Happy Thursday.

After getting soundly mocked, CNN pulled that post on the hormone/voting study. "Some elements of the story did not meet the editorial standards of CNN."

Cable provider Armstrong Utilities, which operates in 6 states including Ohio and Pennsylvania, is offering "2016: Obama’s America" as a “Free Movie Special” to all its subscribers on-demand at no charge.

There's lots of speculation on Twitter about how bad it would be for Obama if Hurricane Sandy hit New Hampshire or Philly right around Election Day. There's no early voting in Pennsylvania, so if the storm makes voting in Philly difficult on Election Day . . . well, I expect there'll be talk of letting voting go on the next day. An explainer on why Sandy's so hard to predict right now.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Thursday, October 25, 2012.  On this day in 1415 the Battle of Agincourt between England and France during the Hundred Years War took place. The ultimate test of longbow vs crossbow took place.  Or was it “knights get stuck in the mud while English archers decimate them”?

5 17 y.o. arrested for “allegedly” killing 10 y.o girl in CO.   He also faces charges for attempting to kidnap another woman.  If all of these charges are true then he is a serial killer and deserves the noose.  I long for the CO of the late 1800s.  This guy would already be dangling from a tree.

6 AZ voters will vote to this election on whether to take on the feds in reclaiming State control of the Grand Canyon.  The problem isnÂ’t simply the park itself, every time a Democrat is in office the feds add more land to federal control via executive fiat.  Western States are revolting, especially since Obama has started prohibiting oil drilling on these federal lands that they have usurped.

21 Bloat in public school administration?  Say it isnÂ’t so.  When I went to school my elementary school had one janitor and a principle that doubled as the second grade teacher.  Jr High had one principle and a secretary and a small janitorial staff that was shared with the High School. High school had one principle, one secretary who was assisted by a couple of students who were in the DCT program, and a guidance councilor who helped students with college applications. And we were the second top rated high school in the State.  I challenge anyone to find a staff that slim today in any school.

34 Vic,  regarding school administration,  I totally agree.  My grandkids school has a principal,  a vice principal, TWO secretaries,  a counselor, and  a Spanish students counselor.  And the school only has about 400 students.

The high school the grandson goes to has an entire suite of administrators.

Some of this is because of records keeping from the feds,  I am sure,  I know they have to turn in reports on numbers of kids who get free lunches, racial demographics, number of kids with disabilities, etc.

41 media buzz about hurricane Sandy

Seventeen out of twenty computer models on the Drudge link show it hitting the NorthEast USA. It's a combination of the hurricane and another low pressure area arriving at the same time that is going to tug it east. Not good for 0bama if it's on un-Election Day.

55 The thing about the Indiana rape business is, it's such a blatant indication they have no intention of holding the White House, but are now trying to hold the Senate.

And the funniest thing about that from my perspective, I'm not sure anyone told Barack Hussein Obama that he's no longer running for his own office, he's in full "defeat Mourdock" mode.

Which is probably a good idea, from the Dems' perspective.  He's a good cheerleader.  Lousy President, but  fine with the pom poms and fake enthusiasm.

Sudan claims Israel was behind the attack on the 'Yarmouk' arms factory. Analysts say Sudan is used as an arms smuggling route to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip via neighboring Egypt. Absolutely agree,  Sherry.  I am stunned that they ALL didn't have something prepared after Akin's problem.  I happen to have worked with Mourdock back in the70's,  and he didn't seem to me to be a stupid person backthen.

To me,  just because you are asked a question in adebate doesn't mean you have to ANSWER it.  If a questioner in a debate asked "Do you pick your nose while driving your car?"  would they feel like that had to give an answer?

No?  Then why not treat questions like this with the same contempt? It is a personal opinion anyway which would have no effect on the current abortion situation,  since there will not be an amendment to prohibit it and until a state challenges Roe vs Wade successfully,  it will stand.

68 At Monday's third presidential debate, President Obama pointedly promised that sequestered budget cuts that will affect defense spending "will not happen." OBAMA: First of all, the sequester is not something that I've proposed. It is something that Congress has proposed. It will not happen. [emphasis added] The next morning, in an off-the-record interview with the editors of the Des Moines Register, President Obama reversed course, taking credit for a sequester that he anticipates will be "in place.": OBAMA: "So when you combine the Bush tax cuts expiring, the sequester in place, the commitment of both myself and my opponent -- at least Governor Romney claims that he wants to reduce the deficit -- but weÂ’re going to be in a position where I believe in the first six months we are going to solve that big piece of business." [emphasis added] After loud complaints from new and mainstream media alike, the transcript of the President's interview with the Des Moines Register was made public today. Since these comments on the sequester represented a complete reversal of the position he took at the debate less than 24 hours earlier, it's easy to understand why the President's campaign initially wanted to keep them off the record.

77 @21

I post this periodically: http://tinyurl.com/75q9can

It's a link to a database of teachers in NJ and what they make.

There are 137,519 records. The average salary is $75,000.00
or roughly $10,000,000,000 spent on salaries alone.

To give you an example of the waste let's take one school that I am familiar with.

Kearny NJ - Kearny HS - Student Population: 1,775

Principal: $151,482
Asst. Principal 1: $137,081
Asst. Principal 2: $137,074
Asst. Principal 3: $136,716

That is not a misprint, there are in fact 3 Asst. Principals for a student body of less than 2000 students.

That's half a million dollars tied up in just 4 people at one school

They have 25 English teachers their average salary is 75,000.

The highest paid English teachers make in excess of 100,000 dollars a year.

Multiply this over the thousands of schools across the state and you looking at bucket loads of money.

And this is just the people who are on the books, the number of retired teachers. The amount owed to "retired" teachers is gargantuan.

How many Commanders-in-Chief can you get in one family tree? When itÂ’s former Massachusetts governor Mitt RomneyÂ’s family tree, the answer is six.

According to Ancestry.com, the worldÂ’s largest online family history resource, RomneyÂ’s family tree connects him to Franklin D. Roosevelt, Calvin Coolidge, Franklin Pierce, Herbert Hoover, and both George H.W. and George W. Bush.

Romney is connected to Presidents George W. Bush (10th cousins, twice removed), George H. W. Bush (10th cousins, once removed) and Franklin D. Roosevelt (8th cousins, twice removed) through Ann Marbury Hutchinson, a key figure in the development of religious freedom in America and early settler of Rhode Island and New York.

Romney is related to Presidents Calvin Coolidge (10th cousins), Herbert Hoover (10thcousins) and Franklin Pierce (6th cousins, 4 times removed) through Thomas Richardson, a landowner in the late 1500s in Hertfordshire, England.

91

Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes.  My desk is piled higher than Sandy FlukeÂ’s spirochete count, so only time for three quick stories today.  I think I may have told the first already, so if I did, skip it:

At the wrap party for the movie musical Bye, Bye Birdie, everyone, starting with director George Sidney, got up and offered toasts to Ann-Margret.  She was “the most talented,” said Sidney.  “The nicest,” offered another.  “The most beautiful.”  “The most adorable.”  One and on it went, the men in the cast and production crew trying to outdo each other on their praise for the lovely, bunk-worthy star.

The last person to offer a toast was Maureen Stapleton, who played the mother of star Dick Van Dyke.  SheÂ’d had quite a few drinks by this time, and more than her fill of praise for AM.  “Well,” she slurred, “I guess IÂ’m the only one on this picture who didnÂ’t want to fuck Ann-Margret.”

Earlier this week, I talked a bit about sex in Hollywood, mentioning in passing the Twentieth Century-Fox producer Darryl Zanuck, who kept a stable of starlets available for a daily 4.00pm fuck.  Not that it stopped him from pursuing other women; when he managed to push comedienne Judy Holliday down on a couch, she attempted to stop him by pointing to a photo of ZanuckÂ’s wife and children.  “How can you do this?” she wailed.  “ThereÂ’s your family!”  “Keep my family out of this,” Zanuck snarled as he stuck his hand up HollidayÂ’s dress.

But thatÂ’s not the story I wanted to tell.  In 1953, Zanuck signed a bisexual European actress of little talent named Bayla Weiger.  Besotted with her, Zanuck changed her name to Bella Darvi and did his best to turn her into a major star.  She didnÂ’t have much of a career, and studio insiders were baffled as to why she had such a hold over the powerful mogul.  “Simple,” explained writer / director Nunnally Johnson.  “Bella took him to bed and until then he thought it was something you did on top of a desk.”

And, finally, a quick vignette from the book I mentioned yesterday, Tony RandallÂ’s Which Reminds Me:  One time, Randall and Groucho Marx were sitting backstage at the Booth Theater for a Tony Awards broadcast.  In one dressing room were all the men from Broadway shows and in another, directly across the way, were all the women from the Broadway musicals.  The womensÂ’ door was open and you could see some of the chorus girls running around stark naked.

Pointing out one especially delicious chorine, Groucho leaned over to Randall and said, “You donÂ’t get  this in the pants business.”

Gotta run.  Hope you all have a wonderful day.

In other words, if 2 or 4 years from now, you can advertise yourself as the guy who managed to raise $10 million* over the last two weeks of the disastrous Obama campaign, even though your candidate was going down like Andi Sullivan during fleet week, that's quite an accomplishment.

Posted by: Alec Leamas at October 25, 2012 07:38 AM (auPSv) It's already happened; in the late19th century (1893) and a couple in the early 20th century. In one hurricane, a large island in Long Island Sound was totally obliterated (Hog Island). I believe the 1893 hurricane was totally forgotten for a long time. Meanwhile, in the 1980s, a major storm was barreling towards Manhattan and could have taken the Citibank building down. This is a great story. A grad student was doing a paper ont he Citibank building at 53rd street and had questions about the building's torsion strength. It turned out, it had none! The building needed to be retrofitted with major supports on the frame but before it could be done a serious storm took straight aim at Manhattan. It veered off at the last minute and the building was retrofitted and fixed, but it was almost a potential major disaster.

Funding of urban mass transit is not an "earmark" as earmarks are traditionally allocated.  It is included in legislation decades ago when the Democrats perpetually ruled congress.  20% of all gasoline taxes are automatically diverted to urban mass transit and they add to it in every damn highway bill.

An expert from Black Box Voting Inc., Bev Harris is the author of Black Box Voting: Ballot Tampering in the 21st Century.

I've been against computer ballot voting all along. Too easy to "fix" in the most egregious ways. No paper trail. The paper ballot with ink fill in the blank (ex: SAT exam format) tabulated by computers is the ideal, leaving a paper trail, and not identifying/connecting the log in of the voter/ballot. Computer voting machines do provide an opportunity to abuse, closer to terminating the private ballot.

There's lots of speculation on Twitter about how bad it would be for Obama if Hurricane Sandy hit New Hampshire or Philly right around Election Day.

I was actually talking about this with my father just last night.  I don't think Sandy will hold off another week and a half before making an impact here in the northeast, but if     the impact is severe enough it could have lingering consequences in terms of the election.     Then again,    as I mentioned to my dad, I would crawl across broken glass, downed power lines and flooded sewers to vote the SCOAMT out of office.   I can't imagine anyone going through all that to vote him back IN.

194 Mostly correct, Kelley.

My model accounts for the current preferences of the Independents in each poll.  The 2008 model just says "What is actual lead if the electorate matches the 2008 turnout, including how the Independents will vote this time".

Different polls show different results because they are seeing different levels of Ind support.  This way I am able to average the Ind preference across multiple polls.

However, if the electorate really matched 2008, then Obama would be slightly ahead, even with Ind's supporting Romney.  I have accounted for that.

WASHINGTON (AP) — What gender gap?

Less than two weeks out from Election Day, Republican Mitt Romney has erased President Barack Obama's 16-point advantage among women, a new Associated Press-GfK poll shows. And the president, in turn, has largely eliminated Romney's edge among men.

As the election nears, Romney has been playing down social issues and trying to project a more moderate stance on matters such as abortion in an effort to court female voters. The AP-GfK poll, taken Friday through Tuesday, shows Romney pulling even with Obama among women at 47-47 after lagging by 16 points a month earlier.

A month ago, women favored Obama over Romney on the economy 56 percent to 40 percent. Now, the split has shifted to 49 percent for Romney and 45 percent for Obama.

So the next 2 weeks are all going to be about "women's issues" because Barry is sinking in the polls

I think it is extreme disgust and fatigue with the obamas.  If I had taken an oath to take a bullet for the POTUS, whomever that might be, and by extension, FLOTUS, any minor children, and the VPOTUS and his spouse AND then found out that meant taking a bullet for obama, mooch, biden, and jill, I might find myself partying like the last days of Pompeii.  It certainly does not excuse it, but, stop and think what it must be like to think you might be called upon at any minute to lay down your life for people who are as attractive and worthwhile as a used fly strip in an Illinois hog barn.

235 Regarding hurricanes hitting the northeast, 1n 1978, about 2 or 3 years after the Citicorp Building was erected (53rd Street, 3rd and Lexington Avenues), the designers discovered a fatal flaw in its construction. It was built to withstand 150mph winds against sides, but NOT against the edges of the structure. Engineers effected repairs, installing appropriate cross bracing and a massive multi-ton concrete wind damper on the roof. It was completed within days of a hurricane approaching from the south Atlantic. It ultimately veered away, but had repairs been delayed or not done, the building could have toppled over in a very strong wind storm. Amazing. If this is a repeat, sorry. Tried to post earlier but the site froze.

They still talk about the 1938 hurricane here in NH.   I was obviously born many years later, but the eastern half of my hometown was literally destroyed by that hurricane.   There were all kinds of urban legends about    an    inbred motorcycle gang that haunted the area in later years.  I don't know how that would be possible, since "destroyed by a hurricane" generally means "no roads for motorcycles and no buildings    in which    to be screwing your sisters," but that's why urban legends are fun.

Mike Allen reports: FIRST LOOK – Rolling Stone cover, “Obama and the Road Ahead: The Rolling Stone Interview,” by Douglas Brinkley: “We arrived at the Oval Office for our 45-minute interview … on the morning of October 11th. … As we left the Oval Office, executive editor Eric Bates told Obama that he had asked his six-year-old if there was anything she wanted him to say to the president. … he said, ‘Tell him: You can do it.’ Obama grinned. … ‘You know, kids have good instincts,’ Obama offered. ‘They look at the other guy and say, “Well, that’s a bullshitter, I can tell.”’” Nice language for a " President"?

That's amusing.  I can't remember the last time I responded to  one of TPOP's comments or was responded to by him/her.

I am usually in mild  agreement, mild disagreement, or just don't read him because his comments are usually really long.

And vice-versa,  I suppose.  But when you're flailing  about for material,  I Know You Are But  What Am I is always there for you, waiting to suck.  It's like the shitty pistol you start off with  in any video game, ever.

368 David S. Bernstein ‏@dbernstein Globe atty seems to want only the transcripts, not to lift gag order. This is not what Allred wants - but her client is not party here.

369 Colin  Powell  is  a  racist  shitstain  if  he's  a  republican.  He's  a  blithering  idiot  if  he's  not  a  republican.  If  Romney,  the  moderate  from  the  primary,  is  not  suitable  for  Colin  Powell  he's  in  the  wrong  party  because  even  RINOs  don't  go full  Marxist  like  Obama.

370 Fellow Oklahoma 'Rons and 'Ettes, below is my research on judges on this year's ballot.  I intend to vote Yes on only Thornbrugh, Buettner, and Mitchell.  Given how much I loathed Brad Henry as one of our most ineffective Governors ever, it will give me great pleasure to vote against his appointees.
-----
Noma Gurich -- appointed by Brad Henry
Yvonne Kauger -- appointed by George Nigh
James Edmondson -- appointed by Brad Henry
Douglas L Combs -- appointed by Brad Henry
Carlene "Clancy Smith" -- appointed by Brad Henry
Arlene Johnson -- appointed by Brad Henry
David B Lewis -- appointed by Brad Henry
P Thomas Thornbrugh  -- appointed by Mary Fallin
William C Hetherington  -- appointed by Brad Henry
Kenneth L Buettner -- appointed by Frank Keating
Robert Bobby Bell -- his site very carefully does not say who appointed him, but, it was 2006, so it had to be Brad Henry
Bay Mitchell -- appointed by Frank Keating

371 David S. Bernstein ‏@dbernstein Sounds like judge is leaning toward releasing the transcripts while leaving the gag order in place. #stapled not sure what that means. I assume Allred would still be prevented from talking about them. I suspect after the Globe gets te transcripts, they will go back into court ad ask for the gag order to be removed.

375 Most kids are doing basic algebra as freshman in high school.

You could get a diploma at my HS without ever setting foot in an algebra class.

The regular college prep kids are doing basic algebra as freshmen. Which I amuse is what Obama's kid is.

377 I suck at math, but I managed to stumble my way through algebra I and II and geometry in high school.  I wasn't allowed to take pre-cal because I wasn't in honors math.  I couldn't take physics either because you weren't allowed to take one without the other.  How is that even possible?  I never understood it.  Especially in this day and age, when every one is freaking out about math and science.  High school age kids who want to take these subjects should be able to even if they fail miserably.  The exposure to the ideas is important.

378 geez I meant assume not amuse. My husband called and distracted me. But my point is the kid is probably doing basic algebra and this beyond the smartest man in the universe.

379 250 Hey, check out this T-shirt Romney's selling... link in my sig

I may just buy one.

I bought one a month ago. It's nice, if a bit.....red. It's aggressively red. Not that I'd object, but it doesn't say "Mitt Romney" anywhere on it, so it's just as appropriate after the election if you care about that sort of thing.

Algebra is exercise for your brain.
