— Gabriel Malor Happy Tuesday. Some news stories to get you started:
Guy who shot four people at a New Year's house party on Sunday morning fled to Mt. Rainier national park, where he shot and killed a park ranger setting up a roadblock. Naturally, libtards are blaming legislation that allows guns in parks. Because survivalists who shoot people at house parties are well-known for obeying gun laws.
Okay, maybe just one news story to get you started...

Good Morning Morons. Its Jan 3, 2012 and it is 25.6°F here. On this day in 1531 Martin Luther (the original) was excommunicated by Pope Leo X. In 1777 an old white patriarch defeated British General Cornwallis at the battle of Princeton. But no need for school children to know about that. Now on to the doomy news.

Why is Obama and his minions campaigning in Iowa?
Iowa is pretty much a blue State and he has no opponent so why is he there? Could he have some polls that are telling him something that is good news for us? Anyway, the big news this morning is who will win Iowa. Fox is saying a large portion are “undecided” going into the caucuses. I say who cares who wins a blue State.

Meanwhile the first important State is not far off and there have been no polls since 12/18 and a LOT has changed since 12/18.

EPA goes after couple claiming "wetlands" in the middle of a housing subdivision
Case goes to the Supreme Court on very narrow grounds. However, the last ruling on administrative taking was that if the government took more than 5% of the value of the land then it was a taking and the government must pay for the land. (SC beachfront case). Here it appears they are taking 100%.
This article talks about congress’s efforts to reign in the EPA but if they were really interested in doing that they would start by repealing the stupid “wetlands” definition and the absurd government justification for the law as any ditch that drains eventually to a navigable waterway.

US budget deficits as a fraction of GDP by President
I donÂ’t like this chart for several reasons. Number 1, congress has a lot more to do with budget deficits than the President unless the President pushes congress for more spending. In addition, making it a fraction of GDP hides the true amount of spending because GDP changes from year to year.

Notice that you can get a cop to show up when a kid keeps library books too long, but you can't necessarily get one to show up when your house is being robbed, or your person is being assaulted, etc.
Before long the only crimes that will be investigated are those that cost the government money, or involve inconveniences for government officials. Right now, if you use prison stay duration as a guide, tax evasion is a worse crime than rape and murder.

Paul’s views are not just libertarian. He is not simply concerned that “an overreaching military presence around the world is inconsistent with small, constitutional government at home,” as Edward Crane recently suggested. Paul goes further, blaming the U.S. for attacks against it, both foreign and domestic. That is a posture typically associated with the radical left.

Someone recently offered me the prediction that one day most of the important private sector jobs would be held by home/private schoolers, because only they would be able to perform those jobs. I have to agree that it's quite plausible.
Posted by: Reactionary at January 03, 2012 04:31 AM (xUM1Q)
I didn't read the comment, but from a certain perspective the equation is reasonable.
FDR was vehement in his refusal to bomb the rail lines running to the concentration camps. One night of bombing could have saved the lives of thousands, perhaps tens of thousands of Jews. Yet he chose not to. And there has been some recent scholarship that found his anti-Semitism wasn't kept quiet. He expressed it forcefully in private meetings.

True. Britons are the most surveilled people on earth, yet all that tech does nothing to push down crime rates. The day they started putting up all those cameras was the day I should have invested in companies making hooded sweat shirts, which are now ubiquitous among the English gutter spawn.
And in that place, the citizen has no right to self defense. You're required to allow yourself to be beaten to death, rather than fight (and potentially injure) your attacker. It's sickening.

Perhaps.. most likely they (the Nazis) would have had the thousands of Jews walk the whole way and bury the fallen as they went.
FDR knew what was going on as early as his first term and did nothing to help German Jews emigrate to the US while they still could. But it wasn't only his anti-semitism, it was the country as a whole. A country in the deepest recession it had ever seen. All immigration was curtailed.

We were actually already in the war with Germany before the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. And then he dedicated almost all the availbale assets to the European front while GIs in the Pacific died at the end of the vine.

The "marginal tax rate" is the top tax bracket that a particular person is in. The "effective tax rate" is the overall taxes that he pays as a percentage of his total income.

Actually Germany declared war on us. But we were already escorting British ships with American destroyers and firing on German U-boats.

I don't think he had a real problem with a United Germanic Fascist States of Europe or a Greater South East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere as such.

Well, I could be wrong, but as I understand it FDR was looking for ways to get Americans to embrace involvement in the war in Europe. He provoked the Germans to the limited extent he was able, by openly aiding Britain. I think he knew that the world was about to be re-ordered, and wanted in on it. When Hitler screwed up and declared war on us (a move I'll never understand) FDR finally got what he wanted.
I think in the end that probably it all worked out for the best. Japan was defeated and pacified. Western Europe remained free (so the socialists could hollow it out and turn it over to the muslims). The Jews not sent to Stalin's gulags or shot by the Red Army were able to survive. But still I think about the Cold War, the millions murdered by communists world wide, and wonder if things really turned out optimally, in terms of total body count. The Germans could have been tied down in the East for decades, fighting an unending communist insurgency. Japan could have been defeated even more quickly, sparing the lives of more Americans.

Aren't you forgetting the current occupant of the White House? FDR and Obama can be accurately categorized as sympathetic to socialism with administrations riddled with communists.
However, at least FDR had some affection and pride for the United States. The SCOAMF ... no so much.

'I hate America', says German 'prime suspect' in Hollywood arson case whose mother faced being deported
Authorities last night arrested a German man in connection with dozens of suspected arson attacks that destroyed parked cars, scorched buildings and rattled much of the nation's second-largest city over the New Year's weekend.
...
According to Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck, Burkhart is believed to a foreign national from Germany.
It is thought his mother is said to have faced a deportation hearing in Los Angeles County within the last two weeks.
Firefighters have not responded to any other suspicious fires since Burkhart was detained, Moore said.Posted by: Ed Anger - Certified Kos Kid at January 03, 2012 05:10 AM (7+pP9)

We still have not recovered from FDR and his court packing. FDR also brought in the rapid advance of socialism. LBJ finished it off. Obama is bringing in communism now. If he is elected for a second term he will advance to second place ahead of LBJ.

That vile LBJ was a real piece of work - a typical leftist hypocrite.
This is hearsay so take it FWIW, but last night I spoke with a friend who's aunt was a friend of Lady Bird. Said aunt was a life-long government employee and got to be at the signing event for the civil rights act. As soon as the photo op was over, she overheard LBJ say something to the effect of "That's done, now get these n*****s out of here." Given what I know about LBJ I think it's a pretty believable story.

OK, Vic, I grant the long-term adverse impact of FDR to the United States.
However, I still say Obama is actively working to damage the U.S. For example, why limit drilling for oil by American companies in the Gulf of Mexico while at the same time give billions of dollars to Brazil to drill for oil in the same place?
But FDR certainly be credited for much of the f*cked up sh!t that the SCOAMF is eagerly working to collapse.
Posted by: Retired Buckeye Cop at January 03, 2012 05:21 AM (M0NzJ)
Right. We all know that FDR had a man crush on Uncle Joe Stalin, not Hitler. FDR did basically succeed in his goal, which was to become El Presidente for Life, in as Stalinesque a fashion as would have been possible in the America of that time. That, and to make the world safer for communism, which apparently was his other major objective.
Posted by: Reactionary at January 03, 2012 08:42 AM (xUM1Q)
A fascist by any other name is still a fascist, and FDR had plenty of those tendencies in him. Taken to the extremes of Hitler or Stalin or Mao, no. But the fascist state-over-all mentality was there.

If I remember correctly, whem LBJ was a U.S. Senator, he blocked a civil rights bill the President Eisenhower was trying to get passed. LBJ was a nasty piece of work.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a cynical ploy to strip the black vote away from the Republican party. Unfortunately, it worked. If you try to tell uniformed people that the Republican party was the key to getting the Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed, they don't believe you.

That's the thing though, there is nothing left to put into place if the Supreme Court upholds any part of Obamacare--everything is already in place, all they need is time.
That's why none on the left really care if Romney is the nominee, it a "heads I win, tails you lose" bet. Even if the SC tosses all of it, Romney will "see it is such an important issue" and will be back with a kinder, gentler version for the Dems to rally around.
I know it's cool by some to crap on RedState around here, but Moe Lane's 10 things about Iowa is right. Especially "What are you going to do, sit this one out?" one. Yes. If you think you're going to convince me that getting a soft, slow ass-rape by Romney is somehow better than getting a jackhammer ass-rape by Obama, well, good luck with that.

Thank goodness someone else (Gabe) besides me was supremely annoyed about the tie in to "carrying guns legal in federal parks" element all the damn news media was gratuitously tossing into the reports. Look the asshole would've carried guns into the park regardless of the law, his crime wasn't carrying guns into a federal park, it was shooting up a house party and then killing a park ranger.
Wish it hadn't happened in my state where now I have to listen to weeks of whining about crazy gun nuts and the laws that currently allow them to be crazy gun nuts. Because if guns were against the law no one would ever be shot. Chicago proves that, right? Right?
