— Gabriel Malor Happy Three Dozen Day.
Liberals started bleating about "free loaders" as soon as it looked like Michigan's right-to-work law would pass. Heritage's Lachlan Markay explains the myth of the free loader. Generally, there's nothing in law stopping unions from members-only bargaining; they usually make a choice to bargain on behalf of non-members, who they then deride as "free loaders" and demand agency fees from.
The Seventh Circuit shot down Illinois' blanket ban on carrying outside the home. It relied, in part, on the Second Amendment's "bear arms" text to reject Illinois' argument that the "keep" in "keep and bear arms" meant that citizens only had the right to keep arms in the home.
Rand Simberg has an excellent article on property rights in space. It's long.
Meanwhile North Korea successfully launched a satellite.
The Democrats really have done a number on us. Not only have have Democrats seized the mantle of tax cutting, but Obama is demanding that Republicans, not himself and not Democrats, take the lead on picking what are sure to be portrayed as "unpopular" spending cuts.

Let it burn and use them for fuel.

Death of Kings
Historical-fiction master Bernard Cornwell's latest installment of his critically acclaimed Saxon Chronicles begins as the ninth century wanes. Alfred the Great lies dying with his kingdom on the brink of chaos. Though his son, Edward, is his successor, others desire the throne and ambitious pagan Vikings threaten from the north.
(Note: I read the first 3 books in this series. They started out good but became tedious after a while)

Alas, I think most lawyers don't learn "teh stoopid" until after they get out of school. It's the profession itself that corrupts their minds. The milieu in which they operate is so isolated and insulated they develop a way of abusing the language that only they fully understand, and in the end, only benefits them.
Whenever I encounter lawyers (and I have several of them in my family) I tend to look at them with sympathy. It's like a chronic, self-chosen disease.

They are up 80% in the last four years.
I do all of the shopping for my family so I am quite familiar with the real inflation that is going on.
It's a good thing that the rocket surgeons who calculate inflation don't use food prices in their calculations or the President might have something to answer for.

I saw a study that was done by Heritage back around the 2008 time frame. The average cost in wages and benefits to build a car in Detroit by the big 3 was around $80/hr. The average cost to build a car at the non-union plant in TN was $35/hr.
The numbers speak for themselves. The big 3 will be bankrupt again soon because the root problem was never fixed.

I work every Friday in our church's food pantry and we are beginning to get people who simply cannot feed their families and pay rent. When people are excited and grateful to get a free pack of beans or box of cereal, it just makes you so sad.
I went to the grocery yesterday and noticed that the Tombstone pizzas, a frequent sale item at Kroger, have gone from 5/$10 to 4/$10. That's a 25% jump in pricing. Eggs have been at $1.98 / dozen for 3 weeks. Butter, which I remember buying 2 years ago for baking at 99 cents/ lb. is now on sale for $2.49.

And as a result they've pushed past the threshold where the political process is a viable remedy for our ills. LIB (maybe with a little bit of legal MIB) is the only legal solution we have. The administration is litterally evil - they endorse evil men and evil practices. They are shameless lawbreakers, and are never called to account. Let it fall down and die. America deserves it for abandoning that which is good.

Who’s “us,” white man? If the goddamn GOP is too stupid to keep out of the way of its own dick in dealing with the SCOAMF, they deserve the pounding they get. I remember in one of the endless post-mortem threads, someone asserting (in view of some commenters’ insistence that Romney should have really pimp-slapped Barky) that people like me wouldn’t be happy unless Romney had called the Kenyan dog-eater a “lying asshole” on national TV. Obama is a lying asshole. Perhaps instead of wondering “when the President is going to get serious,” as Bitch McConnell was reported on the morning news, the leadership should call him a lying, lazy, shiftless, worthless asshole and let the chips fall where they may. So we get blamed for harsh language – so what? Time to punch back twice as hard. So we get called out for demeaning the office of the presidency – so what? We can’t demean it more than Preezy’s own presence has done.
Oh, whatÂ’s the use? Just roll over, Boehner, and get it over with. We know you donÂ’t really give a shit about the fiscal cliff, the country or the base. You only want to make sure your access to a carton of Camels and a case of Man-Tan is unimpeded. Jackass.
*deep breath*
Thanks (I guess) for the news, Gabe and Vic. Today is the birthday of Edward G. Robinson (“where’s your Messiah now, nyeahh?”). Like Roger Moore, he didn’t like to handle guns and would squeeze his eyes shut whenever he had to fire one, forcing makeup men to tape his eyelids open for scenes that called for gun-slinging.
One day, as Robinson was coming out of a movie theater, and elderly woman holding a little boy by the hand came up to him and asked if he was the actor “who played Little Caesar and all those other bad men,” and when he said he was, exclaimed, “Well, I’m glad I have this opportunity of telling you to your face what a bad influence your pictures have had on our young people.” “What makes you think so?” Robinson asked. “I ought to know,” she said firmly, shaking the little boy’s arm. “I’ve taken my grandson to see Little Caesar eight times.”
If you’re a fan of classic movies, you may have seen the name W.S. Van Dyke on a number of pictures. A veteran of the silent days, Van Dyke was known as “One-Shot Woody” for his insistence on speedy takes. Here’s a story from Keenan Wynn that illustrates his cost-saving measures: during the filming of an early Thin Man movie, it seems, there was a trucking shot which moved down a long refectory table. Seated at the table were most of the MGM stock company, character actors that audiences knew on sight. At the head of the table was the group’s boss, who was supposed to deliver a long speech as the camera trucked down the table, capturing the reactions of the other actors.
As the camera got to the end of the table, the actor intoned, “And that’s all I’ve got to say.” He sat down. . .and actually died! Naturally, the studio doctor was called. “Yes, he’s dead,” the doctor opined. “Better get him out of here.”
“Hold it! Hold it!” Van Dyke yelled. Before anyone could touch the corpse, the director pulled out his viewfinder and squatted down in back of the actor’s body, looking for an over-the-shoulder shot. “OK,” he finally said, “take him out, but leave the coat.” And he kept on working.
Now IÂ’ve got to go to work (ugh!). Hope you all have a wonderful day.

This is all true, but is not likely to be inflation in the sense that the change in the money supply is a factor. We just got through the 5th worst drought in recorded American history. This isn't the only country that had problems this year, either. Demand is stable or increasing, and the supply is constrained.
Much as I hate, and I really do mean HATE, the current administration, this is one area there is damn little anyone can do to help.

This is something that everyone can understand. I swear that yesterday at the grocery it seemed like a huge number of things were priced at $5.00. Bag of apples, pound of American cheese, large container of oatmeal, etc.
Try feeding 3 kids on a paycheck of $350/week and you can see what the problem is.

AND, why are food prices and fuel prices conveniently left out of the inflation calculation? The whole point of inflation calculation is to allow the country to know what's going on, and to give cost-of-living calculations for things like Social Security. When they drop food prices but include the cost of televisions as their method, they are jacking around with the figures to make Obama look good and stiffing the seniors.

A lot of those grown in WA and OR are those tasteless red delicious. Never cared for them and I think they are grown so they can be shipped all over the place. They taste mostly like water. WI, MN, and MI even Il, grow apples and I always look forward to them in the fall. Macintosh, Jonathons and Golden Delicious are always a treat. This year there was a early frost that took out a lot of the crop during the blossom stage. It wasn't the drought so much. Of course the drought could impact next years crop.

Posted by: Miss Marple at December 12, 2012 07:38 AM (GoIUi)
I don't know much about Chilean grapes, but I do know that the cost to get them here is not going down. And I know that in addition to the US drought which actually IS a big deal (Michigan grows apples, corn, and almost everything else that can live in our climate and we're hit HARD this year by drought and late frosts).
Here's the thing about the inflation number - it's meant to reflect how monetary policy is affecting prices by inducing money-supply inflation. Fuel and food have wild price swings that are not money-supply-induced. We have a global market for food and energy that suffers constant supply shocks and a demand level that is continually growing and doing so at a very irregular rate. China is converting rice paddies into pastures, and the same thing in places like the Phillipines where standards of living are rising. The rich get their meat, and the poor get the shaft. The reduction in supply of basic grains pushes up the price. Swings up, or down, in food and energy are affected far less by money supply than by exogenous factors. If we are to measure the impact of increased money supply, we need something that has a more stable supply and demand profile, or else we induce a bunch of noise to the calculation. Thus, any inflation figure that includes those two factors is fairly useless for making money-supply related decisions.
Food and energy "inflation" should be its own separate reportable figure. Then we could use it to drive policy changes that would be specific to those items without trying to use the broad brush of monetary policy to affect change - which is ineffective.

My former brother-in-law had a union job with a company that makes aluminum Coke cans. Part of their contract said that, if they threatened to go on strike, workers could work as much overtime as they wanted in advance. If they didn't go on strike, everything went back to normal and the workers kept all the extra money. The only one hurt by a strike was the company.

It costs abot $70 a man hour to be at top production but that is all overhead combined. With benefits pay is from $39.00 for entry level to $45.00 for top wage workers.

I've read a lot of 'tree of liberty' stuff, and 'when the shooting starts,' but I never took it too seriously until the past four or five months.
Now I think it might actually be serious. Deadly serious. I never thought I'd actually believe that about my country.

don't know the tuition rates now, but St Anne's in Sumter was pretty cheap (about $3800 for upper school). not heavy on religion except in religion class, and that was just basic catechism. the priest was a cool older irishman - ripped blue jeans, sweatshirt, and cigarettes while mowing the lawns.
from downtown sumter to the gardner's ferry target was a straight drive of about 25 minutes in the middle of the day. there are some housing developments near the base that had rentals - decent price 3 years ago for good size with yard...if you don't mind the sound of freedom overhead.

Nor are protesters necessarily union members. Many years ago, a union went on strike against a large grocery store chain. It came out that almost none of the picketers were union members. Most were homeless or unemployed people that the union had hired for slightly higher than minimum wage to stand out and picket for them.

Check out americandigest.org this morning for a cold, hard dose of what's coming our way:
And just in case you don't think they're making lists.
They've already had the GooHooBingBook hipsters set them up with a data mining operation. Once it's up and running, it doesn't take much to re-purpose. They have lots of money left over. Now they are trying to get their supporters to call up other targeted people and put pressure on the Republican Congresscritters. And so it begins.
Which means they have a list of their reliable people, their potential supporters, and a list of Others. Data mining merges their own data, with anything found on the Web. Now that they aren't running a campaign, but they still have a war chest, they can grab or buy surreptitiously anything out there, and "there's no controlling legal authority". And Google will be glad to help, Eric Schmidt will personally see to it, he'll sell them the rope.
And when these unemployed hipsters with massive college debt call you up, and you start cussing at the mention of the Usurper and being "uncooperative", well, then you go on the "Other" list. And they data mine you and find out everything about you, and how you can be hurt.
They'll keep track of how often you help them. The compliant ones, who respond to their pleas, will soon start getting bennies. And who the heck is paying for all this? Shoot, no one had the courage to sue them when they were laundering millions in illegal foreign money during both elections. The Courts and the constitutional lawyers mewled that "nobody has standing to sue". Now that they are beyond the reach of election law, the money just magically appears. None dare call it treason.
Like a pusher or a pimp, they'll next try to get you to graduate to the "hard stuff": direct action. Please, they'll say, we really need your help, show up at this time and place to help the Usurper. They'll loan you a t-shirt to wear (and ask you to buy it). The leaders will have special shirts, and campaign-style buttons, and perhaps cute little hats. And you'll go where you're told, and do what you're asked to, and they'll bus you there and give you a stipend. You're One of Them now.
And if you keep answering their call, you go higher on the "One of Us" list, and qualify for more bennies. Free phones, debt forgiveness, extra ration cards. Chevy Volts at an unheard of discount.
Watch for it. The turning point is when the purple T-shirts disappear, and it becomes button-down shirts with epaulets. Uniforms. Insignia. The hats aren't so cute anymore. You'll be part of the team now, the core of the Usurper's civilian national security force. And you'll go where you're told, and you'll do what you're told, because the bennies keep coming, and you're in for a penny, in for a pound. And the people you're contesting against, well, they're the Other, they're just wrong, they're the 1% that's keeping you down and pissing on you all the time. And now it's your turn, your time to rise. Time for revenge, to punch back twice as hard. And when some of your folks start feeling queasy about the hurt you're putting on all those Others, somebody with hard dead eyes will say "You can't make an omelette without breaking eggs."
You won't have to worry about the police. They'll be on your side. They're loyalty is to their union and police brothers, not our Constitution. They'll look the other way, and slow-walk complaints. Unless you're on the "Other" list, in which case they'll come on like a ton of bricks. They'll be told who's on which list, and they'll do what they're told. LAPD has shown us the truth of it.
When a sitting President encourages people to vote for revenge, that is a declaration of civil war! Statements like that should not be made, because they take on a life of their own. We the People granted limited powers to our governments to secure some of our Rights, and the Blessings of Liberty for everyone. The Usurper intends to use those powers for revenge of one faction upon another. No rational, moral, civilized, peaceful person would say such a thing. Ever.
The Usurper and his minions have told you all this. He decides how much money you're allowed to make, you don't own what you create, if need be they'll send you to re-education camps, we need a personally-loyal civilian army. Why don't you believe him? Do you believe that he can't possibly want civil war? Of course he doesn't, he wants to so demoralize you, and make you think you are alone, that you won't stand your ground, but give up and give in to the inevitable. But he will not shy from a civil war. He intends to push you to the limit, that you will start it, and he will then crush you before you have time to organize an effective opposition.
Right now the Usurper doesn't give a crap about fiscal cliffs. He doesn't care what any of that will do to the country. His three objectives are to demoralize and destroy the conservative opposition, co-opt and corrupt the Republicans (so easy!), and then break free of the Constitution.
It seems like a dream, a mirage of unbreakable normality. Like the spring of 1914 or 1939, like the crisp fall morning eleven years ago. Like our exceptional, beautiful country, the rarest gem in all of history, is so big and strong, nothing can happen to it, everything will go on peacefully as before, we are still the shining city on the hill, and our best days are before us. Every day we make plans for next year and the years after, and can't possibly imagine or consider that any set of events will break our idyll of peace and turn all our plans to dust. I fly across the country, and see the vast strength of it and Our People, and think my fears are childish and foolish vapors. And then I remember that all civilizations crumble.
We must make new plans. We must be prepared. We must resist the Usurper and his minions. Now and every day. They have lost their faith in God, and seek to secure their lives by taking ours. We must remain true to the faiths of our fathers and mothers. The United States of America, the new nation that put its Trust in God, that brought the Blessings of Liberty to the world, must not perish. Today is not that day. Tolkein is my guide. Frodo: "I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened." Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” Lincoln is my guide: “Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God's side, for God is always right”

It's been happening for years. Any old recipes that call for a bag or box or can of something are going to be screwed up big time. Convert the measurements to weight, either oz's or nubans (whatever they call that god forsaken metric shit) now.
The package size reduction are to help you, because now the bag isn't so heavy to carry home. plus we can keep the prices the same for the poor comsumer. WIN-WIN!!!

I know, but I read the case law on that and it's not as rock solid as the castle laws in say, Texas or Florida.
If I lived in Danville, I'd be pretty comfortable with dropping someone with the VA law as is. But I live in Alexandria....so I am not as confident. There's just too much wiggle room for a camera-whore Commonwealth's Attorney to ignore.
Ask George Zimmerman what that scenario looks like.

Meanwhile North Korea successfully launched a satellite.
No fear, everyone! I heard this morning on the news that this successful satellite launch will bring about another heavy wave of sanctions against the NoKo's. THAT'LL teach 'em! I hope you all have bought all the North Korean goods and services you'll need for a while, because you're not going to have a chance pretty soon!
What's that? Oh, we don't buy NoKo products? Oh.
Well, hey, at least we'll be able to stop sending them food and money! That'll starve 'em out!
You know, until we're guilted into giving them more food again, which they'll immediately give to their political and military classes while continuing to fuck the general population.

The GOP should seize the opportunity to back the unions on this issue. That will garner some of the union vote in future elections (the solid Democrat union vote is what cost Romney the election) for the GOP candidate. In addition, union members will begin reading libertarian literature and join the right in whittling down the welfare state and the free loading it engenders.

Four years ago a small trip would run me $30 and a large trip would run $50, today a small trip is $50 and a large trip is $90.
So a small trip has gone up 67% and a large trip has risen 80%
I use my debit card exclusively so I have actually done a weekly chart of the last 208 weeks.
The lack of reporting on this "hidden" inflation is a crime and is intentional.

As usual, AtC asks a very pertinent question, namely who are the competent leaders in the Republican Party. I would add, I can't think of any real standouts in the conservative movement either. My vision of 2016 is the the non-overtly-liberal constituency will be scrambling like mad to find a candidate, any candidate, that appears to have an IQ > 100, is able to read from a teleprompter, and won't be labeled as a right wing extremist by the MFM (until close to the election).
With leaders like Boehner and McConnell, and consultants like Rove, we don't need enemies in the MFM or the Dem party, we've got them in house.
I just hope DeMint has some long-term (actually about 18 months is all he's got) strategic plans for his Heritage gig, because that is the only hope I see, unless of course we nominate Jeb Bush by acclamation!

A lot of sausage recipes call for a smmmmallll amount of sugar to be added to offset the saltiness of the recipe anyway. What they are doing with the corn syrup is sweetening the sausage PLUS bulking it a little (As much as they can get away with) so they can reduce the meat and fat that is supposes to be in it. Especially and reduced fat products.

You have two incorrect assumptions here:
1) figuring out how to make chlorine gas from household chemicals doesn't require one to stay up at night. It's easy enough to figure out when you do it by accident once.
2) You're assuming that these douchebags are still "fellow Americans".
