— Open Blogger Below the fold is the Walking Dead Season 3 trailer from Comic-Con. The new season looks to be just as intense and action packed as the first two. Will the group finally smarten up and acquire some military grade firepower? Will they learn to sleep in hardened structures? Will someone finally put a bell on Carl so he can't simply wander off and endanger the group? The season premier is October 14th on AMC.

That was unrealistic (yeah, I'm saying that about a TV show with zombies) to me.
the rest of the season was good.

I love the show. Its hopeful message and utopian vibe is very soothing. :-)

What sucks about The Walking Dead is that it is so slow and boring that you might as well take up knitting rather than watch it in order to get your rocks off. But, other than that, it sucks harder.
Maybe Knight Rider will rise from a phoenix and have a really cool car and action packed adventures such as running over Walking Dead zombie ass at 100 mph routinely.
One can hope.

I'd like to see an updated Get Smart. All the story lines for the first season are written...just use the way Obama has handled our intel and foreign affairs.
I just thought of a cool browser add-on. A "cone of silence" that would use some sort of DPS algorithms to detect Obama's voice and mute it whenever its in some video/audio clip.

"I just finished the first season, and I'm curious; did anybody look at the acres of flesh eating corpses and say "fuck this" and move to Alaska?"
Every time we try to move anywhere, we inevitably come to these miles-long traffic jams of abandoned cars on the freeway.
Which makes navigation kinda difficult.
And miles-long traffic jams of abandoned cars also invariably means miles-long roving herds of walkers...
I think the more interesting question - to physics majors at least - would be: How long can the walkers survive without an obvious source of energy?
When the walkers run out of squirrels and moles and rats to eat, what then?
Can they transform themselves into vegetarians?
Will they freeze to death in the winter?
Will they thaw the next spring?
Stay tuned...

During the prison storyline in the comics they almost started to show some intelligence. The made long pokey spears that could be used to kill zombies through the fence without any ammunition problems. The only real issue was whether the zombies would pile up so high that they be able to climb up and over the fence but that could be solved easily enough by seeing if zombies burned hot enough to destroy the fence. If not you just have a zombie roast once in a while to reduce the size of the stack.
Even if you assume your group is the only survivors left on the whole planet, the number of zombies that can converge on your location has to be fairly limited. Unless there is some regenerative capability the zombies are going to get slower and less dangerous as time goes on. It should be possible to eliminate the local population and move the fence line farther out until you have a good amount of arable land to have crops ready for when the supply of long shelf life food stuffs runs out.
You can look at 'Day of the Triffids' as the pre-cursor to the zombie apocalypse storyline. Once they achieved a certain level of stability the human civilization made a comeback and pushed back the enemy. And the Triffids could reproduce on their own, making them an enemy with far better endurance than zombies.

I saw the first season and saw no reason to go back for more. The only episode I want to watch is the one where that dumbass wife gets entirely eaten by zombies and then, after they crap her out, the crap gets set on fire.
Breaking Bad, now. Bryan Cranston deserves all those Emmys. His transformation from sick, weak taker of shit to ice-cold, bad-ass maker of shit is terrifying and exciting.

Is it me, or do the Zombies seem uncouth?

I agree that Season 2 started a bit slow, but it did pay off in the end, and I think Season 3's going to rock.

Two people argue, two other people argue, two other people argue, two other people argue, two other people argue, "Where's Carl?!?", the first two people argue again, the other two people argue again, zombie, everybody argues.

First episode of second season when they were all whining about how they had no water and boo hoo and they were stuck in a traffic jam and hey! Look! A BOTTLED WATER TRUCK! and they ignored me made me give up. Do not even get me started on the whole oh those women don't need to be able to defend themselves pat pat pat thing.

...the part with the piggy bank where the guy stashes his cash in the dead pig was pretty funny though...

Ignoring the other points for now, why the heck are so many people so eager to jump to Shane's defense for killing Otis?
First of all, how exactly was Otis at fault for what happened to Carl? He was shooting at a deer, not at a kid who stupidly walked within ten feet of a wild animal unarmed and thus couldn't be seen from the other side anyway. If anyone should have atoned for him getting shot, it was the two people who were dumb enough to take him into the woods with him in the first place **cough cough**Rick and Shane**cough cough** Not that Otis shouldn't have felt bad about the accident, but should he really have paid for it with his life?!
Plus, is this really what we're saying? That anything goes in a zombie apocalypse, that the ends always justify the means? (I'm especially curious why so many conservatives embrace this, just because Shane is the "shoot first and ask questions later" type.) And if Shane was "doing what needed to be done," why didn't he just toss the medicine to Otis and sacrifice himself? I mean, why not? Otis apparently was a pretty good hunter, seemed like a level-headed guy; arguably as worth keeping around as Shane was, if not more so. I don't care what the situation is, you don't just decide for someone that they're going to be the sacrifice and not you.
