Thread 5: Reactions, MSNBC Hitting the Minibar, Etc.
— Ace

On MSNBC, they are insisting that the statement "You want an American for big jobs" is a "birther" attack on Obama.

From AD, here's a partial transcript:

Ed Shultz: He said "When the world needs to do really big stuff, we need an American."

Ed Shultz: That was a bither line.

Ed Shultz: I don't know how else to take that.

Ed Shultz: That was below the belt.

Maddow: It struck me the same way.

They're also deriding Clint Eastwood as being unwatchable and inarticulate. Remember, this is Rachel Maddow and Al Sharpton and Ed Schultz lodging this complaint.

The most amazing thing here was Ed Schultz' passionate insistence that Clint Eastwood, ventriloquizing (by suggestion) "Go f*** yourself" into the mouth of the Invisible Obama, was a nasty, degrading attack, because Obama is a "family man" and presumably would take offense at this language.

Right. Chicago politician. Chose Rahm Emmanuel as his chief of staff, a famously profane man.

Right, Ed. Poor Obama. How will he get over it.

60 I'm watching MSNBC to see if my prediction was right, and so far it isn't. Chris hasn't spoke about it yet, but the senile angle seems to be their play so far.

The thing here is that they mock and mock with smug self righteousness. Hayes thought it ludicrous that people applauded the line about the seas receding, because people are doing studies about mass transit if such a doomsday scenario comes to pass, completely oblivious to the fact there is a more urgent doomsday scenario staring us right in the face.

These are the guys wearing their high school letter jacket at their alma mater's game, but they're now in their 20's, and people are surprised they would still waste their time with this. It's just about over, but they don't know it, and it's pathetic.

226 Chris Matthews think Romney was mocking science because it's beyond Chrissy's comprehension that Mitt could be making fun of Obama's hubris to claim that his nomination would slow the rise of the oceans.

Isn't it "anti-science" to claim that you're slowing the rise of the oceans.

Too fine a point for Matthews, no doubt.

392 The most delicious aspect of this convention, in every respect, was the almost non-detectable baiting of the Left.

For me, Republicans have been the dimwit party.  At this convention, they have had the subtlety of Shakespeare.

The Left has had the freedom of an unchallenged bully for several decades.  This convention challenged the Left in ways the Left does not get.  The bully, by the power within it, mastered.

Obama is not smart enough to realize his campaign of personal destruction is being used against him.  The louder the bleats of shrill accusation by the Left, the more the Left looks absurd and irresponsible.

All brought to you by the truth, imagine that.

It's obvious that the whole lot of MSNBC pukes went into a meeting room before the convention and happily agreed to smear anything and everything that came out of the convention as raaaaaaaaaaaacist!

What is not obvious to them is that people are beyond being annoyed by political correctness and frivilous accusations of racism.  It's really starting to piss all the sane people in the country off.

442 Just went back and watched Clint's speech after seeing all the comments here ... I saw a brilliantly conceived bit executed with a wee bit of stumbling. Mrs. Grumpy (much younger than i) was not amused but I laughed my ass off and hope to be that coherent when I am that old. I think it was effective and will get a lot replay making it even more effective, especially for the older demographic. Make my day, indeed.

443 I went to a wedding in NYC. The groom's uncle gave a speech. They are English, and they are very big on speeches. This was a very posh wedding, with a wonderful band with amazing soul singers. The uncle's speech started to wander into some very dangerous waters. We were concerned that at some point we may have to pry the band off the old man. It was hilarious because the tension was awful. I ha the same feeling tonight

Eastwood using the 'empty chair' routine to ridicule Barky was hilarious.

Barky has been MIA....as president.

So it was a perfect way to stick it to him, visually...without saying it.

I guess since virtually all the professional comedians of our day....are too chicken shit to scoop up any of the comedy gold that the SCoaMF is throwing off.....some people are just not 'getting' the humor.

I'm thinking that the fact that Barky's palace guards are tearing at their hair over Eastwood's performance....is an indicator that Clint hit the mark.

He's 82 ad0libbing is not as fast as it once was for the guy, BUT I was watching him look at the scene as line drawings in his mind and he got his wind and made his point.

Clint teared up a bit over 23 million Americans being unemployed, and he got pissed over our problem with lawyers trying to run the country. We loved it! Mittens speech was the right tone, right content, and right approach to the groups he has to win over in order for the country to be saved. Most of us are political junkies, and we get the dangers the country faces, and foreign policy disasters to come home to roost. We are ABO, but some needed to have a candidate they could trust, and was not a fire breathing Dem slayer. We need a serious man for some very, very serious problems. We win, they lose. And kudos to the El K! #111-The line up next week for the DNC is epic fail compared to what we have seen this week. The enemy is doomed.

494 Liberals can claim that they care about old people, but as soon as one older person speaks out against their candidate they resort to delusional attacks. They don't care about older people. We care about our parents and grandparents. We treat them with respect and love. "Clint Eastwood said something I don't agree with?" He's crazy, delusional, and a racist.

Most Americans respect Clint Eastwood. He was the second generation of John Wayne. I don't think liberals realize how powerful Clint's message was tonight, and how important it was in motivating the older population to vote for Romney.

Posted by: jwbs at August 30, 2012 08:57 PM (liFiG)

495 Clint reached out to the over 70 audience and nailed it like a pro. He reassured them its okay to fire this bozo, he made them laugh, he pointed out some of the hypocrisy of Obama, and in a nice way pointed out what a mean bastard he is to people that upset him. He played the likable, harmless old guy trying to make sense of a strange situation and did it with style. Your grandparents/parents will love it.
He made it acceptable to vote for Romney for people who were leaning Obama because he seems so nice and says he's trying hard and besides I don't want people to think I'm racist.
He reassured them: we gave him his shot. He blew it.

516 Eastwood speaking to an empty chair is great.  He made his point to those willing to hear it.   Don't let these guys push the "he's just an old man" angle too hard without reminding them that you are concerned about Biden's mental capacity.

These clowns on MSNBC have the vapors over Romney mocking Obama's claim that the oceans will recede.  Well, first of all, the oceans have not receded.  So that on its own is grounds for mocking.  Lets just assume that is still open for debate though.  You still have Chris Hayes and others getting the vapors over that segment of his speech, and that tells you absolutely everything.

These are people that think global warming, built on dubious science, is most serious indeed.  As Chris Hayes said, there are studies (STUDIES!!!) looking at how such a doomsday scenario might affect the transportation grid in our most heavily populated cities.  Don't you get this???  Subways might fail!  This is serious business, guys.

Meanwhile people struggling with unemployment or underemployment is an afterthought.  They don't even have public transit to their jobs that they don't have.  Not important.  Subways are hypothetically at risk to those that have jobs in metropolises.  What we really need to focus on here is how Romney downplayed the rise and fall of sea levels.  He then suggested jobs might be a more important focus, and this is an outrage.

That, in my opinion, is what MSNBC needs to be mocked on so far tonight. Now, I've been drinking some beers, because I think we have these guys in deep, deep trouble after this week.  Still, I am pretty sure that portion of the speech, and the liberal reaction to it, tells you everything you need to know about why these guys are screwed here.

517 Mr. Eastwood is a fine and experienced actor. He is much more than a fine director. Do you seriously think that he didn't know exactly what he was doing and saying on that stage tonight? I think even the libtards will catch on eventually but by then it will be too late. They've been had.

The Islamists got nearly the entire Middle East.
The Russians got us to abandon our missile defense system in Eastern Europe and to stand by in Syria.
The Iranians got all of the time in the world to make uranium.
The Marxists in South America got a free pass and had the US try to topple another government for them.
The Chinese... well hell this worries me because I am sure they got what they wanted but I don't know what it was.
The terrorists got us out of Afghanistan and we even told them when we were leaving.

The crowd didn't get it, but it gains power on repeated viewings.

With that said, he did stumble a bit around the main point: the "If you're a Dem or GOP or libertarian . . . it's okay to let him go." He did muck up the transition to it, which added to the critics' ammo.

But like Norm, overall, the whole act was much better the second and third time around

Posted by: The Q at August 30, 2012 09:32 PM (B/yDO)

592 I concur that the Eastwood routine was much better the second time watching.  At first you are a little confused where he is going... but going back again it is a perfectly normal comedy routine, albeit a bit rough with Clint recalling some of his lines.

-----

About Romney... anyone else notice that his voice was much stronger the first half of the speech?  Very calm and strong.  I wonder if the emotional bits in the middle may have drained some of his energy.  At the end he sounded more like he is at a typical rally.

I am not sure what the Democrats will do once Obama loses. I would like to think that the Dems might use their time in the wilderness to think about what they have become from 00 to 12. But of course they won't because its America's fault for being too stupid to understand how great of a leader Obama is. It has nothing to do with the nihilistic/divisive/managing America's decline policies of Obama or is general unwillingness to lead. This is what happens to a political party when it chooses a human messiah who is just an empty suit.

I didn't listen to Condi's speech.  No matter what she says now, she can never be forgiven for having endorsed Barky in 2008, while she was in the Bush administration.  And she did endorse him in every way possible, save those exact words.

That was an unforgiveable sin.  Totally unforgiveable.  I wouldn't trust Condi with anything.  From inside the administration she had to come out and say that the ineligible idiot who mouthed every idiotic marxist rote-learnt line would be a decent Precedent.  Pathetic and inviting danger to America (which we have all seen).

I don't know why she spoke at the convention.  She had no business being being within 1000 miles of the place.

Powell was always pretty squishy on being a conservative.  He kinda, sorta, somewhat leaned to the right, but was never a big ideologue and was liberal on some pretty major issues.  It really wasn't surprising he wound up going over to the other side.

For that matter, I was kind of surprised to see Clint Eastwood doing this since he was always more of a libertarian than a conservative.  Now, the are Democrat-libertarians and there are Republican-libertarians--He's definitely identified much more with the Republican Party, but the few people on our side complaining about this should really be happy that, when all was said and done, he actually endorsed Romney.

As far as I know she never endorsed Obama.

She most certainly did.  As I said, not in those exact words but she went out of her way to insure people that he wasn't exactly what he anyone with a brain knew he was and that "he would make a fine President", or something equally vomitous.  She was in the administration at the time and had no business saying anything about it, to start with, let alone trying to assure people about a near-retard who hated AMerica and the West with every fiber of his pathetic body.

If she was ambiguous about McCain, I can hardly blame her.

I can certainly blame her.  I voted for that miserable piece of shit because there clearly was no alternative.  Condi didn't care about America.  She worked to fuck America over, and did it from a position that she should have not been saying anything.

Look up her speech and try to imagine Powell giving it.

Posted by: cm9000 at August 31, 2012 02:29 AM (lzvtR)

Like I said, I don't care what she says, now.  She did as much damage as she could.  SHe should be ashamed of herself.  She has nothing to say that I care to listen to.

And Powell is worse than her.  The way he let the whole Bush administration be dragged to court and brought to a standstill for over a year while he knew, the whole time, that it was all a witchhunt.  He's beyond slime.

I'm only telling you my thoughts about her. I want nothing to do with her.  If you like her, then fine.  I think she's awful and has done terrible damage to America.  And that's aside from the fact that she really sucked as SecState.

Personally, I wish they would make her NFL Commisioner so I didn't have to hear about her politically, again.  I'm amazed anyone thinks she's an asset of any sort.  But, that's just my view.

The classic 44 Magnum line.

How long before we hear that the RNC chose Clint Eastwood, because they like seeing black people shot. Or it being a metaphor for violence against the SCOAMF.

707 We need to accept the reality of this.  We probably have an ever so slight edge after this.  We expect the Dem's to overplay their hand, thanks to Todd Akin (my state's senate candidate), and fumble the ball celebrating abortion while we are serious about the issues of our day.  They probably will botch this, because they live in a vacuum, but we should assume they won't.

We should factor in the possibility that these guys actually are politically savvy.  That even though it has appeared that we took the Mediscare ball away from them, they will find a way (class warfare) to level this.

We have a fundraising advantage, because we are more energized.  Michael Moore even sees this, but we need to keep taking advantage of it.  Mitt Romney is about to unleash a barrage of ads, and we need to keep feeding the beast by donating. We have to close this deal even if the candidates aren't our first choice.  I've warmed up to Romney, but even if you don't, accept this situation as it is.

Momentum is on our side.  I see Romney moving to the right, even after primaries.  That is rare, and it needs to be rewarded or we risk shutting that down.

Posted by: dawnfire at August 31, 2012 03:01 AM (eEeH7)

What side do you think you're talking about, here?

You love Condi and what she did.  Good for you. On the Indonesian Imbecile's victory over America:

"As an African-American, I'm especially proud," said Rice, her eyes glistening with emotion, "because this is a country that's been through a long journey, in terms of overcoming wounds and making race" less of a factor in life. "That work is not done, but yesterday was obviously an extraordinary step forward."

An extraordinary step forward, to elect someone who is ineligible, hates our institutions, our nation and our culture and wants to bring disaster to America ... I guess whoever is on YOUR SIDE agrees with that.  I don't.  Barky was a vote of suicide by America.
