But it is super true.

Tim Burton has great atmosphere in his movies, but the movies themselves still suck. He's kind of like George Lucas in that respect: George uses special effects in place of characters. Tim Burton uses gloomy atmospherics and jarring set pieces in place of a story.

And yet, if forced to choose between the two, I'd choose Tim Burton any day of the week. At least his stuff is interesting to LOOK at.

It's amazing, isn't it? She's such a lovely woman, yet she has the most godawful fashion sense. I'm hardly one to critique anyone's clothing choices since my personal style is "So long as it's not plaid and stripes together, it's fine," but HBC really boggles the mind.

Loved her in "The King's Speech." Of course, I loved "The King's Speech," period.

THIS. I never watched "Dark Shadows," but from what I know of the series it wasn't some comic riff on a vampire's life in modern times. It's not "The Brady Bunch." I don't know how they're going to get fans of the original to flock to this big screen version when it's nothing at all like the show they love.

(Honestly, I did rather like "Shoot the Moon" and the Buckaroo Bonzai film. "Birdy" with Modine and Cage was pretty good, too.)

Hollywood has had this long ongoing love affair with the dark, twisted, creepiness of Tim Burton's movies....and these hypocrites try to hold themselves up as judge and jury for what is good for our kids?

I've never liked Tim Burton's movies. ....And it is irksome that dark and twisted creepiness is being held up as somehow being 'normal' and 'cool'.

I actually think that most of Big Fish is a great movie, but for me, just for me, the beauty and complexity of the movie was completely ruined and shattered by the ending voiceover/lesson about immortality. In 5 minutes, it reduced all of the really great and complicated themes about this boys' and the problems and beauties of the father's character relationship to his father into one sort of lame thing that was not at all deep or complicated. but that's just me. Like I said, I'll save my pudding for the next guy. Maybe fluffy.

57 I used to really enjoy Burton's work, but each new one for the last several years just makes me sigh heavily. He has obvious talent and has made some really good films, but since even his crap ones are profitable I guess he feels he doesn't have to care anymore.

60 It was Burtons Batman that kicked off the seemingly never to end trend of making movies dark and gloomy. I still think the reason Pixar does so well isn't just that the stories are good, but that the films themselves are bright and colorful and people are longing for that after decades of dark and gloomy.
