Good Morning Morons. Its Wednesday January 25th, 2012. On this day of infamy in 1890 the United Mine Workers was formed.

All the news this morning is on the shitty SOTU campaign speech. No point in trying to link.  The man just has a lot of gall running on his “economic record” and calling for offshore drilling after defying multiple court orders to issue permits.

Amazingly F&F this morning played clips of his lies and actually called him on it.  They really expanded on the Buffet secretary lie, but they didnÂ’t hit the core of it. They appear to be just as confused as the general public on effective tax rate vs marginal tax rate.

21 Bob Woodward on Morning Schmoe saying the "average voter" would like Obama's SOTU fail a lot more than anything the Republicans are saying. I grew up and my mom still lives about a mile away from this idiot. Just so you know, there is not an "average voter" in that entire town. Although technically, the average voter is still white, and there's not a single non-Asian minority living in that town, so maybe he means it in that sense.

LOL, that reminds me of a troll we had on here months ago who was talking about how racist Sc was when he briefly lived here. And how he had played with all his "black" friends in a small town in Maine.

I went and did some checking. Small towns in Maine have no blacks living there. I have more blacks living in my "racist" neighborhood that the average town in Maine.

26 Speaking of average voters, wasn't it not too long ago we heard the average voters was firmly against Obamacare? Isn't that the main reason for the 2010 election results? So then why don't Republicans run on that, make this election a referendum on Obamacare? Oh, that's right, because we're about to nominate, not the father of Obamacare, but its grandfather.

53

From the Obamacare article link above,

"A government of laws, not men" is among the most famous maxims produced by the American Revolution and the authors of the Constitution which was its ultimate fruit.

Alas - what people forget is that laws are simply the tools of men, used to govern.  Only men who are willing to make themselves subject to law can operate in a system where there is what we like to call "rule of law."  I think it would be more accurate to call it "rule BY law" which is a more accurate descriptor of what is happening in such a case.  Anyway, the last couple Dem presidents have shown that if they choose not to obey the laws, they are not compelled to do so.  They can do as they wish without consequence to themselves.

Only by having the right men in power, who can only be the product of a healthy culture, can we hope to have a just and orderly system.  Right now we're ruled by a gang of thugs, who use the law as nothing more than a tool to impute guilt to their enemies.  I'm not confident that our culture produces good men, suitable for political leadership, in adequate suppply to rememdy the situation.

Posted by: bergerbilder at January 25, 2012 03:45 AM (j+Izh)

62 46 - I'm only partially kidding. All politicians lie, of course, so you can't be sure she's not completely bluffing, but I think she's hinting that she has something. As has been pointed out, I don't think it's anything subject to non-disclosure in his ethics probe, and if not, what else? Imagine the joy the Dems would have if they could damage an R nominee for President with a sex scandal. We all know about Newt's marital problems, so the only sex-related thing that could do real damage now... is if they had proof he cheated on the current wife.

Posted by: BurtTC at January 25, 2012 03:45 AM (Gc/Qi)

63 The only thing I remember about Newt ethics violations was something about he was teaching at some college while he was a member of congress.  For some reason they had a rule against it.  Sounded stupid to me.

Posted by: Case at January 25, 2012 03:47 AM (DYR2Q)

Posted by: toby928© at January 25, 2012 03:51 AM (GTbGH)

66 Morning folks....thanks for the links, Vic.

The SOTU must have been boring even by President Petulant standards. The usual DNC groupies at my regular business news web site who generally go into orgasmic happy dances every time The One emits gas of any sort are deathly quiet about his speech this morning. If they're not excited about it, odds are no one outside the Beltway and various F&F hosts and hostesses ("ho"s for short) will be either.

And the weather is really nice for late January in the mountains...supposed to be sunny and upper 50s today. You could almost forget the SCoaMT even exists.

Posted by: davidinvirginia at January 25, 2012 03:52 AM (cPJUK)

67 Oh, and one of those previous Speakers, I don't think it was Foley, but I can't remember his name now, got slapped on the wrist for "writing" a book that was a collection of his speeches or something like that. They supposedly raised a ton of campaign cash that way, and he got caught. I don't remember if he resigned or had to give back money or what. I think that was the basis they used to go after Newt, or something similar. It was essentially payback.

Re the financial crimes unit:  The SEC is a worthless group  and has done little to actually enforce any laws, but they have a set of rules in place for how they are to operate.  The reason for a NEW financial crimes "agency/czar" is that Obama will now be able to write new rules on the fly to further the goals of his kleptocracy.

82 Yeah, he did try to "partially" walk back the couch sitting but he still believes in the AGW scam. So does Mutt.

What is amazing to me is the only people who openly mocked the AGW fraud were bounced out because they either can't get traction (Santorum) or because they did not do "beat the press" soundbites (Perry) in the debates.

Now they will get the impression that the public wants some kind of AGW scam.

Gingrich's SOTU reply talks about Joe the Plumber as well. C'mon a Newt vs Obama debate would be awesome compared to Mitt vs Obama. I cant even remember the 2008 debates

I am afraid that AGW is with us to stay, primarily because it is a noble cause that justifies enslavement of the US population, resources, and money.  It doesn't have to be real to be useful to an establishment politician (and beneath their masks, they are all establishment politicians).

Posted by: Hrothgar at January 25, 2012 04:09 AM (i3+c5)

She doesn't need to reveal any more even if she were to have something. And if she were to say that she's prevented by law or congressional regs to reveal it, that's almost as damaging.

There doesn't have to be any there there.

94 I think I've finally decided on voting for Newt next week.  It was something Steyn said in a joke filling in for Rush yesterday that tipped it for me.

The mistake that the GOP and the "establishment" has been making is to not take this election seriously.  This one is not politics as usual.  We face an existential threat to the fabric of our country.  Even if you don't buy into the concept of limited government, just the massive overload of sovereign debt and fundamental unseriousness on entitlements makes this one of the most important elections in our nation's history.

Newt, with all of his baggage, is the only guy in the race that seems to be taking it seriously.  He is the only one who will tell people the stark choice we face.  Even Santorum doesn't rhetorically address the stark reality, even though he is a "better" conservative.

I thought Steyn had a great suggestion for Newt.  Just lay out all of the baggage that people dredge up and say, "So?  Do you want to re-litigate the past, or save the future?"

In his speech, the President mentioned Master Lock's decision to bring

jobs back to their unionized plant in Milwaukee, which is now running at

capacity for the first time in fifteen years.

<End italics>

So after bashing Scott Walker all spring, now he's taking credit for Walker's work.

Not surprising, I guess.

Greetings from Down Under from your lurking Aussie!

Wish I could link - it's Australia Day today and apparently we're racist if we fly Aussie flags on cars etc What a load of BS

Just turned the news on and Geoffrey Rush (actor) who's Australian of the Year was rabbiting on about asylum seekers (we have a problem with Afghanis, Pakistanis etc travelling through several Muslim countries but usually just flying to Indonesia, hopping on a leaky boat after paying people smuggling sharks $10,000 and ending up here with well rehearsed sob stories and then spending their lives living in OZ on welfare) - well I've had enough and I'm not taking it anymore!

No wonder I only watch sports (love my cricket and footy) and get my news online from selected sites like here

Feels good having a bit of a rant occasionally doesn't it?

Posted by: aussie at January 25, 2012 04:21 AM (ormtC)

103 If we're going for a brokered convention, I want to be able to get stiffies by hearing the candidate speak. Not scared turtles like that sotu response

Good to hear from The Land Down Under. Ranting here is about the only thing keeping me sane.

At one time I thought 'well, if the US goes to hell I can always escape to Australia.' But your politicos are busy screwing your nation up faster than ours are.

And that takes some doing.

115 Rush wants more sympathy etc - most Aussies do not want economic refugees who decide we are a soft touch

I wish that he would have just said how proud he was to be an Aussie rather than get into preaching mode about economic refugees who mostle do not integrate and who gladly live off taxpayers like me

121 The brits are trying to put a cap on welfare benefits and a bunch of bishops are trying to stop it. Who made the bishops elected officials? The brits are so fucking generous it's ridiculous. A muzzie family didn't like their free digs so they put them inn a million dollar house in Stephen Fry's neighborhood. They refuse to deport terrorists and instead give them free rent and a monthly stipend. It's ridiculous.

130 Ok, Newt was instrumental in getting James Wright (D) removed as Speaker of the House. Wright had written a book and was selling it to unions and other groups in bulk for the cash. Basically it was a kickback operation. Then Foley became Speaker and Newt the Minority Whip and Newt engineered the 94 success and became Speaker. I always get a sense that there is a large contingent of Republicans in Congress that rather be in the minority.
