— Gabriel Malor Happy Friday.
Most of the politics news out there this morning is debate related. But since we all know how that went, I'll just stick with a few items.
The DNC fired the OFA director who James O'Keefe caught coaching a voter to vote in two states.
And Google is caught up in the election again as image search results are turning out odd results for Team Romney. (I won't use the words because I don't want to add to the problem.) Shades of "Google bombing" here.

The Spy Lover
Thrust into the savagery of the Civil War, a Chinese immigrant serving in the Union Army, a nurse doubling as a spy for the North, and a one-armed Confederate cavalryman find their lives inextricably entwined. It's a novel of extraordinary scope and a defining work on the Chinese immigrant experience.
And thatÂ’s it for this morning.

I bet if you ask that question to solid Democrats, I bet many will pause, get this stricken look on their face, and the hard core will start acting like Biden.

Just trawling around online, the reaction to the debate seems to be basically a hard fought draw......"both sides went toe to toe, clashed over issues, more fired up than the Presidentail debate, highlighted the divisions between the parties, no clear winner unlike last week", etc, etc.
So.....with no critical knockout punch scored by either side, Libya and Biden's over-the-top performance seem to be the two big takeouts from the debate. That's pretty good news really for RR.

90 minutes in a nutshell:
Ryan starts describing the Romney tax plan.
Biden: (Shakes head, grins.) That's crazy, it will never work.
Ryan: It's been done before.
Biden: No it hasn't.
Ryan: Kennedy did it, Reagan di--
Biden: So now you're Jack Kennedy?
Martah Raddatz: Let's move on.

That's what I was thinking after scanning around for a bit, too. The MSM seems to actually be reporting on Libya (and the admin's BS about it) now, and Biden was obnoxious...especially, seems like, to a number of female blogger/observers who generally don't care much for Republicans...something along the lines of "Biden sounded/acted like everything that makes women hate to talk to men sometimes" or thereabouts. I think that line is from Althouse on her blog. So, hopefully the move of female votes to RR will continue...I don't think Crazy Uncle Joe did anything to fix that.

Joe was Meandering, Deceitful and Disrespectful, he received help and lifelines from the 'moderator' throughout the evening.
The one thing Joe had on his side was energy, which his adherents have lapped up.
It doesn't matter that his answers were flat out lies or that he meandered, he did what he had to do, which was be better than Obama.
I think Romney understands now that the deck is stacked against him going into the next debate.
He will plan accordingly.
Because Obama is going to come out swinging and with a friendly moderator he could potentially do some damage.

I cannot imagine any independent undecided voter, particularly women, watching that debate would be more inclined to vote for Obama-Biden after last night's performance by Smirking Joe.

My takeaway from what I saw:
Ryan's biggest flaw was that he came off a bit stiff and wonkish at times, maybe a bit too polite and not aggressive enough when challenged.
Biden's biggest flaw was that he came off like an unhinged hot head and condescending jerk.
I think I know which "flaw" most people would be more comfortable with in their potential President.

On the Kennedy line; he was obviously going for a reprisal of the Bentson line from 1988- as he was no doubt coached to do.

That kind of fits in with my tin-foil hat theory that Biden was 'doping' with testosterone. Perhaps as a knee-jerk reaction to Obama's poor first debate. I've taken the stuff before and it makes me verbally very aggressive. Whereas weight lifting (Ryan) 'ups' the testosterone level naturally without that side effect.

Posted by: Hrothgar (Rhetorician at large ) at October 12, 2012 03:39 AM (Cnqmv)
Many times during last night's debate, Ryan was debating that vicious scrunt as well as biden. It was a truly remarkable display of bias. She actually badgered Ryan several times while he was trying to answer her question.
Better him than me. I would've been sorely tempted to ask her if she was a moderator or an interrogator and then mentioned that I realize that the President was a guest at her wedding and that her former husband is the chairman of the FCC but could she at least make an attempt to be objective?
Posted by: Ghost of Lee Atwater at October 12, 2012 03:40 AM (JxMoP)
The one line that got a reaction from the crowd was Ryan's quip about Biden knowing something about misspeaking, and you could tell Biden was ticked off by it. He repeatedly said essentially that he always tells the truth, and always means everything that comes out of his mouth.
There's an ad right there, RNC. Use it?
Posted by: BurtTC at October 12, 2012 03:41 AM (BeSEI)
Biden is receiving some praise and good press, but even that is more about simply "being aggressive" and "putting his party's views" rather than actually winning or even scoring a decisive punch against Ryan.

As gratifying as Ryan telling off Joe Bozon would have been, that would play right into their hands. Biden's goal for the evening was to get Ryan to overreact, so that he could then say he was a scary yoot and out of control. Ryan didn't play that game, and so won the debate.

And continuing to "learn it". Not being mention by anyone in the media, they are still doing the same amount of "stimulus" every year thanks to the Dem Senate and balless Republicans in the House.
Wit the worthless porkulus they jacked up spending to 4T a year with a 1.1T deficit. We have had that same amount of spending and deficit every year because the Senate will not pass a spending bill and the House in order to keep from doing a shutdown passes CRs which continue the same level of spending as the first year they were in when Dems controlled both houses.
So in effect the Dems still control both houses with respect to the spending.

Exactly right. The aim was to go with the meme that Ryan "get's testy." The goal was to provoke him into frustration and get him to say something they could use as a hammering soundbite. They failed. He did not rise to the bait.
Watching him for 14 years, I did not have too many worries that he would. I have never seen him get angry or flustered. They were barking up the wrong tree.
