— Gabriel Malor Happy Thursday.
The NYTimes has no less than three separate Etch-a-Sketch stories in today's paper. One on the front page. One on A18. And one on D9.
Breaking news caveat applies: multiple French news Twitter accounts are saying the Islamist Toulouse killer is dead after police stormed the apartment. Killed while resisting arrest.
Bloomberg News reports that Obama's unnecessary approval for the southern leg of the Keystone XL project will not speed construction, which was already slated to begin in June.
The Daily Oklahoman---which, for those of you not from Oklahoma, could never be mistaken as GOP-leaning paper---slams Obama ahead of his "disingenuous" (x2!) "photo op."
NASA's MErcury Surface, Space Environment, GEochemistry, and Ranging (MESSENGER) spacecraft has detected signs of water ice buried at Mercury's poles. I suppose now folks are gonna want a Mercury base?

Quote:
The anger in the conference intensified after Rep. Don Manzullo (R-Ill.), a 10-term lawmaker, lost Tuesday in a GOP primary challenge from freshman Rep. Adam Kinzinger.
End
I'm not sure how this primary battle came out since they were both already in the House. It must have been another case of Democrat redistricting to eliminate Republicans in IL. But, look at this Manzullo had an ACU rating of 92 with 95 lifetime. Kinzinger has a rating of 72 one year. So leadership prefers the RINO. Who would have guessed. And yes, The Hill is gloating.

I'd like to see a candidate commit, on paper, to a set of goals during a campaign. It shouldn't be a problem for someone who's honest.
Which may be why we never, ever see anyone even proposing such a thing.

Exactly. Scottie Centerfold got in with much Tea Party support and he's been busy stabbing conservatives in the back ever since then. In Taxachussetts he might be the best we can hope for anyway in view of the fucking nutjobs that run against him. Palin isn't 100% correct on who she endorses anyway since she stumped for Juan McRINO in his primary battle 2 years ago.

Dagny, the stakes are way too high this time around. We certainly don't have our ideal candidate, but we'll get him elected anyway. Nothing less will do.
Now that Mittens is a virtual lock on the nomination, we can turn our attention to reinforcing the House and taking the Senate. We gotta find some good strong conservative nominees and start sending them money, bypassing the GOP party machine.
The 2010 midterms should have been a tune up. Don't forget how red the rest of the country went. A great many state legislatures went Pubbie.
This is the kind of movement we need to put pressure on Mitt. Since he's political Silly Putty, he'll do whatever the Congress pressures him to do.

I think it's pretty much a given that all the Mutt-bashers will depress the turnout in November, thus ensuring a second term for Osama Obama. From the all-Palin-all-the-time crowd at Tepid Air to the "Ooooh, teh Noot!" crowd and the fans of (Self)Righteous Rick, the hard-cores have so embittered themselves that they can't/won't see that there is a single issue far more important than which of the dimbulbs we're looking at gets the nomination.
That issue is, of course, the stuttering clusterfuck of a miserable traitor.
I've never understood people who focus on one candidate and elevate him to Messiah status. Not when the idiots on the Left do, not when the idiots on the Right do it. I never will understand.
My choice was Rick Perry. He's still my preference, racist rocks, dumb campaign and all. I will vote for The Mutt.
As my Daddy used to say: "When you have a choice between two bad candidates, pick the new one. It'll take him longer to mess things up."

Philly Owes $877k For Boy Scouts' Eviction Case
The city of Philadelphia must pay nearly $900,000 after a failed effort to evict the Boy Scouts of America over the scouts' ban on gays.
The city had threatened to evict scouts from their rent-free, city-owned headquarters for practicing discrimination. But a jury last year said the scouts have a right to free association.
...
The two sides have tried to reach a compromise during their 10-year legal fight.
But a deal fell apart, and a federal judge says Wednesday the city must pay $877,000 to Drinker, Biddle & Reath for the scouts' legal fees.

Romney isn't a hard-core conservative. That is true. He is a family guy with a great wife, more conservative than anyone in the Obama administration, knows finance, and will not embarrass us by bowing to Arabs or giving the Queen an iPod.
He WILL ok oil drilling and pipelines, strengthen the military, appoint decent Supreme Court justices, and generally act like a normal person in the White House.
So that is why I am backing him. The other two will not be able to mount an organization that can win, because they are bad stewards of their campaign money and have poor management skills. Newt is out of money and in debt. Santorum spent $100,000 in February on sweater vests to hand out to supporters who gave $100.
That is my reasoning, for what it's worth.
I don't know what to tell you to get you to see the wisdom of uniting now. I am not asking anyone to love Romney, just to realize that the other two are not going to be effective in November, and that the continued divisive primary is hurting us all.

They didn't bring in the GIGN of Gendarmerie Nationale. The RAID (Recherche Assistance Intervention Dissuasion) is the Natioanl Police version of the GIGN. The latter has tons of experience killing armed terrorists. Why the hell didn't they bring in the big dogs if the RAID guys were overwhelmed by one guy with an Uzi and an AK-47? Baloney. He's handling himself fine. Here's the situation:
Most of the people who voted for Obama can't admit that they were idiots and that the First Black President is a total failure. Being strident and calling Obama a socialist or dangerous or anti-American will backfire, because it'll force the people who voted for him to admit that they voted for an anti-American socialist, which they won't ever do. In case you haven't noticed, nobody admits they were wrong, ever. Not even to themselves.
So Romney persists in calling Obama a nice guy in over his head, giving the idiots who voted for him a way to save face by telling themselves that they took Obama at his word, but he just wasn't up to the task. Not their fault, and not really Obama's, either. Nice guy just didn't have it in him.
The people who supported Obama will give him until October to get his act together, and then the bottom will fall out for him, the way it did for Carter in 1980. Until the final week of the campaign, Carter and Reagan were neck and neck, or Carter was ahead. The race issue will protect Obama almost until the end, but it won't save him.
Guaranteed.

Who was it, yesterday, touting WWII carpet bombing as the "righteous" way to fight an enemy; destroy its civilian population? No. That was NOT deemed acceptable by Churchill or FDR, nor by the US Army Generals. America was losing over 30% of its Air Corp per flight over Germany because of preventable factors. Bomber day raids (for pin point accuracy to hit enemy military industrial targets, mechanically/visually incapable at night) with no fighters accompanying to protect our bombers from the Luftwaffe. As for avoiding civilian targets in bomber raids, all it took to forsake humanitarian concerns was Hitler's bombers to miss a target and hit a neighboring civilian population, and Churchill retracted his humanitarian dictum, advancing the bombing of Hamburg en mass killing of the city's civilian population, burned to death trying to escape the flames, bodies cooked together in the streets for survivors to witness and clean away. But Doolittle was ALWAYS against US bombing of civilian targets throughout the war, despite later orders when Brass patience wore thin, humanitarian war tactics having caused massive casualties and loss of aircraft. Whoever thought that Americans felt justified destroying Dresden's civilian population is not respecting the toll that it took on those who conducted that mission. It made those who did it ill.
We're stuck in a perpetually demoralizing cycle of violence without an end. Options are to remain with no sense, to conduct genocide as "the final solution" (totality of vanity), or to return home with a better national defense of our own borders and enforce/support/protect our own Constitution at home. GWB began these wars in Afghanistan and Iraq boasting of "pin point surgical accuracy" in delivery of destruction (later disclaiming his initial purposes: permanent US Military installations in Iraq and US oil contracts, making means to destroy Iran). Those of us who stood by our President amid all the hate trusted him to get it over with and bring our troops home. Those of us conservatives from the Vietnam Era knew better than to trust, but as ever, offered our prayers of hope supporting our troops who protect America and our Constitution. A decade later, whomever the Bush dynasty endorses as POTUS or Joint Chiefs or Secretary of the Treasury, etc., will not bring our troops home, but extend into perpetuity global conflict that benefits global financial industry and themselves with the Saudi Islamofacists at the bloody expense of the US taxpaying citizens, US Military, the US Constitution and of the rejected American concepts of Liberty and Peace. Nixon "ended" the Vietnam War by pulling out our troops; and today the US names Vietnam our trade ally. It's no secret what the globalists want from Afghanistan. Though the mountain tribal Muslims are not the Communist revolutionaries of IndoChina rejecting Western Colonial domination, the idea of bribing them into submission is still folly, and far too costly a folly.
--
The Washington Times, Rowan Scarborough:
Based on an exhaustive study of nearly 500,000 soldiers, reservists and veterans, the report finds that troops are more likely to commit suicide and violent sex offenses, and notes that as many as 236,000 suffered from PTSD since the beginning of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
For military analysts, the reason is the nightmarish experience of sustained combat: Soldiers have been fighting the longest war in U.S. history, with frequent stressful deployments and compressed rest time back home.
“The real issue here, which I’ve been tracking for a long time, is 10 years of combat,” said military analyst Robert Maginnis, a retired Army officer.
“I see these kids who have been in combat year after year after year. It is taking a real toll, not only medical, but being able to sort out their lives. What this kid caved to I think could be an epidemic. It is really long term what we are doing to a generation of volunteers.”

You do realize they have a plan?
It would be great if we had an opposition party that would mention these

So what's a little resource rich land really doing for us anyway?
Do you think the Dems/State Department/EPA/Greens would

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The number of Americans claiming new unemployment benefits dropped to a four-year low last week, offering further evidence the jobs market recovery was gaining traction.
Initial claims for state unemployment benefits fell 5,000 to a seasonally adjusted 348,000, the lowest level since February 2008, the Labor Department said on Thursday.
The prior week's figure was revised up to 353,000 from the previously reported 351,000.The economic golden age continues comrades. Never mentioned are those who have exhausted their benefits are no longer counted.

But taking the next step to using an unproven assertion that Obama is not legally allowed to give orders is just silly.

(Remember when he went to a base in Iraq and was photographed surrounded by fawning uniformed fangirls all carrying digital cameras? There was a thread here, we speculated they were given the cameras the same way doctor photo props get lab coats and children photo props get vegetables.)

Some blame President Barack Obama. Some just cite "the government," while others believe it's the work of big, greedy oil companies. No matter who is responsible, almost everyone seems to want the government to do something, even if people aren't sure what, exactly, it should or can do.
Oh my comrades, we just don't know who's to blame, unlike 4 years ago when it was all Bush/Cheney/Halliburton's fault. Now who can say but we need the all knowing government to fix it. And notice that it's "big, greedy" oil companies but not clusterfuck Obama

With one eye on the primaries, our main focus in this state is the recall effort on Governor Walker. I believe this election will be as crucial to the conservative movement as the presidential one. If anyone has the means to donate to support Scott Walker, please do so. This is the hill to die on. If we can defeat the unions here, we will have made huge step towards taking back this country and restoring some sense of sanity and fiscal responsibility. If they win, all bets are off.

Virginia Middle School Teacher Forces Students To Support Obama, Has Them Do Opposition Research on GOP CandidatesÂ…
A Virginia middle school teacher recently forced his students to support President Barack ObamaÂ’s re-election campaign by conducting opposition research in class against the Republican presidential candidates.
The 8th grade students, who attend Liberty Middle School in Fairfax County, were required to seek out the vulnerabilities of Republican presidential hopefuls and forward them to the Obama campaign.

I'm thinking of starting my own blog, a sort of aceofspadesHQ on hallucinogens affair. It could feature items like a suicide advice column penned by Dear Death ("Dear Death, my boyfriend said I am too fat and broke up with me. What should I do? - Love, Distraught Teenager; Dear Death replies, "Dear Distraught Teenager, slash your wrists!")
Other columnists could include Dead Voter (from Chicago, natch), railing against the GOP push to require dead voters to produce a death certificate ("How do we know this stiff is who he says he is?"), and Liberal Gay Conservative Pretender attempting to organize a chapter of Lincoln's Log Republicans.
(OK, maybe that last one is too over the top... good concept, but needs tweaking)
But what to call it? Twatch.com?

If you missed it: one of Romney's aides went on some TV show (CNN? not sure) and, when asked if Romney's "pandering to conservatives" (or similar wording- it is to laugh. If this campaign has been Romney running to the right, we're worse off than I thought) would hurt him in the General. Said aide responded that the campaign was "like an Etch-a-Sketch" and Romney would just ignore everything he'd said to secure the nomination.

Generally I use 90. But I also throw in a few other things to nab the people like Graham who game the system. Stuff like repeated stabs in the back by breaking the 60 vote blocks on filibusters. Also stuff like providing the one vote necessary to get liberal nominees out of the judiciary committee. And also, doing the vote trading scheme like Graham and McShitty do where when one is approaching an election the other does the "bad" votes for him so they can temporarily jack up their ratings and look better.
And BTW, below 50 I call them a DIABLO.

Of course it was. We were ridding ourselves of the effects of the multiple roadblocks to business enacted by Jim Doyle and his band of merry men - the worst anti-business administration we've ever seen. We're now communicated to businesses across the country that we have a different mindset, we are committed to bringing in private business instead of taxing and regulating them out of existence, and that we are no longer going to be held hostage by the teachers unions, and their slush funds.
It's working. And now so are we. Thank you Walker, Wisconsin Ranger.

What I know for sure is that it was a constant refrain from the Romney haters.
Names, please. Seriously, if it was a constant refrain from Romney haters that they would not vote for Romney if he is the nominee, then please provide a list of those who said that. I know there have been a few, though, frankly, who those are who said that escape me at the moment, but this accusation of "constant refrain" seems to me to be very much overstating the case. There are multides of us who have said that we will vote for Romney in much the same manner that we voted for McCain, ie drunk and/or while holding nose, but that is quite different than saying we will not vote for Romney at all.

Is that a quote? No. Is that the implication of "etch-a-sketch?" Yes.
Spin it how you want, PN, the fact is the aide's reason that Romney hadn't hurt himself with "moderates" (read: liberals- he was running a "moderate" campaign anyway) is that everything in the past could just be pooh-poohed away. That is: that even the fairly moderate (for a GOP Primary) positions Romney took would be moderated yet more.
Which doesn't actually surprise me in a man Liberal enough to be elected Governor of Massachusetts.

That whole story is overblown. All that happened was that a black olive fell off a leaning tower of pizza I had for lunch. The olive hit the table at the same time as the slice it was on fell and made a mess all over my shirt, proving gravity can be a bitch.

My problem with it is twofold- one: the soundbite. Which, as Gabe pointed out, made three separate stories in the "Fish-wrap of record," just today.
Two: We're told over and over how "gaff free" Romney has been, and the Romney supporters have (like clockwork) come out to try to explain how this, too, is not a gaff. It's getting old.
Case in point:
Posted by: polynikes at March 22, 2012 10:16 AM (MS4Pa)
No, PN, I never claimed to quote it. Sorry, old chum. And the actual quote doesn't make it better. What is there to "reset?" Are you saying that Romney has run as some Conservative Warrior, and now he needs to moderate his stance?
I understand completely what he was trying to say- "Run to the Base in the Primary, run to the Center in the General." Well, duh. He said it very, very poorly, especially since Romney never did "run to the base."

American-born al-Qaeda adviser Adam Gadahn counseled Osama bin Laden about how to handle an anniversary video for the 10th anniversary of 9/11. "Gadahn hated Fox News (“falls into the abyss”); he liked MSNBC but complained about the firing of Keith Olbermann." So much for "leaning forward."
Gadahn "had mixed feelings about CNN (better in Arabic than in English) and made flattering comments about CBS and ABC.

It does. And, I'll admit, I'd be much more willing to let it slide if the premise (that Romney had, somehow, run to the extreme right) had any validity. It doesn't.
My preferred answer (not that Romney or his aides could have given it with a straight face) would be something along the lines of, "No, I don't think Mssrs. Santorum or Gingrich can force Mr. Romney too far to the Right. I believe this country needs to be saved from the ultra-liberal policies pursued by the current administration. Certainly the tone we take in the General will be targeted to a more broad audience, but that's because we'll be playing to a more broad audience."

The Etch-a-Sketch remark just reinforces the meme that whatever Romney says is temporary, and subject to change. ....It doesn't help him, or us, since it's apparent now that he will be our nominee.
I'm still gobsmacked about the whole thing with the N'Orleans Saints. ....How come there's no talk of some felony charges there? ....Paying someone to whack somebody, that's like taking out a hit. ....If I did it, I would get arrested.

Because it (mandatory allegedly) happened during the game. There's some really interesting case law out there on distinguishing between assumed risks of contact sports and when that crosses the line into actual assault and battery. I vaguely recall at least one hockey player who was charged with aggravated assault for a hit in a game.

CHICAGO — It may be hard to imagine Rod Blagojevich looking anything but boyish in his trademark dark, helmet hair. But his longtime barber said Wednesday that the former Illinois governor has been dyeing his hair for years and now that he is in prison – where dyes are banned – it will soon turn gray.
Peter Vodovoz, Blagojevich's Chicago-area barber for two decades, told The Associated Press the 55-year-old has dyed his hair himself, but with no dye available at his lockup, the last color masking his gray will fade within three months.

383The usual suspects are getting more and more worked up about this shooting thing in FL.
You know if teh WH identifies hispanics as white in this case they would be narrowing their base. Most hispanics will readily identify themselves with whites over blacks in a instant thus causing the Demotards a more difficult time in harnessing their ethnicity to the party.

372.....claiming that Jeremy Shockey is "the snitch" .....an open invitation to hurt or kill Shockey. (Google "snitches get stitches" and weep for civilization).
I know. This is what we get, for so many years of glorifying the 'gangsta culture'. .....From glorifying the mafia mobsters, to the little street gangsters, we've got a population now that seems to view that crap as "cool".

He's that type of piece of shit. He's Michael Vick type of shit.
He's the guy that full-speed blind-sided an offensive lineman trotting down the field 40 yards from the ball after an interception "cause it was legal" and broke the guy's hip. Never apologized or anything afterward as far as I know, either.

Tami.....maybe Blago made that a part of his "no snitching deal" with team Barky. ....He gets 'supplied with hair dye during his time' in the slammer.

They're "free" under Obamacare as "preventative" procedures...unless the doc notices something amiss, then it's "diagnostic" and you pay rack rate.
(...and women have colons too, you know.)

Mine is to go so far right you can tell Pinochet's ghost "Maybe just deport them all to Cuba, it might take a little more gas but you'll look better in the history books"

City Council Warns ‘Crack Ho’ Comments ‘Intolerable’, Calls For Diversity In Talk Radio
Councilmember Jan Perry introduced legislation this week that would call upon media companies to ensure “on-air hosts do not use and promote racist and sexist slurs” on radio and other broadcasts.

Seriously, I would have fired the idiot yesterday. I heard his comments and he just sounds like an arrogant douchebag, who is so sure Romney has things sewed up, that he no longer feels the need to "pander" to conservatives who form the majority of the Republican electorate. Its hard to defend Romney's positions, which are shaky already, when he has morons on his staff making extremely ill advised comments like this..

Tebow wasn't brought in to challenge Sanchez, he was brought in for the Wildcat that Rex Ryan and Tony Sporano love, and have missed since Brad Smith left

Only the 1% can live in LA. The rest of us, the 99% sane people, avoid it like the plague. LA is going to be a real life Barter Town.2 men enter, 1 man leaves. We should post guards at their border to make sure no man leaves.

Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!
Oh checkmate Obama. You've thought of everything, haven't you.As preventative measures are concerned, I then demand that all liberal women be made sterile for the good of the world.

I don't think that comment is referencing Obama's lame diplomacy. Anyone who works with computers is familiar with the idea of a "reset button" getting your electronics back to a baseline working condition.
@ alex:
I think it's "meh" too, but we'll see if it grows legs. I understood it as, "we'll have a clean slate when we hit the general", rather than "we're fooling the conservative rubes and are then going to do a 180 in the general".
But communications is a two way thing, and so if the audience is determined to understand it in a certain way, well, dumb thing to say even if technically true.
Hey, it's like a rorschach test! You see what you already think of Romney in the aide's statement.
