Happy Monday.

If you're not in the path of this hurricane, I feel sorry for how much you're going to have to hear about this hurricane over the next few days.

The 17-member crew of the HMS Bounty has abandoned ship off the coast of North Carolina. Yes, apparently, the HMS Bounty.

More news in a bit.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Monday, October 29, 2012.  On this day in 1929 the stock market crashed in what has become known as Black Tuesday.  And contrary to the media myths, it did not cause the “Great Depression”.  That was caused by subsequent actions by the government and the Fed.

2 Sandy tracking.  Looks like the track has moved slightly to the South.

Idiot on Fox (Steve Ducy) showing the ocean washing up in Raleigh, NC.  Boy that storm is bad.  The oceans is washing 100 miles inland now.   Also, we are in a "slow growth economy" now so that explains all the unemployment.  Imagine if Bush was still President.

8 Kindle Daily Deal:
Against His Will
FBI agent Jake Donnelly and pet psychologist Leanne Crosby tried to resist each other, but it was impossible. It started after JakeÂ’s Aunt Sophie left him her beloved bulldog, Muffin, along with a sizable inheritance. There was one catch: he had to bond with the dog to receive the inheritance, and Leanne is there to help.

And thatÂ’s it for this Monday morning.  Sandy is sucking all the news O2 this morning so not much else is out there.  All you NJ and NY Morons lets be safe out there.  It looks like it will come ashore around midnight tonight.

10 From that link above about the Bounty.

The world-famous vessel - which featured in Hollywood blockbusters Mutiny on the Bounty and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - sailed into trouble on Sunday night about 90 miles southeast of Hatteras, North Carolina.

Someone needs their Captain's ticket pulled.  WTF were they doing sailing a vessel into the path of a hurricane?

Posted by: Vic at October 29, 2012 07:16 AM (YdQQY) Yeah ... this was the famed "Clinton card" that Bill was allegedly egging Shrillary to pull on Barky. It's a load of crap. If Shrillary asked and was denied, then she just said, "Okay, I don't care either way." It's a big nothing since they are all culpable in this at many different levels. Besides, as I said in the thread about this, Shrillary jumped on the lying cover-up for the whole time right after the attack, anyhow. Shrillary was as bad a traitor in this as Barky. She was dancing on the coffins with Barky and Panetta.

47 From Theo Spark

According to the Pentagon:

The Pentagon defended its decision not to deploy forces to Benghazi, Libya, as soon as the U.S. mission came under attack on September 11th, saying it would have been irresponsible to put forces in harm's way without better information.

Does this sound like a “responsible” decision to you? Imagine if your local police department responded in the same way:

Operator: 911 operator. What is your emergency?

Caller: Someone has broken into my house! Please send help!!

Operator: OK sir, stay calm. Now, how many have broken in?

Caller: I donÂ’t know. I locked myself into the bathroom. But I can hear them ransacking though the house.

Operator: What are the names of the intruders?

Caller: Uh, I donÂ’t know

Operator: How are they armed?

Caller: I donÂ’t know!!

Operator: Why did they break into your house? What do they want?

Caller: HOW SHOULD I KNOW??!!!

Operator: Well IÂ’m sorry sir. I canÂ’t dispatch police until I have this information. It would be irresponsibleÂ…Â…..Â…Click.

54 Prayers, and best wishes to those looking at a hurricane bearing down on them. New (to me) developments in the matter of Benghazi: The Blaze has a story attr. to a Lt. Col. that L'il Barry was watching in real time the s**t get real. http://preview.tinyurl.com/8feey7z "Where the [blank] is SPECTRE?" Fox's Jennifer Griffin quotes one of our SEALs on the ground. http://preview.tinyurl.com/92f9qb5 (Blaze, again). K-Lo at The Corner blog at National Review links to this (http://preview.tinyurl.com/29mo8pg) at Powerline. In their infamous on-the-one-hand/on-the-other-hand Dartmouth style, they let readers make and counter the assertion that our brave SEALs on the ground had a laser-designator on the mortar crew that may have killed them, and that, if there was a SPECTRE, someone, either our Dear Leader, CiC L'il Barry, or AFRICOM's General Ham, had to give the order not to fire, as SOPs would require it. I am still not satisfied. Entia non sunt multiplicanda. I think there is going to be an inner coterie behind this at the end, people from unlikely areas and levels, recruited for their ideological purity and for no other reason. People like Tammy Baldwin, Bill Ayers, human shields from Iraq, and Gaza activists Janet Kobren and Gene St. Onge, are now working in our government to do-- what? W/e they're doing does not have my consent.

The CLinton's are cunning. You can bet your sweet ass that if she saw danger on the horizon and he denied protection, she has the proof stashed away somewhere.

The question is just what is she negotiating in exchange for that information.

She will either get something out of keeping quiet or she will get something out of spilling the beans.

60 Bold prediction? Romney will win by a large margin.

Proof? Not only are the polls headed in his direction but history shows an incumbent has never overcome these type of numbers. Especially given the velocity with which they are changing.

The second part, which is also worrisome, is that some Democrats are already starting the "why can't we all just get along" talk. Combined with pressure on Mr. Romney to work in a "bipartisan" manner- that should scare the pants off anyone wanting to move us in the right direction.

Nothing, and I mean nothing good has ever come from the type of "bipartisan" talk from Democrats. In fact it has made our situation worse. It has been their firewall against making any meaningful change that will help our situation in the long term.

I will sound the alarm bell now. While Romney is far better than Obama, be prepared to be both frustrated and dissapointed by the trifecta of Romney, Boehner and McConnell. Especially when it comes to important decision for our future such as a SCOTUS nomination. This all guarantees any changes will not endure over time and simply kicks our challenges further down the road.

I always assume Obama is more of a figurehead, whereas the Clintons more or less drive their own car (how's that for a mixed metaphor).  If that's the case, and Hillary still has hopes of running for the White House, she's negotiating, not with Barack Hussein Obama, but with the Powers-That-Be (aka Jarrett, Axelrod, etc.).

It would then follow that she'll use whatever proof she has to secure their support in '16, whether that use is to release it or to keep it quiet.

Problem is for both of them, there are career diplomats and other State employees who don't care for politicians of either party, and they don't like their personnel being, at best, used as pawns, and at worst obviously, killed.

The concern is for what it grows into when it merges with the other big weather formation in the region. Past observations of such events suggest it could grow considerably.

Weather prediction is about looking at what happened before in known situations and what the results were for 100 or more such observations. If the guy on TV say 40% chance of rain, that means out of the last 100 times these conditions were observed, it rain on 40 of them.

Pretty much EVERY time they've observed two such formations merging in the past it nearly always turned into a monster storm. This usually happens very far from any inhabited land.

Not this time.

90 Last I heard Sandy was a Cat. 1. So why is it a SUPER STORM and we are all gonna die? The media sucks.

****

Sandy is a VERY different storm.

First, she is a hurricane...for now...but will lose that designation later today when she becomes "extratropical". She will become the equivalent of a Winter hurricane as the power of Sandy interacts with a Winter storm that is moving in. This will create what equates to a much wider "eye wall" with hurricane and tropical storm force winds over a much, much broader area than with a "tropical" Sandy. With this storm, there will be rain and ice, and snow, not just rain.

It is an interesting phenomena.

Basically, it creates an awful, terrible, no good, really, really bad Nor'Easter with really, really bad winds.

Reminds me of the time we sailed through a typhoon (90,000T aircraft carrier can do that).  They passed the word every 10 min to stay off the flight deck and all weather decks due to high winds and heavy seas.

98 Last I heard Sandy was a Cat. 1. So why is it a SUPER STORM and we are all gonna die?

There are a couple components to every storm. One is wind speed, the other is pressure. Just as in politics there are 'low information' voters there are weather people who aren't very good at putting some knowledge to viewers. Extremely low pressure usually means the water is gonna really rise -- which will be really tough on coastal areas closest to the 'eye' of the storm. Outwards from that area it's gonna be a yawner.

During the storm the bay came over the wall by about 2 feet and we were a good 1000 miles from the storm. Anyone who thinks this is a joke is in for a very bad surprise.

Especially so-called Independents. This piece is about as explicit as it gets. Goodwin, a registered Democrat of the NY Post, explains that he always votes Independent, meaning for the person, not the party. Really, this is good. Especially the reasons why he could not vote for obama again. He said he was fooled, duped. But, not again. He said he "got a jolt of Messiah Alert when he said his rise marked the moment “when the planet began to heal." And, now he says this: He failed as president because he is incompetent, dishonest and not interested in the actual work of governing. His statist policies helped consign millions of Americans to a lower standard of living and his odious class warfare further divided the nation. He had no intention of uniting the country — it was his Big Lie. There is so much more in this piece, it's worth a full read.

159 I remember it well. Had just bought a house on the south shore of MA. The house was about 100 feet from the seawall on Plymouth Bay.

At a full moon tide under normal circumstances the water would just touch the base of the seawall that is about 12 feet high. During the storm the bay came over the wall by about 2 feet and we were a good 1000 miles from the storm.

Anyone who thinks this is a joke is in for a very bad surprise.

I'm prior Navy, so I've heard of doing that although mostly with larger vessels. I wouldn't want to leave a historical wooden boat tied up to a solid object like a pier during a hurricane, myself. The planning was poor, though - they should've been much further away than that.

200 130 Has anyone in here ran a marathon before...cause I ran the MCM yesterday and it feels like someone beat both my legs with a baseball bat today. Wow, that is awesome! Congratulations! MCM is such a cool race, Marines everywhere doing packet pick up, banning water stations, etc. Hubby and I did it in 2008. The good news: you ran 26.2 miles--such an empowering thing! The bad news, you will be sore for the next several days, and it will be difficult to go down stairs frontwards. Even sitting on the toilet will hurt! So bask in your greatness, replace fluids and electrolytes (magnesium and potassium, especially: I use electrolyte supplements pre-race, during and post, either Sports Legs or Endurolytes), carb up and eat some good protein (to rebuild glycogen and repair micro muscle tears). Compression garments work wonders for recovery too (TED stockings, or long compression sox or calf sleeves). Ice bath afterwards would have been beneficial, can still help today). Again, congratulations, that is awesome!

Yet Democrats say the question is irrelevant since their ability to generate turnout is so expert and so superior to that of the Republicans they believe there is little doubt that once again the number of their voters will outnumber those of the GOP. To that end, journalists have been citing the fact that there are far more Obama campaign offices in states like Ohio than those working for Romney. Commentary Mag. Link in name.

240 ORLANDO, Florida - President Barack Obama scrapped his planned campaign appearance here with Bill Clinton on Monday and planned to return to Washington to oversee the response to deadly Hurricane Sandy.

"Due to deteriorating weather conditions in the Washington area, the President will not attend today's campaign event in Orlando," White House press secretary Jay Carney told reporters. "The President will return to the White House to monitor the preparations for and early response to Hurricane Sandy."

Are we to believe that Prezzy Me First is going to DC to monitor events? Or maybe he thinks campaigning in Florida is a waste of time

No, we're supposed to believe it would be a political blood-bath if he failed to go back.  One thing the MFM has been good at is convincing people that the executive (be he President, Governor, or Mayor) can't possibly stay up-to-date and coordinate things if he's not physically present.

Personally, I think it's hokum.  But, in this case, it's a good thing.  Basically it means that for the next couple of days, TFG can't campaign much.  Romney can't either ("politicizing the storm" or whatever) but he'll have freer hands than the SCOAMT.

Incompetence and stupidity are teh watchwords for this administration.   You'd think     before he jetted off to FLA that    one of Obama's handlers might have said,    "Um, Mr. President?  The entire eastern seaboard, from    the     Carolinas     up through New England, is looking at a potentially cataclysmic weather event    that could    wreak havoc and devastation across    some of the most vital economic centers in the country, not to mention    the most heavily populated ones.    New York City could find itself literally    underwater.       The National Weather Service    actually started making impassioned, emotional pleas for individuals to evacuate their homes last night;  when's the last time the NWS did that?    I'm    not trying to question your judgement, but it might     look bad for the sitting    President to be campaigning for re-election when a sizable chunk of the electorate is facing a     treacherous    weather pattern    that's been lovingly dubbed    The Frankenstorm."

Not that I'm defending the stupidly over-the-top coverage, but the east coast       is    very densely populated.     While I have    absolutely no doubt   that self-absorbed self-interest and political     bent are a major factor in the    MFM's    overblown coverage    of any serious weather event on the east coast,      you also have to take into account that a serious blow to any of the major population centers of the east coast is going to have a very negative impact        not only locally, but nationally and even internationally.

325 So that WaPo poll that gave Romney a 1 point edge (49-4 ...

Moved from D+4 on Friday, to D+6 on Saturday, to D+7 on Sunday. Romney up 15 w/ indies.

I don't know which is funnier, that a national poll that under-samples Republicans by a mere 10 points still has Romney up, or that even with such gross oversampling of Democrats Obarry still can't hit fiddy%.

326 Today's Battleground Poll has Romney up 52/47 but the best part is the analysis, which shows Obama is unlikely to make up the deficit. Can't wait to see Ras and Gallup as the week progresses. I'm starting to think the OH polls showing a dead heat are primarily a matter of assumptions built into the structure rather than a reflection of actual voter sentiments - see the latest ABC poll for similar obfuscation.

R+2.54% - Average using the D+3 turnout model
R+4.78% - Average using the 2010 turnout model
R+4.81% - Average using the 2004 turnout model
R+6.56% - Average using the Rasmussen Party ID turnout model

You know,      the    thing that really bothered me about that Joe Biden quote,   besides the     obvious     fact that it was grossly inappropriate     for the situation and unbecoming of a Vice President, was that it was such a gross devaluation of Tyrone Woods'    testicular fortitude.   That young man held off legions of ululating      jihadi bastards for SEVEN HOURS with a single machine gun    in enemy territory with no     sign of rescue.    Forget balls the    size of cue    balls;   balls the size of CONTINENTS is more appropriate.

398 "Nearly one-in-three Ohio voters (32%) have already cast their ballots. Obama leads 62% to 36% among these voters. Among all Ohio voters, Romney now has a 12-point lead over the president in voter trust – 53% to 41% - when it comes to the economy. Last week, he had just a seven-point advantage among voters in the state when they were asked which candidate they trusted more to deal with the economy. The Republican challenger now is also trusted more – 52% to 42% - when it comes to dealing with national security. That’s an area in which the president was ahead by five points a week ago. Romney’s also trusted more by eight points in the areas of job creation and energy policy but leads Obama by just two when it comes to housing issues."

Over under on how many days it will take the police to find MWR's body?

Keed!

But seriously, it's entirely possible to go off an   embankment here in NH and disappear into the brush, never to be seen again.

Or     rather,   never to be seen again until a moose steps on you.

Speaking of which, a moose tried to step over my boss' car last week, and stepped right through her roof.   Let that be a lesson to all ye who own Mazdas.

Don't take the back roads, stay on the more populated and more travelled highway. That way if you run into trouble, there will be people around to help you. If you are stuck somewhere alone, then you run the risk of not being able to find/get help.

Good point.   That's probably what I'll do.

Sorry for the delay.  Here we go -

Bette Davis.  Outside of Hollywood, you either loved her or loathed her.

Inside Hollywood, you loved her enough to fuck her, but you still loathed her.  Living like a man (which meant taking what and who she needed, insisting on getting laid every other day or sheÂ’d turn into the bitch from hell) she boasted that she went through four husbands and “none of them had the balls to be Mr. Bette Davis.”  As the saying goes, she ground her husbands into dust; with #2, Arthur Farnsworth, she did more than just grind.

The two met in 1939, after Davis had been put on suspension by Jack Warner.  She had just come off a grueling schedule of five movies in eighteen months and wanted time off.  Warner said no.  Bette said “fuck you” and ran off to hide at PeckettÂ’s Inn in Sugar Hill, New Hampshire (sadly, it no longer exists, having burned down in the 1950s).  There she met the hotelÂ’s night manager and resident gigolo, Arthur Farnsworth, a handsome six-foot stud whose bedroom skills impressed even the multi-talented Davis.

Extending her few-weeksÂ’ stay into two months, Davis dumped actor George Brett (after having said for ten years she loved him) and Farnsworth, for his part, initiated divorce proceedings against his wife, ignoring warnings from DavisÂ’ family and friends that he should not, in no uncertain terms, ever marry the volatile actress.

Once back in Hollywood with the afterglow of her Farnsworth-provided orgasms, Davis herself had second thoughts.  She admitted she didnÂ’t love “Farney;” all they had going for them was that they both loved New England and Farney was one of the very few men sheÂ’d ever met who wasnÂ’t intimidated by her, her stardom or her salary.  So they finally married on December 31, 1941.

A week later, Davis began shooting The Bride Came C.O.D. while Farney went back to New Hampshire to remodel Butternut, the estate sheÂ’d bought in between bouts of bed wrestling.

The marriage glided along for a while, but soon the differing temperaments of Farnsworth and Davis made life hell.  Both of them were massive drinkers, but while Farnsworth, when drunk, retreated into passivity, Davis would bitch, pick fights, and harass him until he would finally let go and beat the hell out of her.  At last, the inevitable result of nonstop boozing occurred – Farney could no longer get it up for Bette.

But in the summer of 1943 (and, coincidentally, after being turned down by director Victor Sherman when she offered to treat him to a sex-drenched vacation in Mexico), Davis decided to try to patch up her marriage.  And hereÂ’s where things get cloudy. . .

One day in June of 1943, Davis later said, they were sitting in the loft at Butternut when the telephone rang.  Farney went to answer it, slipped down the stairs and whacked his head against the floor.  For a few days, Farney seemed weak and dizzy on his feet, but by August, when they took a train back to LA, he appeared to be back in the pink. Of course, on the train (naturally), they got into a fight.  Davis, avoiding one of FarneyÂ’s punches, watched as he lost his balance, fell and once again whacked his head on the floor.

But he still seemed OK.  Until, shortly thereafter, when walking past a tobacco shop in Hollywood Boulevard, Farney suddenly stiffened, threw his hands to his head, cried in pain and collapsed to the pavement, once again whacking his head – this time, hard enough to cause blood to pour out of his nose and ears.  At the hospital, x-rays revealed Farnsworth had fractured his skull, and he died two days later.

The death certificate listed the cause of demise as a basal skull fracture due to FarneyÂ’s cracking his head on the Boulevard.  All would have been fine, except that his mother demanded an autopsy.  Between his drinking and fighting with Davis, Farnsworth had been helping the war effort with top-secret assignments with Honeywell and Disney; mommy thought he might have been assassinated by a sneaky Jap or snarling Kraut.  The LA coronerÂ’s office went to work, and what they discovered was a lulu.  The press was told that FarneyÂ’s skull fracture was what caused him to fall in the first place, and that it could have happened no more than two weeks before his death.  In other words – Davis had given old Farney one whack on the head too many.

A grim Jack Warner went into full damage control after that.  The studio coffers were opened, threats made and promises offered.  The coronerÂ’s inquest was obviously rigged, designed to force the jury to conclude that FarnsworthÂ’s collapse in August was due to his Dick Van Dykeing down the stairs in June*.  They did, but Hollywood gossip knew the real story – Davis had killed him and Warner Brothers had no choice but to protect their biggest star and cover the whole thing up.

Gossip, you may snort, and you may well be right.  But let me give you two little nuggets that, I think, cast doubt on the “official” story:

The first comes from DavisÂ’ third husband, Bill Sherry.  In 1946, the two were walking down Hollywood Boulevard when Davis suddenly stopped and began shaking uncontrollably.  “WhatÂ’s wrong?” Sherry asked.

Davis pointed to the ground.  “ThatÂ’s where I pushed Farney,” she choked.  “I thought he was drunk, so I pushed him and. . .and he fell and hit his head on the curb.”

And the second?  Well, let me quote writer / artist Kevin Scrantz, whose blog “Claroscureaux” is where I got most of this story:

Perhaps the most credible evidence of all for a cover-up of FarneyÂ’s death is from the studioÂ’s own legal files on Davis, available for viewing at the University of Southern California.  While the first three years of the 1940s overflow with paperwork detailing the actressÂ’s minute day to day career dealings, the three months between August and November, 1943 –

are gone.

*A few months after his death, Davis learned that Farney had, between June and August, been caught in bed with a married woman, whose husband clocked him with a lamp.  So old Paper Skull had been conked on the head four times in two months!

Hope you all have a wonderful day.
