Yesterday's election had nothing to do with the recall. Recall primary to determine the Democratic challenger is May 8, with the recall itself being June 5th. It turned out that NO didn't really have an evacuation plan. Relying on everyone to just get in their cars and drive away is not a plan.

I was frankly a little surprised at the large turnout myself. We have some election fatigue going on here in Wisconsin. It seems we have a recall or special election happening here every couple of months. First the Judge Prosser thing, then the recall elections for the flee-baggers over the state budget reform bill, now the Walker recalls coming up, and there is now yet another recall election in the works for legislators who voted down the mining bill. We are being re-called to death. I do think it is a good sign for Walker that the Republicans in this state seem to still soldier on, in spite of it all.
When they say Wisconsin is a battleground state, they aren't kidding. It is a battle day after day, election after election here, with no relief in sight unless we can amend our recall laws and limit them to criminal activity rather than just "we lost but we'll just try and re-vote you out anyway."

I'm not putting too much stock into this Dems turned out for Santorum thing. Dane County (Madison Moonbats) went Romney. Here's a map of Wisconsin county by county. You can see which areas went Romney and which went Santorum.

The problem with the best placed windmills is that no one wants to live there. They're almost all in very windy desert areas. Very windy desert areas (besides being hot and dry) often have sand storms.
Case in point: the areas of Taylor and Calahan counties in TX have several windfarms. They don't have very many people though. So the windmills are quite efficient, and generate (on most days- but even in West Texas, the wind doesn't always blow) more than enough electricity for a much bigger area. Unfortunately, since few people live there, and it's so far from places where people do live, there's no practical way to get the energy from over there- where it isn't needed- to over here- where it is.

Lucky me. I was Juror No. 1. I sat in the courtroom all day. The thug defendant had shot a fellow thug and there were some six witnesses to the killing.
The prosecutor loved me (I had a friend who had been murdered many years ago). At the end of the long, long day the defense attorney excused me (yay).
The last time I was in the pool, we were preparing to go in the courtroom, when the judge came in and announced that the lone witness to another thug killin' had a sudden case of amnesia and the defendant was going to walk.

Fair enough, I'm just learning to be cautious with my phrasing of anything! I'm amazed by how often (in the same conversation) it's stripped of it's context, manipulated and returned back for me to defend. Obviously there are about 100,000 Logical fallicies when that happens (on my opponent's part) but it still scores points with the audience.
The Context of the actual discussion I was reference was much more...concerning...for various reasons. But the sum of it was "People just need to shut up and accept what [Government Panel about Issue X] says, we're the learned ones." I commented about the silliness of that (prima facie) and was suddenly met with the "But you support nuclear power?" question (which by the way was an obvious, but correct, stereotype.) I sussed out the difference between "proper informing of [the public]" and "dictates from on high." saw that twisted again and spent the rest of the conversation on the defensive for reasons I still don't understand.

I have a concern, although it is not so much about the removal of the natural gas from the ground, but the storage via "injection well" of the byproduct water used in the fracking process. This stuff is called "salt water," but there's a lot more stuff in that water than salt. It ain't ocean water. And apparently proper disposal of it is a bit of a dilemma.
There needs to be a better solution for how to deal with the byproduct than simply dumping it into an underground cavern and walking away.

I'm all for fracking for natural gas and oil. The local natural gas boom has lowered natural gas prices significantly, and we use it to cook and heat our house.
But Willard's local appearance in support of fracking is a tin-eared, unforced error.

In the next couple of months gas will decline to about $3.50/gal national average.
The media will celebrate and say how wonderful and cheap gas is. They will also give credit to Obama for keeping gas under $4/gal.
Unfortunately it will work on a lot of people because they'll be grateful that gas is $3.50 instead of $4.50.
Which is why the Republicans need to be exploiting the political shit outta the gas issue now while prices are rising and people are angry.

It probably will go down in price, but the damage from being this high will just be hitting the economy in about July. There's a lot of people right now living on a maxed budget, and paying the exta $1100 in gas a year will put it over the edge. And it isn't just the gas price that goes up, everything goes up, especially food.

Not necessarily. You can have a 30" line running 100 yards from your house but you'll never tap into it.
The locals here aren't just against fracking, they're against feeder lines, compressor stations, metering stations, valve stations and the rest of the infrastructure needed to gather and distribute natural gas.
And you would be amazed at how many people here, with access to natural gas, choose to heat their house with coal, oil or electricity. Part of it is tradition. Part is the expense of changing out heating systems. But lots of people prefer to have a pile or tank full of stuff that provides heat right in front of them.
