— Gabriel Malor Happy Wednesday.
I'm already sick of hearing that the Generals scandal is a "distraction" cooked up by Democrats or the media to keep people from thinking about Benghazi. As I explained yesterday on Twitter, we shouldn't just ignore security breaches because we wanted Obama to look bad at Benghazi hearings. Daniel Drezner had more on that:
So unlike, say, questions about drone warfare or counterterrorism policy or homeland security or civil liberties, Americans will pay attention to this stuff. Which is interesting, because over the past decade the military has been the one institution to inspire significant amounts of trust in Americans. The less that the public trusts the military, the less that they will trust what the military is doing.
Also, Marc Ambinder has a must-read post over at the Week about what the Generals scandal has revealed about FBI investigations in general.
USA Today has a long, but quality discussion of the fiscal cliff, including the three scenarios for how this will shake out.

Freedom from Fear
The ninth volume of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Oxford History of the United States series examines the years 1929 through 1945 when the American people faced the Great Depression and World War II. Historian David Kennedy vividly shows how Americans endured, and eventually prevailed, in the face of these unprecedented calamities.
(Note: From what I understand this is just a history of the FDR administration. Like most histories it considers that FDR saved us which is bull shit. Read the forgotten man instead. I am waiting for that to go on the daily deal.)
And that's it

I was just going to mention something about that. Isn't there some sort of automatic mechanism in place for recounts when the race is decided by around 1 percent? I keep thinking four lousy states and 407,000 votes.
Not that I think you can 'undo' a concession, but
1. It would shut up the 'mandate' talk
2. Shut up the RINO's who want amnesty
3. Quiet the lefties who want more free stuff
4. Prove that Obama actually lost the EC
I guess it really isn't over until the Electoral College votes, though.

This would lure small business owners over to our side, make it easier for a lot of them to stay in business by reducing their taxes, and we could use it as a wedge to show we are the real protectors of the "Little guy." By asking why people should pay more than businesses, and demand that individual tax rates be the same, or lower than, small business rates.
And then we could campaign to make that the tax rate for all businesses.
Kind of a judo approach: lower rates for businesses to keep jobs, then lower people's rates to match, then lower big business rates to match everyone else's. Start with something defensible. Use a single mom owner of a dog-walking business or a gay hipster cake baker or the proud black owner of a barbecue stand as the face of the initial campaign.
And paint any lefties that try to argue against it as sexist, misogynist, racist, homophobes.
Fuck the left. Time to use their tactics against them.

A lot of the Morons here say that it will make things worse. But all of the initial conventions allowed each State ONE vote on matters. There are a LOT more red States than there are blue States so we should be able to restore some sanity or if not agree to split up
A constitutional convention can do that peacefully w/o a war between the States.

I believe it came up (that's what she said). I didn't say it because it was too obvious, and frankly we're not really talking about heroes.
The thing is, and this needs to be said over and over and over, Generals are politicians first and foremost. This is Obama's purge of the Generals put there by Bush. He'll have his own set of loyals ready and waiting to take their place.
Sad but true.
Also sadly, I would assume the untold story is Generals are often, if not always, surrounded by boinkable help of one sort or another. So to take one down this way is to play "gotcha" with a ploy of pretending this is new or different. It's not.

The fact that socialite Jill KelleyÂ’s maiden name is Khawam and that she was born in Lebanon to Maronite Christian parents should raise eyebrows a bit. The fact that she and her husband were willing to go into debt to throw lavish parties for high level officers who are involved in the Middle East should make even the most resolute anti-CTers among us pause. The further fact that she is identified as an unofficial liaison between top American Generals and unspecified Middle Eastern contacts, wellÂ…[Emphasis added]

Good morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes, and thanks for the news, Gabe and Vic. Since Turner Classic Movies is showing The Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep tonight, I thought I’d talk about Humphrey Bogart today.
Bogie (incidentally, he didn’t like the nickname) treated acting much as his drinking buddy Spencer Tracy did – not something a real man ought to be doing. This underlying contempt for his work contributed to his natural tendency to drink and a rather low self-esteem didn’t help his sobriety, especially towards the end of his life when he realized that Frank Sinatra – a founding member of Bogie’s Holmby Hills Rat Pack – was providing Lauren Bacall the physical satisfaction Bogart himself could not.
During the filming of Sabrina in 1954, Bogart was unhappy with the movie, not liking co-star Audrey Hepburn, hating the fact that he was not director Billy WilderÂ’s first choice for the role of Linus Larrabee and convinced he was totally wrong for the sort of comedy-romance film Sabrina was designed to be. To add to his anger, Hepburn and Holden embarked on a torrid affair, which for some reason made Bogie incredibly jealous, and he treated Hepburn horribly. "I wish Cary Grant, who was the first choice for Bogie's role, had accepted," Holden later recalled. "He was a pain in the ass and incredibly hostile." Wilder had lost relatives during the Holocaust, but Bogart called him "Kraut bastard" and "Nazi." In front of the cast, Bogart ridiculed Hepburn and did devastating impressions of her.
Director Vincent Sherman, who directed Bogie in Crime School (193
, The Return of Doctor X (1939) and All Through the Night (1942), had this to say about him: "When I directed Bogie, I never knew if he'd show up beaten, stabbed or bloody. He was married to this vixen named Mayo Methot, and they were known as the Battling Bogarts.
'She showed up on the Dr. X set one day looking for her man, rightly suspecting he was having an affair with the script girl. I was ahead of her. I sent Bogie to my studio office to fuck the girl, because the first place Methot looked was Bogie's dressing room.
'To get one up on Bogie, who thought he was so damn smart, I came up with an idea. Since she couldn't find her straying husband, I invited the bitch for a drink. Before the night ended, I screwed this hot-to-trot harridan and Bogie was none the wiser. He showed up the next day looking like the cat who swallowed the canary. But I was the one who got his whore. I went back to directing him in his cornball role in this hokey picture and no on was ever the wiser. What he didn't realize was that Mayo was getting as much on the side as he was."
And if you wonder whether all those passionate looks between Bogie and Bergman in Casablanca were just bits of acting, well Sherman can set you straight on that, too:
"Forget all those stupid biographies that claimed Bergman and Bogie didn't have an affair. He fucked her all during the making of Casablanca and fell madly in love with her. In spite of that saintly look, that cold Swede was hot-to-trot once you got her pants off. Alfred Hitchcock told me she'd do it with doorknobs."
Well, that was pretty mean, wasnÂ’t it? So hereÂ’s a nicer story with Bogart, again during Casablanca:
Scenes for the movie were shot on a day-to-day basis, and there never was a complete shooting script until the final wrap. No one, not even director Michael Curtiz, knew whether Bergman would end up with Bogart or Paul Henreid. One morning, after reading a few pages of script that were fresh off the typewriter, Curtiz told Bogart, “You’ve got an easy day today. Go on that balcony, look down and to the right and nod. Then you can go home.”
“What am I nodding at?” Bogart asked. “What’s my attitude?”
“Don’t ask so many questions,” Curtiz snapped. “Get up there. Nod. Go home.”
So Bogie did. It wasn’t until he saw the movie at its premiere that he realized his nod was the trigger for the famous “Marseillaise” scene, where the Rick’s Café nightclub orchestra drowns out a table of Germans singing “Die Wacht am Rhein.”
Hope you all have a wonderful day.
*If you feel like starting the morning off as depressed as I am, Holden also included Lucille Ball, Susan Hayward, Grace Kelly, Dorothy Lamour, Shelley Winters, Capucine, Barbara Stanwyck and Jackie Kennedy within a long list of bedtime playmates.

A good question, Vic, and one that I can't answer with any huge degree of confidence. In the above Bogie stories, for example, the Holden / Hepburn affair and Holden's belt notches are true. As far as Bogie and Bergman having an affair, that is true. Sherman's reminiscences. . .perhaps. I try to make sure everything I say is backed up, but sometimes (especially when it comes to sex), there's really no way to make sure. Caveat emptor, as in everything else.

We could actually enforce the laws against vote fraud, JJ, but I suspect the Republican Elites and their mouthpieces in the so-called conservative media would find that simply too difficult a task. It would cut into their blogging time, maybe.
I'm not saying it would be easy. But there is a chance that uncovering enough of the kind of fraud Choom Boy's co-defendants engaged in would eventually resonate with some of the average no-information voters.
Thanks to computerized voting and a large team of thugs around the country, the America-hating fuckwits will always be able to wipe out more votes than conservatives can come up with. Unless, that is, we dress some of the major perps in orange jumpsuits.

Yeah, me, too.
Actually, I still think it could happen, but popular sentiment needs to move that way. Right now, we're at somewhere over 80,000 signatures. In a state with (IIRC) approximately 24,000,000 legal residents (which, obviously, doesn't count the illegals, but they don't count anyway). That's simply not enough support.
On the other hand, I think things will move that way pretty quickly once ObamaCare kicks in. Even more so if people start realizing we're already paying to bail out California.
Posted by: AllenG (Dedicated Tenther) Channelling Breitbart at November 14, 2012 03:55 AM (8y9MW)
I repeat, the problem with vote fraud is that the majority of it occurs in blue States in heavy blue minority controlled urban areas. The people responsible for finding it and prosecuting it are the ones doing it.
There is very little a Republican can do. But vote fraud did not cost us this election. The election still goes by State, not popular vote. We would not have won these blue States anyway and the amount of fraud is usually very low.
However, that only applies to Presidential elections. It makes a big difference for State elections like Senator Al Fruckin.

Well, yes. There are a couple hundred thousand secessionists across the country. If they all moved to Texas, we could force the issue.
That has its own down-sides, though.
My biggest problem is that it is very hard to be sure how sane secessionists are. You need to want to seceded for the right reasons. Because you're upset about the election is not, itself, enough. The weirdo "Republic of Texas" folks who've been kicking around since at least the late 80s are kooks, too (well, most of them).
On the other hand, if the election is simply the straw that broke the camel's back, I might agree with you. If you think the US has already abandoned the Constitution and you want to restore something that resembles that original document, I probably agree with you.
Also, if you think we can "lock down the border" of Texas when we attempt to secede, you're insane. I'll gladly use you as canon fodder, but I don't actually want you on my team. (Yes, I head this viewpoint today. I think it was satire to make the secession movement look as bad as possible, but I'm not sure).

I thought Dorothy Lamour was supposed to be a good girl. Disappointing if true.
Lamour was a good girl, at least by Hollywood standards. I suspect her affair with Holden was during the filming of 1942's The Fleet's In, when she was between husband 1, Herbie Kay (from 1935-39) and husband 2, Bill Howard (1943-7
.
Is Holden still alive?
Sadly, no. Holden died in 1981, after slipping on a rug and cracking his head against a bedside table.

Yeah, I agree with you. I'm on the fence about secession, but I'm on the fence from a practical standpoint. I've probably thought about it more than is healthy for me, and there are all kinds of practical concerns that many people forget about.
Most of those go away if the Texas Legislature says, "We want to withdraw" and the Federal Government says, "OK." Then it's just a matter of negotiation and treaties.
If shots are fired, though, things get very sticky very quickly. Not just because of the violence itself, but there are commercial concerns as well.
Consider this: Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopter, and a variety of other defense contractors have facilities in Texas. But what is the likelihood they could keep their US defense contracts (which, in the short term, would probably be more lucrative than contracts with Texas) if they also supplied arms to Texas? And if they then chose to shut down those plants and move operations out of the State, what would Texas do? Nationalize those plants? Force the workers to continue building?
Banks. Now, Texas has a high number of "State Banks" but even those are tied very tightly to the National Government. Given they expressly cannot operate outside the State of Texas, that should be Unconstitutional, but that cow is already out of the barn. Banks LIVE off money from the Fed. They routinely take loans from the Fed, and they rarely carry enough currency (which probably wouldn't be useful in Texas anyway) to last more than a few days.
I could go on, but you begin to see the problems, I think. Now, there are solutions to these problems, but the very nature of those solutions requires that you not broadcast that you're pursuing them, which makes it very hard for supporters of the movement to know they're being done.

Yup.
All valid concerns. Essentially what has to happen is we have to start deciding how serious we are and I am not the guy to be a big wheel in anything for a slew of reasons. Texas with enough allied states in a new federation has enough economic power to say "we are serious and we will make it stick" and maybe snipe off some businesses that are pissed at EPA and the Happiness KGB in DC.

Paul Krguman's arm is up Obama's ass.
from Investors...
"If President Obama wants to get a deficit deal done to avoid the fiscal cliff, his biggest challenge wonÂ’t be Republicans, but his own hard-core left-wing supporters.
Two days after the election, Obama’s favorite economist, Paul Krugman, set the tone for the intransigent left in a column titled: “Let’s not make a deal.” Boiled down, his advice to Obama was this: Don’t give in to any Republican demands, even if doing so would “inflict damage on a still-shaky economy.” After all, Obama would be better positioned to “weather any blowback from economic troubles.”
KrugmanÂ’s advice may be disturbingly cold and calculating, but he has plenty of company on the left.
Robert Kuttner, co-founder of the liberal American Prospect magazine, suggests Obama should just sit it out, let all the Bush tax cuts expire, the automatic spending cuts kick in and expect public pressure to force Republicans to give in entirely.
The left-wing Daily Kos called any kind of “grand bargain” between Obama and the GOP a “Great Betrayal.”
And several Democratic lawmakers have suggested that the correct approach would be to let the country go over the fiscal cliff, since that will only strengthen ObamaÂ’s position."

Don't know which will come first: the CC Vic advocates or large numbers of citizens re-reading the Declaration of Independence and choosing its remedies for tyranny.

2) The left has decided to use the extralegal regulatory fiat regimes Nixon put in place to wage economic war for specious gains in their borderline religion's service. This game of theirs is increasing the number of indentured poor in this nation turning the red purple from fear.
3) they want to import voters from foeign lands with NO love of our system to wreck our system once and for all.

The American people shrugged about our military.

I don't know if Beck covered his timeline info on the radio yesterday, but on the TV show last night he had info that the CIA knew about Petraeus's extracurricular activities in MAY. They just played along till they needed leverage. And that dolt Clapper had the sitdown with Petraeus telling him that a teaching job at Princeton was going to be his golden parachute for clamming up and going away. You know, Princeton, home (I think) of intellectual giants Van Jones and Cornell "Grady" West.

Better yet, it is time to work on taking over Dem-controlled state legislatures and governorships. Thirty governorships are now in Republican hands and that's a good start. Between now and 2014, the state races will be where the action is. And a united front by the country's governors will be a powerful counterpoint to the current and accelerating federal overreach.

That right there is also why the takers presume that the makers will always be available to pay for their stuff. For the most part, we continue to slog on because that's what you do.
Ive actually run headfirst into this at church, of all places. I was asked a couple years ago to help out with running audio/video for church on Sundays. Yes, we're one of those evil places that has guitars and drums, so sound is more than just wiring up the preacher. We also have to large projectors at the front where all the words for songs are displayed and the preacher's sermon points go and videos are shown. Well, we are now in a position where only a couple people are even capable of running a Sunday morning if everything was already created and ready to go. Actually create the slides, backgrounds, etc for a new song or that day's sermon? Maybe, maybe one person can do that with any sort of success. And he's the worship pastor. Kinda busy.
So, I'm never allowed to be sick or miss church. About the only time I do miss is around Christmas when we go spend time with my wife's family. And every time I do miss a Sunday or two, I get hugs and "Oh thank God you're back! It was a disaster!"

How to trim the $16.2 Trillion dollar debt? Really? That isn't in the cards folks. The debt "ceiling" is sure to rise to over $18 trillion soon. Do you expect Obamao and his friends to not borrow and spend it? By the time he is done US debt will have risen to over $20 trillion, my guess is $24 if you don't hit the hard landing before then. For those who still can't fathom what a trillion is, you will collectively be on the hook for more than 20 million million. That will be more than a doubling in just eight years. Each and every American will owe well over $55,000 to someone, thanks to progressive policies, and that is just Federal debt. I believe Californians can add more than $10 grand to that total. There will be no soft or safe landing when those bills come due, and they will. You are a bankrupt nation; monetarily, spiritually, and intellectually. Those are the chickens that are coming home to roost.
Sadly, as a Canadian we too are in a similar boat. However our current PM has been chipping away at the stupidity and we're hoping to keep it that way. Still, you are our largest trading partner and when your economy tanks ours will suffer as well.

Yet you all laugh and titter at the echo chamber of HuffPo and KOs.
Popcorn's only crime was disdain of the obvious but in a way, I can see why they said it because some here seem to be discussing seriously actions that will never happen and can never happen under the conditions that apply at this time.
the number one condition which no one has yet to come up with an answer to is what to do about the Mass Media and it's almost lemming like responses to any crisis or negative occurrence that might adversely affect Democrats and/or TFG?
Until that simple fact of reality is addressed and resolved and enough get on board with the solution to make it work, any actions by R's will be met with more of the same of the last 4 years.
Sadly, I have no simple answer and apparently no one else does either. Perhaps if Andrew was still alive he would've found it. His websites are now more and more formulaic replicas of other conservative sites with more concern over moderating their comments than assaulting the bastions of liberalism in the press.
We don't need more sites telling us how bad things suck. We need sites and people to think of ways to counter act the press and Academe. (another of the legs of the tripod propping up liberalism)

Hint: While the right was sleeping... Lefties have infiltrated and purged the intelligence commnity, and its leadership has been replaced by left wingers. This has also happened at the DHS, the TSA and other LEOs. Now, the military is also being quietly purged.

Markon I have a proposition for you.
Ruminate on whether or not Canada would be well served throwing open her borders to Americans who are willing to work, and sign a pledge not to get a dime of services you are used to for a decade.
Your nation has an amazing amount of wealth, and not enough Anglics willing to throw themselves at it and endure whatever is needed to meet your national goals.
I want to live right and lean keep a fair share of what I earn and not be asked to carry the slothful in my rucksack.
I think an American secession and Canadian/New America union or confederation is the way out of the debt bomb.
The resources and drive are there in a lot of folk, but what is missing is the permission and political will to work our way out of this clusterfuck.
I will embrace any Canadian who gets it as an intellectual and spiritual brother.
I love Locke, I hate Marx and I love work have we of the Anglosphere fallen so hard we cannot use each other in that way?

In NC, we elected a Republican governor for only the third time since Reconstruction. McCrory won with 55% of the vote (Romney beat Obama with just over 50%). That's a LOT of Dems crossing over to vote for a Republican. There is hope. When the GOP nominates a conservative, pro-private sector candidate, we win. The Republicans also control the NCstate house and state senate.
We will win more governorships and state legislative chambers. The revolt against the Left will have its greatest impact starting at the state level. When the majority of states are Texas, then we'll see what happens.

Glenn Beck was on this yesterday, except he was the one asking how wise it was to put your name on a petition. Seriously? I thought he was all about charging into battle, damn the torpedoes. And I agree that one reason we lost is that everyone (including myself) has been afraid to reveal themselves. And look where it's gotten us.

NC went way left for a good long time before it went right.
NC is actually part of why I distrust the blue so much.
Ask Vic about yankee locusts and changes to the ideals of your home based on then fleeing the rewards of their work and eating your corn.
We can't have a nation when the Blue wants to destroy the red not beat them.
I want to treat Schumer like a communist because he is one.
That means something and I am tired of fighting that instinct.

The Republican Party needs serious reform if it is to be competitive in the 2014 federal election cycle. We need closed primaries and an effective GOTV program. The Republican wing of the Political Class will fight reform tooth and nail (and with hefty checkbooks). If the Establishment is unwilling to reform, then conservatives must defend themselves by giving serious thought to a third party alternative. It is the primary system that is hurting our chances for electoral victory.

I'm not sure that's true anymore.
if we are empowering barack T Ogabe because of conservative voters and Americans shitting themselves in a rage over GOP corruption by either going blue(they are worse) or sitting out we're fucked anyway.

I am serious in saying perhaps those of us here who can spare the money may well want to help concentrate the red.
Time to get to work if the answer is something best left today unsaid.

I think it is meant as a means to lean on anyone who might talk to the House about Obama's poltroonery at Benghazi.

I am weary of having to spend all of my time worrying about what the totalitarian collectivists (Obama and his crew) are going to do next to further enslave me in legion with the useful idiots that comprise the sophisticated elites (Chief Justice Roberts and assorted RINOs).
The democrats have assembled their dependent class proletariate mob while the republicans have compromised our Liberty and submitted to the totalitarian demands of the democrats piece by piece.
This U.S. Government is conducted in bad faith. It's a con game run by the Democrats to centralize power while the Republicans provide a facade of the system having a modicum of fairness and following the constitution.
I don't blame Romney, I don't blame SoCons, FiCons, NeoCons or any other Cons. I blame all those people who would strip me of my Liberty, acting in direct opposition of the Constitution's plain meaning. The people are not my countrymen, and I have nothing in common with them to any desire continued political and economic unity with them.
We are at the end of the road in this experiment in mixing people who embrace Socialism and those who embrace Liberty.
