Happy Tuesday.

New Q-poll confirms Romney's surge in Pennsylvania. Obama's lead is down to just four points, 50-46. But, alas for CAC, National Journal thinks it's unlikely that Team Romney will make a genuine play for Pennsylvania owing to the scattered and expensive media market. On the other hand, the GOP senate candidate Tom Smith is now polling just 3 points behind Sen. Casey.

Obama: "We got back every dime we used to rescue the financial system." CBO: "Actually, the taxpayers will lose about $24 billion on the bailout, champ."

Ross Perot changes course, decides to endorse Romney after all.

Pizza Hut is backing off it's debate challenge/prank. It had offered a pie a week for 30 years or a check for $15,600 to anyone who asked the candidates "pepperoni or sausage" at tonight's debate. Now it will pick a random winner online.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Tuesday, October 16, 2012.  On this day in 1793 French queen Marie Antoinette was guillotined for treason for being queen during the reign of terror.

4 Holder files suit in federal court (using out money) to seek dismissal of Fast and Furious suit from Issa.  His cause of action?  The judiciary has no jurisdiction to get involved in “political disputes” between Congress and the Executive.   That reasoning is ludicrous as Nixon found out.  Of course he was a Republican and somehow the law reads different for Republicans.  But it is doubtful even a black Democrat can win on this reasoning.  But what this really is is the proverbial drunk hanging onto the door jambs at last call while the bartender is trying to eject him.  He is seeking delay until they are out of office and hoping it will go away. He probably does see this as political even though he broke the law and people were killed.

10 Listened to a radio interview last night with Celinda Lake.  She went to Ohio and interviewed the demographic Obama is shooting for (blue collar single mothers,  white).  She did this by interviewing waitresses between 22 and 40 in 3 swing counties.  She was stunned to learn that their issues of most concern were debt and deficits plus the economy.   And almost all of them were voting for Romney.  She believes the democrats have severely miscalculated.

11 Supreme Court to hear AZ voter registration case.  New law requires people registering to show proof of citizenship.  One wonders why this is even a case now.  Federal law now requires people to show proof of citizenship to get a driverÂ’s license as part of the new national ID act.  And the Constitution says that States set voting methods in their individual areas.  But I guess the 14th amendment BS from the radical Republican congress has pretty much killed that.

Clearly, what the Indonesian Imbecile meant (as was explained to us regarding Biden's special "we" meaning just Barky and him - as if anyone believes that, either) was that we got back every "physical dime" that used in TARP. After all, that's what Barky said. He was only talking about dimes. Not dollar bills with all the other Presidents on them or anything. Dimes. Just dimes. FoxB had some turd on yesterday evening talking about high gas prices.  The question from the Fox babe was why are prices so high when oil production in the US is at record levels.  They also did not mention that gas use in the US is at record low levels.

The turd came up with this lame shit about "world market" driving prices up.

The real reason gas prices are so high?  Because thanks to helicopter Ben the 2008 dollar is actually worth about 40 to 50 cents now.  Contrary to the lying Obamanites we do have runaway inflation in all commodities. Yet they are publishing 2% as the inflation rate last year.

Barack Obama, wanting an “October Surprise,” had secretly arranged with the Muslim Brotherhood for a kidnapping of our ambassador. Then sometime in October before the election Obama was to orchestrate some great military action to rescue Ambassador Stevens, causing all of America to cheer ObamaÂ’s strong foreign policy and bravery and making him look like a hero. After all, his supposed killing of Osama Bin Laden bounce had long since faded. Thus, sweeping him to victory in November. Imagine the headlines and talking points. The election would be a lock. The Muslim Brotherhood has every reason to want Obama re-elected in November and have an American President sympathetic to their causes. Not to mention an administration filled with Muslim appeasers. Therefore, they agreed to aid in these theatrics.

Unfortunately for Ambassador Stevens and three others, the Brotherhood could not control the hired thugs that were to perform the kidnapping and things escalated and four American lives were lost. Panic set in at the White House and with little time to place blame as far away from Obama as they could, they settled on a ridiculous fairy tale about an irrelevant video posted four months prior on YouTube and ran with it. Barack Obama even ran with it after evidence showed he knew better and ran with it all the way to his speech at the U.N.

So now, they are admitting it was a terrorist attack. They are admitting that the State Department had denied requests for more security from Washington, but nobody told them. Blame anyone but Barack Obama. IÂ’m betting the White House is smirking and perfectly happy to be accused of having a breakdown in communication as opposed to the alternative.

52 Obama was right: We will get back every dime, and then some, that we spent to save "the financial system". But we won't get back 2.4 trillion dimes we spent to pay off the UAW and Geithner's mortgage cronies.

Of the $24B TARP ultimate cost, the accounting is roughly: $20B to GM & Chrysler, $16B on the HAMP program to bail out mortgage lenders, and -$12B from bank loans being paid back with interest.

Good morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes.  IÂ’d say itÂ’s good to be back, but itÂ’s a dreary rainy day here in Massachusetts.  IÂ’d rather be having breakfast in Charleston.  In any event, I hope you all had a great week.  HereÂ’s hoping the JEF pulls a Biden tonight; I wonÂ’t be watching, since I canÂ’t stand the clownÂ’s sneering voice.  Better Ace than me.

IÂ’m back now to pester you with another story of the old days.  Today, weÂ’ll try to dispel an old Hollywood rumor, one concerning the death of the silent actress Marie Prevost (pronounced like “free toast”).

Born in Canada in 1898, her family moved to Los Angeles when she was young.  While working as a secretary, on a lark she dropped in at the Mack Sennett studio in Edendale; her winsome, innocent sexuality appealed to Sennett, and she was quickly snapped up, being added to the collection of the Keystone StudioÂ’s “Bathing Beauties.”

By 1921, she was noticed by the legendary producer Irving Thalberg, then the production chief at Universal.  Determined to make her a star, Thalberg signed her and began casting her in a number of airy comedies, usually as the bombshell ingénue whose pouty lips and slim ankles gave the leading man a Woodrow Wilson.  A number of other directors, however, saw something more in Prevost, and after her Universal contract expired, Warner Brothers signed her.

Beginning with an adaptation of FitzgeraldÂ’s The Beautiful and Damned, Prevost quickly blossomed into an actress of rare talent, specializing in roles which showcased her meltingly seductive beauty but which also almost always ended with her being the honorable woman who lets the hero marry the woman he really loves.

But in 1926, distraught over her motherÂ’s death, Prevost began spiraling into alcoholism and depression.  She tried to bury herself in work (appearing in one of C.B. DeMilleÂ’s finest pictures from these years, The Godless Girl), but it was no use.  An affair with Howard Hughes in 1928 ended badly, pushing Prevost further into depression; by the 1930s, her alcoholism and subsequent weight gain relegated her only to bit parts, and by 1934 she was unemployed and nearly penniless.

Now, through all of this, you might have been thinking that MarieÂ’s name sounds familiar to you.  Of course, you might have heard Gloria Swanson name-check her in Sunset Boulevard, but more likely, you heard the Hollywood Babylon rumor that she was eaten by her dogs.  Which, of course – like nearly everything else in that loathsome book – is a lie.

HereÂ’s what really happened: on January 21, 1937, Prevost died of heart failure.  Two days later, her neighbors at the Aftonian Apartments (still standing, incidentally, right off of Vine Street), driven to distraction by the barking of her dachshund Maxie, insisted her room be broken into.  Ignoring the scrawled sign pasted on her door – “please do not knock on the door more than once.  It makes my dog bark.  If I am in I will hear you as I am not deaf” – a bellboy used a passkey to enter her room and found Prevost, covered with a robe, lying on her bed.

So whence the dog rumor?  Simple.  Poor Maxie, hungry, lonely and not understanding why his mistress wouldnÂ’t get up, kept nipping at her to get her attention, and this series of small bites was transformed, over the years, to the gruesome legend of PrevostÂ’s body, half-eaten, surrounded by a pack of starving dogs.

But the legend continues, just like the one about Lupe Velez drowning in her toilet.  If youÂ’ve got Nick LoweÂ’s album, Jesus of Cool, give it a spin.  He runs with the rumor, too (She was a winner / Who became a doggieÂ’s dinner / She never meant that much to me / Oh, Marie), on his song Marie Provost [sic].

But now, as Paul Harvey would say, you know the rest of the story.

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Posted by: Up with people! at October 16, 2012 04:03 AM (kzFo5)

79 A few points about PA are in order. First, it would be a mistake to chase after that state. Tilting at windmills doesn't win elections. Since '88 PA has been a wasteland for GOP Prez nominees. Romney needs to win this election, not to prove a point. Every dollar spent in PA would be one less dollar for OH. The latter is the lynchpin of the entire election. Focus and execute. For the Senate it's absolutely astonishing the GOP did not bother even to field a legitimate candidate. If this Tom Smith is so close to Casey, Jr. imagine what the contest would look like if they had an experienced candidate with some name recognition and a war chest. Didn't they poll that contest? How could they not have known Casey was vulnerable? Staggering ineptitude.

136 "Ross Perot changes course, decides to endorse Romney after all." But in '92 after the Dem convention, he withdrew from the race, declaring the Dem party had "revitalized" itself. Then when Bush Sr. was making a comeback later, L. Ron Perot decided he had to jump back into the race. Perot is a lifelong Dem wienie. No indication he has changed at all. This might easily be the setup for Perot declaring (again) that Obama has revitalized himself and should be re-elected.

-----

I'm confident he's ready for it.  Of all questions he'll need to answer tonight, this is the one he knows with certainty is coming.  He can throw in JEF's bitter clingers to illustrate how things don't actually mean the way they sound.  How would Barky counter that then?

149 My fear tonight is that Obama will hit Romney with his "47%" quote and Mitt will have nothing to counter it.
--

Mitt's been ironing out that wrinkle. At some point, the crease is what it is.

It isn't Mitt who can't look his opponent in the eye. Tonight, I'm betting that Obama will frequently glare at Mitt when not addressing the camera with his "personal touch, transcending" the Townhall mtg. live audience. Barry Hussein will copy his Biden tutorial as best he can (pfft, Obama's never read or kept up on any topic beyond his vacations). Glaring is hardly the same as maintaining eye contact diplomatically. Certainly the FOX camera shots will air a different perspective than the rest of the MFMess.

1st point, regardless of ideology, GOP Presidents appreciate 100% of Americans, especially the "silent majority". (Rebut Obama's disdain with Obama's own nasty quotes, starting the painful litany with "bitter clingers".)

2nd point, whatever choice each person in the 47% makes is the expression of free will. Romney honors our Civil Liberties and Constitutional Republic (though that's just a line coming from a GWB III candidate "enhancing" authoritarianism at home and abroad). Romney would appreciate the opportunity to improve the living conditions of all Americans through energetic participation in the American Dream.

I saw a breakdown of each state (via Drudge) and was rather surprised to discover that Texas was not in the Solid Romney column.

Just a guess but I'll bet that's from Rove's site that only lists results from the most recent polling data and Texas probably hasn't been polled since primary season. Rove's rationale for listing stale and obviously incorrect polling data from solid states defies common sense.

Romney has been presenting to large groups of sometimes hostile businessmen who have excellent command of the most intricate details of the topics at hand.

He has excelled in these situations, so to expect anything other than an excellent performance in the debates, when his opponent is a sociopathic narcissist is unwarranted.

It's been a number of weeks and there is absolutely no evidence for it. I let it slide until this week because sometimes there are actual good to honest conspiracies sometimes. People are still positing their same old insane conspiracy theories, I'm allowed to call bullshit.

196 #167  Well,  I want answers to these questions:

1. Why was an ambassador who was extremely worried about security in Benghazi, a known stronghold of Al Qaeda types, without adequate security?

2. Why was the security team sent to Iraq from Libya over the ambassador's protests?

3. Why did rumors of negotiations for the release of the Blind Sheik appear the weekend prior to September 11?

4. Why,  despite evidence that this was a terrorist attack being obvious within 24 hours of the incident, was the video story floated for over a week?

5. Who ordered Rice to go on TV and tell the video story?

6. Why is the ambassador's father trying to get Romney to quit asking questions?  One would think he would want some answers.

7. Why was the diary in Benghazi?  Was it really found there?  What was in it that prompted Anderson Cooper to start asking pointed questions?

So there you go.  No conspiracy there.  Just a bunch of questions that should be answered.  We have thousands of people stationed in embassies around the world.  I do not like the idea that their security can be removed for whatever whim strikes the administration,  whether it is total krunch granola political theory, sinister plots, double dealing, parallel public and private foreign policies,  or whatever.

We have as a template Fast and Furious.  Why it should be considered beyond the pale to think this administration might attempt something similar in the Magreb,  I do not know.

'Mr. President, you of all people should know that when you spend so much time talking to other people, sometimes you say things in an inelegant way - for example, I don't automatically assume that you dislike those who, as you said, "cling to their guns and religion", as one might assume."

Turn it around, make it about SCOAMF.

217 167 is right. You don't intimate a snatch with a mortar barrage. they are a bit indiscriminate. Obama and friends couldn't get a troop cub scouts across a lake, don't project competence on them. Now, if Panetta wanted to do it or if it was financial and Soros was involved, then I'll start folding some tinfoil with you.

Hughes will pitch well until the 5th, when he will give up a single and then a towering home run. And that will be it.

222 88 Hot Damn! The turning of the screw...

read the documents:
http://tinyurl.com/9apxbq4
Documents: Despite ObamaÂ’s 2008 claims, political relationship with Rev. Wright began as early as 1987

Letters signed by Barack Obama 25 years ago, then the executive director of the Developing Communities Project, show the future president approaching ChicagoÂ’s then-mayor Harold Washington in 1987 about a community organizing project whose advisory board would include his pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright; the controversial leftist Catholic priest Father Michael Pfleger; and the brother of  Weather Underground terrorist Bill Ayers.

Before he entered Harvard Law School, a young Obama was growing in stature as a power broker among Chicago’s radical left and building an early example of a coalition that would grow in political power across the city. Obama pushed Washington — Chicago’s first black mayor — for a meeting with his informal advisory group to discuss an endorsement of the community organizing project.

Bravo, Daily Caller

I keep hearing about how Obama is planning to be more "aggressive" and "on the attack" in the debate tonight. But he's never attacked someone to their face, where they can actually respond in real time. He talks behind his opponents' backs more than a junior high schoolgirl.

The guy seems to be good only at the things that he's done a million times: give the same speech over and over, tell the same lame Slurpee jokes, and only to fawning audiences. Watching him attempt something so entirely foreign to him should be very interesting.

He can stand there with his Mussolini chin and act out in an aggressive community agitator style with union hall plants filling the "town hall", but it won't matter because he has no command of the facts.

And ALL of the pertinent facts can easily be used to indict him.

He may lose this debate in an entirely different manner this time, but more people now know that he is a dangerous loser, and his behavior and that of his stealth audience ringers may well seal the deal with a now skeptical electorate.
