I'm already sick of hearing that the Generals scandal is a "distraction" cooked up by Democrats or the media to keep people from thinking about Benghazi. As I explained yesterday on Twitter, we shouldn't just ignore security breaches because we wanted Obama to look bad at Benghazi hearings. Daniel Drezner had more on that:
So unlike, say, questions about drone warfare or counterterrorism policy or homeland security or civil liberties, Americans will pay attention to this stuff. Which is interesting, because over the past decade the military has been the one institution to inspire significant amounts of trust in Americans. The less that the public trusts the military, the less that they will trust what the military is doing.

USA Today has a long, but quality discussion of the fiscal cliff, including the three scenarios for how this will shake out.

I was just going to mention something about that. Isn't there some sort of automatic mechanism in place for recounts when the race is decided by around 1 percent? I keep thinking four lousy states and 407,000 votes.
Not that I think you can 'undo' a concession, but

This would lure small business owners over to our side, make it easier for a lot of them to stay in business by reducing their taxes, and we could use it as a wedge to show we are the real protectors of the "Little guy." By asking why people should pay more than businesses, and demand that individual tax rates be the same, or lower than, small business rates.
And then we could campaign to make that the tax rate for all businesses.
Kind of a judo approach: lower rates for businesses to keep jobs, then lower people's rates to match, then lower big business rates to match everyone else's. Start with something defensible. Use a single mom owner of a dog-walking business or a gay hipster cake baker or the proud black owner of a barbecue stand as the face of the initial campaign.
And paint any lefties that try to argue against it as sexist, misogynist, racist, homophobes.
Fuck the left. Time to use their tactics against them.

A lot of the Morons here say that it will make things worse. But all of the initial conventions allowed each State ONE vote on matters. There are a LOT more red States than there are blue States so we should be able to restore some sanity or if not agree to split up
A constitutional convention can do that peacefully w/o a war between the States.

The thing is, and this needs to be said over and over and over, Generals are politicians first and foremost. This is Obama's purge of the Generals put there by Bush. He'll have his own set of loyals ready and waiting to take their place.

Also sadly, I would assume the untold story is Generals are often, if not always, surrounded by boinkable help of one sort or another. So to take one down this way is to play "gotcha" with a ploy of pretending this is new or different. It's not.

I have not made up my mind yet but I do know my vote means a lot more in my state than it seems to at the Federal level.

Bogie (incidentally, he didn’t like the nickname) treated acting much as his drinking buddy Spencer Tracy did – not something a real man ought to be doing. This underlying contempt for his work contributed to his natural tendency to drink and a rather low self-esteem didn’t help his sobriety, especially towards the end of his life when he realized that Frank Sinatra – a founding member of Bogie’s Holmby Hills Rat Pack – was providing Lauren Bacall the physical satisfaction Bogart himself could not.
During the filming of Sabrina in 1954, Bogart was unhappy with the movie, not liking co-star Audrey Hepburn, hating the fact that he was not director Billy WilderÂ’s first choice for the role of Linus Larrabee and convinced he was totally wrong for the sort of comedy-romance film Sabrina was designed to be. To add to his anger, Hepburn and Holden embarked on a torrid affair, which for some reason made Bogie incredibly jealous, and he treated Hepburn horribly. "I wish Cary Grant, who was the first choice for Bogie's role, had accepted," Holden later recalled. "He was a pain in the ass and incredibly hostile." Wilder had lost relatives during the Holocaust, but Bogart called him "Kraut bastard" and "Nazi." In front of the cast, Bogart ridiculed Hepburn and did devastating impressions of her.
Director Vincent Sherman, who directed Bogie in Crime School (193
, The Return of Doctor X (1939) and All Through the Night (1942), had this to say about him: "When I directed Bogie, I never knew if he'd show up beaten, stabbed or bloody. He was married to this vixen named Mayo Methot, and they were known as the Battling Bogarts.
'She showed up on the Dr. X set one day looking for her man, rightly suspecting he was having an affair with the script girl. I was ahead of her. I sent Bogie to my studio office to fuck the girl, because the first place Methot looked was Bogie's dressing room.
'To get one up on Bogie, who thought he was so damn smart, I came up with an idea. Since she couldn't find her straying husband, I invited the bitch for a drink. Before the night ended, I screwed this hot-to-trot harridan and Bogie was none the wiser. He showed up the next day looking like the cat who swallowed the canary. But I was the one who got his whore. Well, that was pretty mean, wasnÂ’t it? So hereÂ’s a nicer story with Bogart, again during Casablanca:
Scenes for the movie were shot on a day-to-day basis, and there never was a complete shooting script until the final wrap. No one, not even director Michael Curtiz, knew whether Bergman would end up with Bogart or Paul Henreid. One morning, after reading a few pages of script that were fresh off the typewriter, Curtiz told Bogart, “You’ve got an easy day today. Go on that balcony, look down and to the right and nod. Then you can go home.”
“What am I nodding at?” Bogart asked. “What’s my attitude?”
“Don’t ask so many questions,” Curtiz snapped. “Get up there. Nod. Go home.”
So Bogie did. It wasn’t until he saw the movie at its premiere that he realized his nod was the trigger for the famous “Marseillaise” scene, where the Rick’s Café nightclub orchestra drowns out a table of Germans singing “Die Wacht am Rhein.”

A good question, Vic, and one that I can't answer with any huge degree of confidence. In the above Bogie stories, for example, the Holden / Hepburn affair and Holden's belt notches are true. As far as Bogie and Bergman having an affair, that is true. Sherman's reminiscences. . .perhaps. I try to make sure everything I say is backed up, but sometimes (especially when it comes to sex), there's really no way to make sure. Caveat emptor, as in everything else.

Actually, I still think it could happen, but popular sentiment needs to move that way. Right now, we're at somewhere over 80,000 signatures. In a state with (IIRC) approximately 24,000,000 legal residents (which, obviously, doesn't count the illegals, but they don't count anyway). That's simply not enough support.
On the other hand, I think things will move that way pretty quickly once ObamaCare kicks in. Even more so if people start realizing we're already paying to bail out California.

I repeat, the problem with vote fraud is that the majority of it occurs in blue States in heavy blue minority controlled urban areas. The people responsible for finding it and prosecuting it are the ones doing it.
There is very little a Republican can do. But vote fraud did not cost us this election. The election still goes by State, not popular vote. We would not have won these blue States anyway and the amount of fraud is usually very low.
However, that only applies to Presidential elections. It makes a big difference for State elections like Senator Al Fruckin.

Yeah, I agree with you. I'm on the fence about secession, but I'm on the fence from a practical standpoint. I've probably thought about it more than is healthy for me, and there are all kinds of practical concerns that many people forget about.
Most of those go away if the Texas Legislature says, "We want to withdraw" and the Federal Government says, "OK." Then it's just a matter of negotiation and treaties.
If shots are fired, though, things get very sticky very quickly. Not just because of the violence itself, but there are commercial concerns as well.
Consider this: Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopter, and a variety of other defense contractors have facilities in Texas. But what is the likelihood they could keep their US defense contracts (which, in the short term, would probably be more lucrative than contracts with Texas) if they also supplied arms to Texas? And if they then chose to shut down those plants and move operations out of the State, what would Texas do? Nationalize those plants? Force the workers to continue building?
Banks. Now, Texas has a high number of "State Banks" but even those are tied very tightly to the National Government. Given they expressly cannot operate outside the State of Texas, that should be Unconstitutional, but that cow is already out of the barn. Banks LIVE off money from the Fed. They routinely take loans from the Fed, and they rarely carry enough currency (which probably wouldn't be useful in Texas anyway) to last more than a few days.
I could go on, but you begin to see the problems, I think. Now, there are solutions to these problems, but the very nature of those solutions requires that you not broadcast that you're pursuing them, which makes it very hard for supporters of the movement to know they're being done.

All valid concerns. Essentially what has to happen is we have to start deciding how serious we are and I am not the guy to be a big wheel in anything for a slew of reasons. Texas with enough allied states in a new federation has enough economic power to say "we are serious and we will make it stick" and maybe snipe off some businesses that are pissed at EPA and the Happiness KGB in DC.

O lost support in all but 3 states from his 08 margins if I remember the data correctly. He also lost support among all demographics compared to 08 except for Hispanics. Almost everywhere his support was at a net minus. Unfortunately the GOP didn't turnout nationally and we lost a close election.

Ive actually run headfirst into this at church, of all places. I was asked a couple years ago to help out with running audio/video for church on Sundays. Yes, we're one of those evil places that has guitars and drums, so sound is more than just wiring up the preacher. We also have to large projectors at the front where all the words for songs are displayed and the preacher's sermon points go and videos are shown. Well, we are now in a position where only a couple people are even capable of running a Sunday morning if everything was already created and ready to go. Actually create the slides, backgrounds, etc for a new song or that day's sermon? Maybe, maybe one person can do that with any sort of success. And he's the worship pastor. Kinda busy.
So, I'm never allowed to be sick or miss church. About the only time I do miss is around Christmas when we go spend time with my wife's family. And every time I do miss a Sunday or two, I get hugs and "Oh thank God you're back! It was a disaster!"

Come on down and join the party, Charles. Due to a diverse economic base here, the area is somewhat recession proof. Property taxes are low, but home insurance is pretty pricy. Homes themselves are cheap here compared to many other areas.
I spent 18 years in Chicagoland myself, and I don't the place at all.
One side note -- It is HOT here in the summer. Humid and hot. Did I mention it is hot here?

In NC, we elected a Republican governor for only the third time since Reconstruction. McCrory won with 55% of the vote (Romney beat Obama with just over 50%). That's a LOT of Dems crossing over to vote for a Republican. There is hope. When the GOP nominates a conservative, pro-private sector candidate, we win. The Republicans also control the NCstate house and state senate.

The Republican Party needs serious reform if it is to be competitive in the 2014 federal election cycle. We need closed primaries and an effective GOTV program. The Republican wing of the Political Class will fight reform tooth and nail (and with hefty checkbooks). If the Establishment is unwilling to reform, then conservatives must defend themselves by giving serious thought to a third party alternative. It is the primary system that is hurting our chances for electoral victory.

I am weary of having to spend all of my time worrying about what the totalitarian collectivists (Obama and his crew) are going to do next to further enslave me in legion with the useful idiots that comprise the sophisticated elites (Chief Justice Roberts and assorted RINOs).
The democrats have assembled their dependent class proletariate mob while the republicans have compromised our Liberty and submitted to the totalitarian demands of the democrats piece by piece.
This U.S. Government is conducted in bad faith. It's a con game run by the Democrats to centralize power while the Republicans provide a facade of the system having a modicum of fairness and following the constitution.
I don't blame Romney, I don't blame SoCons, FiCons, NeoCons or any other Cons. I blame all those people who would strip me of my Liberty, acting in direct opposition of the Constitution's plain meaning. The people are not my countrymen, and I have nothing in common with them to any desire continued political and economic unity with them.
We are at the end of the road in this experiment in mixing people who embrace Socialism and those who embrace Liberty.
