Tony Blankley, RIP
— Ace

He was a... child actor, appearing in "Lassie"? Who knew?

He was a great guy. Always liked seeing him on TV and reading his columns.

If you see the jokes about this being a "smart military blog," that comes from Tony Blankley, tossing the Q a mention. (That has, however, created a widespread misunderstanding that I'm a veteran, which I'm definitely not. When Blankley wrote that, "milblog" was a category often (wrongly) extended to blogs largely covering the war.)

9 Interesting note from the link:
Born in London, he became a naturalized American citizen after his parents moved to California after World War II.

I always thought he was naturalized only a few years ago because his accent didn't seem to be diminished from that of a lifetime Brit's.  I spent a couple of years on Malta as a wee lad, and came away with a full on Queen's English accent.  I lost it shortly after returning to the States.

I have followed Tony for a great number of years, back in '80's when he was a "small" part of the Reagan administration, when he worked for Newt, and read his columns in the Washington Times (my wife's former boss, a big time Dem Lawyer, used to make a little fun of me for subsrcribing to the WT back in the '90's), after Newt left Congress and Tony joined the WT.

A very funny, thoughtful and gracious man, who could combine all three, at the same time, to great effect.

Eleanor Clift is a bit of a crazy shrew. How her late husband, Tom Brazaitas ever put up with her, I'll never know.  Tom was a big Lefty-dem political writer, but he had a tremendous sense of humor.  He made fun of everyone, including himself.  He died of cancer too.

The only thing worse than that gasbag McLaughlin was the horse blankets he wore for sports coats.  Of the paltry number of conservatives on there, I liked Blankley the best; there was something about Barnes that slightly irritated me,  Kondracke lost his fucking mind, Mort Zuckerman only appeared so that McLaughlin would suck his balls about how much money he had, Laura Ingraham wasn't asked back after she shut the dried up crone Clift up and Buchanan is a worthless turd.  Am I missing anybody (I haven't watched it in years).

41 As a kid growing up in the Washington, DC suburbs, Tony Blankley felt like a fixture to me, whether giving a statement as Newt's spokesman/press strategist back in the '90s, commenting on the McLaughlin Group, or writing in the Washington Times editorial page. (And folks, the Washington Times was a much different paper back in the '90s than it is now, with far greater importance in that pre-Internet era...to a young conservative who felt almost completely isolated from any points of view that expressed how I felt, the Times was pretty much all that we had.)  I've always liked the guy, and he actually did play a real role in shaping my political consciousness back in the day (the other public figure was, oddly enough, G. Gordon Liddy, whose midday WJFK radio show was something I would literally sneak a radio into school or cut class to listen to).

RIP, Tony.

Brazaitis was a turd too.  He used to write a mindless column in the Cleveland Plain Dealer that was easily as irritating as his crone wife.  He once invited people who left the ballot blank between Bush and ManBearPig to write in and explain what their thought process was.  I knew a woman who'd left it blank and urged her to write in since I figured he was just collecting data; only to find out that he was chastizing people for helping to elect GWB.  So fuck him in Hell with the barbed cock of Satan.

I'm amazed that the show has survived all these years especially given the host's inexplicable deference to the mindless, shriveled, commie parrot Clift.

For some reason he always found her extra time instead of rationally ordering her to STFU until she had an original thought, and one that didn't sound like an old car breaking at high speed.

69 Blankley was a fun guy to watch. 63 is way too early. I'd noticed he dropped a lot of weight in the last few years. I assumed he was doing it on purpose. He definitely embodied the Reagan-esque "Happy Warrior" ethos. I wish I was more like him in that regard. My temper is too short, though. Sadly I'm at the point where I just can't talk politics with left-wingers I need to maintain cordial relations with. Actually, I can do it on a one-on-one basis. But where I live I'm usually massively out-numbered, so any politics discussion ends up being a gang-up on the right-winger session, which infuriates me.

92 Eh, I feel pretty bad now, confuzzling Blankley with Germond. Honestly, I had forgotten all about old Jack. Tony WAS the one who took his place though, no?

93 Tony Blankley was a class act. Well done, sir.

I am very saddened to hear about Tony Blankley's passing.

Rest In Peace Mr. Blankley.

A good man who was ever gracious.

Germond was irreplaceable.  Thank pointed ears and pitchforks - he was an annoying old gasbag.

Ace and the cob-loggers should start a Dead Pool for 2012.  All the old farts and people who live stupid lives that are anathema to the Ace of Spades should be candidates.

96 We started the kids political education, other than reading books, with watching Tony Blankley taking out Eleanor Clift. They were about 8 years old. They loved it! They are 21 now. When they see Eleanor now they scream, "There is that old, crazy woman we used to watch on tv! Man Mr. Blankely made her look like an idiot". We used some of Tony's books in the kids home schooling as well. They loved Tony, as did we, and he was a great example as to how one can be serious, but hilarious all in one well dressed person. He was tackling the subject of the dangers of Islam well before other Conservatives did, and was proof Conservatives, and Conservatism was intellectual as well as just plain common sense. Contrary to what Libtards like to claim. Our most heart felt condolences to his family. Our thanks to them for sharing him with us, and the country. May God bless them, and comfort them in this most difficult time. America will miss you greatly Mr. Blankley!

RIP Tony. I'll miss your writing.

ace was M.I., Mobile Infantry. You should have seen him doing combat drops in a powered suit on bug planets, totally badass, plus rumor has it he dorked Anne Hathaway in the squeek-hole.

98 Man, I'm sorry to see this.  I didn't realize he was sick.  Rest in peace, Mr. Blankley, and prayers for your family.

99 This is as shocking and discouraging as Mike Kelly's death in Iraq. So much charm, insight, prudence and wisdom gone too soon.

100 I remember him along with Eleanor Clift and the fat guy on the McLaughlin Report. He was the reasonable one.

101 Wow this is soo helpful I have been trying to figure this out on my own for a long time now. Hopefully making this change will help encourage discussion on my blog.
