Happy Monday.

Gallup: Even a majority of Democrats (56%), and a majority of those who think that ObamaCare is a good thing (54%), say the individual mandate is unconstitutional. Overall, 72% of Americans think the mandate is unconstitutional.

Afghanistan suicide bomber kills eight or nine Muslims in Koran-rage attack against NATO base. I'm sure they'll find that just outrageous.

Act of Valor was tops at the box office this weekend. WashTimes says it's the culmination of a media strategy that started with embedded reporters.

2 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Monday, February 27th, 2012.  On this day in 1953 my wife was born.  On this day in 1933 the Reichstag in Germany was destroyed by fire.  Of course the Communists were to blame and the Nazis used it as an excuse to gain more power over Germany.  Sort of like having your own government ship guns to drug cartels across the border as an excuse for more power being shifted to the government.

6 Aussie PM Julia Gillard retains her leadership in the leftist Labor Party after a vote yesterday.  She became Pm of Australia without a vote two years ago just by assuming leadership of the Party. This is the way this type of government works.  She can stand by for another vote if the conservative Party continues to gain more support.

7 Taking cruises to Mexico is becoming dangerous.   Gee who would have thunk it?  Almost all of Mexico has become a land of lawless gang and mob activity.  Why should cruise ship passengers be exempted.  Stand by as yet another Mexican business activity goes under. Only fools go all touristy to places that run rampant with crime.  NYC found this out way back in the 60s and 70s and managed to hide it using manipulation of numbers.

8 It is simply amazing. Leftist press in Great Britain see no solution to the government being broke. Can not stimulate the economy by tax cuts or increased spending, oh what to do, what to do.  Absolutely no thought given to stopping throwing away money to freeloading muzzies and bums and reducing job killing regulations.   Does that not sound familiar?

9 Occutards throw balloons filled with piss at cops.  Charged with “criminal mischief”.   These assholes are nothing more than the same anarchist SOBs who have been around for decades.  The police need to wade into them, beat the shit out of them and charge them with felonies. Instead they are arrested and a compliant leftist city government gives them a stern warning for the 1000th time and turns them lose so they can move to a different city and do the same thing.

The Brits did this same shit for decades and the criminals became even more lawless as they realized they could do anything they wanted. They tries to burn the city down.  Cities must crack down on these SOBs soon.

10 These idiots must think we are stupid.  They claim postal service cuts jeopardize vote by mail schemes. What utter bull shit. This just shows what lengths local idiots will go to keep a post office open in communities that should not have one due to the expense.  We have a little community, so small it is not even considered a town, near me.  It is not even an incorporated town, but by gollee it has a post office.  There is a full service large post office in a town no more than 7 miles away.

11 Chucky Cheesedk wants to pressure Saudi Arabia to flood the market with oil.  As I said yesterday, high gas prices are not the result of production/use imbalances this time. It is the result of dollars being worthless.   Of course the only one calling that the cause is the WSJ.   All the rest are partially kissing ObamaÂ’s ass and calliong ity supply/demand despite the fact that actual demand is way way down.  One liberal site I looked at this morning put up a few select commodities and said “see these havenÂ’t shot up”.  All commodities would be though the roof right now if we were not in a world wide depression. Instead of looking at industrial commodities like Copper you should be looking at commodities that are not so much the subject of market collapse.  How about food?  Meanwhile I filled up wifeÂ’s car yesterday $3.58/gal, cost me $55 to fill her tank.  It scares me to think what it will cost to fill both tanks in my truck.

I monitored the weather yesterday and could tell that they wouldn't be able to get the track dry, which they weren't. The race is scheduled for today at noon, but that same pattern is holding over the area just north of here. Don't see them running the race today. Tonight, maybe. The track is only an hour from the house.

We'll see what happens and go when the weather permits.

Second. WRT the occutards, I am wondering if, since prominent Dems, including Obumbles,  have loudly supported this rabble, there mightn't be a backlash among swing voters.

I  looked up the 1968 election results to see if that generation of bomb throwers, shit bags, and commies generated a backlash. I couldn't tell from the wiki results.

Nixon          31,783,783   43.4%   381 EVs

Humphry    31,271,839    42.7%   191 EVs

Wallace        9,901,118     13.5%     46 EVs

A long time ago at work I warned some of the morons there who were advocating "religious type laws".  If you want to keep the government out of your church, you must keep your church out of the government.  That doesn't mean that church members must stay out of politics, only the church itself.

Russian and Ukrainian security services have foiled a plot to assassinate Vladimir Putin after next week's presidential election, Ukraine's SBU counter-intelligence agency said on Monday. Russian pro-government Channel One television said Ukrainian special services in the Black Sea port of Odessa had held two men linked to a group seeking an Islamist state in Russia's North Caucasus.

Some Russians reacted with skepticism, making clear on social network sites that they did not believe the report or suggesting the timing of the announcement was intended to attract sympathy for Putin before the March 4 election.

108 @91

I was born and raised in the Bronx in the 70's and 80's

New York was very, very dangerous place.

So dangerous that a "vigilante" group called the Guardian Angels was
necessary to help the police patrol the subways.

One reason I will always be grateful for Rudy is the way in which he transformed NY in the early 90's

New York is a far, far different city.

Bloomberg sucks, he is only able to be the nanny that he is because of the efforts of Rudy and Bratton.

Perception and reality rarely coincide.

Without any documentary evidence of fraud, it's just speculation.

You are making assumptions that simply aren't valid. For instance...why do you assume that small cities are, by definition, safer than large cities? There are plenty of examples of small cities that are incredibly unsafe.

And my experience is that NYC has become much, much safer since the 1970s
(I am not talking about midtown Manhattan. I mean the Bronx and Brooklyn too).

More boring too, but that's another issue.

Three or four students were hit by the gunfire, said Larry Reiter of the Chardon Schools Board of Education. He did not know their conditions, but said helicopters had been called to take the injured to a hospital.

Based on the statistics, NYC is safer than Oats, SC., at least in terms of whatever crime you are using for comparison. The calculation is simple: total population /#of crimes.

Why is that difficult to understand?

And why is it that Oats SC reports correct numbers, but according to anecdotal evidence from a few people, NYC may be under-reporting? There are a lot more people looking at NYC's numbers than are looking at Oats' numbers.

In fact...it's a national disgrace that Oats, SC is under-reporting their crime statistics! It's fraud!

The cities are headed back to the state of the early 70s.  All it takes is one little thing to spark white flight and it's all over.  Overall crime statistics don't matter nearly as much.  It's how people begin to feel about their situation.  That can change in a heartbeat, given the proper environment, and today we certainly have the proper environment.

149 When looking at crime stats, how much weight do they put on "crime density"?

In large cities, you have higher population density - even with a lower crime rate, there could still be a higher chance of crime happening within your neighborhood.

Curious how that might affect the reality of crime stats.   It might be safer statistically, but you also might feel less safe just because you end up seeing more crime nearby.

And if there's a single street where everyone caught alone there get robbed/murdered; in a city with a very large population - it may be safe in the entire city, statistically, but it would still be a bad idea to walk down that street.
