— CAC Per Mitchell Research, you're damn right it's in play.
Last poll- Obama by 1.
This one? Romney by 1.
Two firms in a row showing more movement to Romney (Rasmussen went from O+8 to O+6 yesterday). For what it's worth, Mitchell has the largest sample size of Michigan polls released this week, 825 Likely versus 500 for Rasmussen, and with it a smaller margin of error.
Marist (Obama+4), Epic-MRA (Romney+1), WAA (Romney+2) and a host of other firms who found Obama-Romney within MOE either way a few weeks back have yet to release new numbers. When they do they will either confirm this trend or...ok...
Before anyone points out the giggle-inducing PPP release today, remember Wisconsin when they came in sixth for accuracy. They have a long, long way to go before I take their independent polling seriously (like when they switch over to a likely voter model in September). When they are paid (ex- for DailyKos), they sober up. Now? Funnytime at the crazy bar. Give em traffic if you like, but a 14-pt outliner like the one they are smarming about? No linky today. Also amusing- this time in 2008 they had no problem using likely voter models for polling. I wonder why they are holding out this go-around...

The facts are, less than 1% of Michigan's voters are employed by either Chrysler or GM, and I would argue most of those UAW members were Democrat voters anyway. The other 99% have to be resentful they didn't get any special subsidy.
Plus, Romney should point out that both GM and Chrysler DID technically go bankrupt anyway.

Obama's talking about "If you built a business." He's not talking about businesses in the plural. It's "a business", singular.
Then he mentions teachers, and then the roads and bridges, plural.
Then he says, "You didn't build that." "That" is singular, not plural. The only singular subject he was talking about was the business. If he was talking about the roads and bridges he would have said, "You didn't build those."

@21 Exactly, also what is not often mentioned, the support industries for the Autos have been almost wiped out of this economy in last few decades. Small medium sized businesses (and some large) are gone.
These are high paid skilled trades business, pipefitters, machinists, design engineers, etc.
Actually about 50/50 union/non. Granholm was a preview to Obama. Their philosophies match perfectly.

Now I just hang up, so they're not counting me, because it's only July and I shudder to think what October's gonna be like.
My brother, another conservative, who didn't vote for O in 2008 and certainly won't in November, tells every pollster he's going to vote for O, because that way when Michigan rolls big for Romney the pollsters will look like idiots.
And the junk mail is unbelievable.

Boy that'll show 'em.
I wish there was a way to try and do some sort of counter-protest or protection of CFA locations. Like if a bunch of supporters got to the restaraunts WAY EARLY on the planned date, and all filled the place to maximum occupancy. Would be hard, because you wouldn't want to prevent the place from doing business...plus, you know, lots of us have JOBS.

Hardly anybody lives in the UP. It's a pretty place when the sun shines, but it is usually cool at best in the summer. Fall? It's already cold. That place is only for tough people, and that's no exageration.
Houghton,MI (UP), home of Michigan Tech, an excellent school.
All the old copper mining towns and lumber towns. But there are probably more people from Livonia to Flatrock, Michigan ( western suburbs of Detroit) than the whole UP.
Pretty much everything west of I-75 is Republican country. It's Wayne County and Ann Arbor (spit) that are Democrat strongholds. And Flint. And Michael Moore's big house. Those places.

Brought to you in part by our friend "free trade!" Hooray! And by free trade, I mean trade deals that allow our partners to engage in dumping, currency manipulation, and heavy subsidies for their own industries. More of the same coming, with the new Korean trade deal. And now there are some more similar arrangements in the works with other 3rd world shit holes.

I'm saying most of them don't have that much. No math, no literature, no history. You can't allude to those things--or even say them flat out--and expect most voters to understand the meanings behind them. All they can process is what they learned in kindergarten: If you break all your crayons, the teacher will make the other kids give theirs to you, and everyone gets a juicebox after naptime.

Typical. The more urbanized an area becomes the more leftist shitstains live in it. That's due in part to the fact that the cities are where the programs for breeding the underclass are most successful.

@ 128 No doubt partly due to free trade as you say, but of course and I know you know this, it is also due to Mi. Tax/wage/cost of living structure.
A company can't survive paying $28/hr. for nonskilled work that can be trained in the time it takes to train the fry cook @ the local diner.
It was always a loosing proposition. Free trade just exposed it.
The problem is the Autos moving out of State because of the State/Big Three/Union structural problems wiped out all the high paying support jobs as well collapsing the whole damn thing.
In many ways MI. is a microcosm of all that is currently wrong with US policy as a whole.

The area immediately north of a certain Mouse's House, O'Town. We used to have a lot of manufacturing here, automotive, defense, and aerospace.
Another thing I've lost track of is how many places I worked at that are no longer in business. For the longest time, I thought I was the Typhoid Mary of Machine Shops, until I started becoming more aware of politics.

This is a dog whistle, you bet your ass it is.
When Obama said the above sentence, the crowd heard this: The American system was built on the backs of slaves and poor immigrants. Today, the same system is set up to help just the White folk get ahead and to make the rich get richer.

I agree with you but it also says something else almost as damning.
An American system (in his view[gov. roads, gov. bridges, gov. regulation]) that ALLOWS me to thrive? Americans thrive because of freedom. We work hard, we take risks, we make our own life decisions. We have the freedom to be creative in an open marketplace. Adding to this list is easy.
He's giving us his agenda. Sometimes subtle, sometimes not.

Che Guevara = Great, Chik-Fil-A = eeeevil.
This is why, given a GOP apocalypse in November, I want the government gutted, prioritized on the basis of how much a particular program or department benefits the Left.
Let's take away the subsidies that get diverted to DNC coffers, the policies that keep Dem Unions cashflow in the positive, the activist departments that give force of law to their various lunacies, and the socialism gravy train that buys them their votes. Can we balance the budget on the backs of Democrats? YES, WE CAN!

I agree, and have been a long time complainer against our anti-business policies here. If the work were all moving south or west, I'd totally understand and have no beef with that. But generally it's moved a stones' throw over the border into Old Mexico, or over the Pacific to the exotic Orient. The new plants in the South are largely new enterprises set up to service the new Honda/Toyota plants down there.

It's clear you fine people have a profound misunderstanding of Michigan voters.
I have lived here all my life so let me clue you in. Go back to the map of this years Michigan primary using county by county final vote count. Romney won because he carried the East side of Michigan, Detroit, Pontiac, Flint, Saginaw (incidentally, the lib stronghold). Santorum made it close because he trounced Romney on the west side of the State, Grand Rapids and north (conservative stronghold).
So...in this next election, who do you think the conservatives on the west side that supported Santorum will vote for?
And here's the clincher in two parts. First, Romney is highly thought of in Michigan, his Dad was quite popular. And second, the lib stronghold of the east side of Michigan is in tatters. Many have left that area, (I did as recently as 2 months ago) due to it's downward sprial. Check that...death spiral.
Remember where you heard this...Romney will win Michigan this November. Oh yes he will.

Mitt Romney will display his foreign policy prowess this week when he embarks on the first foreign trip of his candidacy, making stops in the United Kingdom, Israel and Poland on a six-day trip his staff describes as a learning opportunity, rather than an effort to define his foreign policy.

Don't stay stuck on stupid dragging embryonic stem cells where they're not needed given that the highest stem cell success rate comes from sources not embryonic.
Ah, the sincerity of Hollywood's messaging. MJFox has talent to sell himself but chooses to be illogical even on his own behalf. Follow HIS money to go figure why he still promotes embryonic stem cell research. I wouldn't be surprised to find that he buys for himself the stem cells that actually prove beneficial, hypocrisy, while deceitfully propagandizing on behalf of the dysfunctional "research" on embryos already proved invalid. Meanwhile, I'll leave Hollywood Feelings to Charles Hurt's marvelous condemnation (Washington Times) open letter.

Live in W. MI. Even the greens here are mostly reasonable. Beat back a couple of windmill efforts.
Last year, on a public beach, a thirteen year old girl who looked like a young Cheryl Tiegs in her maillot from twelve years old was going from one person to another, earnestly inquiring as to whether they knew the owner of the lost puppy she was carrying. She was as safe as if she were in her own home.
IOW, Romney wins here.
