Good Morning Morons today Tuesday January 24th.  On this day in the year 41 Caligula was murdered by his own guards. Also on this day in 1848 gold was discovered in CA at SutterÂ’s Mill. It only took 164 years for them to send themselves into bankruptcy.

Romney's effective federal income tax rate is 13.7%

His marginal rate is 35%. I have zero problem with this. Note also how much he gave to charity and compare that to ObamaÂ’s $240K (up from 60K) and before the Mutt h8ters chime in that it was to the Mormon Church ObamaÂ’s major charity was the hate spewing Reverend in Chi-Town

10 Great graphic, it'd be nice to actually hear the Congressional Republicans hammer this every chance they get.

Example: "Congressman, Speaker Gingrich is attacking Governor Romney's record at Bain capital. What is your position on 'vulture capitalism'?" "My position is that President Obama and the irresponsible Democrat controlled Senate have failed to pass a budget in over three years."

"Ok, next question. How can we balance the budget without increasing revenues through taxing the wealthy?" "I don't know, how about President Obama and the Senate Democrats pass a budget first, then get back to me."

Rinse. Repeat. Over and over again.

But alas, I suppose only Democrats are capable of messaging.

15 >>>>Great graphic, it'd be nice to actually hear the Congressional Republicans hammer this every chance they get.

They are, you just aren't hearing it. Every time a Congresscritter is on the news talking budgets and spending, they cite how many days it's been since a budget. Every time that Chairman Priebus is on tv and radio, he lists it as part of the Democrats' dereliction of duty. Congressional staffer push the number of days elapsed out on twitter; they do it daily and have done it for the better part of a year now.

The idea that congressional Republicans aren't messaging on this is completely insupportable. A feature, more likely, of what media you're exposed to than what Republicans are saying in the media.

I've wondered why the Party of Stoopid can't find the cojones to stand up for the Average American, Founding Principles and free-market capitalism. I've come to the sad conclusion that they're either being forced into it Mafia style with real threats to their families or they're in on it too and will receive some promised piece of power once we fall.

Actually, I expected Romney's tax returns to be just fine for him which makes it even more puzzling that he dithered so long before releasing them. (shrug) Again, I ask...shouldn't someone who has been running for president for as long as he has be better at it than he is? Especially someone banking on his own superior "electability"?

Yesterday, OPM had the DC govt workers report 2 hours late. Alexandria City had its schools open 2 hours late. Rand Paul was delayed by OPM. Interestingly, the two entities that are usually the least likely to have a delay or cancellation in the DC metro area? Alexandria (because it is all urban--no country roads) and OPM. Alexandria is also South East of the city and most inclement weather affects the NW of the city. OPM rarely gives a delay, closes only for major blizzards and will, at the most provide for liberal leave.

Why yesterday would OPM want its workforce to fill the metros and roads 2 hours later? Why would Alexandria City do the same? Here is a hint: Why would TSA delay one of the speakers for the March for Life?

Unbelieveable and unnoticed by most

Each and every thing you see or hear from the MFM/Pravda is a product of collusion and coordination these days, coming from the CAP or Media Matters, both Soros funded projects.

George Soros is a clear and present danger to us. 59 #37  Maybe he's taking a page from Obama.  Hang back on a demanded document until everyone has made fools of themselves,  then voila!

By waiting until Newt started kvetching about the tax returns (of which Newt only released on of his own, last year's) he managed to get Newt to release the contract with Fannie and Freddie,  in which we discovered he was hired as a "consultant" and not as an"historian."

Class warfare on full display this morning, as GMA reports that Mitt pays enough taxes in one day as most Americans pay all year.  Of course,  I think that is a GOOD thing.  If Mitt weren't around, 365 Americans would have to pay higher taxes to make up for him.

70 #52  Mitch Daniels is very protective of his family.  After watching Karen Santorum's past history dragged out in the press for no apparent reason except maliciousness,  I am certain he is not regretting a thing.

If the GOP as a whole had come down on the malicious attacks on Sarah Palin's family,  rather than standing off to the side allowing the press to remove her as a political threat, perhaps we would have had Daniels and Paul Ryan considering a run.   I say this as one who now wishes that Palin would avoid throwing bombs into the primary and try to be a more objective observer.

As things stand now, Palin's people are resentful, good people don't want to drag their families into the fight so don't run,  and the press is emboldened to print whatever hit pieces they want on relatives.

Posted by: Miss Marple at January 24, 2012 03:52 AM (GoIUi)

71 Regarding Mitch Daniels, I'm sure he saw what Herman Cain went through and wondered how many of Axelrod's fuckheads would come forth from out of nowhere claiming to have penetrated every orifice on his wife when she was playing runaway bride in Californicate.  It would be a complete pack of lies but the MFM would take it as the gospel.

73 Newt's measured tempo last night was probably calculated. There were plenty of times he could have gone off on Mittens.

Newt appeared calm and under control, while Mittens got all warbly and shaky as he faced the Newt for attack. That Mitt just isn't a fighter time, was clearly evident. That Newt CAN control his fire, also was evident.

Made for a boring debate, but it was probably necessary for Newt to show he could take heat without going ballistic.

That's the problem Miss M, there is no GOP as a whole and the establishment elites like Babs Bush were the ones most guilty of the shiv to her back.

This is why that I wish that people (especially some 'ettes) that really (and understandably) dislike Newt would hold of for a bit to help highlight the MFM's complicity in taking down GOP candidates.

I don't like him much myself, but in the short term, the effect especially if Romney is inevitable, might be healthy.

Romney’s tax documents are voluminous and extraordinarily complex. They reflect the far-flung finances of one of the richest men ever to run for president. His 2010 tax return alone runs to 203 pages, crammed with information about foreign holdings, contributions to family trusts — and even a Swiss bank account.

In a conference call with reporters, Brad Malt, Romney’s trustee, called the Swiss account “fully legal, fully disclosed” but said it was closed in early 2010. He added: “The income earned on that account is taxed just as any other domestic or other bank account owned by the blind trust.”

Pages and pages are devoted to foreign entities in which Romney is invested. Many are located in places like Luxembourg, Ireland and the Cayman Islands, all famous tax havens. None shows much income.

“These entities are not evading one dime of taxes,” Malt said.

Yep, this is going to play extraordinary well with Joe Unemployed.

141 #`127  So what, we should nominate a poor person?  One who has lived on planet for 60 years and has NO money?

Romney made his money in the private sector.  Newt would love to have that much money,  and although he got a late start seemed to manage to amass a sizable income based on his political connections,   with historian/consultant/lobbying/whatever work, speaking fees, books (which no one would buy if he were Joe Smith) and television commentary (which again,  he would not have had if he hadn't been the former speaker).

I find this distaste for Romney's wealth to be amazingly non-conservative.  He made the money legally (unlike current president who has some shady deals no one seems to investigate) and pays the legal taxes.

From National Journal:

Newt Gingrich says he never lobbied for Freddie Mac and under the law's narrow definition of lobbying, that may be true. But a contract released Monday by Gingrich's former consulting firm may give voters, who have a much broader, common-sense understanding of lobbying, pause.

The contract shows that the mortgage giant paid Gingrich $25,000 a month in 2006 to provide what he has called "strategic advice" to one of Freddie Mac's top lobbyists. And a clause requiring his firm to "perform services under this agreement in a highly professional manner consistent with the quality provided by other top firms providing comparable services in Washington" casts doubt on his original explanation that he was acting as a historian Similar firms are generally not being hired for the historians they have on staff.

The contract leaves room for Gingrich to provide lobbying advice and strategy to one of Freddie Mac's top lobbyists, which is standard operating procedural among a number of former members of Congress who join Washington lobbying shops and don't regularly lobby members or staff themselves. It also leaves open the possibility of advising the mortgage giant on everything from legislative procedure to the personality dynamics driving a legislative debate.

An investigation by the New York Times last year found that Gingrich's role was to defend Freddie Mac from conservatives who wanted to take the mortgage giant apart.

This is an important issue, but it's also one that can work in our favor.  Any idiot that the Republicans can get into office has a million opportunities to improve the economy in real, lasting ways.  This is an example.  Get the obstructions out of the way.  Imagine how much economic activity could be unleashed if our guy did nothing more than fix the bad decisions of the current POTUS.  Construction of pipelines and refineries would be but one field of work generating new jobs by the thousands.

Here's a transcript of that great Rush caller yesterday who's finally given up on Obama thanks to the SCOAMT's denial of the Keystone Pipeline.

CALLER: Rush, I'm a 48-year-old black man who has all my life been Democrat, and I want to say that as a truck driver, I listen to you, and been angry with you over the years, but I still listen to you 'cause I'm in a truck.  But I have finally come to see something, and I want to say three years ago I would have never saw myself or thought of myself saying that I agree with you, but I am now dropping my association with Obama...

Great stuff.  Here's hoping a lot more former Obama supporters, especially in the black community, have a wake up call similar to this man's.

I haven't seen any "distaste" for Romney's wealth (except from the MFM, who are faking it).  What I've seen is the point (and it's true) that being seen to be making more in a day than most Americans in a year- and then only paying 15% on it- hurts his "electability."

Since the only thing Romney has been running on is his supposed electability, that's a major factor.

Of course, it never registers to the Romney Camp that maybe they want to run on Capitalism and American Exceptionalism, where being richer than Croesus is a net positive instead of a net negative.

Romney is the one who made it "about" his wealth by a) refusing to release his returns in the first place and b) trying to turn the argument around suggesting that Newt's income is somehow illegitimate.

I love this.  It's ridiculous.   Tell me something: when did it become mandatory that an American citizen -- or indeed anybody -- must meet the President if so invited?  Sorry, when exactly did this country become a monarchy with a ruler who demands ultimate fealty?  Because last I checked there wasn't anything in the Constitution that says, "The citizens of these United States, yea of any nations so represented, who shall achieve greatness in an act of sport, shall without exception meet, shake hands, and shoot the shit with the President, so that the Executive may shoot a photo op that makes him seem more like a human and less like an aloof, aristocratic automaton with enormous ears and a Frankenstein head scar."  Pretty sure I would have noticed an amendment like that.

Sure meeting the President is supposed to be an honor.  But how is it an honor when you don't respect him?  Last I checked we still had some degree of freedom of association in this country.

And you are just supposed to reason it all out...like we did with Bush, McCain, Dole, Ford etc, cause what the GOP establishment tells us works out pretty well for us red-neck, angry hillbillies. Want proof? Well there is Christine O'Donnell "I am not a witch." See, see, you are the same stupid people that ALLOWED, no, wanted that to happen to strike a blow for justice, truth and your selfish political desires. And now you are doing it with Newt. Forget the fact that America is essentially OVER, we are broke and can never fix it. Anyone think we can fix this yet? All that remains to us as the locusts take over our fields, our homes, our lives is to hopefully pour some gasoline and strike a match. See all these recriminations come from a perspective that the system maybe, might still work. And the only way to elect a candidate that can get it to work in our favor, is to make him look just like a liberal, can't you see it? So now you have the spectacle of formerly great liberal hunter-killers like Coulter, Krauthammer practically frothing at the mouth because we are desiring someone that says nasty things to liberal idiots, wonder where we got that idea? But no, to keep the system going and to keep selling books and columns and being talking heads, just shut up and vote for a mannequin...psst, we will dress it up in some conservative clothes, but just until the nomination process is done...trust us. I mean our alternative is Newt who might say something stupid, or (did you hear Newt cheated on wives?). Yeah, he did, and he also was kicked out of Congress because he threatened the status quo. (Of the Dems you say?) Yeah, them, but the slave hunters were from his own party. So here we are everyone HATES Newt, but nobody LOVES Romney. So you have the choice self-immolation, or death by suffocation. And now let us dream masturbatory dreams of Daniels, or Pawlenty, or of a Perry that has a brain.

166 The audience was controlled last night, not even any Paulbots in attendance. Brian Williams has the demeanor of a mortician for zombies. They plotted it all out, Williams job was to fire questions in such a manner as to stop Newt from attacking the media, he succeeded in getting Newt and Romney to attack each other. Also I suspect Newt listened to some handlers, or maybe Ann Coulter threatened to bite his dick off. Strange dead audience, dead debate. I would not be surprised if we find out NBC screened the audience. First 20 minutes was Newt and Romney attacking each other. Why don't our candidates meet before a debate and make a pact to NOT attack, or respond to MSM moderators that turn them loose in the wooden ring like Pitbulls? They can attack each other on the stump, but STOP playing into the MSM, they are Satanic God-hating assholes do you get it yet? Any of you candidates? Do you?

167 So if you approve of Newt attacking our mortal enemies, the MSM and Obama, then you are just a jerk cause you are stupidly just gulping down red meat.

I'm just saying that a candidate has to walk a fine line, making judicious decisions regarding how much red meat energizes our base, vs. how much it energizes the enemy base.

"Newt" and "Judicious" go together about as well as "Obama" and "American."

Six hours a day as a fluffer is tough though.

Most of the Thomas calls on Dennis & Callahan NESN talk show were surprisingly positive, but that show has a somewhat Conservative bent anyway.

Heard the black truck driver on Rush and it was a from the gut manifesto that roused me out of my normal stupor, Rush gave him an Ipad btw and he was honestly shocked.

Wanted to post near the end here that Tami reported yesterday from her phone that she'd been accidentally banned. Don't know if that's been fixed or addressed yet, but I haven't seen her comments yet.

174 I think part of it is that a lot of people don't think Romney is an actual Republican, so they think he is some sort of traitor or enemy agent.

And Newt's a conservative???

Posted by: Niedermeyer's Dead Horse at January 24, 2012 05:06 AM (piMMO)

175 @171 Romney will never agree to stop Attacking Newt. Like Obama, his record of conservative action is non-existant. Attack and destroy the other guy is all he has.

Wait a minute. So Romney attacks Newt on his record and Newt attacks Romney on his success in business.

Yep. Completely uncalled for.

Oh wait, I saw Midnight in Paris.  Clever, but the absolutely gratuitous swipes at the Tea Party and the Republicans made it harder to watch.

182 @184 Well, remember Romney started the attacks(or if you prefer his PACs) first. If Newt is going to attack back, you attack an opponent's strength. Romney has no record, none, zip, nada of conservative success. That's why his answer to William's question of how he, Mitt, advanced the conservative cause was so weak ie. "I raised a family" So, you go after his strength- which is his time at Bain Capital. Because Bain Capital Romney is a guy I'd want to see in the White House applying the same standards to our sick, bloated, greedy, money-wasting government. That guy I'd happily vote for. But so far, that guy hasn't appeared at all. So, I don't expect him in the White House. Unfortunately, Newt went after it from the left. Which was stupid. I'd prefer no attacks on each other, but well that's the game Romney prefers.
