1 Thanks:

Good Morning Morons. Today is Thursday (ThorÂ’s Day for you Moronettes who liked the movie with the hunk), January 19th, 2012. On this day in 1807 General Robert E. Lee was born.  About the same number of links and posts today folks, but there are some long comments. Be patient.

Fox runs competing "opinion" pieces on Keystone

This is the one former a self-described progressive community activist.  Note that the article in favor of the pipeline was a former CO Congressman. The so-called community organizer gives 6 outrageous lies as to why the pipeline was a bad deal. Could Fox not find a “former Democrat” congressman to speak out against Keystone?  Here are some samples from this scruntÂ’s other opinion pieces from her website.

First her “about statement”:

Sally Kohn makes the world safe for radical ideas. As a veteran community organizer turned political commentator, Sally makes complex political issues accessible for everyday audiences. Sally is a grassroots strategist actively engaged in movement building for equality and justice

"equality and justice” among community organizers is just a code word for commies.  Now these are links to “opinions” but I have removed the links because they are not tiny url or equivalent. If you want to read more lies and ravings from a commie that Fox regularly gives a podium to feel free to go over there.

More insanity from the forces of evil trying to tear down real religion in this country

Ordinarily I wouldnÂ’t post links to this kind of crap because it has become so common but it touches home somewhat. My youngest brother is a member of the Gideon society and has worked with distributing bibles in the same manner as this.  The current status of court rulings allows this practice as long two conditions are met, (1) all religions are given equal access and (2) The school is only “passively involved” meaning that school officials may not make announcements, pass them out, similarly encourage their use.

From what I can tell the woman who was “offended” because her son brought an evil bible home, most likely under her orders, is a practicing witch. She brough materials to school for like distribution. Unfortunately for her they were books on “spell casting” or some such shit as that. Most rational people would not consider that a book describing the Wikin “religion”.

The school board is currently in the process of just halting it all. No more Gideon bibles because if we have them we must allow the school distribute spells for students. BTW, the local paper has quotes from two local pastors urging restraint. It seems the locals are not very happy with this either.

Latest on the Newt ex-wife saga from Drudge

Not much change since last night except they are now reporting release on Thursday night BEFORE the primary. IÂ’m sure the big civil war was over when to air it in order to do the most damage. I suspect that it is full of old material just being rehashed which is why they leaked the PR crap to Drudge because the speculation will do more damage than the actual show.  (Which will also be full of lies and distortions, after all the MFM has a reputation to uphold).  Now they will do it like an Oct surprise. Must have added some more lies that canÂ’t be fought against in time for the election. October surprise in January.

Personally I am still considering PalinÂ’s advise and am waiting for a later reputable poll before Sat.  I will not allow this BS to sway my decision. I donÂ’t like Newt but if we can shut the MFM up about the inevitability of Mutt when he only has 12 delegates that would be good. As it stands right now if he splits the SC delegates with Newt that will not help him much at. It is this stupid momentum meme that they are pushing.

7 The southern generals were always overrated. Arguably the most effective US general from the the Revolution was Nathaniel Greene, and from the Civil War, Sherman. As a grand strategist, Lee was a failure and Grant, for all the alcohol, brilliant.

Dangerous 'Possum causes evacuation of "D" Train in NYC

LOL, NYT had this story linked from Drudge so I did you Morons a favor and went and found it elsewhere.  From what can gather the baby possum wasnÂ’t really dangerous. If it had rabies it would have been fearless around the passengers and would have tried attacking them in some instances. They evacuated the train car anyway.

More race baiting from the kings of racism the NAACP.

It seems that the evil Microsoft is developing software for smart phone navigation programs that allow consumers to avoid traveling through high crime areas where they may be car-jacked etc. The Dallas chapter of the NAACP is once again offended because this is racist. I guess Microsnot is “red-lining” travel now.

This not only makes the NAACP racists against non-blacks, but also racist against blacks because now they are openly accusing blacks of have all the high crime rate areas. They are shooting their own feet, but I am sure you will not hear any of that from the MFM.

USA offloads on Gingrich's tax plan

I spoke on this the other day. The Mutt statement (which is quoted here) is effective federal tax rate, not his marginal tax rate. Newt made one of his statements about his plan and didnÂ’t everyone want a 15% flat tax. I took him at his word and said a 15% flat tax would be a massive tax increase for most people.

Well according to this his flat tax is NOT flat. People still get a personal deduction and mortgage/charity write-offs. And capital gains, interest, and dividends would go to ZERO tax rate. (Note if you have “qualifying dividends” under the current Bush tax cuts dividends and capital gains are at zero already for the lowest tax bracket. Most of my dividends are not qualified)

Just to provide some education to the Morons population I used my tax program to calculate a few scenarios to illustrate the difference between marginal tax rates and effective tax rates.  Here are the current marginal tax rates

Single filer, just out of school less than 5 years on the job, assume annual gross salary of $40K, standard deduction no children. total federal income tax $3783 for an EFFECTIVE tax rate of 9.45%. This while his marginal tax rate is 25%.

Joe gets married wife works and he has one kid. Combined salary is now $60K per year. Still no deductions. But assume childcare at $5/hr 40 hrs/week 50 weeks for $10,000. So that gives them a LOT of credits. 1st $1,000 child credit (Bush), $600 child care credit (Bush) + $800 MWP giveaway (Obama).

total federal income tax $5626 for an EFFECTIVE tax rate of 4%. This while his marginal tax rate is still 25%.

Joe and Jane have another kid and buy a house. Both get raises as they are now realizing the American dream. Joe now up to $80K while Jane is now up to $25K for a total gross income of $105K. Assume bought house w/ 10K interest and 6K pp. Plus property tax. (assume he lives inside city limits in SC so total property tax comes to about $2,000 on his small house, also has $1,000 property tax on two cars)  ASSUME $7,000 In state income tax. Now much more dependent care and a lot of deductions. total federal income tax $2414 for an EFFECTIVE tax rate of 5.4%. This while his marginal tax rate is still 28%.

IÂ’ll stop here because the post is getting too long and we are at the top of wat I would call middle class. But, as you can see, the bottom line is that a pure 15% flat tax for the overwhelming majority of people is NOT a good deal and that it takes an awful lot to get to an EFFECTIVE tax rate of 15%. Note also that single people still take it in the shitter, but not to the point that they want a flat tax unless they make it up in to the single yuppie category.

Note also that this does not include FICA, SSDI etc nor State taxes. We were talking federal income tax alone and NewtÂ’s flat tax does not appear to do anything with those taxes.

Even bigger surprise, Washington Post attacks it

What is this? I take it they are supporting the unions here and not Obama. The Dems in congress appear to be “silent”, which means they also support the pipeline and are probably privately fuming.

The State speculates where the SC military and vet vote is going to go this time

They tout the last election with McCain winning and getting that vote. I say hold your horses fools! Did McCain really win, maybe if you consider just over 30% a win. I suspect most of the real military votes will be voting absentee in their home States anyway. But the real kicker here is that the only two vets in the race are Perry and Crazy Uncle. They say Perry is out so perhaps crazy uncle will get all those votes? I throw the Bull Shit flag for a 100 yard penalty for unnecessary stupid. Ah, but they fight back with this:

Mitt RomneyÂ’s campaign will counter today with the endorsement of two other Medal of Honor recipients: Sgt. John F. Baker Jr. of Richland County and Capt. John James McGinty.

Got to push the Mutt, the desired liberal candidate of the liberal Dem PR rag here.

BTW, while at chemo yesterday I was in a room full of females with me the only male. I offered no political opinions, other than The View which I was forced to listen to while reading, in which I said watching that show decreased IQ points by 100 for every hour watched (they laughed). But the uniform opinion of everyone there was “we are tired of this shit and ready for all of them to leave”. I doubt seriously if anyone in that room will vote in the primary other than me.

Here's the biggest reason why the mild Winter this year is GOOD.

Even as other commodities are going through the roof, natural gas prices are dropping like a rock. Would it be so for gasoline prices to do that. But instead they are reflecting a 40% drop in domestic production since Commiebama took office. (Think about the magnitude of that number)

But all MSNBC deems fit to talk about is Romney saying a few hundred grand in speaker fees wasn't much money. Amazing. Anyone know how much more money Bloomberg has than Romney? What HIS effective tax rate is? What island HIS money is sheltered on? But, Bloomy is a liberal more or less, so in NYC, a place with more welfare recipients than just about anywhere else, it doesn't seem to manner. That said, Romney needs to devise a strategy to deal with this better than the SCOAMF way he has to date, or we are truly screwed come November. Yeah, well, Juan Williams just said a few minutes ago (when faced with a map showing pretty much all of the country being covered by oil pipelines of one sort or another) that it's the *type* of oil that's a problem. Because oil from Canadian tar sands is just so much more dangerous than any other type of oil.

Posted by: joncelli at January 19, 2012 07:16 AM (+MbqG)

Back, I cheated used canned biscuits cause wife has to leave and I was in the dog house not getting them started earlier.

But Lee was an outstanding strategist. His probelm was the same problem the rest of the military had in Vietnam. The overall strategy was determined from the (Southern WH) by someone who was basically incompetent in military strategy even though he was a graduate of West Point.

Lee wanted to move North immediately after the initial victories which is always the right thing to do. Instead he was held back by the politicians.

As for Grant and Sherman BS. Grant was hi-diddle-diddle right up the middle attacked a vastly outnumbered and undermanned foe, yet he lost troops out the ass.

Sherman was fighting essentially civilians after he passed Atlanta.

This is my only post on this subject. They always degenerate into flame wars.

Who does that leave, if even Romney turns into a campaign SCOAMF?

If? He's already there. He really needs advisors with a spine.

I kept waiting for McLame to come out swinging against the SCOAMF, there was way too much low hanging fruit for him to ignore about the SCOAMF's past associations, but ignore it McLame did.

I'm getting that same feeling again with Mitt. He could, if he chose to, answer each and every question with, "Why aren't we talking about Obama's debt reaching 100% of GDP and how that's impacting the economy?" or "Why aren't we talking about Obama's refusal to approve the Keystone pipeline, which would employ thousands of Americans during a time of high unemployment and help reduce our dependency on hostile foreign governments?"

I keep getting the sinking feeling that with Mitt, we're getting McLame II.

The tar sand oil is an extremely heavy crude. I think they have to dilute it with lighter VOCs to pump it through pipelines. So it is different but I can't see how it's dangerously different.

Posted by: Ed Anger - Certified Kos Kid at January 19, 2012 03:46 AM (7+pP9)

61 The real problem with the pipeline is that the 40% reduction in domestic crude that I referenced above is NOT an accident.

Also, the greens in Canada who are fighting it hasve already been identified as a Soros organization. It would not surprise me that if the press did a little bit of "investigating" here you would find the same thing.

Also, perhaps they would ask "American citizen" Soros about his accounts in tax havens like the Caymen Islands.

I don't really give a damn about these so-called issues (there are plenty of real reasons to not nominate either one of these losers), but recall that dirt-dumping and various kinds of voter manipulation/fraud have been the hallmarks of his past election "strategies." Seems to me it's a case of "you can't teach an old communist new tricks."

Every attempt to make war easy and safe will result in humiliation and disaster.   If nominated, I will not run; if elected, I will not serve.
If the people raise a great howl against my barbarity and cruelty, I will answer that war is war, and not popularity seeking.

Ever here the story about Churchill?

After he left office, he went to his physician (a famous English doctor) for an annual checkup.

The doctor sat down with Churchill and explained unequivocally that he must stop drinking and he must stop smoking.

Churchill stood up, put on his hat, said, "good day, doctor," and walked out of the office.

125 Vic--your tax analysis is interesting, but do you have enough info to figure out the EFFECTIVE rate for Newt's tax plan? If he allows personal deductions, mortgage and charity, it's going to be a lot less than 15% for most people. Steve Forbes had a flat tax plan some years ago that allowed a $9,000 personal deduction, so that a family of four making $40,000/yr would only pay tax on 10% of their income.

I've got squirrels out the wazoo, too. I usually use the dome things that hang over the top of my hanging feeders, but it generally just slows them down, but doesn't stop them entirely. But at least the squirrels just eat the food; they don't leave behind "presents" that need cleaning out the next morning like possums do. The best anti-possum solution I ever had was a dog we had a few years ago. I'd walk around the yard at night sometimes, and if I found a possum in a feeder, I'd poke him out with a stick. Lincoln had a knack for snagging them by the back of the neck and then chomp/crack, no more possum. The two idiot dogs I have now would try to get the damn things to play with them.

(ABC) Although it is not apparent on his financial disclosure form, Mitt Romney has millions of dollars of his personal wealth in investment funds set up in the Cayman Islands, a notorious Caribbean tax haven.

A spokesperson for the Romney campaign says Romney follows all tax laws and he would pay the same in taxes regardless of where the funds are based.

As the race for the Republican nomination heats up, Mitt Romney is finding it increasingly difficult to maintain a shroud of secrecy around the details about his vast personal wealth, including, as ABC News has discovered, his investment in funds located offshore and his ability to pay a lower tax rate.

129 Seems like a bitter women and a bitter network airing warmed over old facts already in evidence.

The local talker had the interviewer guy on and interviewed him this morning, and that's what I took away.  He did mention at least two things I didn't know- one of them I can almost sort of believe, the other sounds like the kind of lie a bitter ex-lover would come up with (and since she fits the model of "bitter ex-lover" pretty well, I'm putting it down to that until other evidence arises).

The first was that they were never rich while they were married.  Now, I think he was a Representative for at least some of that time, so if that's true (and it's at least plausible), that actually says good things about Newt and his ethics.

The second was that Newt proposed an "open marriage" instead of getting divorced over his affair with Callista.  That one seems a little far-fetched to me.

Posted by: AllenG (Dedicated Tenther) says 'No' to RINO Romney at January 19, 2012 04:51 AM (8y9MW)

130 who is doing the maneuvering? let me guess... "the elites"? "the establishment"? "the MSM"? The MSM has a weekly strategic phone conference with the WH; George Stephanopoulus said as much several years ago and admitted that he participated in coordinating the "message". Certainly the MSM concentrates on the GOP candidate that the WH war room is prepped for. That much is true. No conspiracy. It is all in the open. Kinda doubt there is a secret room somewhere where Mr Burns decides who is gonna run.

Posted by: Wandering Texan at January 19, 2012 04:52 AM (z+hCt)

131 I'm surprised that a woman, NewtWife2, who was the "other woman" was either surprised or pissed that Newt was getting it on with NewtWife3. Really, Maryann, how do you have any standing at all? She's pissed that Newty got it on with Callista in their apartment. Where did you get it on with Newty when he was married to NewtWife1?

Posted by: dagny at January 19, 2012 04:52 AM (Ke2m6)

132 Vic--your tax analysis is interesting, but do you have enough info to figure out the EFFECTIVE rate for Newt's tax plan?

Not without the details. But overall it looked like still a tax increase for people who got up into the mid range, a massive decrease for the wealthy, and no change for the bottom ranges who don't pay any taxes to begin with. It is not a flat tax so his title is misleading as well.

Keep in mind that I used a 2010 tax software program which had all the details of the current code in it.

133 Joint Strike Fighter may miss acceleration goal By Dave Majumdar - Staff writer Posted : Wednesday Jan 18, 2012 19:07:16 EST The F-35 Lightning II’s transonic acceleration may not meet the requirements originally set forth for the program, a top Lockheed Martin official said. “Based on the original spec, all three of the airplanes are challenged by that spec,” said Tom Burbage, Lockheed’s program manager for the F-35. “The cross-sectional area of the airplane with the internal weapons bays is quite a bit bigger than the airplanes we’re replacing.” The sharp rise in wave drag at speeds between Mach 0.8 and Mach 1.2 is one of the most challenging areas for engineers to conquer. And the F-35’s relatively large cross-sectional area means, that as a simple matter of physics, the jet can’t quite match its predecessors. “We’re dealing with the laws of physics. You have an airplane that’s a certain size, you have a wing that’s a certain size, you have an engine that’s a certain size, and that basically determines your acceleration characteristics,” Burbage said. “I think the biggest question is: are the acceleration characteristics of the airplane operationally suitable?” A recent report by the Defense Department’s top tester, J. Michael Gilmore, says that the Navy’s F-35C model aircraft, which has larger wing and tail surfaces, is not meeting requirements for acceleration. The report doesn’t say whether the F-35A and F-35B have hit similar snags. Richard Aboulafia, an analyst with the Teal Group, Fairfax, Va., said that the revelation was not particularly surprising. “It’s a strike fighter,” Aboulafia said. “It’s not an interceptor; it’s not an F-22.” Which is why a one plane to do all was bond to fail and why we should NEVER HAVE CANCELLED THE F-22. IT WAS SO FUCKING OBVIOUS TO ANYONE WITH HALF A BRAIN

134 I just heard a report on the DFW lady.  Turns out it took them 90 minutes to find her and the plane she was on left the gate already.  Which made me wonder, what would they have done had the plane taken off?  Also, you would think that they'd say "we just lost a woman with a gun in her purse so no planes can take off"...makes you wonder how much power they have over the airport per se.

136

morning, all!

This is just a stupid non-controversy. Via the Daily Mail (UK):

Racist or realistic? Fears Microsoft 'Avoid the Ghetto' app will damage economies of poor communities

Want to avoid the ghetto? There's an app for that.

A Smartphone app to help people avoid unsafe neighborhoods has been accused of discrimination.

The application, which is being developed by Microsoft, has already been nicknamed the 'Avoid The Ghetto' app.

But critics fear the app could damage local economies and steer tourists away from historically significant neighbourhoods- just because they have a high crime rate.

"Just" because it has a high crime rate.  "Just."

You know what?  Skid Row is historically significant, and I'm not going there anytime soon because I don't want to get shivved.

This is the priceless quote from the article, though:

Sarah E. Chinn, author of 'Technology and the Logic of American Racism,' told AOL the app is 'pretty appalling.'

'Of course, an application like this defines crime pretty narrowly, since all crimes happen in all kinds of neighborhoods.'

'I can't imagine that there aren't perpetrators of domestic violence, petty and insignificant drug possession, fraud, theft, and rape in every area.'

Don't you love the inclusion of RAPE as being analogous to "petty and insignificant drug possession" in terms of frequency and prevalence in "every area?"  RIGHT.  I'll remember that the next time I'm driving at night.  "I might as well stop here at this Eight Mile gas station at one in the morning to ask for directions.  It's no different than if I were to stop at an Irving station in the Berkshires, after all.  Either way I'm JUST as likely to be raped!"

Unbelievable.

137 Which is why a one plane to do all was bond to fail and why we should NEVER HAVE CANCELLED THE F-22. IT WAS SO FUCKING OBVIOUS TO ANYONE WITH HALF A BRAIN

Yeah, but it was cancelled by the same people who believe that air war will be conducted completely by remote in the next decade or so.  Which is idiotic to anyone who routinely works with computers and/or telecommunications.

Can you see having a dog-fight between your drone and the badguy's old F-16 (bought from surplus) and "sunspots" cause you to lose communication- even just for 30 seconds?

138 I usually use the dome things that hang over the top of my hanging feeders, but it generally just slows them down,

I use the dome things as well, but I don't mount them on the top. I mound them beneath the feeder on the pole. Note that due to the construction of the bottom of the pole I had to take a saws-all and cut a gap through it to mount it then seal the gap back up with duct tape.

139 When the establishment consists of the GOP regulars, the media and the Dems, yes, it is powerful enough to sway the public. Just look at how we ourselves turn against our own when the left controls the narrative. It happened with Palin, and it's happening now with Newt, and with everyone in between. And if/when Mitt is the nominee, it will be turned against him.

It made me wonder why we put up with the TSA.

Also, does anyone else see the terrorism possibilities inherent in having 50 - 100 people (or more) all queued up waiting at those stupid scanners?  I mean, I don't know the mind of a terrorist (not being one), but that just screams "soft target" to me.

143 A bunch of precincts can't find their votes in Iowa?  sheesh you'd think people would say "these are important let's watch the chain of custody and know where they are until the election is certified".  You know what this means right?  Santorum really won but they won't say.  Romney must be wondering what's going on but the paul people, the paul people will go nuts.  They'll assume the total win was contained in the lost votes.  I have a headache already thinking about them complaining everywhere.

144 The real problem with the pipeline is that the 40% reduction in domestic crude that I referenced above is NOT an accident.

Did the illegal moratorium on Gulf drilling ever end, or is SCOAMD still ignoring SCOTUS?

I don't think it made it to SCOTUS. A district court ruled against him twice though. So after that he is letting one or two a year trickle through.

In a world with justice the head of the interior department would be in jail for contempt.

It has to happen; national photo icon Kodak files for Chapter 11

The people in Rochester have been reeling from this companyÂ’s problems for years now. Well folks up there in upstate it is about to get worse.  I also suspect a lot of their problems are due to expense union retirement contracts. Of course USA Today will never publish that.

Buggy whips.

They held on to film technology long after the market had moved on and never distinguished themselves in digital.  They attempted to find a niche market in "digital cameras for dummies" that were to be easy to use and share, but never got the software right which caused problems.

Still, it is not a Chapter 7.  Maybe Kodak will rise again.

154 'I can't imagine that there aren't perpetrators of domestic violence, petty and insignificant drug possession, fraud, theft, and rape in every area.'

*snort* Except for theft and rape, none of those things are an issue for people walking down a sidewalk or waiting for a bus in an unfamiliar neighborhood.  By fucking definition, perps of domestic violence have a relationship with their victim; the half-ounce of weed in your back pocket isn't going jump out steal my purse.

(And if there's a lot of stranger-rape in your neighborhood, maybe you need to tell your neighbors to stop whining to the police and judges and media that their rapist son/nephew/brother is "really a good kid who just made a mistake and shouldn't have to suffer any consequences" and them incarcerate his ass before he racks up a half-dozen rape arrests. No, no, denounce yourself. With a rusty pineapple.)

155 The "ABC Civil War" generated some tiny thoughts in my tiny brain. Where did that term come from? Didn't Carlin do a bit on that? And, I remember my first visit to West Point. 164 If the Rdbrewer sidebar piece is the best the anti-Romney camp up with for "Romney's character problem" then Mitt won't be touched by it. A bunch of campaign clips from former rivals carries just about zero weight in the "character" dept. Getting married, finding a subordinate employee to sleep with, ditching the wife for the skank and then repeating the process, however, says plenty.
