Obama/Chu strike again:

Sun's exit clouds Marcus Hook

MARCUS HOOK has long been a quintessential company town, joined at the hip with the iconic Philadelphia company Sunoco for more than a century.

With imminent closure of Sunoco's refinery there, most of the 590 workers get their last paychecks today.

Now, fear is seeping into this quaint, tight-knit, working-class burg in Delaware County - fear that it could turn into a modern-day ghost town.

When Sunoco said in September that it would dump the last of its remaining refining operations and focus on oil pipelines and fuel retailing, local workers and residents hoped that a buyer would emerge for the 110-year-old, 175,000-barrel-per-day refinery.

But Sunoco's chairman and chief executive officer, Lynn Elsenhans, said that Sunoco didn't get a single proposal to operate Marcus Hook as a refinery. The plant has been idle since Dec. 1.

Obama strikes again. Iran will get their bomb and you'll get $6.00 gas:

Western trade sanctions against Iran are strangling its oil exports even before they go into effect, a U.S. advisory body has found, amid warnings that any shortages will only push up crude prices and strain a weak global economy.

The National Review:  The Arabic-language newspaper al-Arabiya reported on Tuesday that the Obama administration has offered to release Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman to Egypt.

This offer is to swap for the 16 American activists held for trial, to include the Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood's son.

There's absolutely nothing political involved in this decision.  If you were held or a member of your family was detained, the offer would be the same.  Over.

Congress risks taking the economy over a “massive fiscal cliff,” Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke warned lawmakers on Wednesday.

In remarks that hit Wall Street stock prices, the central bank boss suggested the economy could hit a serious roadblock if Congress allows the Bush tax rates and a payroll tax cut to expire and $1.2 trillion in spending cuts to be implemented simultaneously in January.

Last week, while testifying before Congress, the presidentÂ’s acting budget director Jeffrey Zients undercut one of the central legal defenses of the law, admitting that the penalty imposed on those who do not purchase health insurance does not constitute a tax.

This admission might go a long way towards convincing the SC that it is unconstitutional. I think, but do not know for sure, that the contraception edict issued by the JEF is based upon powers granted in that monstrosity of a bill. Another reason to kill the whole bill.

Yep, let's have the Church forego its most sacred sacrament for the sake of 'optics'. 89 As for why a practicing Lesbian would want Catholic Communion- because they want to shove "it" (my apologies for any unwanted mental images, there) in the face of the Church.

To them, homosexuality is not something to be"tolerated" (that is- put up with despite its unpleasantness), but something to be revered and encouraged.

By the way, since this often comes up- it does not matter, theologically, whether or not homosexuality is genetic, learned, or some combination of the two.  The point- theologically- is not the "feelings" or the "preference," it's the conscious choice to engage in sinful behavior.

In that way, it's really like any other sin- from greed, to murder.  The primary difference is that practicing homosexuals have largely decided to take up a sinful lifestyle, where as most murders don't actually make a habit out of it.

96 Sunoco's problems are older than Obama, literally. Since the last of the Pew family left 50 years ago, they've done everything by fits and starts, pissed away subsidiaries, dumped developments just before they brought in a profit, given the farm to Venezuela not once but twice, and generally screwed up labor relations. When they made money, it was despite themselves. Elsenhans came in the door with a plan to get out of refining and into Twinkie and milk shoppes.

They sold my next-door refinery, at a loss, to a consortium headed up by ex-Phillips guys who wanted to boil some oil. They're raking it in, and the employees are pretty damn happy. No capital crises for them. Huh.

Watch this strategy: like Ohio Bell a generation ago, when they want to do the unthinkable, they bring in a woman CEO. Because to oppose Her would be Sexist.

Fires were lit in the streets, cars burned and bank windows smashed with missiles as the protests turned violent. At least one bank was broken into and police fired rubber bullets as roads in the city were blocked.

My guess is that mama, super catholic died, semi-estranged lesbian daughter decided to make a mockery of her funeral and voila she engineers a reporter, a contretemps with one of the priests on purpose, and a story in the paper to further fan the flames of anti-catholicism.

142 It's unfortunate that the priest cannot tell his side of the story. It appears, however, that the lesbian's version of events is not the way it went down. Before the funeral the lesbian entered the sacristy and introduced her partner to the priest as her lover. This is proof that she was actively engaged in a homosexual relationship. The priest, as is his duty, instructed the lesbian NOT to take communion at the Mass. The lesbian began to leave the sacristy, so the priest tried to follow her out to continue the conversation. The priest was then physically blocked from doing so by the gay lover! These facts were related by a Catholic who attended a post-incident meeting with the priest and others.

When I was contemplating a move to the Dominican Republic, the lack of regular electrical power worried me.  Having to use a backup bank of batteries and an inverter seemed like a hassle.  But now itÂ’s clear to me that by the time I retire the US will be like the DR.  WeÂ’ll only have electricity on a rotating 4-hour schedule.  4-on, 4-off.

ThatÂ’s gonna be real nice up here in Michigan Â– trying to heat the house in the dead of winter with an ongoing electrical shortage.  WeÂ’ll all be going back to wood fire places.  WeÂ’ll have to attach steam turbines to them in order to turn a fan to circulate the air.

I want to propose a new power source – burning the bodies of environmentalists.
