3 LOL, go to the bathroom and the news thread is up when I get back:

Good Morning Morons. Today is FRIDAY, March 9, 2012.  On this day in 1933 Congress opened its session in what would later be called "The 100 Days".  They met daily with FDR who submitted his plans for turning the U.S. in to a Socialist Utopia and they gladly rubber stamped everything that he submitted.  The Supreme Court kicked some of it back, but he later resubmitted it after he replaced much of the court.  So we have a government created depression followed by a government created socialist economy that further sunk the U.S. into economic misery. So what in effect, started as an economic downturn was increased and extended for decades. We have never truly recovered the economy or the courts.

Posted by: Vic at March 09, 2012 02:34 AM (YdQQY)

4 And speaking of shitty economy, Congress, and the Government, last month we recorded the highest ever monthly deficit in history.  But not to worry, Boner will make a deal to cut spending.

13 So college girls want free birth control???  How about free prom dresses?  Yes, The Cinderella Project gives free prom dresses.  But who is fronting this extravaganza, the government?   No.  Would you believe a Lutheran Church?  This is the way it should be people.  Besides, proms have become like damn weddings, out of control expense.  While guys can go down and "rent a tux" girls are now expected to get their own dresses and outfits ranging from hundreds of dollars to thousands.  It is insane.

14 Both the Washington Post. Washington Examiner, and the NY Daily News say Romney is not doing well in the South.  This is what I have been saying all along.  But I will add this, he is not doing well with "conservatives" period.  In fact, like McShitty in 2008 he has ran away from conservatives.  His whole campaign has been like he was "inevitable" from the start and he needed to run toward the center (IOW move further left).  His strategy includes the I will win with a plurality as long as the not-Romney vote is split.  And do you know who his worst enemies are?  His supporters.  So Sanatarium and Noot will fight it out for the Southern votes.  Noot needs to drop out, but as long as super pac money is going into his personal accounts he will not.  And has NJcon said yesterday, we are f&*$%ked.  This is the Washington Examiner and NYC paper version. 19 And that's it for the doomy news 5this morning. One last thought.  When the unemployment numbers are released to day remember that it takes between 250K and 300K new jobs created to break even. If they are less than that then real unemployment went up, not down.

33 In the spirit of the Yglesias Amazon review bomb, I went and posted a review last night of the Derrick Bell book Obama assigned to his class. Just checked it and it's up, here it is for the Morons, I suggest others join in on the fun:

A Racist Obsessed With Race, March 8, 2012

No wonder he was so close with Baraka Obama, like Obama, Bell believes that racism is inherent in whites and saves and extra helping of scorn for Jews. A collection of rambling and incoherent racist thoughts, this book serves a useful purpose if ever in need of something to prop up a wobbly table.

46 Copied over from the now dead ONT:
I would gladly take Katy Perry if the offer is made. A DECON 4 treatment and a course of antibiotics and she should be thoroughly deBranded.

Of course, there is only one song of hers I can recognize. But the video had what I call a Ghostbusters moment. It starts off with a wedding scene and she is looking magnificent. When it comes the groom's turned to agree to the vows he locks up, as if he suddenly woke up and found himself there.

My feeling watching this was, if you find yourself at the altar with a woman like that, unless you have a serious fortune to defend, in the words of Winston Zedmore, "You say YES!"

I can look at my array of CDs and spot a fair number that might never have become classics for me if I'd been older when they first appeared. It's like that for a lot of content. A brand new novel can be really good but I doubt anything is going to affect me again like some of the greats when I was a kid. Roger Zelazny's Lord of Light is still an amazing book but all the more so for reaching me during my 'Golden Age of Science Fiction' as Damon Knight put it. I've read 'Dune' several time but nothing compares to that first time in my youth when I could actually a novel changed me a little as a person by making me think about some things for the first time.

A new work is going to have to be truly monumental to measure up against first hearing Sgt. Pepper or Dark Side of the Moon as a kid. Hell, when was the last album released that I feel compelled to only listen to in its entirety?

Posted by: epobirs at March 09, 2012 03:06 AM (kcfmt)

47 Yeah, nothing beats that first read on a good book. As for Dark Side of The Moon, if I am not mistaken that stayed on the top 100 album list for decades and may even still be on there now.

That shows where true greatness is.

Posted by: Vic at March 09, 2012 03:07 AM (YdQQY)

48 Her biggest problems now are no teeth to eat with and can not talk at all. Posted by: Vic at March 09, 2012 07:02 AM (YdQQY) You'd be surprised how well people can "gum" their food after their tissue heals. And after the radiation, she can have dentures made and or also consider implants.

Posted by: nevergiveup at March 09, 2012 03:08 AM (i6RpT)

49 And regarding one-hit wonders:
Yeah, there haven't been a lot of acts in the last decade or so that struck me as enduring hit makers. But sometimes one really good song marks a mark.

I've been watching this UK series William and Mary (2003-2006) and in the fourth episode a major plot revolves around a funeral for three teenagers who died together in a car crash and were known to both of the lead characters' children. (The whole series can be found in 12 minute chunks on YouTube. The funeral scene is Series 1, Episode 4, 4/4. http://tinyurl.com/7cnwjot )

I've never heard of this band Travis. Their song 'Why Does It Always Rain On Me' was apparent;y a hit in the UK but I'd never heard it before tonight. It made for a hell of a tearjerker. The small number of entries on Youtube and elsewhere suggests they peaked with that song but it's one I'll long remember in the context of that episode.

Yeah, the surgeon though has warned that we will have to give a lot of time for that healing. It will not do to have ANY gum sores created by poor fitting dentures.  He said they will not heal and will likely start exposing bone. This will be an after effect of that 7,000 R exposure.

I would guess as a further effect of the treatment.

A older friend had a tumor at the base of his skull that was successfully eradicated with directed radiation but it took a hell of a lot out of him and he is still recovering to an extent. It's been two years. It beats the hell out of death but it also makes you think long and hard about the price.

Posted by: epobirs at March 09, 2012 03:18 AM (kcfmt)

61 Israel is the only country in the Middle East that is safe for Christians, Israel's ambassador to the United States Michael Oren wrote in an op-ed column for the Wall Street Journal on Friday, comparing what he said was the suppression of Christian communities in Arab states to the twentieth-century expulsion of Jews from these nations. In his article, Oren cited the continuing violence against Egypt's Coptic Christians, the burning of Iraqi churches, a Saudi ban on Christian worship and the desecration of the Church of the Nativity in the West Bank as instances indicating a threat to Christianity in the Muslim world, adding that conversion "to Christianity is a capital offense in Iran, where last month Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani was sentenced to death." Amen

Posted by: epobirs at March 09, 2012 07:18 AM (kcfmt) Yeah but that's only during treatment. When the radiation is done and healing is "complete" and if there is enough bone, there is no contraindication to implants unless the patient is on certain medications

I don't bet the farm on anything that isn't here and now. (I'd never get hired by the current administration for energy policy.) But I don't rule out possibilities that have strong evidence lending hope.

I have a niece who is something of a miracle of medical science. The conditions of her premature birth combined with a serious defect would have doomed here just a few years earlier. She is twenty now and if she were born today they could handle her problems far better, affecting her whole life thereafter. It is still very likely that some of these advances will be applied to retroactively improve on some of the corrective measures.

A lot of the advances nowadays can be too subtle for casual observers to appreciate but they are happening.

As Vic mentioned, there is a angiogenesis problem. The blood supply to the tissues is damaged and new transport isn't growing to replace it. This is a common problem with radiation.

The formation of new blood vessels is a big research target, both  for regeneration and denying nourishment to tumors. There may be much that can be done to fix things down the road but in the meantime the tissue is too at risk for surgery.

No figure for annual "real world" power generation can be found. The total annual power creation for wind farms world wide is estimated to be 194 GW-h Palo Verde Arizona Reactor 1,2,3 generates 3,942 MW creates 29,250 GW-h per year on 4000 acres. Nuclear for the win!!

79 Derrick Bell’s Faces at the Bottom of the Well is a fascinating take on racial politics. But he saves his most flattering words for an anti-Semite who called Judaism a “gutter religion,” believes that H1N1 flu vaccine was created to depopulate the earth, supported racist monster Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, and received backing from Moammar Gadhafi: Louis Farrakhan. Here’s what Bell wrote about Farrakhan in his book: Smart and superarticulate, Minister Farrakhan is perhaps the best living example of a black man ready, willing and able to 'tell it like it is' regarding who is responsible for racism in this country …. every black person important enough to be interviewed is asked to condemn Minister Farrakhan--or any other truly outspoken black leader. No wonder black Harvard Law professor Randall Kennedy blasted Bell for “an egregious toleration of bigotry.” Even Henry Louis “Skip” Gates – a favored ally of President Obama, as we learned during the beer summit – denounced Bell for this, stating, “How can you call yourself an intellectual and not find anti-Semitism nauseating?” Our President's best buddy?

82 1. when it comes to our government telling us that being forced to buy health insurance for being alive is no different than them telling us we have to buy car insurance

2. opponents of the idea point out that you don't have to buy car insurance if you don't own a car

3. government and progressives say "shut up - like no one owns a car" and then they trot out this argument again later on down the way

4. energy secretary says he does not own a car . . . I wonder if he has car insurance? if he does, but no car, then that would be this administration leading by example, but I bet he has no car insurance

I don't think tooth decay lends itself to a vaccine. Caries is only part of the problem. As I recall reading, it is far too diverse and varied an organism to ever expect to produce any lasting immunity to the entire range.

Regenerative medicine is a whole other issue. Teeth are regarded as good early targets compared to a lot of other organs. As I mentioned, it's actually been done in rats. They have established that they can generate a new organ that would never have done so in natural conditions.

It isn't going to put any dentist out of business. Getting a new set of teeth would probably be very unpleasant over a long period of time and taking good care of the OEM set a preferable approach for as long as they last.

91 The United States faces a brewing battle over who will lead the World Bank as one of its reported candidates ruled the job out and insurgent candidate Jeffrey Sachs won developing country support. With the March 23 deadline looming for nominations to succeed president Robert Zoellick, Washington -- which has always put an American at the helm -- had narrowed the field to three, according to a source close to the Bank. The administration of President Barack Obama is considering US Senator John Kerry, United Nations ambassador Susan Rice and economist Lawrence Summers, the source said. As bad as obama's choices are ( and bad they are ) this Sachs guy is a UN insider.

112 Daily Caller has a story about how Rick Santorum got his 2-million dollar estate in Virginia.  Brit Hume put the link up last night.

http://tinyurl.com/76sbgsz

Santorum is free to spend his money,  and no problem with that.  However,  the "poor me,  I have no money like Mitt Romney" act is just what Ron Paul said it was:  FAKE.

He bought this huge house (with giant swimming pool) AFTER he left the Senate.

At least Romney doesn't hide his wealth.  Santorum is acting like he and his family live in a 3-bedroom tract house in some hardscrabble neighborhood.

Further views of the house on Creamcup Lane in Great Falls,  Virginia can be seen here:

191 Employers added 227,000 jobs to their payrolls last month, the Labor Department said on Friday, while the unemployment rate held at a three-year low of 8.3 percent. How many people dropped out of the jobs market to keep the unemployment rate from going even higher than the disastrously horrific 8.3% (Really closer to 20%) rate that is giving you such a boner, Greg?

Posted by: CoolCzech at March 09, 2012 04:55 AM (Iaxlk)

192 "And the BLS continues to lie for its political masters. The UE rate stays unchanged at 8.3% with just 227K jobs added. The only possible explanation is fewer people in the pool." Actually, it's the opposite. With so many new jobs added, the only way the unemployment rate doesn't go down if many more people go back to looking for work. And people try to go back into the workforce when they feel that the economy is improving. And when do the high gas prices start to hurt Obama? NEVER. If they haven't yet, it's not going to happen.

Barry doesn't need a re-election committee he's got the MFM to do it for him. And if the best they could massage those numbers is that it stayed the same then it must have moved up like Gallup had it

Greg, try to understand the math. It's not complicated. If the total pool of employable people is being shrunk by the manipulation of the data, of course any growth in employment will look positive. But the country is growing faster than the jobs, so real unemployment is increasing.

Can you follow this explanation? If not, ask the student aide in the back of the computer lab for help.

Better yet, ask after nap time; you will be refreshed and eager to learn.

248 Funny topic, foreclosed churches.  Timely too.  I sat in on a meeting only yesterday and the big issue was "We need to borrow $4 million for the new church, but we can only afford $2 million."

I need to email that article to some folks.

267 Regardless of what the government reports, Gallup's unemployment and underemployment measures show a substantial deterioration since mid-January. In this context, the increase in unemployment as measured by Gallup may, at least partly, reflect growth in the workforce, as more Americans who had given up looking for work become slightly more optimistic and start looking for work again. So while there may be positive signs, the reality is that more Americans are looking for work now than were doing so just six weeks ago.

Gallup nailed it, whereas Greg just sucks choad for a living.

Renting a tux is EXPENSIVE. Remember what is used to cost? Well, not so much anymore. Just the cummerbund and tie are $80. I bought both boys tuxes at Syms. I had to rush to get the second kid his tux there before it went out of business. You could buy one there for less than the rental. First boy, because he owned his own tux, became a prom whore. His senior year he went to 6 proms only one of which was "his" where he had to pay. 2nd boy's tux is hanging unaltered in the closet waiting for prom. $75.

Portions of the bulb would have to be made in the United States. Now the winning bulb is on the market. The price is $50. Retailers said the bulb, made by Philips, is likely to be too pricey to have broad appeal. Similar LED bulbs are less than half the cost. Oh yeah I'm running out to buy 100 of them.

Tell me about it!   My sister's wedding was as small as can be -- just the immediate families        and my sister's best friend in attendance -- and she DEMANDED we keep it on the cheap.   She bought her wedding dress at a clearance      sale at David's Bridal     for $99   (gorgeous dress, too).       We made all the decorations ourselves.  Her friend's fiance took the wedding photos.   I bought my bridesmaid gown off a clearance rack at JC Penney for $24!   It was AWESOME.  It was really just an Easter dress, but it was the perfect color.  And then I found a pair of matching shoes at Payless (also left over from Easter) for a grand total of THREE DOLLARS.

Every time either she or I got a really good deal on something we'd share it and squeal: "Oh my gosh, I found the perfect shoes, and they      were only three dollars!"

"No way!   LUCKY!"

Spending thousands of dollars on a wedding was just... anathema.    Maybe it's because we're cheap yankees?

365 From Vic's link.

The authors therefore concluded that “what we call ‘after-birth abortion’ (killing a newborn) should be permissible in all the cases where abortion is, including cases where the newborn is not disabled”.

They also argued that parents should be able to have the baby killed if it turned out to be disabled without their knowing before birth, for example citing that “only the 64 per cent of Down’s syndrome cases” in Europe are diagnosed by prenatal testing.

Once such children were born there was “no choice for the parents but to keep the child”, they wrote.

“To bring up such children might be an unbearable burden on the family and on society as a whole, when the state economically provides for their care.”

Well the lefties have their panties in a bunch and are going to protest. Well I had to laugh when their >350 female spokesperson came on the screen to talk about starvation. She also had this to say:

<<"She says she works part time jobs, seasonal jobs, any job she can--but she still needs help to feed her three sons. "Without that we wouldn't be able to make it."

Seems to me if she just shared a little food with the kids they'd be just fine. Oh and looking up who she is I found she's an activist so all that working is just BS

370 I hope the Obama administration keeps faking the unemployment numbers.

Like many who deal with the "wishing makes it so" democrat party,  they think that unemployment numbers are a cause of presidential popularity/unpopularity.  So they manipulate the numbers thinking it will magically make Obama popular.

In actuality,  those numbers (when not manipulated) are a reflection[/] of what's going on in the real world.  If you manipulate the numbers, the same people are still out of work and unhappy.

And most of those unemployed people are NOT reading the fake numbers,  because they cannot afford newspapers or internet.  They are going to libraries to use the computers or read newspapers for job ads.  They do not have time to sit there and read news stories.

So  let them fudge the numbers while the ranks of the unemployed grow.  The voters will vote on THEIR particular lives,  not on some fake number in a headline.

There is no good reason for it. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 3,979,563, an increase of 97,038 from the preceding week.

I could care less if those teens get out there and have 4 kids before age 20. The more the better. The more anglo the even better. We're also in a demographic battle. The UK is all but doomed on that front. Russia is as well.

Happy birthday, Vic!

PICES:

Everywhere you go, laughter and comedy ensue. This would be great if you were trying to be funny. You are deeply confused by the idea of sex. As far as you are concerned, if it didn't happen in "The Velveteen Rabbit", it doesn't exist. Piscean women wear long floaty dresses and enormous amounts of unusual silver jewelry. On hikes. Pisceans claim to love the stars, but the only constellation they can find is the Big Dipper. If they cannot find it, they cry. You remember what you were wearing on March 3rd, 1981 but forget your own address. You have no sense of direction. The people you find going in reverse at 70 m.p.h. on the expressway are usually Pisceans. Pisceans are most likely to die by falling out of a window or getting run over by a truck. That is, of course, unless they live with a Cancer. Pisceans are so zoned and perpetually endangered that they can bring out the maternal instincts of a Leo. Don't be fooled, however; many Pisceans can surprise you by kicking your ass and the asses of your four imaginary friends. While Leos tend to achieve the most fame in the field of entertainment, Pisceans strive to achieve historical greatness by sheer fluke. They are proud to tell you that Michelangelo, Galileo, George Washington, and Albert Einstein, none of whom had an agent, were all Pisceans. What they won't tell you is that so is Ted Kennedy. Pisceans claim to want "honest criticism" of their work. Then they commit hara-kiri on the floor when you say you don't like it. Never try to use logic with a Pisces; he or she is living about three feet off of the natural ground or in Narnia. Their tools of debate are non-sequiturs, quotes from Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and, of course, crying. It wouldn't matter what linguistic devices Pisceans use to describe philosophical concepts because they aren't positive they know what they're talking about anyway. You cry over dead animals in the road but feel no remorse about mowing down humans you don't like. Cancerians say one thing and do another. Scorpios say one thing and do it just for spite. Pisceans say far too much and do whatever the hell they want.

You might do a search for chinese capacitors. Most electronic device failures in the last five years can be traced to the use of  counterfeit chinese-made capacitors. Our  beloved government has known about this problem for years but has failed to do anything to protect consumers or our military from this worthless chinese shit.

I  believe  Dell  is  being  sued  because  they  continued  to  use  chink  caps  in  their  products  after  they  were  aware  of  the  problem.

Get  an  external  hard drive  and  copy  your  files.  Get  Truecrypt  and  use it  so  the repair tech  can't  access your goat porn.

Goodfellow to lose more jobs

The defense of the United States is an enumerated power of the Federal Government. Protecting Europe, and various Islamic uprisings in the middle east, is not. Neither is seizing earnings from one person to give to another. We're cutting defense spending, while putting even more people on the government dole, riding on the backs of the productive.

And it's horsesqueeze.

They're called tile probes. They come in fiberglass, too. They're real back-breakers and don't work well in stony soil.

#436 I think that is one reason why the transcripts are being held under lock amd key.  I've also guessed that Obama never actually took a class in constitutional law, yet somehow the U. of Chicago allowed him to teach it.  Would also be hilarious to see him pulling a B- in all his classes but Bell giving him an A.

I guessed right yesterday that Obama taught Bell's CRT garbage in his UC classes.  I think I know where this whole thing is heading.  I hope it doesn;t stop with Derrick Bell.  I think we will see another appearance by Bill Ayers, and in a way that is going to surprise and shock some people.   If I can connect the dots I'm sure the smart guys at Breitbart have too.

Great piece by Dan Riehl at Breitbart with more analysis of the Derrick Bell stuff and why it is important.  CRT followers believe the Constitution is racist and illegitimate, and therefore we ow it no defernce.  This makes what Obama is doing to constantly circumvent the Constitution, e.g. declaring himself the aribter of when Congress is in session, totally understandable.  Obama wanted Richard Cordray in the CFPB because the new powers of that agency were important to his "social justice" agenda, i.e. hammering every lender who ever made a loan to a black person that ended up in default.

I can give you chapter and verse about what HUD and the Justice Department are doing to shred the Fair Housing Act and enforce a "disparate impact" standard for housing and lending discrimination that is nowhere to be found in that Act.  They bullied the City of Saint Paul into dropping a Supreme Court challenge on the issue that almost certainly would have ended up with SCOTUS slapping down this entire area of jurisprudence.  If they really get cranked up with disparate impact cases in housing and mortgage lending, it is going to be tantamout to a reparations program.

I have an idea for a great, huge public works project that'll get America working again.  And, as an extra added bonus, it'll obviate the need for a few high-speed trains in certain parts of America.

I don't have the details yet because I just thought of it, but:

let's build a canal system to connect the Colorado River to the Mississippi River!

That's all I've got right now.

435 So the dems are taking the CNN remarks from Sarah Palin to mean that she's going to get into the race at the convention?   Guess it will be a big match up between Jeb and Sarah?

What exactly goes on at a "brokered convention".  Heard a guy on the radio say yesterday there have been 4 brokered conventions in modern history and the candidate, dem or republican, has lost each time.  He didn't say whether any of the party in questions candidates would have lost regardless of the brokered convention since that doesn't fit the "message" they want to send.  Those MSM folks are uber smart.

441 #452 A brokered convention happens when no candidate arrives at the convention with enough delegates to win the nomination on the first ballot and no candidates agree to drop out and send their delegates to one of the others.  The result can be either a "brokering" of the delegates pledged to the weaker candidates to the strongest one, in return for something - the VP nomination, platform positions, etc. so that the strongest one gains a majority; or an entirely new candidate (or candidates) coming in and being nominated from the floor on the second ballot, where most delegates are free to vote however they want.
