— Gabriel Malor Happy Friday.
REMINDER: the September jobs report will be out this morning from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Most are saying there will be no change in the unemployment rate.
Investigators are looking into whether the shooting of two Border Patrol agents on Tuesday was the result of friendly fire. Agent Nicholas Ivie was killed; another agent was wounded.
Former NBA player and CBS basketball analyst Greg Anthony has recorded a TV ad for Mitt Romney to air in Nevada. It's another one of the "it's okay to vote against Obama" ads.
UBL TV movie will air the weekend before the election.
A Democratic candidate for Maine's state senate is getting slammed in a mailer sent by the Maine GOP for leading a "bizarre double life." She plays World of Warcraft. I don't know how PR savvy this Democrat is (as a rule, state legislators aren't the brightest bulbs in the sky), but she could probably play this into a ton of donations from WoW gamers. It's what I'd do if I ever got hit for leading a "bizarre quadruple life" in Guild Wars 2, as I tend to do...
Democrats are hyperventilating that Romney surrogate Gov. Sununu said Obama was lazy for not properly preparing for the debate. I rather like Byron Tau's summation here, though: "Obama and his staff spent a good deal of time participating in the usual Beltway media game of lowering expectations — emphasizing how little preparation Obama was doing and how he spent last Sunday watching football." In other words, Obama was asking for it.

So the black holes outnumber the assholes, but not by a large margin.
btw, one conspiracy theory can now be laid to rest -- TFG did not receive an advance notice of the questions to be asked in the debate; either that, or his suckitude exceeds even my generous estimation.

Boardwalk Empire
This riveting and wide-reaching history, which inspired the hit television series of the same name, explores the sordid past of Atlantic City: a freewheeling place long dedicated to the fast buck. The book ranges from the city's Prohibition-era heyday to its rebirth as the legitimate casino destination it is today.
And thatÂ’s it for today.

Even if the Zero had been given advance questions, the way Lehrer let the debate flow would have made it hard for a gifted teleprompter orator to respond quickly without waiting for a new script to appear.
Obviously Romney paid off Lehrer so that Obama would have to face actual facts about his record and be given time and opportunity to present a reasoned response.

Friday at last. Thanks for the news, Gabe and Vic.
Today I have two stories, both rather blue – so send the rugrat Morons off to watch Spongebob or an Obama press conference and let them rot their minds for a few minutes.
The first story concerns Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., son of the legendary silent film swashbuckler. He had a short career in films, both before and after World War II, but was much more at ease as a society jet-setter, his breeding, background and impeccable manners making him welcome in some of the grandest of English homes.
Fairbanks was catnip to a certain type of woman, and his name was linked quietly with a number of titled ladies. One of these was Margaret Whigham, the beautiful Duchess of Argyll. Married in 1933 to amateur golfer Charles Sweeney, after a fall down an elevator shaft in 1943, she suffered extensive nerve damage, not only losing all sense of taste and smell, but also becoming a sexually insatiable bed-hopper. Naturally, this change in behavior led to affairs, then divorce, and then, in 1951, marriage to the Duke of Argyll.
This second marriage, however, didn’t scratch the Duchess’ lusty itch. In 1963, the Duke began divorce proceedings against her, claiming she had slept with more than 80 men (the Duke presented a list of them in court; never made entirely public, it was said to include two government ministers and three members of the royal family). The most salacious piece of evidence, however, was a set of photographs of the Duchess – naked except for her signature three-strand pearl necklace – giving someone an enthusiastic BJ. I say “someone,” because the man was seen only from the neck down.
The man, as it turned out, was Fairbanks, although, for the sake of his marriage and reputation, he denied any physical congress with Her Ladyship.
Now, after all that, I can hear you ask, “where’s the picture?”
Sorry, Charlie. Despite my searching – and my collection of Hollywood scandal – I can’t find it. But perhaps your google-fu is better than mine. So go for it.
The second story is quick and dirty. WeÂ’re all (I hope!) familiar with the luscious Betty Grable, whose pin-up pose kept a lot of fighting men hard through the dark days of the war. This is, again, one of those rumors that never seems to have the same participants twice, and in fact, it seems impossibly silly. But here it is:
While she didn’t have “Sealy” tattooed on her ass like Grace Kelly, Grable enjoyed her share of men. A few days after one hot and heavy bed session, it’s said, Grable noticed that her usual routine of shower, soap and douche wasn’t cutting it; there was a very distinct and nasty smell wafting up from her vajayjay. Her lovers refused to go down on her, so Grable hit the bathroom again and again, but hotter showers, more soap and stronger douches didn’t help.
Finally, she went to a gynecologist, explaining her problem and asking if she might have caught some new strain of VD. The doctor strapped on a mask and went below decks. After fiddling inside the star for a few minutes, it is said, he surfaced with an old condom between his fingers; one that had, somehow, lodged itself in a far corner of GrableÂ’s honeypot.
And that cured the smell.
IÂ’ll be away on vacation next week, so there wonÂ’t be any Hollywood stories until the 15th. I hope you all stay happy and healthy and that you all have a wonderful day.
Thanks for keeping me sane, friends in a box. Take care.

How can they continue day after day supporting the lying, racist white bastard liberals of the Democrat party?

That's always step one of their defense. I'm not sure how many they've got, because Republicans never push the issue far enough, but here's how it always goes:
REP: "We're going to cut funding for CPB."
PBS: "If you do that, we'll have to kill Big Bird and Elmo."
REP: "Yes. And?"
PBS: "Well we don't get that much funding from the government anyway!"
So look for that one pretty soon. I saw some people trying to preempt it yesterday, but we'll see.
Of course, the way that exchange should finish is:
REP: "Oh, well, then, you won't mind when we cut the funding. Thanks!" <Cuts funding>
PBS: <Wailing. Gnashing of teeth.>
LIBS: <Crying. Lamentations of women>

Who is airing the movie? I think a letter-righting campaign should be undertaken immediately to encourage them not to air the movie, because it would inflame the tensions in the Middle East, putting our Men and Women in even more danger.
Of course it wouldn't work. And that's part of the point.

"Ofer Gutman, head of the Oranim program, which is partly-sponsored by the Israeli government declining to give the attacker's name. 'He was a normal guy. There was nothing that indicated what would happen in the end." A witness Michal Bouaron said, 'Everyone left here happy, clapping. There was a lot of tension. Life goes on. We won't let this ruin our day and our vacation.'" -- Kerry McQueeney, Mail Online, 5Oct'12
No indication in advance, just a normal guy, so no names. Applause. No excuse for pulling a gun and shooting. Especially while we're on vacation.
"Forget about it." The Middle Eastern reality takes the Mafioso attitude to a whole 'nutha level.
What the hell was the argument about. Witnesses were there, heard it all. Was the American being exploited, extorted, threatened, feeling he had no recourse, "they were all against him, no way out"? What all is involved in the Oranim program? Recruiting low key intelligence operatives? Given the MSM and "translation" of events for public consumption, I'd expect some element of fabrication; perhaps a story about drugs, a lovers quarrel, or worse, that the American had a hidden terrorist agenda. As if the Oranim program wouldn't have conducted extreme research on those whom they accepted. But really, why the hell would a NY "normal guy" Jew, typically a liberal finding guns abhorrent, go to Israel to train in international hospitality, go ballistic and get himself killed by police? Nothing to see here. Move along.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but poor rural areas don't swing elections. See also: Pennsylvania, Nevada.
People from poor rural areas (where I have my roots) are, or at least think they are, more or less immune to the vagaries of the economy- they're never going to have much, but they'll seldom lose it all, either. So, yes, they're easily swayed by economic numbers, because they assume that their situations are not normal.
People in urban centers (poor or wealthy) however, are not immune to the economy's oscillations. They see these numbers and have to be at least a little dubious of them.
To be clear: I think people will believe them, I just don't think they'll be swayed by them. One of two things will happen- they'll think, "That's BS, I'm voting Romney and hoping he can actually get this turned around," or they'll think, "That's great! The economy is finally coming back!"
The later group will jump back into the labor force, but won't be able to find jobs. They'll sour on those numbers pretty quickly, as a rule.
