The arrest of GZ is a blatant attempt at a  distraction by this administration to deflect away from the horrible economy. It's also a great excuse to start a race war, as evidenced by the  language coming from the NBPP, which no one in a position of responsibility wants to touch, even though they've violated a number of state and federal laws by issuing a "Dead or Alive" bounty on GZ.  Does anyone else  find it strange that the city of Sanford, Seminole county and the State's prosecutors'  offices haven't charged GZ with anything for over a month?

Then Eric Holder rubs the nation's nose in it by praising Al Not-So-Sharpton yesterday. If I didn't know any better,   I'd  say we're seeing a race war created by the White House as a reason to impose that   shiney, new EO that the SCOAMF signed a couple of weeks ago.

And I'm not saying I know any  better.  This whole situation is beginning to smell like the Chicago Way.  We're  being set up for a revolution.

He was originally sentenced to death but the sentence was commuted to life after the stupid CA Supreme Court vacated the death penalty (it has been reinstated now).

IIRC they had a choice of making it w/o parole or normal life and they made it normal life. But the board is still not going to parole him ever.  

They refused to parole the other scrunt even when she was dieing of cancer so they are not going to parole him.

Indeed.  Though for me, the cost (while abhorent) is a bit secondary.  The core principle of justice has got to be a balancing of the scales.  While we are not to carry out eye-for-an-eye justice as private citizens, it is the only reasonable form the justice system, administered by the state, can take.  The only way to pay for a life wrongly taken is with a life.  And intent has to matter as well - if you TRY to take life, but fail, your incompetence or bad luck should not excuse you from the penalty your success would have earned.

I should be able to go about my life without dealing out private justice, because the apparatus of the state should do that for me.  But now that doesn't happen like it is supposed to.  Now it's all about excusing crime, or trying to justify it, or saying "Oh that poor disadvantaged person!"  And no matter what the libtards claim, that is not true compassion.  Once "mercy" is the norm, it is no longer mercy.

I'll bet that usually works, unfortunately.  "I've reformed!" they say.  Of course, the stats bear out that hardly anyone is reformed by prison after they've crossed a certain line.

Personally, I think long term imprisonment is folly anyway.  It's crime college.  If it were me, every serious crime would get one of the following:  Death (by hanging or firing squad), public corporal punishment (the lash, the stocks, etc), or a fine of triple the $ stolen/defrauded (or if destitute, indentured servitude).  Sometimes there might be a combo.  What more do we really need?

Yesterday there were some pretty optimistic comments about how the SP would act in the GZ case. Unfortunately, it turns out she is as cravenly opportunistic as one Mike Nifong. Or maybe just afraid of being killed.

I do hope she ends up with the same CV as Mr. Nifong.

2010 elections I sat up and watched the returns in some prince william precincts ALL NIGHT. I was interested that Fimian win (boring and uninspiring but not) against the liberal lying piece of shit Connolley. Things were very neck and neck until the very wee hours around 4 when a couple of the heavily black precincts came in after everyone else with just enough votes to win. Holder has "released" Prince William Co. because he had his mechanism in place for future Derrick Bell theory compliant voter fraud. It's not that Prince William itself matters, it's that it is part of the district drawn so that the congressional district is competitive. Not anymore.

The MFM has distorted this story with abandon since day one, beginning with the publication of an old pic of TM as an innocent child, not the thug he looked like at age 17. The very next thing they did was mistakenly portray GZ as white when he's clearly Hispanic.

Since this is happening right up the road from me, I'll share one little tidbit that the media continues to ignore. The son of the Sanford police chief assaulted a black man one night a few  months ago, right in front of the  little bar  where I once regularly played. Just walked  right up to the guy and coldcocked him for no reason: there was no confrontation, no words exchanged or anything. This was captured on video by a friend of mine who was at the bar when it happened.

This was an outrage, albeit a small one that didn't receive much attention.  Most of the folk I know wanted the PC's son  behind bars, regardless of their color. A couple of rallies were held and  many in the Sanford area denounced the attack, among them was GZ. He also has mentored many disadvantaged children of color in the area for years.

But did you notice the Idiot Bloomberg mention any of this in his presser? Nope. All we heard was that GZ was a  "violent man with a criminal history."

This shit is being concocted just as surely as the sun rose this morning. On   purpose.

I thought you already left asshole.  In MD we give drivers licenses with no paperwork.  Trust me, the majority of these folks are illegal.  I've been in car accidents where the other driver is at fault, a hispanic (white or otherwise) with no drivers license, no visa, no english and the police will not check immigration status.  We are being overrun with illegals.  Now go to your gloryhole and make some money.

This.   Federal race categories classify "Hispanic" as a separate ethnicity.   If you label yourself as "white"  but your ethnicity as "hispanic," you are only counted as a hispanic, not a white person.  Likewise if you label yourself black, asian, Pacific Islander, etc, with     hispanic ethnicity.

Everybody has their own situation and how they react to it but Mrs H and I didn't feel comfortable with putting our children in daycare; so we took the financial hit and she left her job (well not completely; she worked part-time) until they went to school.  I'm sure there are some very good people working at daycare but I just couldn't see them providing the same level of attention to our children that they got at home.

Police said that Meidinger was cut pretty badly and taken to the hospital. Later, he posted a picture someone had taken of his alleged attacker to Twitter, offering $500 for information.

MeidingerÂ’s story found traction online and within days, officers had identified the woman. If and when police take her into custody, she could be charged with aggravated assault, as police consider high-heeled stiletto shoes to be weapons.

Then he wasn't actually brain dead.  "Brain death" is a horribly misused term. Misused by people in the profession too! To be "Brain Dead" legally (and for the purposes of organ donation) you have to have no activity in your brain including the brain stem.  The brain stem controls breathing, so if it's gone, there's no resperation (there may be some residual heart beating for a few minutes because that sucker can keep going even after you take it out of the body.)

To many people use it to refer to "Higher Brain death" which is everything but the brain stem (so you'll still breath but your basically gone.)  That's not dead, and they can't take organs.

OT, but one of the ads I keep getting on this site is for Warby Parker eyewear, and every fricking time I see it I think the model they've got showing off their hipster glasses is Harry Potter.   Am i alone?

I have no idea why I keep getting eyewear ads, btw.  I haven't shopped for glasses in four years.

Well to be clear that's the passage found all over the Conservative sect book I was working on at the time.  I think "the torah" was a catchy way of saying "the laws."  Or at least that's the implication the author gave.  Orthodox is a bit more strict in that from my understanding, but still the duty to preserve life is very very high.

So what happened to the rest of the dough? The top 10%, 1% and 0.1% grabbed all the money. Or pretty much most of it. Time to crank up taxes on the rich and spend more on the middle class. ItÂ’s not overstating things to say that the findings of Piketty and Saez form the very heart of Obamanomics, giving a powerful economic rationale for Obama policies such as ending the upper-end Bush tax cuts to Obamacare to the Buffett Rule.

But it’s just not true, according to a new study in National Tax Journal from researchers at Cornell University. (Here’s an earlier, working-paper version.) The academics, led by economist Richard Burkhauser, don’t say the findings of Piketty and Saez are wrong — just incredibly, massively incomplete. According to the Cornell study, median household income – properly measured – rose 36.7%, not 3.2% like Piketty and Saez argue. That’s a big miss.

How long ago was this?  The so called Harvard Criteria have been working very very well since the late 60s/early 70s, I'm floored. (especially since part of the Harvard Criteria has a ventilator removal test.)

Now days they tend to do blood flow testing, if no blood in the brain, you're brain dead.  Seems fairly reasonable.  This just sounds like someone wasn't watching the tests close enough.  . In any case, that's a bit crazy because once they removed the vent that should have superceded the diagnosis meaning he wasn't actually legally dead. I'm sorry you had to go through that

Update: Democrats were quick to insist that Rosen has no role at the White House, but Jim Gerahty reports that the rebuttal seems to be more of an issue of semantics:

Which would have been fine had they not interpreted her living will request of not having extraordinary means of prolonging her life as meaning she didn't want a feeding tube, even though she was still frigging conscious and talking and completely aware of what was going on.

When the BFF was dying I let her know that I would not remove nutrition or water from her.  I would not demand that a feeding tube be inserted either, but, if it was, then I wouldn't remove it.  Fortunately (for certain definitions of fortune), she pretty much went from reasonably coherent to passing away within about 72 hours and it was only the last 10 hours or so that she was unable to swallow on her own so it never became an issue.

I made sure that my parents were very clear in their living wills as to what they want re: nutrition.   That's a good reminder for the Horde, be very sure you understand how your state/province/whatever interprets what you have listed.

Now then, I live in Missouri where the Cruzan case made it impossible to remove a feeding tube once it goes in, I don't think I want one within feet of me at any cost.

I personally think that varies based on the situation at hand.  Any intervention is ordinary/extrordinary based on the specifically conditions at hand. (That language by the way has largely been replaced by "proportionate/disproportionate" since "ordinary" tends to trip people up as implying "routine")

I've been a Donor on my DL for years.  I'll really be surprised if they find  anything they can use.  Two heart attacks, a hard place where my liver once was, cataracts and general use and abuse over the  years...I sure won't be needing anything.

Let's at least give the Texas law it's fair due.  There must be a "futility" judgement by 2 doctors, an ethics board convinened and then you have 10 days to find another facility that will take the patient.  I've got friends whove worked under that law, it's very very rarely used. Docs don't want to invoke it.  Many hospitals are building in such policies because there's no other way to handle the fact that sometimes medical treatment is actually contraindicated but in our litigious society you may be compelled to give it. (There are cases on record of demanding blood transfusions for patients with large wounds that can't be surgically repaired.  Blood goes in and imediately right back out again.)

Again though sufficient communication could fix most of these problems.

One of the ugliest old ballparks was Shea Stadium, but the place was such a monument to Murphy's Law that it gave it character. Part of the excitement was feeling the stands shake up and down a good 6 feet when the crowd was going wild.

Old Cleveland Stadium. You couldn't use the bathrooms after about the fourth inning of Indians games without facing Adventures In Plumbing, there was a better than even chance that you would be carried off by a swarm of gnats bigger than your head and it had a certain eau de stadium to it. On the other hand, you pretty much had your own personal beer vendor for the entire game.

The Obama administration has snubbed a congressional subpoena in the investigation of a White House “drafting error” that suggested certain experts supported their decision to temporarily ban oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.

Drafting error?  Drafting error?  IIRC, the judge wanted to go after the law licenses of the attorneys who filed those briefs due to lying to the court.  Always remember Rule Number One, kids, never piss off the judge.

Geraghty was awesome on Twitter last night.  Right off the bat he tweeted that we don't need any class-warfare comments on Ann Romney from the people who wanted Teresa Heinz-Kerry to be First Lady.  Then he tweeted about Rosen's million-dollar salary at RIAA - she was once the second-highest-paid industry lobbyist in DC. 

I can't even get started on the whole stay at home moms don't count as real women thing.  There is not enough rage in the world to adequately express my response to that position.
