Happy Monday. Big thanks to Andy for handling the morning post while I was gone.

A record number of Americans now give the president “strongly” negative reviews on the 2012 presidential campaign’s most important issue: the economy. Much of that is related to high gas prices, which the President stupidly thinks should be higher.

The UK's "Equalities Minister" has ordered government lawyers not to defend the right of Christians to wear crosses at work in a case before the European rights court. The minister says wearing the cross is not a "genuinely recognized" form of practicing the Christian faith.

New, amateur footage of the Challenger disaster has been found. Still awful.

At SXSW: Nick Denton, Gawker founder, says online comment sections are a joke. Somehow the HQ's has escaped the fate of most. The trick is to call it a thingy.

And a Mass Effect 3 review. I'm loving this game.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Monday, March 12, 2012.  On this day in 1912 Juliette Low founded the Gril Scouts in Savannah, GA, home of the famous D'Oh clan.  Once the first pack was formed they immediately set out to baking cookies.

5 GE doubles down on AGW scam decries Republicans

Quote:

General Electric has brushed aside the doubts leading Republican presidential contenders have raised about climate science.

End quote

If this wasn't such a serious matter it would be laughable.  I suppose General Foods should double down on food science now.  Fuck these assholes.  We have no "doubts" either, AGW is a fraudulent scam and GE executives and all the politicians pushing it should be in jail.

7 Head of NRC is pushing Fujika "reforms".  Of course it is all bull shit.  This guy is a rabid anti nuke and the stuff that happened inJapan is already regulated here in the US.  Keep in mind that this Obamamanite is a rabid anti-nuke and has no business being on the board of the NRC.

His aim here is the same as the anti-nukes for decades, jack up the cost of nuke power with useless modification requirements and regulations to make it unprofitable to operate. He wants all this accelerated because he nows his days are numbered.

17 Gawker is probably right. Most of the comments I have seen at sites other than AoS are crap.  In fact, I left Townhall because the comment sections was literally hijacked by trolls.

You had to sift through 8 or 10 long stupid diatribes by the trolls and the responses to them to get to one decent comment that was on topic.  It became a chore.

Keep that in mind Morons next time you respond to a troll. Trolls come on and leave their shit balls because they want attention, and responding to them gives them that attention.

32 Santorum came out with a very cogent statement over the weekend that the "math" is not settled.  State conventions are still being held, and the final delegate counts, even for states having already held primaries and cauci, are still unknown.

My take is that the math may favor Romney, but he still may not win enough delegates prior to the national convention.

35 Went to Gawker from Breitbart on Louie CK story about boycotting Greta VS because she objected to Bill Maher. Got that? Well, at the beginning of the comments these enlightened hip 20 somethings thought that C*unt was the best dirty word ever! So sharp, so useful. And Louie Ck is a genius because it's hilarious when he uses C*unt and Down's Syndrome together. Genius!! Well this went on for 50 odd comments: C*unt is great! Why are these wingnut puritans so offended by it? What's the big deal? Then this dude saunters in and comments that Michelle Obama is a c*unt. HA! They instantly came unglued. I mean total mental meltdown. Refuting everything anyone had said just 2 lines above for all to see. Then they scrubbed the whole comment section. The intellectual horsepower of the lefties could not, when tethered in an array, power a musical birthday card.

36 Denton is pretty much right about internet comment boards.  Most of them suck.

Very very few good commenting communities.  Problem is most of them are basically hit and run.  Shoot off a comment and that's that.

The big money I imagine is in quickie data collection.  Twitter is great for that.  World's biggest focus group.  Make a comment, drop a hashtag at the end, no one cares what you actually have to say but the data ia collected and utilized.  #hoorayforbrandX or #fookbrandX it's all put to the same use.  You would think people would be on to this.  One can't say anything of value in 140 characters but that hashtag can be worth a pretty penny.

(Facebook is kind of the same but I think it offers more value for the user.  At least I can keep up with people.)

37 33 Only the waterfront smelled like shit (this is only relevant because the Cherry Trees are planted on the water). Alexandria and Georgetown's waterfronts were purely industrial until the 80s when the river didn't smell like feces. Currently, the libturd City Council wants to turn the entire waterfront in a city known for its historical appeal into a disney world of hotels and restaurants. The restaurant owners and the washington post are paying for an axelturf campaign to ruin the waterfront. They really want more taxes and they've learned that if they get them from corporations they don't have to listen to anyone. It's all pay to play.

--------------------------

Question is, will they use imminent domain and Kelo to do it?  And from what I have seen in other cities that have done that, when the city tries to force it it simply reverts to slums, porno shops, liquor stores, and other crap after a few years anyway.

As great thinker Jack Napier said, decent people shouldn't live here.

Regarding ME3 and your disappointment in the ending, I was initially annoyed at the spoiler, but at least you're bothering to play the campaign.

I never play multiplayer. I play these games, like Battlefield and Modern Warfare for the escape and the immersion in a pretty realistic environment. Although I wish that when I was a wee grunt I could change magazines that quickly, or loot bodies for ammo just by running past them.

In the campaign, at least your AI buddies are trying to help you, more or less.  You might have an overwatch mission, covering medics evacing the wounded. These are all realistic tasks you can both understand and sink your attention into.

In multiplayer, everyone is running around like fucking retards, snapping off 500-meter headshots from the standing unsupported. Because that's what snipers do, obviously.  Fuck concealment, Imma do a gainer off this 60-foot crane and kill you with a tomahawk.

And if you do kill one of these Mexican jumping tards, he'll just magically come back to life. Behind you. With his fucking tomahawk.

Lawn. Off. NOW.

Since March 2010, 30 states and Washington, D.C. have received $230 million in obesity prevention grants under the Communities Putting Prevention to Work Initiative (CPPW), a program established in the massive 2009 stimulus bill, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.------------------------------

82 Oh, and soda taxes are just 21st century sumptuary laws.  You know how much sugar/corn syrup is in a venti mochafrappaccino even before you drop another two-fiddy for a cake pop to go with it?  But you don't see a lot of po' folks in coffeehouses.

83 Good morning, 'rons.  I spent much of the weekend off the grid, enjoying the new car.  Quite an aggressive little thing.

One of the many cute features is the ability to follow twitter while driving (yeah, no distracted driving danger there).  I programmed in a standard "Obama is an unelectable SCOAMF" tweet that I can send while driving

I was going to put a twitpic link in my sig, but Pixy banned twitter.com?  WTF?

84 Well fine, I will just use tinyurl, since I'm finally back on my computer.

I've never understood the link ban here, I don't think I ever will.

85 We have many of the 100 year old cherry trees here in West Chester and environs - the ones in DC came from here, in fact: Five days after Mrs. Taft's request, the Superintendent of the Office of Public Buildings and Grounds, Colonel Spencer Cosby, U.S. Army, initiated the purchase of ninety Fugenzo Cherry Trees (Prunus serrulata "Fugenzo") from Hoopes Brothers and Thomas Co., West Chester, PA. The trees were planted along the Potomac River from the site of the Lincoln Memorial southward toward East Potomac Park. After planting, it was discovered that the trees were not named correctly. The trees were determined to be the cultivar Shirofugen (Prunus serrulata "Shirofugen") and have since disappeared.

Not really a ban. Troll broke the blog and the fix killed links. Supposedly a new  version is in the works which will fix everything.

88 It's the part about having to use tinyurl, Vic.  Makes it hard to post a link from my phone.  iPad is a little easier, but still a pain.

89 Still fighting my way through a Günter Grass novel about the reunification of Germany...the translation reads easy enough, but I have to stop every other paragraph to look up a geographical or historical or literary reference.

Only having a fourth-grade education sucks.

Posted by: HeatherRadish at March 12, 2012 08:29 AM (ZKzrr)

Grass went full retard on the reunification, no?  Although in his case it wasn't a far journey because he was a Nazi.  And a commie.  And a cocksucker.

90 The tinyurl thing is a guideline.  I posted a link to Mark Steyn's NRO article on Saturday just fine.  Long URLs are blocked, but not all.  I don't know that the max. no. of chars is.

I'm sure the Greeks had "students" to run other "students" off when they interrupted a favorite speaker in the amphitheater.  And Clan Leader Ooog had some trustee with a club boyz.

Here the Morons run off amateurs a few times a week and keep some as pets.  Except for one that bothers the ette's like a persistent bad smell.  And the real hard cases which pick amusing fights with Ace.

From a previous thread:

okay, so a few thoughts about what should go into the criteria to evaluate if a company is "conservative" or not:

1. donations to conservative PACs
2. donations to members of Congress, beyond just the ones on the particular committees that regulate their company
3. if they've been the target of left-wing smears
4. if they've made public statements supporting conservative causes

any others?

Posted by: chemjeff at March 11, 2012 03:20 PM (7FadD)

I like these criteria, and I think the info needed to find out which companies fit them is out there

but

if it's out there, it's really hard to find in a useful form.  Bits and pieces of info like this exist in lots of places - campaign donor records, for example - but to compile it would take some serious effort. Maybe a think tank (Heritage, Cato ...) or a publication (NR, Weekly Standard ...) or an advocacy group (Focus on the Family, Americans for Tax Reform ...) has compiled good info. I'll poke around some more.

Discover The Networks has some good info on corporate foundations that fund leftist causes - i.e., companies we would do well to avoid where possible. http://tinyurl.com/d43b7r Some usual suspects on that list (NYTimes, Ben&Jerry's, Ms Magazine), some I was surprised to see there (Target, SaraLee, Chevron, Allstate), and some I found infuriating because our tax dollars end up funding the foundations (Fannie/Freddie, PBS). They also show that leftist foundations are waaaay bigger and more numerous than their conservative counterparts.

And just fyi, leftists don't have much in the way of buy-your-politics resources like what we're looking for either. (I had thought to find a buy-leftist list and invert it, kind of like what Discover The Networks did for foundations.) The progs are much more into Alinsky-ite, personal destruction tactics - see Limbaugh, R. and Beck, G., for example - than they are into persistent wallet-based pressure.

I think this is an important task for us on the right to do. I think quite a few of us would like to vote with our wallets daily but don't know how to.  Gotta start starving the leftist beast.

More than half of Americans for the first time expect Barack Obama to be re-elected - but that won't make it easy: Even as expectations have moved his way, rising gas prices have dented the president's rating on handling the economy, his overall job approval has slipped back under 50 percent and he's reverted to a dead heat in public preferences against Mitt Romney.

The results of the latest ABC/Washington Post mark two political realities: One, the sharp division of public attitudes for and against Obama, with continued greater intensity of sentiment among his critics. And two, the damaging political effects of rising gasoline prices, which have surpassed the federal budget deficit as Obama's single weakest issue.

More hand wringing from the non-biased MFM over their hero's chances of re-election

That was why Dr Vince Cable decided that taxation should be shifted from income to assets. The idea was that, instead of putting off those actually delivering prosperity for the nation, the state would pounce upon the fruits of their labours. Hence the ‘mansion tax’ on their houses.

Yet, with the ‘tycoon tax’, Mr Clegg has suddenly reverted to a tax on income.

Such eleventh-hour incoherence has horrified his own party colleagues, with his proposal being deemed an ‘unworkable’ idea that ‘falls apart on close analysis’.

The Lib Dems have never been thought of as particularly grown-up politicians.

Indeed, since theirs is the party of permanent protest (whose accidental presence in government suggests that someone up above has a penchant for satire) they are identified with one infantile idea after another.

But once upon a time, at least their policy demands were clear. Now they appear to have descended into a state of feverish incoherence.

107 "A record number of Americans now give the president “strongly” negative reviews on the 2012 presidential campaignÂ’s most important issue: the economy.  Much of that is related to high gas prices, which the President stupidly thinks should be higher."

Oh no, citizen!  Nonononononono!  You are terribly misinformed (probably because you're a racist).  The truth is that President Obama has repeatedly said he's working as hard as possible to keep gas prices *down.*  D..O..W..N.  So your statement that he thinks gas prices should be higher is...racist!

You can't show us a single clip where he says gas prices should be higher.  Okay, maybe his Energy Secretary made some remark that the right-wing media twisted into "I think gas prices should be more like they are in Europe" or something.  But that's just the right-wing corporate media (FOX!!!) for you.

We strongly urge you to get your thinking right on this, or else you may find your internet access cut off.

In the interest of fairness, of course.

108 - "And a Mass Effect 3 review. I'm loving this game. "

@Gabe - Haven't touched this series, but have been thinking about it for XBox 360.

Do you recommend starting with the first one, or is 3 pretty standalone?

Posted by: goy at March 12, 2012 06:59 AM (6bwIq)

109 ME 3 is great except for the ending which throws away the choices you made.

110 Wow, he's REALLY gonna love the last 10 minutes of Mass Effect 3. EPIC. FAIL.

Posted by: Ranger 99 at March 12, 2012 09:19 AM (rxjs9)

111 Goy, Before the ending of ME3, I would definitely recommend a full play through from 1-3, as all the choices made in the first 2 effect the third. Choices in ME 1 affect ME2, etc. But now that I know what happens, I will never waste my time with the ME universe again. I am serious when I say it is not only the worst ending in video game history, it is the worst ending of any fictional narrative known to man. I almost threw my controller through the TV. Best way to describe the ending: imagine if the star wars trilogy had the end of 2001 grafted on to it. And everything from the first 2.9 movies became completely irrelevant. And there you go.....

113 Thanks Ranger. So what I hear you saying is that it's not nearly as satisfying as, say, the ending of Halo:ODST or CoD:MW (still re-playing those from time to time, and enjoying them).

114 Re: Mass Effect 3: There was a poll on whether the ending needed a rewrite on one of the Bioware sites. It was running 5635 to 107 in favor of changing the ending. There's a facecrook page about adding a new ending option, over 10,000 siggies in two days. Basically, in the end, you have no really different choices, and you do what you're told, and it makes no sense, and you don't really find out what happened other than a very short, vague cutscene. Basically just peed the entire series down their leg. Still not as bad as the story in FarCry 2, but I'd say ME3 is the second-worst ending in a game after that. Bioware has implied that they intend to end the series here, and they would have to seriously retcon everything to do another game.
