FEMA denies tornado aid ...
"...
Looking at the destruction in his southern Illinois town, Harrisburg Mayor Eric Gregg couldn't understand why federal officials turned down a plea to financially help local homeowners. Nearly a hundred homes are now piles of debris, destroyed by last month's deadly tornado.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency decided over the weekend that homeowners' insurance, local charities and state funds could cover those costs. The storm ripped through the town and surrounding Saline County on Feb. 29, destroying 98 homes and severely damaging 31 others. Seven people were killed..."
and again crickets...

The president likes to say that America is producing more oil than ever before, but thatÂ’s due entirely to shale oil (e.g., fracking) and oil sands. The boom in production from private sources is currently shielding the administration from the political consequences of taking such a huge amount of oil off the market

More gloom and doom:
Gone are the days when civilizations perished from vice. Today they go bankrupt for a surfeit of virtue. If the subprime mortgage crisis was rooted in the quest for affordable housing, the curtain now rises on a scene laid waste by the student debt bomb. The Washington Post’s headline reads: Student loans seen as potential ‘next debt bomb’ for U.S. economy.
...
Student loan debt is now $704 billion bigger than total US credit card debt. Families which believed they were investing in the future find themselves facing eviction tomorrow. Aged parents who cosigned loans are losing their homes to the childrenÂ’s unpaid educational debt. The educational debt crisis comes at a time when the President wants to keep kids in school longer and make a college degree the equivalent of a right. How is the public purse gong to resolve the contradiction between these two diametrically opposed goals? The answer is simple. The President, like a mighty Titan, will lend students money when nobody else will.
The Christian Science Monitor writes “President Obama has said he will help ease student loan debt, claiming he doesn’t even need Congress to do it. It seems the Education Department has the cash to back him up.” Which is just wow. Since when has the Department of Education had $704 billion dollars more funds that credit card debt without the authority of Congress?

Part of the dirty little secret about student loans is that people are 'going back to school' so they can qualify for the loans from the gubmint, but actually using the dough for living expenses.
Then of course the gubmint can forgive those loans if you work in 'community service' for a set period of time. It's a way to build another dependent class and that whole army of volunteers "just as well trained" as our military.

Only in Philly:
The most sought-after elected office in Philadelphia isn't mayor, City Council, sheriff, or state representative.
It's Traffic Court judge.
Thirteen candidates ran for one seat on the bench in 2011. In 2007, 15 people scrambled for three open spots.
The post does not require a law license, and none of the Traffic Court judges has one. It pays $89,000 and is likely a job for life.
To win requires support from the city's Democratic ward organization, money from the region's construction trades, and luck. Candidates who secure the top spot on the ballot - it is awarded by lottery - are almost guaranteed a seat on the bench.

I saw a show about booze on the History Channel that featured a restaurant that made its own rum. After bottling it, they had to sell it to the state, who then taxed it and sold it back to the restaurant. Stupid, right?
It looks like Pennsylvania has grown some smarts:
PITTSBURGH - A new state law allows small whiskey distilleries to give samples to visitors and sell bottles directly to the public, and that's big news for Wigle Whiskey.
The distillery, which opened Friday, is named after Philip Wigle, who burned down the home of a federal tax collector in the 1790s and helped lead the Whiskey Rebellion, a test of George Washington's presidency.
The rebels objected to one of the first federal taxes - on distilled spirits.
"We were Kentucky before Kentucky," said Eric Meyer, one of an extended clan that's trying to bring back a once-flourishing Pennsylvania tradition. Wigle is one of five active distilleries in the state.

SOMEONE WAS out to offend just about everyone in Chester County, it seems.
In an act that managed to be both unpatriotic and sacrilegious, an American flag was stolen from the West Grove Presbyterian Church, burned and left in a puddle sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning, State Police said.
The church, on West Evergreen Street in West Grove, has flown an American flag on its sign out front for quite some time, said church Pastor Charlie Gross, who noted that the flag was there when he came on board a year ago.
"This church is very patriotic," said Gross, who retired from the Delaware Air National Guard as a lieutenant colonel after 24 years of service.

From Wiki:
The Whiskey Rebellion, or Whiskey Insurrection, was a tax protest in the United States in 1789, during the presidency of George Washington. Farmers who sold their grain in the form of whiskey had to pay a new tax which they strongly resented. The tax was a part of treasury secretary Alexander Hamilton's program to pay off the national debt.
On the western frontier, protesters used violence and intimidation to prevent federal officials from collecting the tax. Resistance came to a climax in July 1794, when a U.S. marshal arrived in western Pennsylvania to serve writs to distillers who had not paid the excise. The alarm was raised, and more than 500 armed men attacked the fortified home of tax inspector General John Neville.

So it looks like The Whiskey Rebellion did start in Pennsylvania. I wonder where Vic thought where "the west" was in President Washington's time.

re: the alleged Afghan shooter
I do not believe it. Period. I do not believe this is an American. I do not believe there was a massacre at all.
The story started out that "someone" did it. Then "someone in an American uniform" did it. Then it was "An American" did it. Then it was "An American who had a brain injury" did it. Next thing you hear, it'll be a "Tea Party Activist" did it.
Remember Haditha? They strung up seven heroes over a massacre that never happened. Held them for years. If not for an inspired defense, they would have spent their lives in the brig over a big fat nothing-- in furtherance of the Democrats' goal of destroying Booooosh.
I smell a big rat-- the same rat I smelled at Haditha, at Abu Gharib, at Duke over the fake rape charges.
I want to go on record now and say that there is likely no truth to any of this, except the Revolutionary Truth, told by revolutionaries here and abroad, for the purpose of destroying the military and America.

From the WSJ:
One business story these days is how companies are crashing the debt markets to raise money at today's bargain rates. The same goes for the world's biggest borrower, Uncle Sam, which is also quietly benefitting from historically low interest rates that cannot last. The latter deserves more attention because the next President and Congress are likely to be stuck paying the bill when rates inevitably rise.
***
First, a couple facts: the U.S. Treasury currently has $10.7 trillion in outstanding publicly-held debt, and more than $8 trillion of it must be repaid within the next seven years. More than $5 trillion falls due within the next 36 months.

Regulation Nation: New study finds ObamaÂ’s regs cost $46 billion a year
Some 10,215 new federal regulations from the Obama administration are costing consumers, businesses and the economy overall $46 billion annually, more than five times the regulatory price tag of former President Bush in his first three years in office. Worse: just implementing those regulations had a one-time additional cost of $11 billion, according to a Heritage Foundation analysis provided to Washington Secrets.
Ironically, Bush instituted more regulations, 10,674, but they cost just $8.1 billion annually, said the Heritage report, titled “Red Tape Rising: Obama and Regulation at the Three Year Mark.” It will be released Tuesday.
The analysis backs ups complaints from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other business groups that the presidentÂ’s regulations are stalling the economy and employment growth.

A message from Verum Serum:
Moving On and I Hope YouÂ’ll Join Me
John on March 12, 2012 at 1:02 am
My friend Scott and I started Verum Serum back in 2005. I donÂ’t think we were completely sure why we were doing it or what we hoped to accomplish. We both liked the idea of having a voice in things. In the early days we didnÂ’t know anyone. I would write blind introductions to bloggers I liked. A few were kind enough to reply.
We also didnÂ’t have any readers. I remember early on being happy to get 100 hits in a day. It took us about a year to get our first 100K. And then things slowly started to pick up.
In 2008, I made a new friend (via the blog) who turned out to be one of the most talented bloggers IÂ’ve ever met. For around four years now, Morgen and I have been working to make VS not just another news blog but one that would really make a difference. IÂ’m proud of what weÂ’ve accomplished in that regard.
It was that success that led to a job offer which IÂ’ve accepted. Starting today, IÂ’m very pleased to say IÂ’ll be going to work for Breitbart.com. If youÂ’ve liked what I did here at VS, I hope youÂ’ll join me over there at Breitbart.com. (My twitter handle will remain the same, @verumserum, so thatÂ’s one little bit of continuity.) IÂ’ll still be writing about foreign affairs, media bias, and the occasional movie review, plus whatever else catches my attention. ItÂ’s going to be fun. ThereÂ’s nothing better than getting paid to do what you love.
VS itself wonÂ’t disappear. ThereÂ’s some real history here both political and personal. Over 8,600 posts and 32k comments which represent a lot of blood, sweat, and tears. (ItÂ’s hard to say how many unique visitors the site has had because we switched stat counters several times but itÂ’s around 5 million.) I find that pretty amazing considering where we started. But six and a half years later, itÂ’s time to move on. The blog will remain, but in a state of suspended animation.

It seems to me this is the simplest SCOAMF/MFM/dem media complex lie to debunk with conveniently the most broadly interested and attentive audience.
For this marxist liar to take credit for increased oil production, while doing all that he can to snuff it out, and promoting the fallacy that increased drilling isn't a solution, is a series of fat pitches right over the plate for any GOP candidate to smash over the fence.
The Holder F and F story IS important and compelling but more complicated far easier to cover up for the less aware.

Democrats pander to the middle class, all while democrat policies and their constant conveyer belt punitive regulation legislation push the average middle class family and individual --down and out.
With democrats, only the rich connected Jane Fonda types count.

Errr.. what??? His INTENT was plain. Because he's not able to get the job done we give him a lesser penalty? I don't see the justification for NOT having the death penalty.

Actually, Clinton should get very little credit. It took a Republican congress to get a balanced budget. Clinton was less of a d-bag than obie, but only because he was limited in what he could get done. I wish he'd spent MORE time with interns, and less time doing presidential work.
Also, the surplus was not entirely positive. Balance is fine, but for the government to hoard up the nation's wealth is just as bad as over-spending it.

Why haven't the Republicans even made a token noise about repealing it?
==============
IN 1996, the GOP nominee Bob Dole touted the passage of the ADA as one of his proudest achievements.
IN 2012, the GOP nominee will once again have as his greatest achievement the passage of a big-government solution to a non-existent problem that, upon implementation, is more expensive, more burdensome and more intrusive than the problem ever was.
Some things never change . . . .

On the western frontier,...
western Pennsylvania...
wonder where Vic thought where "the west" was in President Washington's time..
He was posting/speaking historically, Pittsburgh was still the western frontier then. The Alleghenies don't seem like a big deal driving a 200+ HP car on the Interstates. When an HP came from 1 horse hauling 1 wagon load of perishable low profit corn vs. a few jugs from da Burg to Philly was a big deal. There's remnant canals all over PA. They just finished re-cutting the Turnpike into longer gentler turns East of

7Cop tasers nine year old boy twice. Don't tase me bro he screams. But not to worry, I'm sure there is a lawyer in the wings out there ready to punish the tax payers of this small community.
Cop tasers 9 yr old, 5'8" 200-250 lb 'boy'.

Amazing what raising the price of gas 20% will do for retail sales isn't it?

The goals of bureaucrats are different from the goals of businesses, but yeah: their hiring managers found something useful about them and that's why they got the job. "Useful" could be their race, gender, or social connections ("Hey, my wife's nephew needs a job; I'll throw you an earmark.").
Whether or not the bureaucracies are useful/efficient/necessary, that's another thing.

NEW YORK (AP) The Commerce Department said Tuesday morning that retail sales rose 1.1 percent last month, the biggest gain in five months.
Some of the gain reflected higher gas prices1.1% = skyrocketing? Mostly due to higher gas prices. Try again.

"So... to get "revenge" on the US for a Soldier allegedly (yep, I'm on the side of "we need more facts") killing 16 civilians, the Taliban is killing Afghanis. Is it just me, or does that fail the logic test?"
That is totally logical if indeed you are the result of hundreds of years of Islamic inbreeding.

The HTML has been turned off completely no matter what browser you use. You can only get b-oldface, u-nderline, s-trike and i-talic by manually typing the code using [brackets] around the code letter. And don't forget your [[b]/close bracket either!]
If you want to hot link something, you can use your sock puppet's URL: "window" but it rejects YouTube videos, image file types and tinyurl links. Also, you'll have to type the http:// manually to make the link's URL hot linked.

I am regularly left wanting whenever The Blaze reports on anything military / technological in nature. The majority of what they report on with regards to U.S. acquisitions is given a tone of "too expensive, not good enough," while what they report on with regards to foreign acquistions are "oh man this thing is so awesome we won't stand a chance!"
And the comments do little to change this assessment.
It's a little....how shall I say....WND'y...
I'm at a point where I only read the headlines of Blaze stories, and if I want the rest of the story, will go find it on Drudge. "Doing my own research," as Glenn would say.
PS: Yes, the new fighter from China is a heap of fail.
