re: the Erin Burnett video in the sidebar...it's not that surprising to me that she did a piece like that (well, maybe the on CNN part)...when she was at CNBC, she was one of the few (as in 2 or 3 tops) who'd occasionally ask a lefty guest a hard question and question lefty assumptions. She's probably as leftward-leaning as most of the rest of CNN, but she does seem to occasionally remember what a journalist's job actually is. Not often, but from time to time at least.

Everybody knows how to get to the Drudge Report or the Wall Street Journal, so do not waste any time in getting to the Peggy Noonan (!) commentary on the first debate.
Everyone else makes the point that people saw the real Romney for the first time, but she makes the better point that people (who don't much pay attention) also saw the real Obama for the first time --- petty, disengaged, in over his head, overconfident, and patronizing.
The people who hang out here already know this, but she puts it together very cogently.

Scandal: More than six hours after terrorists attacked our consulate, former Navy SEALs manned a blood-soaked machine gun to defend U.S. territory. Meanwhile Apache helicopters sat on the ground in Italy.
At 4 a.m. local time on Sept. 11 — six hours and 20 minutes after the initial attack began — former Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were killed at the CIA annex not far from the consulate by a mortar shell. The machine gun they were firing was encrusted with blood, an indication they continued to fight after being wounded.

It is now known that on the evening of September 11, 2012, Ambassador Christopher Stevens conducted a scheduled meeting with a Turkish diplomat. At approximately 8:30 PM, the ambassador saw his visitor out the gate. There were no protesters in front of the consulate then, nor did any of the survivors of the attack report the presence of demonstrators prior to the initial assault. Videotapes recovered from the compound show, at least partially, what happened.

Retiree Robert Stevens says he turns off

he hangs up the phone when it's a presidential

Then don't vote at all, you slack-jawed moron! If you're a retiree and, after four years of the dog-eating retard STILL don't know who to vote for, then just go back to dribbling in your Wheatena and Sanka and let people who know what they're doing take care of things.
[deep breath; clears head]
Good morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes. Eleven days until Mooch gets her eviction notice!
This was a story I meant to tell a while ago, but never got around to it: have you ever heard of the inventor of motion pictures, Louis-Aimé Augustin Le Prince?
“I thought Edison invented movies,” you’ll say. Well, that’s what Edison would have liked you to believe, but Le Prince, who used Eastman paper film (flexible celluloid film had yet to be invented) with a single-lens camera, was years before Edison. In fact, two of his surviving films, Roundhay Garden Scene and Leeds Bridge are now considered the world’s first motion pictures; both were shot in 1888.
So why havenÂ’t you heard of him? Because he disappeared.
Here’s the story – in the early 1880’s, Le Prince spent time in the US, working on his camera and trying to find the best material for film stock. By 1888 (now living in England), he had perfected his camera, abandoning his original 16 lens idea and now shooting on paper with a single lens. So, in the fall of 1890, after a visit to family in France, he felt he was ready to patent his camera, and also planned on a US tour to promote it. On September 16, waving goodbye to his brother, he hopped aboard the Dijon to Paris express train.
The train arrived. Le Prince didn’t. Neither he nor any of his luggage was found on the train or anywhere along the railway. Nobody remembered seeing Le Prince during the trip and nobody – except for his brother – ever reported seeing him get on the train. It was if he had vanished into thin air.
So what happened? Well, there are four theories:
- Le Prince committed suicide because he was bankrupt (not true);
- he was killed by agents of the Edison company hoping to support EdisonÂ’s claim to have invented the movie camera (this is the subject of the book Lost Reel, but thereÂ’s no evidence for it;
- the family made Le Prince disappear because he was bankrupt and gay (again, not true so far as money, and thereÂ’s no evidence Le Prince was gay);
- Le Prince was killed by his brother (perhaps, but why?)
In 2003, a researcher going through the Paris police files came across a photograph of a man who had drowned in 1890. The photo wasnÂ’t labeled, but the man looked very much like Le Prince, and now it tends to be accepted that, somehow, Le Prince got off the train and fell into the water.
I donÂ’t particularly buy that theory. To the best of my knowledge, the Dijon-Paris express had no stops along the line. And nowhere can I find evidence that anyone asked for the train to stop, even for a moment. So if the body was Le Prince, how did he get off the train? And why?
And thatÂ’s it for me today. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and if youÂ’re in SandyÂ’s path, stay safe.
I’ll be back on Monday with another mystery – did Bette Davis kill one of her husbands?

I'm still at a point where I'm extremely cautious about believing what we're hearing from Mr. Woods. Grieving people say and do lots of things they wouldn't otherwise do if they weren't in that state of grief.
I'm not saying he's lying, but it's possible he's feeling so strongly about his son's death, some of the things he's saying are not entirely accurate reports of what he experienced.
Just a possibility, and something we all might want to keep in mind as we hear his quotes of the Dem pols, without any corroborating evidence.

Under Secretary of State Jon Husted's initiative to send absentee ballot applications to nearly 7 million registered voters across Ohio, more than 800,000 people so far have asked for but not yet completed an absentee ballot for the Nov. 6 election.
Anyone who does not return an absentee ballot, deciding instead to vote at the polls, will be required to cast a provisional ballot. That's so officials may verify that they did not vote absentee and also show up at the polls.
By state law, provisional ballots may not be counted until at least Nov. 17.

R+4.36% - Average using the 2010 turnout model
R+4.40% - Average using the 2004 turnout model

Overall, about a .25% move toward Romney in all the averages. Romney continues to out perform his national averages in Ohio by about .5%. Current D+3 turnout nationally is R+2.13% but the D+3 turnout average in Ohio is R+2.72%

This is huge for those who have been following polling with these crazy 2008 samples. Gallup now tells us it is utterly bogus despite the fact they continue to do it!
In 2008 the electorate was 54/42 Dem/Rep. In 2012 it is 46/49 Dem/Rep, a MASSIVE 15 point shift to Republicans! Yet every major pollster right now is using a D +5 Sample. This is inexplicable.
Gallup is telling us the sample should be R +3! If that is the case Romney is actually FAR ahead now and every single poll is wrong. We are looking at a Romney landslide.

Yep. I hope that they're better with a Romney Administration- less afraid to do what needs to be done. The Republicans need to understand that they cannot flinch from, nor apologize for, pursing Conservative policies. After 4 years of TFG, we need to roll back a very large portion of the bureaucratic leviathan which has been created.
The first two bills that pass both the House and Senate in January 2013 should read:
"The Patient Affordable Care Act is hereby repealed in full."
and
"The Dodd-Frank Financial Regulatory Act is hereby repealed in full."

All that stuff, too. But a) those can be done by Romney alone (the EPA reports to him, after all, as would the 'czars'), and b) I was only mentioning the first two. After those two there need to be a litany of others which repeal so much of this patchwork.
I think the next piece I may right is one on why de-regulation is actually good for the consumer- not just in lower prices, but because it also makes it harder for companies to cheat when everyone knows the rules.

From the KTRH 740 AM (Houston) website KTRH.com:
"Earlier this week, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott warned a group connected to the United Nations he would prosecute them if election monitors got to within 100 feet of polling places.
That group - the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe - responded by saying that was, "unacceptable." Abbott answered on Twitter with two simple words, “Bring it.”
The Attorney general, in a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, said, "The Election Code does not authorize OSCE representatives to enter polling places. If the OSCE does not want to follow Texas law, then perhaps it should send its representatives to another state." He added that, "I'm particularly offended that the European organization seems to be working with American groups tied to ACORN -- a community coalition accused of voter fraud."
Local officials are following AbbottÂ’s lead. Harris County Clerk Stan Stanart has publicly promised to remove any election monitor that comes into the county from the OSCE.
Galveston County chief deputy clerk, Bill Sargent, who oversees county elections, took to his Facebook page for his response, writing online that, “"If one of the UN Observers shows up at one of our polling locations they will be asked to leave. If they do not, law enforcement will be called to forcibly remove them."

Now why would there be a burst of government spending? Could it have anything to do with making the last GDP number before the election look better. And without the government spending how feeble would it have been?
The pickup in growth may help President Barack Obama's message that the economy is improving. Still, growth remains too weak to rapidly boost hiring. And the 1.74 percent rate for 2012 so far trails last year's 1.8 percent growth, a point GOP nominee Mitt Romney will emphasize.

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in Texas' favor (2nd time) on the issue of stopping funding to abortion providers.
Planned Parenthood had requested that the court reconsider its August decision that upheld a new state law cutting funds to organizations that perform or promote abortion.
Gov. Rick Perry today released the following statement on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals decision to deny Planned ParenthoodÂ’s request for reconsideration of the CourtÂ’s August decision to uphold state law:
“Today’s ruling affirms yet again that in Texas the Women’s Health Program has no obligation to fund Planned Parenthood and other organizations that perform or promote abortion. In Texas we choose life, and we will immediately begin defunding all abortion affiliates to honor and uphold that choice.”
Opponents of the law say it will end preventative care to thousands of Texas women.

I don't think Gallup weights their poll for party ID. I believe I read somewhere that their survey method is more rigorous than others and is designed to get a sample that is more representative of the total population. Because of this they don't need to reweight. This method avoids the potential problems associated with weighting polls but it's also more expensive, which is why other companies tend to avoid it.

Yes, that's wrong.
That's what DiF's "models" are all about. See, in 2008, voter turnout was something like D+7. Most of that, he'll point out, was not actually that the D's turned out in those awesome numbers (thought they did have bigger than normal turnout) but that Rs stayed home.
In 2010, EVERYBODY went out to vote, and when everyone votes, Republicans win (the Democrats don't want you to notice that, however). In 2004 was another "Everybody" year.
The thing about those years was they were still D+ (from a little to a lot). IF the Rassmussen and Gallup Party ID numbers are right, that means the real electorate- the actual turnout- will be R+. If that happens, then Obama get's curbstomped in a week and a half, because the polls are all polling D+3 or greater.
Think of it like this: there are the polls are saying there are 40 Democrats and 33 Republicans, with 27 Independents. If Gallup & Ras party ID tracking is correct, though, there will be 35 Ds, 38 Rs, and 27 Is on election day. With Romney running away with the independent vote, that means he'll absolutely smash Obama.

Even Susquehanna? I'd guess they're using a different turnout model because their PA polls are the only ones that seem to lean decidedly Right.
I'm kinda glad the polls aren't fooling us, but these D+ numbers are insane. D+3 is the upper end of what I'll believe.

I find it's cathartic to have that song blasting through my car windows when I pull into a parking spot at the voting location. The fuckers with the Obama signs stay the hell away from me.

There have been no changes in the race since about October 11th. I'm showing a constant level of support for Romney across all turnout models. The 2nd and 3rd debates had no affect on the polls.
Pretty much, everyone made up their minds on Oct 6th, and hasn't changed them. Now what we are seeing is a ramping up of enthusiasm that will be reflected in what turnout looks like.
I could tell you the what the lead would be in an R+3, Even, and D+3 turnout election on October 11th. The lead in those 3 models has only changed by a few 100ths of a percent. What has changed since the 11th is that a probable D+3 election became a probable Even election. And now we are pushing toward an R+3 election.

And in other news:
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- A deputy assistant attorney general who said he was on his lunch break when an officer found him with a stripper and sex toys in his sport utility vehicle has been fired, his boss said Wednesday.
Roland Corning, 66, a former state legislator, was in a secluded part of a downtown cemetery when an officer spotted him Monday, according to a police report obtained by The Associated Press under the Freedom of Information Act.
As the officer approached, Corning sped off, then pulled over a few blocks away.
He and the 18-year-old woman with him, an employee of the Platinum Plus Gentleman's Club, gave conflicting stories about what they were doing in the cemetery, Officer Michael Wines wrote in his report, though he did not elaborate.
Corning gave Wines a badge showing he worked for the state Attorney General's Office. Wines, whose wife also works there, called her to make sure Corning was telling the truth.
He then searched the SUV, where he found a Viagra pill and several sex toys, items Corning said he always kept with him, "just in case," according to the report.
Corning and the woman were let go without charges. Wines' wife reported the call to her supervisor, who told Attorney General Henry McMaster.
"We received credible information about inappropriate behavior Monday afternoon," McMaster said Wednesday. "And by the close of business, he was no longer working here."
Such a trip to the cemetery "would not be appropriate, at any time, for an assistant attorney general," McMaster said.
There was no answer Wednesday at a number listed for Corning, who was a Republican legislator in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He was hired in 2000 by the attorney general's office, where he worked on securities cases.
I'm surprised they didn't lead with "Republican."

Congressmen Jim Moran, Bobby Scott and Gerry Connolly on Wednesday asked Attorney General Eric Holder to investigate a Republican-hired firm, Pinpoint, amid allegations of voter fraud.
cnn last night.
think this is in retaliation over his son / being caught on video in election fraud a few days ago?

No, they'll probably go back to the University of Chicago Lab School, which is where they went before 2008. The school was founded by John Dewey for the poor of the south side of Chicago; but now is exclusively for the rich (tuition +$20K) and well connected.

I banged a chick who went to the Lab School.
Smokin' hot body, raging liberal, and dumber than a rock.

Odds are good they're still in there. On full salary.
In NYC, don't they call those "rubber rooms"? It's a fluke.
It didn't happen though -- no pics.

No, they had already sent that letter to Holder. That was in the news here earlier in the week. It's a convenient coincidence, but still a coincidence.

My own version. Sorry CSNY, I guess yours was good too, for its time.
Big drone strikes and Obama's comin'.
Chris Stevens was abandoned.
This summer I hear the drummin'.
Four dead in Libya.
Gotta get down to the polls.
Democrats are cutting us down.
Should have been changed long ago.
What if you knew him and
Found him dead on the ground?
How can you run when you know?
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.
