The Hill thinks that sme crony tax breaks that expired in 2011 should be "extended".

Mostly this is “green” shit so I say piss on them.

This is what we should be doing for corporate taxes.

Lower the rate for ALL of them and eliminate all the crony corruption breaks. It would probably give a net increase in funds. Its just that connected companies like GE would no longer get the lionÂ’s share of the breaks.

Stuart Varney on F&F talking about the Range Fuels cellulose plant in Soperton, GA that has gone belly-up and being sold for pennies on the dollar after getting millions in government money. LOL, when they built this plant I said then it was another “subsidy engine”. Like all “green projects” it wasnÂ’t built to make a profit. It was built to mine subsidies. When the subsidies ran out it went belly-up.  But at least it donÂ’t make the price of groceries go up like the corn boondoggle.

24 The other big story today is the Italian cruise ship disaster. When that story first broke and I linked it I said this kind of shit is not supposed to happen in the 21st century.

Well it turns out the prime reason for this accident wasn't a nav aid flaw. It seems that cruise ship captains had a habit of trying to skirt this island as close as they can for thrills for the passengers and the islanders.  This is literally insane.

He played chicken a little close and is now under arrest and being charged with manslaughter.

The thing about B'Gal, she's been nice enough to let me teach her about all kinds of sports since we've been together these years. She's now a bigger NASCAR fan than I am, and she actually watches football games with me. You should have heard her commenting on the Giants game yesterday.

I predict next season, she'll be able to spot a wildcat formation. Then, her transformation will be complete. Of course, having a DIL and two sons who are fans doesn't hurt either.

Well, in their defense, they pretty much had to make some major safety changes as the speeds went up. Even that didn't save Dale Sr. And the bodies are still sheet metal, even if they're all the same shape now.

Poor old Huntsman...he'll be sorely missed by friends, family and all 15 or 20 avid supporters. I love salt. If I didn't eat so much I'd have low blood pressure. But they've taken the salt out of almost everything, making it taste bland. The only thing I don't have to salt is Campbell's chicken noodle soup.

56 Like I said yesterday, TWC temps are @ Fairgrounds, outside temp near shed at -23

The Weather Channel here consistently predicts highs 5° higher than what it winds up being.  They also use a weather monitor at a podunk airport that sits out in the raw sun near the runways so it reads high.

That is how they support the AGW fraud.  Right now they are saying that it is 32° here when my thermometers are running 27°

I'm Galting about 15 miles from Mt Washington. It's the Valley that's cold in the AM.
Temps will rise 40 degrees between just before dawn and 9-10 AM most mornings in Jan.
Luckily, very little wind the last 2 days.

60 If I didn't eat so much I'd have low blood pressure.

There is a whole lot of debate on that "salt" thingy with blood pressure. The current consensus is that it is only a problem for people with congestive heart failure and people who are "salt sensitive".

I did an experiment a few years ago where I ate a massive amount of salt all day long while taking hourly BP readings. No effect what-so-ever on BP.

Southern Company???i.e. GA Power?  In any case, if you don't mind shift work, apply for the STA position in operations. Advancement is faster and the pay is higher.

Regular engineering slots will also involve a lot of shift work and also a lot of unpaid overtime as you will be Category II exempt. (salaried)

63 The League seems to be mirroring the wuss society nowadays with a lot of new rules in the name of 'safety'. This is football and those whiners make a lot of money to run around in PC pink. I expect a lot more rule changes. League is scared of the ex-player lawsuits. Because, in the nanny state, even professional athletes have no personal responsibility for their decisions. Their coaches or their teams or the League (that is, anyone with a deep pocket) "made" them keep playing. Cry me a river. I'm not buying it. Or NFL tickets.

Oddly enough, in an article about two new books covering the VW story, it's one of the commenters who brings up Hans Ledwinka, designer of the Czech Tatra, a streamlined car with, among many other Beetle-like features, an air-cooled engine (a V8, no less) in the tail. Ledwinka's designs for Tatra inspired Dr Porsche's people, as the post-WWII settlement of a patent infringement case in Ledwinka's favor shows.

90 Founder of Staples on F&F and is raving about what Romney did for them.

Not only did he get Staples up and running, he stayed around on the board for another 15 years. Staples now employs 95k people.

Further, he said that Romney was the best director they ever had.

Newt, Newt, Newt.....know your opponent.

Accuracy doesn't matter, just look at the new flick about the Tuskegee Airmen.
As long as everything is in place for November.

Besides we have plenty of money to fix inscriptions set in stone. That doesn't faze the marxists any.

I'm getting there, too.

I just cannot fathom that people have decided it's okay to settle for Mitt Romney.  Vs. McCain?  Fine- at least he wasn't openly against tax-cuts and free-speech (as McCain was), and we didn't know how big a disaster MassCare was at that point.

Vs the current field?  On his record, he's the weakest of "serious" (as opposed to "resume enhancing") candidates.

In any case, the MLK memorial looks like it should have a quotation from Chairman Mao on it. That's what the people in charge get for hiring some Red sculptor to do the work. Guess they couldn't afford a real sculptor after paying a huge bribe to the King family to let them memorialize MLK.

I'm sure Former Presidential Candidate Wally Huntsman could give them a good Chinese quote or two.

There are prolly plenty of good FBI wiretaps with material that Mao would approve. They should have sourced there first.

99 I'm getting there, too. ------ Really. Worrying about this shit is killer on my health. I'm doing what independents do and shutting out all news and worrying about school and shit. Just typing right now about this makes me feel i'll go into depression. The election will be a class warfare one and obama got his opponent for it and the indies will eat it up. I'm out. See ya guys. I'll comment in a week or so. I just want november to come and go

101 @97: the Modernists have taken Memorial Design at the National Mall, alas. The MLK Memorial, even if it wasn't sculpted by a Chinese communist agitprop sculptor that made him look Chinese, looks like a ride at Disneyland. Look up the proposed Eisenhower memorial: yet another modernist travesty. Just horrible, utterly out of synch with what - THANK GOD - is essentially the last true Classicl city. John Russel Pope is to this day maligned for his classical designs for the Jefferson Memorial, the National Archives, and the National Gallery of Art- all magnificent classic designs on the National Mall - by Modernists that wanted the Jefferson Memorial to look something like the MLK Memorial. Can you even begin to imagine what a mess Washington, DC would be today, if FDR didn't see the dangers of Modernists run amuck in the national capital? For some idea, get a gander of the EPCOT attraction that is MLK memorial. At least the WW2 memorial was done, more or less, in a classical way - though modernism nevertheless demanded it be stripped down to very basic, undecorated forms that ironically recall 1930's fascist architecture. Still, the basic goodness of classical forms come thru. The real problem with Modernism is, NOTHING ages faster than "the modern." What seems cool and contemporary today can look cheap and tacky and ver dated just a few years later. That's the whole point of classical style: timeless beauty. Really, before the libs get around to a 30 acre modernist junkyard dedicated to the memory of Cesar Chavez, I wish they would just leave the Mall alone and build no more anything, until our artistic sensibilities return to sanity.

There was a government official, Bush's head of the national Health service I think, who said that all new mesothelioma cases were fraud. He said all the real cases had already been adjudicated and settled. New cases were not possible because of the elapsed time in removal of the sources of asbestos.

Yet no judge will ever stop a filing for this BS and they saturate the TV with ads.

109 MR. GREGORY: But you know what they're saying. I mean, look, you run the Senate. Democrats haven't put together a budget in a year. The Republicans in the House are doing that. So you can say that they're, you know, holding the process hostage, but they're actually getting things done. That's the argument they've made. Are they wrong?

The Democrat controlled Senate failed to produce a budget by April15, 2010 and April 15, 2011 as required by the Budget Act. The House, under the outstanding leadership of Nancy Pelosi, "deemed" a budget pass on July 2, 2010, ten weeks late.
This isn't obstruction, this is procrastination.

114 OK Czech, fat nipples on silver-dollar sized aureoles. The MLK statue isn't even "modernist." It's Brutalist, the most in-your-face, how much can you pay for nothin', expression of the anti-humane elements of turncoat bauhaus. Even in DC, that ship has sailed, foundered on the rocks, and sunk. Third Church of Christ, Scientist, lost all its members in its despair.

The bad quotes and Chinese sculptor are icing on the cake: the supreme irony -- and somebody chuckled when they spec'd it -- is that finally we had a national figure who could realistically and naturally be cast in bronze, yet chose lily-white marble. Saint-Gaudens knew that. But let's not judge sculpture by the color of its skin...

Bob Taft stands on his crutches in the very shadow of the Capitol dome. MLK belongs -- like him or not -- where the actual million actually marched (on his right in the front row? That's Charlton Heston). The placement of "his" parklet, in the 'hood, is a liberal pat on the head. About time somebody called them out on these things.
