Woods' legions are itching to celebrate his seventh Arnold Palmer Invitational title and the end of a 28-month trophy drought on tour.
He has failed to close out a 54-hole lead in three of his past five chances worldwide, including two months ago at Abu Dhabi. It also happened at the 2009 PGA Championship, caught by Y.E. Yang, and the 2009 Chevron World Challenge duel with McDowell.

FWIW, I don't like Tiger because he's personable and friendly. He's not. In fact, he comes off as cold.
What he's done in his personal life is pretty shitty. He did his wife and children wrong. I'm not excusing that either.
I give him the benefit of the doubt because I see that he's battling some pretty nasty demons. I wish for him to be successful and happy just like I wish everyone who has fallen to be happy and successful.

Tiger has it in him to beat Jack's record if he can keep it together. He's an extremely emotional player.
I work in golf and I think you're right. I see a handful of black golfers but not in significant numbers to suggest that the Tiger phenomenon is happening.
As a sidenote, I do see the number of women golfers increasing. Especially in high school teams. I've seen sophomores that could kick my ass!

No maybe about it. Tiger has actually been back I told friends and called into sports radio stating that when his personal life normalizes he will return to form. I would not be suprised if he is seeing his kids on a regular basis.
The media witch hunt is over. I think the golf related media has figured out that a resurgent Tiger is good for business. If he wins a couple of majors this year or next I will not be suprised.

I fucking hate these mega-conferences. Not only are there now a lot of filler schools with no tradition of rivalry with the incumbent schools, but the huge number of schools now guarantees that they won't even develop a rivalry since they cannot play every year against the same school.

The sports newsters ALWAYS pick a star to follow, whether it's the New York Yankees, the New England Patriots or Tiger Woods.
Tiger is a "designated" golf superstar, and years ago the Sports Media world chose to hitch their wagon to him. And then OOPS! he was found out to be a serial adulterer, and actually a pretty big jerk.
Pretty big mistake, huh? Yeah, like ErikW said up above, if he was personable, it might be easy to like him or forgive him, but actually he's a cold fish with the fans and the galleries that follow the game. Personally, he's just not very likable. And he has had a lot of advantages.
Jack Nicklaus was a big fan of his when he was a teen age amateur. The door was wide open for him to be incredibly successful. And when he started winning, he had a boatload of endorsements, etc. He was making more than $150 million a year. And then he blew it. Poor Tiger.
I don't hate him. I am just totally indifferent to him. He is not a likable person. Not like the late Payne Stewart, who was a very personable and friendly guy to the folks who followed the game on course and filled the galleries. Payne was extremely well liked by almost everyone. A real tragedy in the way he died.

I used to fill an aluminum tube with the pyrotechnic stuff scraped off a couple of boxes of sparklers, close one end completely and crimp the other end almost shut, then mount the thing on a wooden block with the crimped end pointing up.
It wouldn't explode, but it sounded like a jet engine as about an 8 foot blue flame would shoot out the crimped end for about 30 seconds, resulting in a gigantic white mushroom cloud floating lazily down our street, right in front of the incredulous gaping eyes of all the parents on the block.

Interesting. After perusing the MSDS for various gunpowders, they seem to come in to varieties.
1) Primarily nitrocellulose (old fashioned name - guncotton)
2) Dinitrotoluene (TNT's weaker little brother)
I think they all do have small percentages of graphite/carbon to help control the burn rate.
The purity of the DNT or the nitrocellulose probably has a big impact on how clean the powder burns on firing. If you make low purity DNT or your cellulose isn't sufficiently nitrated (added enough nitroglycerine that is), then you have a dirty slow burn and a dirty chamber after you fire some rounds.

That's the one. The bird expert at W&M said the male would attract a new mate, as the female did when her original mr. was killed 8 or 10 years ago. He's attracted, and done the dirty with, a number of females but the expert thinks the females may be young and new to the whole egg laying and nesting thing. Hopes for a clutch this year are not high.

Talented to a degree. Overexposed, overated, tiresome. With a large hot cup of STFU they would do better.
