— Gabriel Malor Happy Tuesday.
NRO's Robert Costa has your definitive debate prep post. The short version: he's gonna try real hard and keep humanizing and be aggressive, but statesmanlike and try and talk in complete sentences while not letting Obama's smarm or the moderator's half-truths get under his skin. Okaaaaaay.
The Weather Channel has decided to start naming blizzards and big snowstorms. Because they're bored over there, or something.
Jerry Doyle will take over Michael Savage's time slot on talk radio. If you listen to the radio this might matter to you.
The Romney campaign has a new TV ad out today: "Already Has."

I liked Jerry Doyle's book. He went into radio after he stopped getting work in Hollywood after running for Congress as a Republican. (No, I'm not going to throw away my TV, I need it to watch Paul Ryan next week.)

Lockheed Martin and other defense contractors backed down from issuing layoff notices to employees on Monday after the Obama administration promised to pick up the tab for severance costs resulting from sequestration.
OK they “backed down” hinting that they were in a confrontation with Obama when in fact they were complying with a law PASSED by Democrats that requires notice in advance on layoffs.
The news provided welcome relief for President Obama, who faced the prospect of mass layoff notices in battleground states just days before the election, and outraged Republicans, who accused the administration of bending the law to hide job losses from the public.
So Republicans “accused” of “bending” the law. How about this scvrunts, he told the to break the law. The law says you will do this with regard to layoffs. He told them NOT to do that. Could it not be planer?
The White House issued guidance on Friday that said the government would cover the costs if contracts are canceled and layoffs occur due to the automatic spending cuts set for 2013. But that offer would be null and void for any contractor that issues job-loss warnings before sequestration begins.
What Obama did was say that he would illegally use tax payer money to reimburse companies for fines they would incur for intentionally violating the law. In legal parlance he is aiding and abetting a crime using government resources. What used to be called corruption and graft and he is doing it for pure political purposes. Yes, the press has become the enemy of the State. Note that Obama always has been.

Unless he jumps with some sort of cone surrounding him and has some sort of propulsion, he will not be able to reach mach speeds or be able to survive the sonic boom. His body would probably explode.

Yes but is he using some sort of propulsion system?
Even in an aerodynamic suit pointing straight at the ground how is he going
going to realize a 62% increase in speed to reach mach 1?
Posted by: General Woundwort at October 02, 2012 03:36 AM (06lNq)
No worries, he is. That comes across in spades and is what will ultimately convince people to vote for him.
As to terminal velocity, I assume that is usually in reference to sea level. Air pressure is what limits your speed. At 23 miles up, there isn't nearly as much air, hence less pressure.

Good morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes. Thanks for the news roundup, and all good wishes for you tomorrow, Vic.
Not much comes to mind today. Since Drew Barrymore had her first child, I was thinking of a Barrymore story, but none of the ones I know are all that interesting. Today is also the anniversary of one of Chaplin’s funniest shorts, The Pawnshop (1916), which you should really try to see; there’s a scene where he examines a clock that’s being pawned – if you don’t laugh yourself silly, I’d be very surprised.
But Chaplin took himself very seriously, and while there are stories about him, none of them are really funny, unless you consider how his appetite for barely pubescent girls kept getting him in trouble to be funny.
So apropos of nothing else, hereÂ’s a story from 1948:
On the set of That Lady in Ermine, leading man Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. had a birthday. The famous director Ernst Lubitsch decided to make an occasion of it, so when filming came to a stop at five that afternoon, champagne and a cake were brought out. After the cake was sliced and bubbly poured, co-star Betty Grable came forward with a gift. In keeping with the filmÂ’s title, she presented Fairbanks with an ermine-lined jockstrap.
Later on during filming, it was GrableÂ’s birthday. Fairbanks gave her an ermine-lined chastity belt.
Sorry for the rather limp entry today. I do know a couple of rather risqué stories about Fairbanks and Grable, but I’ll save those for Friday; just make sure to keep the junior morons out of the room.
But if you can’t wait until Friday, here’s a little hint: for Fairbanks, look up the Duchess of Argyll. Grable’s a little harder, but take a Paul Ryan hint and search under “stench.”
Hope you all have a wonderful day.

An employer who violates the WARN provisions by ordering a plant closing or mass layoff without providing appropriate notice is liable to each aggrieved employee for an amount including back pay and benefits for the period of violation, up to 60 days. The employer's liability may be reduced by such items as wages paid by the employer to the employee during the period of the violation and voluntary and unconditional payments made by the employer to the employee
IOW unending litigation from lawyers.

There are plenty of youtube Sehra's for viewing. The mullah prohibits any sung poetry praising the groom. And the police backed that prohibition enforced by violence. Note well the purging from their Muslim culture of any shared customs with the Hindi. Wahhabi at play?
http://tinyurl.com/9oo23w7
A Sehra (Hindi: सेहरा, (Urdu: سہرا
Sehra in poetry
In South Asian Muslim traditions, especially in Uttar Pradesh and Hyderabad (Deccan), there is a social ritual where the sisters of the groom sing a Sehra, a poem in praise of the groom and pray to God for his future wedded life. The groom follows this by giving cash to his sisters.
It is a genre of Urdu poetry, though there are no specifications for a Sehra except that it should rhyme and be of the same meter. Sehras are generally written by individuals praising their brothers, so they are very varied in style and nature. A good sehra appears in the Urdu film, Razia Sultana; however, this particular sehra was sung by males, quite contrary to the current tradition.

An employer who fails to provide notice as required to a unit of local government is subject to a civil penalty not to exceed $500 for each day of violation. This penalty may be avoided if the employer satisfies the liability to each aggrieved employee within 3 weeks after the closing or layoff is ordered by the employer.

Lawyers infest this Republic. We need a "no lawyers in any public office" amendment to the Constitution.
I am also really tired of the phrase "the government will pay for this" (re WARN act and F and F, etc.). Semantically, this is equivalent to "You stupid taxpayers that elected me the SCOAMF, voted for ANY democrat, and left RINO republicans in their "safe" Congressional seats will be footing the bill for the results of our illegal actions."

Sequestration was the result of the 2011 debt ceiling crisis.
The GOP in a moment of pure stupidity (redundant) allowed the debt ceiling to be raised and in return wanted 1.2 Trillion in cuts, the Donks said ok we'll give you cuts, but only in discretionary spending, guess what is one of the largest pieces of the discretionary budget pie?
If you guessed military you win!
Once again the GOP was taken to the cleaners and will now get the blame.
Well played GOP, well played!

But I guess if being an accessory to hundreds of cases of Murder One (F 'n' F) doesn't get you so much as a sternly worded letter, a simple thing like encouraging the commission of a crime doesn't mean anything.

Someone may have already covered this, but just in case....
This guy will not be the first to break Mach 1 in free fall, since it was already done years ago by Col. Joseph Kittinger, USAF, during Project Manhigh in 1957. He jumped from a helium balloon from 107,000 feet and exceeded Mach 1 (speed of sound) during his fall. Bear in mind that the speed of sound varies with air density.

2012 DOD Budget is 707 Billion
So 81% of the US Budget is spent on things other than military.
