Thread For Counting Delegates
— Ace

I'm just assuming -- hoping, I guess -- this goes as planned and there's not some sort of crazy rules-lawyering that gives the nomination to a guy who got about 10% of the vote.

Which apparently is something some people really, really want. For Democracy. And for Freedom. Freedom from the will of the voters, I guess.

As people are tallying up the count in the last thread, I guess this is A Thing that should have a post.

I'm Late, As Usual: Apparently Mitt Romney just crossed 1,095 1,144 votes, which makes him the nominee.

104 saw a video on youtube showing a candidate can win the presidential election with only 22% of the popular vote if he wins the right states.... i understand the purpose of the electoral college when people's ballots had to be brought in by horseback, but i believe the entire system is now flawed. another reason (again, i believe) was they were afraid of the larger states "picking on" the smaller ones (since they have a larger population). "fair?" how is it not fair to allow what the majority of the people want? anyways, hurry up and get here november, my voting hand is itchy!

208 What's this about consumer confidence "unexpectedly" falling to it's lowest level in 9 months? Looks like a sure fire Obama win huh? Even his boyfriends in the Motherfucking Media aren't going to be able to drag his lame ass over the finish line. As the guy that says "finish him" says: Finish him.

215 I think the Tea Party, So-cons, and Palins need to go with them. Leave what is Rockefeller's to Rockefeller. Posted by: Cackfinger at August 28, 2012 06:20 PM (CCHli)p What happend with the rules was a reaction to the chaos and bullying tactics of the Ron Paul cult. If there was a "power grab" by Romney, then he just exploited the situation that Ron Paul created. The Tea Party, Michelle Malkin, Palin, and others were used by the Ron Paul cultists to further their cults attempts of putsch by chaos that worked so well for them in the state/local conventions and caucuses.

218  another reason (again, i believe) was they were afraid of the larger states "picking on" the smaller ones (since they have a larger population). "fair?" how is it not fair to allow what the majority of the people want?

220 223. Exactly. But it was fun watching Malkin explode with her angry face all damn day on twitter. Of course, she always has her angry face on.

221 Saw interview of Ron Paul with Neil Cavuto. The man is 77 years old and yet he sounds like a resentful 7 year old. My god he even sounded whiney about his son having a speaking role.

222 #226, he does seem very concern trollish who has failed his courses in school.  Or he had Marxist teachers who told him everything about how our Founding Fathers were racist oppressive exploiters who wanted to keep the common man down.  Just a dull chisel of tool so ignore.

223 How is it that conservatives felt any solidarity with effing Ron Paul?  I don't get that at all.

I just want to thank Mitt for giving us President Paul Ryan in 2020.  Or possibly 2016 if Mitt develops health issues or something.  But start fiscal reform slowly with Mitt and than get 8 years of real progress with Ryan.  Mmm mmm good.

The Founders were pretty brilliant on the whole, weren't they?  To bad the country has strayed so far from  its  intended form.    However, that is our fault not theirs -- the American people have the governmet they deserve.  Things will only get better if Americans change their expectations of what government is supposed to do.

Ann Romney's maiden name is...Davies.

In honor of her Welsh heritage, she served some homemade Welsh cookies to the press corps, on the plane.

Maybe she will say something in Cymric tonight, the Celtic language of Wales?

Who knows.

Although Kilts are not considered a traditional component of Welsh dress....Kilts have recently become popular in Celtic nations, as a sign of Celtic identity.

It would be cool if Ann Romney made Mitt and Paul Ryan wear a Kilt occasionally.....as a way of conveying the message of...'Thrift', and frugal spending practices.

232 saw a video on youtube showing a candidate can win the presidential election with only 22% of the popular vote if he wins the right states.... i understand the purpose of the electoral college when people's ballots had to be brought in by horseback, but i believe the entire system is now flawed. another reason (again, i believe) was they were afraid of the larger states "picking on" the smaller ones (since they have a larger population). "fair?" how is it not fair to allow what the majority of the people want? anyways, hurry up and get here november, my voting hand is itchy!

Its about what the majority of the states want.  At least in the current system vote fraud in Chicago only screws up Illinois.

234 Can I just say... It's been a long time since we have seen the liberal media collectively shit their pants on national TV. They lose it one by one, but the fear after Palin's 2008 RNC speech will sustain me till my dying days. The panel after, I think I saw it on CNN, was like, "It's been 20 yrs since you've seen color bars. We don't even do them on this station, but we're going to now."

236 From reading the excerpts of Ann Romney's speech, I think she is going to hit it out of the park.

237 "Nothing was going to stand in the way of our love." Sorry, I'm sure she's a lovely woman, but what would that be? Her blondness? His money? He's the nominee. I want to reduce my tax burden and preserve my freedom, and he's slightly better than Obama (I hope.) But the way the knives came out for Palin before the election ended -- and from her own party -- I will never forget. Seeing Huckabee get a pass after doing way worse damage makes me wonder if these elections aren't kabuki. I'm just watching this one to plan my life.

238 Why do Paul fans love Nader so much? Nader isn't liberty loving. He's greenie. I say the Ron Paul supporters will be like the Hillary supporters of '08. They'll probably support Obama.

240 "I say the Ron Paul supporters will be like the Hillary supporters of '08. They'll probably support Obama." My own estimate is around 30%-40%. If the GOP would go after the Kenyan more directly on his sheer lawlessness and the outright menace he poses to the Constitution, you could probably push that number over 50%. "There won't be a Constitution in 4 years if Obama is re-elected blah-blah-blah." Come to think of it, that's not a bad message in general. Ron Paul sez he "cannot fully support Romney". That's a good distance from 2008 when he held a full rival convention, endorsed Baldwin, voted for Baldwin. RP "fully rejected" McCain. OTOH, a lot of the RP supporters are in states that are so Red or so Blue that they can't be the pivot point in anyone's bedrock strategy. Still, grab any low-hanging fruit you can... Besides, Ron Paul has announced he is RETIRING. Not retiring to the White House as president. This whole panic over Ron Paul delegates seems a little overwrought. So they cast their handful of votes for Ron Paul at a convention when no one except Morons) are even paying attention? Don't jump on your chairs just yet, ladies.
