left that object to "torture" on principle. I may disagree with them about what treatment constitutes torture, but I actually have some measure of respect for them.
The majority of Dems (voters) and virtually all Dem politicians, however, just take the position contrary to the GOP, particularly Bush. They co-opted the moral currency of the principled group and used it as a weapon to beat up the right. In this sense the principled lefties are just useful idiots. The media gave a big megaphone to them in the Bush years, but now that a Dem's in the WH, they've shut it down.

Somebody said upstream those pics were taken by the admin (not pool media) so I assume the campaign had to approve their distribution. And that's what confounds me, that they actually think the pictures help their side.
Also chemjeff, good luck on the aquarium. I tried one a few years ago and killed all the fish. Better luck to you!

Whoa there, the little fish commonly called algae-eaters will actually sucker feed on your other fish while they're sleeping on the bottom.
Get a Plecostumus sp? or Loach instead.
Also you need to put fish in to get fish waste to get a going colony of bacteria breaking down the ammonia in the filter. Throw a few 1$ tetras or 1-2 feeder guppies.
Also, blah Chris Collingsworth.
Also, remember Stihlers so tough they took they're own safeties spleen out.

You might be right, I really didn't pay attention. Like you mentioned too, I figure AP is just a branch office of the Obama corp and thus wouldn't print anything unapproved. Surely somebody in an actual news agency realizes how skeevy those pics are though. Maybe there's a mole, heh.

arowanas are kind of new on the seen the drawback is they can outgrow tanks and get so big they are not fit for community tanks, You will leard for 55gal to buy fish tha are top feeders,middle feeders and the bottom feeders. My local pet shop guy taught me that because it gives a nice presentation as opposed to all one level feeders.
