— Gabriel Malor Happy Wednesday.
In CBS and CNN's post-debate polls, Obama just barely ekes out a win overall, but the details are devastating for him:
Romney was seen as better able to handle most issues. he had an 18-point edge among registered voters on the economy (58 percent to Obama's 40 percent ); a 3-point edge on health care (49 percent to 46 percent); a 7-point edge on taxes (51 percent to 44 percent); and, largest of all, a 23-point edge on the deficit (59 percent to 36 percent).
In other news, astronomers have found an Earth-mass planet orbiting Alpha Centauri, our nearest celestial neighbor. It's orbiting too close to the star to support life, though.
Also, Ace and Andy were blogging muy, muy late last night, so keep scrolling.

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Amid the attacks and countercharges in Tuesday’s debate, Mitt Romney appeared to make some news in saying he will seek to create ways to grant a path to citizenship to younger illegal immigrants brought here as children.
No more fking amnesty.

Six Days of War
For six tense days between June 5 and 10, 1967, war raged between Israel and its neighbors, Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. Michael Oren, a widely published American-born Israel scholar and historian, has comprehensively knitted together the conflict's diverse strands into a cohesive fabric that remains vital and relevant today.

This morning, he's also getting help from some on "our side" at NRO, where the tea-sipping yuppies are basically saying the Traitor-in-Chief "won," but then are covering themselves by saying Romney sort-of maybe didn't lose.
I can hardly wait 'til Poppin' Fresh climbs from his crib and shines the light of "fairness" on the debate! I'm sure he's still mourning the fact that his BFF, T-Paw, wasn't up there sluggin' it out with Obama.
Jeebus, you'd think when the ref steps in and starts throwing punches at one fighter, people would realize the fix is in. But it's beginning to look as if all the "conservatives" who suck up most of the bandwidth are gonna let Obama skate once again.

I sat down with her on the sofa and (as calmly as I could) tried to explain to her why Mitt Romney has whole binders filled with women. I tried to keep my voice steady, but it became increasingly difficult - the rage and feelings of helplessness were just too much. She could tell something was wrong. I found myself at such a loss for words - nothing made any sense; nothing makes sense anymore. I finally had to admit, " I just don't know - I don't know what's going on in this country anymore..."
When I finished her lower lip started to tremble and her eyes began to fill with tears, "Mommy" she said, "why are the Republicans doing this to the country?" Well, that was it for me: I finally fell apart. I just fell into her arms and we both began sobbing for several minutes. She had to comfort me and get me back on my feet. Sometimes I just think itÂ’s too much, but seeing the strength in my daughters voice helped me to get through.

1. Fast and Furious was introduced b Romney towards the end (when the AK-47 question was asked) . Romney said that there are questions about it that haven't been answered and started to elaborate, and boy, howdy did Obama and Crowley BOTH interrupt. Romney did manage to get in the Univision interview.
2. Regarding QE2, I think it better that Romney talked about China currency manipulation. It was easier for the audience to understand and a lot of Americans want someone to stand up to China.

Good morning, everyone. I see a lot of you watched the debate last night. Glad to hear Romney wins on points; from listening to the radio, you’d think the SCOAMF beat him like Danny Bonaduce. And I agree – somebody needs to make Candy “sit down, governor” Crowley pay for her antics. It’s about time somebody in the Romney camp (why not Sununu? Or, hell, why not Newt or Rudy?) came out swinging and made it clear that the MFM is on thin ice right now and if Crowley doesn’t get her fat ass handed back to her on a platter, every one of these bastards’ press passes will be pulled the minute Mitt takes the oath of office.
OK. Deep breath. Man, I hate[/b[ the media.
Today’s story is one of those “too good to be true” anecdotes, but here it is anyway:
If you’ve seen the 1965 movie [i]The Greatest Story Ever Told, you’re familiar with John Wayne’s cameo as Longinius, the Roman centurion at the foot of the Cross. Wayne wasn’t giving the right reading of his line, “Truly this man was the Son of God,” so director George Stevens pulled him aside.
“You’re a little flat, Duke,” Stevens said. “Remember, this is the moment when you realize that Jesus really is who He says He is. You need to acknowledge that. You need more awe in your reading.”
Wayne nodded and they set up for another take. “Action!” Stevens called.
The Duke looked up at the Cross and took a deep breath. “Awww, truly this man wuz the Son of Gawd.”
Hope you all have a wonderful day.

And speaking of drinking, all you Valu-Rite drinkers need to get with the new “in” thing. Its now bourbon and bourbon drinkers are increasing in mass numbers. This article talks about a famous bourbon bar in Charleston that has 51 different types. I’ll have to put that on my list of places to visit next time I go to Charleston.
I was there last week, Vic. You'd like the place. Very sleek and elegant (nice looking bartenders, too). They also have bottles of moonshine, since that is apparently "coming back," according to the bartender.
And if you ever go to Charleston, you have to eat at a place called Toast. The "Carolina Carpetbagger" - a filet with sauteed shrimp, all smothered in onions and bearnaise sauce - is the best damn breakfast dish I've ever had.

First off, I hate these town hall style debates because they turn over the questions to the ignorant and uninformed. Second, we also are supposed to believe that these people just happen to be undecided when clearly many/most aren't, and I don't believe that there are very many truly undecided anyway.
But if we want to go through this farce, why in the world is this debate in New York? Wouldn't it be more appropriate to have a debate like this in an undecided state? What use is an undecided voter in New York? Furthermore, is an undecided New York voter representative of an undecided voter in the rest of the country?
If you wanted to do the debates properly you'd have only two, there would be two questioners (one confirmed R, one confirmed D), one questioner would present the topic to the candidate who would have a certain time period to answer and the opponent would have a certain time period to respond, and while the answer/rebuttals were being given the opponent's microphone would be turned off to prevent interruptions.

It's not real moonshine though as they'd lose their license pretty quickly if they were selling the real stuff.
Speaking of which, I was watching that show "Moonshiners" one time and they featured a guy who used to operate a still but went legit. I believe he stated that he had to front a $1 million bond before he could get his license, and then he went through a very brief, edited description of just some of the regulations that he had to follow and it was absolutely insane. He had to provide the government with various plans, policies, and procedures, he had to track every single thing he did and provide the documentation to the government on a regular basis, and much much more. I wish I could remember all of what he said, and that was only the tip of the iceberg. It was just a small example of how difficult the government makes it to operate a business. If they really wanted to decrease moonshining and increase tax revenues they'd slash the idiotic regulations so as to encourage more moonshiners to go legit.

I would like to point something else out. JEF's answers were very hard to follow. He was loud and either whiny or angry sounding, but actual content was very difficult to find. I was lsitening intently because I knew he would lie (and he did) but often I found myself tuning out because his answers were long and convoluted.
Ace pointed out last night that several times Mittens missed the opportunity to tell the audience, "I'd just like to point out that in that rambling response the President never actually answered your question."

That is the way of all government regulations. You hire a bunch of workers for a new department called regulatory compliance. What they do is spend 10% of their time auditing and 90% completing paperwork.
Unless you are a crook. The you hire one part time worker to come in once a quarter and fill out a bunch of forms and send them in.
All the government wants is paper so a gov worker can audit it and have a job.

I watched both debates with my 15 year old daughter and she said both times that she thought Obama was talking in circles, that she couldn't really understand what he was talking about. She said she felt like Romney made more sense and was more specific about things.
I don't think I can handle another debate, I really can't take the lies and the bias anymore. I'm at my boiling point and it's really not good for my family to see me screaming and throwing things at the t.v.

True dat. I remember catching my secretary spending an hour or so on some paperwork one day. Since I was in the process of generating data base reports from the accounting system I asked her what it was, thinking I'd throw together a report option on a menu somewhere for her. I looked it over. Govment form, looking for all sorts of convoluted data. I also discovered that it was non compulsory.
Told her to shit can it and continue to shit can it, the government wasn't paying me to cover her salary. Within two weeks she told me she got a call from some govmint type begging her to continue to fill out the report.

It's even worse in education. An old family friend was telling me about when she started teaching back in the olden days her manual of requirements was practically nonexistent, maybe 20 or 30 pages. This was before the federal takeover of education. When her daughter in law started teaching some 30 or so years later the manual was now in a binder about an inch and a half thick. Her daughter in law spent a couple of hours a week just complying with paperwork, filling out various forms, etc, all things that would be passed up the ladder. But of course we don't spend enough on education.
I saw a great editorial cartoon one time. Two panels, the first panel was 1950 and showed a brand new shiny school and a tiny administrative building. The second panel was 2000 and showed the same school, now decrepit and falling apart due to lack of maintenance. Next to the rundown school was a shiny, brand new administrative building that was twice the size of the school and in perfect condition. A perfect cartoon that easily described where the bulk of the education money was going.

Combined that with the fact Hofstra is in NY metro area it is cheaper for the networks etc to have a debate near NYC.
I beginning to wonder if the one Hofstra debate will become a tradition every for every presidential election. However I was really surprised they decided to have this debate be the town hall format. I maybe recalling incorrectly but the 2008 debate was a regular one.

No, this was no win for Barry. He came across better when he was near comatose, last debate. People are so sick of his lies, his voice, his fake concerned whisper. His mere presence is an affront now, to most Americans.

When Obama's people agreed to that debate, they thought they would be ending on his strong suit. How's that working out guys?
The president lied his ass off last night. Between that mendacity and the Marx Brothers approach to Libya it should be interesting. Especially since it will cement the final issue which voters still have some questions on with Romney.
An American ambassador and four of our countrymen were killed in a deliberate attack on 9-11. All the signs have been in place for years that AQ would try to strike on that anniversary. Yet they were diabolically successful under President Obama. They raised the AQ flag over our embassy in Egypt. That won't play well.
Oh by the way. Mr. Obama is going to walk right into a shredder when he brings up that "he killed UBL". There are so many responses such as "well, no you didn't, the military did" and "which policies that were not formulated by prior administrations were used to *get* UBL"? Don't forget, Mr. Obama criticized the drone attacks.
It will be the last issue for likely voters. One thing Mr. Romney did last night was cement his strength on the number one issues with voters- the economy. That was Mr. Obama's last chance and it was clear he has no plans.

China - Obama just repeated the same stupid talking points that Biden used about Mitt and outsourcing and investments. Clearly that tank is empty for the dems. Mitt should be able to prep for this an hammer the crap out of him.
Bengazi - the scrunterator unwittingly helped keep this in the media conversation up to the next debate. Gotta think Mitt's team can focus the argument on Obama's incompetency on the right points and timeline.
F&F - Finally got mentioned. kept waiting for the "This was a Bush program" lie, but it never came. Barry is clearly scared shitless by this topic. Mitt's gotta get it in the next debate.
Mitt can also tie foreign policy back to economics and keep scoring the points he did again last night. This does not set up well for Barry. We have to sprint across the finish line but he is freaking toast.

And the presidential debate process as it stands right now, sucks. It's tilted against the Repub every time. The campaigns get together with the commission ahead of time and decide who will host the various debates. Well, this time around the Dem side objected to Fox, so Fox is out. Then the Rep side objected to MSNBC, so they're out. That just leaves left leaning ABC CNN NBC CBS and PBS.
The fix is in from jump street.
Here's what we have to do: take the debates away from the news networks. Pick a city, and let local reporters ask the questions. Maybe the debate could be in the form of dueling press conferences. Anything;s better than the dog n pony show we have right now

You know, I'm so glad that I have the support of real Americans in this race. Americans who love this country and don't want to see it destroyed by a communist ... I mean, a muslim. Well, okay, just an uppity Indonesian.
The support is so overwhelmingly beautiful, to me and my wife (you know, she's actually made out of a rare composite of vinyl and titanium dust - very lifelike, no?), and my brood of mannequins.
The thing I most appreciate is how the far right was pulling for my demise, hoping for ANYBODY but me, rooting for the Newtster, cheering for Santorum ... I mean, c'mon. Santorum? Yeah, but it's all water under the bridge. Your unflagging support is obviously because you really like me, my ideas, my record in Massachussets (don't ask me why I can't carry that state of ingrates), my cult- ahem, I mean, my Faith, my faith, yes. The libertarians who called me Obama-lite, I'm sure they didn't mean any of that, and the tea party, well, I know that you just hate Obama wayyyyy more than you love me.
But that's okay. I'm you're guy now.
I'll always be your guy -- the champion of small business (hedge funds and equity firms), a social conservative (eliminating Medicare, Social Security at the espense of protecting the economic class that will never need it), man of principal (my Chinese investments and offshore millions that will never be touched, thank you), and a fighter for freedom (the continuation of the stacked deck that keeps the middle class steppin' and fetchin' with a sagging economy, higher costs of living and no protectection of the air you breathe or water you drink).
But the biggest reason I love you, and I mean each and every one of you, is for your insistence on calling Obama out on his lies, his lies, his lies and his lies, while I grandstand, play coy with details, misrepresent myself on a daily basis, and alter my stated "policies" on an hourly basis.
Without you, I would surely not be the man you have made me into.

with respect to the dream act, didn't R-Money say in his comments, specifically, that he opposed amnesty? Or am I misremembering?
Posted by: BCochran1981
In an interview last week, Romney declared he wouldn't reverse Obama's amnesty because applicants had already put down deposits and calling a mulligan would be unfair or something.
Although, last I had heard, DHS or whoever is still writing the regs and the paperwork process is still in limbo.
But hey, at least Mitt is rock solid on affirmative action....

So the focus groups all trended to Romney, and Obama "wins" the "who won" polls?!?!?!?!/
I am starting to think that the respondents to these polls have turned to Romney and are starting to solidify their choice. It's hard to reconcile "Obama won the debate" with "Romney won on the issues;" in fact, I may be rationalizing here but it reads to me like, "Obama won the debate but I don't really care because I've decided to vote for Romney."

I went on to describe how his admin policies are stalling the economy, about the closing of coal mines, etc. She just nodded her head in agreement, did not challenge one thing I said.

All extremely important issues that are far too serious to talk about in the context of a campaign.
To the Obama Campaign's credit all they politicizes are small things, like Romney's dog (couldn't have been more than 40 lbs, tops.), Romney's religion, his tax returns, his horse, Ann's blouse. They making every effort to keep the campaign completely untainted by serious issues.

I am the ultimate Christian defender of faith, even though Joseph Smith is just as valid and important a prophet.

People know who I am. I am that loving uncle who wants to help you by making sure you have conformed to my notion of meritocracy.
Actually, I see you more as that loving uncle who wants to help his blossoming young niece discover her sexuality, but YMMV.

Oh sure, it starts funny, but in the end you're just left a crying snotty mess on the floor, sobbing into your 8th glass of Rose wondering where it all went wrong. Don't worry honey. We've all been there, and we're here for you.

Hey group, listen up. I need your help here. There's a Zogby ( I know, that sounds like a commie name, right) Poll in Florida that has me down by three points.
.
Hell, I need Florida. Isn't the governor a republican. That Puerto Rican guy, right? Marco Fabio or something like that. A lot of you all wanted him as my running mate. Well, I guess hindsight is 20-20 after all.
.
Whatever you can do to assist me with those old biddys and the beach billys down there, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Yep, if this was a truly representative governance, they'd make all those Welfare riders walk the street, collecting trash and doing general upkeep in their local areas. Or, some other public works projects.
But, since the limp-wrists say its demeaning to have them do menial work (gosh, I did it as an Army private on Police Call.... can I file a retro-grievance?) of this nature, and bay at the media on such cold-hearted requests...
But, its good to let them sit on the curb, pout, and decry how bad a life they lead. Welcome to Absirdistan....

Yep, Johnny Dollar - he REALLY knew how to work an expense account, or, at least he says so on Radio Classics...

My 19-year old daughter went to the Romney event last night in Leesburg VA (outside of DC--Loudoun County, Dulles Airport, etc) and said it was like going to a rock concert. Local papers estimating over 5K, facebook going up to 7 or 10.
She said it was a great speech, and at the end she saw two people holding up homemade signs from down front, turned around so people up the hill in the park could see: "Obama You're Fired" and "Democrats for Romney".
Outside the gates the line went down US15, and the big opposition protest was a group of a dozen HS students with signs for O.
In 08, Obama booked the same park; a little while ago he was here at a HS, drew less than 1000, and the local Dem committee had to give away some of the tickets to SEIU from MD to get that.
I think my county in northern VA is going to go hard Romney
