16 FoxB reporting another US bond downgrade.  This one by Egan Jones who also gave it a negative outlook.  So none of the major money people think things are going so hot right now. 


Not only is US debt BAD, but nobody sees any progress in things getting any better.  The Ryan budget was trashed by the tax and spend commies and it did not go far enough to eliminate debt.  People we will not get any better until we get the commies down to a very small minority in both houses of congress.  That is not likely to happen this cycle.

17 And speaking of FoxB,  Stuart Varney is saying the court will give a split decision on the Obamacare.   He says they will strike down the mandate and leave the rest, which is the worst of both worlds.   Still have the mandate to cover preexisting conditions which means it ain't insurance and get rid of the mandate that everyone must buy which means will not have the young subsidizing the rest and people can just have no insurance until the get sick and then file with pre-existing conditions.  Insurance companies will raise rates through the roof.

Of course Imus says we must have a safety-net.  Screw him.

Well, right now I am jealous that I can't afford to get in on the oil speculation game.  If ever I saw a sure bet for rising oil prices, it is Obama's energy policy.  Speculation is normally a risk based estimate of the future, but the Zero told us a long time ago that his intent was to skyrocket energy prices,  Betting on higher prices doesn't seem so risky in that light.  And with the energy infrastructure damage Zero has done, even a wildcat oil driller being elected President won't change that for a few years at least!

Under Obama's policies, my insurance premiums have already skyrocketed.  I doubt there is going to be any give-back even if the Court strikes down the whole law.  Still, I would hope the Court would find the lack of a severability provision to strike the whole thing.

I recommend all the morons check out the book "Toxic Charity."  I checked it out at our local library- but now I'm thinking of buying a copy for our minister and each of our elders at church.  It's not a political book at all- but it nevertheless delivers a scathing criticism of welfare- not because of the "take money from one to give to another" aspect that Conservatives will point out, but because of the just-as-fundamental problem (that Conservatives also point out) that it doesn't work.  It never gets people out of poverty- it increases dependency and entitlement.

He focuses on charities that provide welfare- from big organizations to your churches food pantry, and starts giving some ideas of how to change that "it doesn't work" part.

It's actually kind of disturbing to me to read- even though I already agree with virtually every word (I disagreed with the part where he said nice things about Jimmy Carter- but, again, it's not a political book).

It is indeed frustrating that they don't tell the truth except in select company.  It would indeed have to work that way.  Every real life example out there proves it.  But the reason it is unjust is that we punish everyone in order to make a situation wherein the suffering is equal, and worse - the powerful will STILL be getting benefits the rest of us will not, because they can leave the country or break the laws, etc.  Just like every other socialist system.

But let's also be clear eyed - the system we conservatives favor will also result in having to let people die.  Let's face it - right now a LOT of the cost of the kind of over-the-top medical treatment we enjoy in the US is government subsidized.  We're also forced to buy more coverage than many of us need because governments mandate certain treatments.  Emergency rooms are forced to treat indigent scum who wander in after their latest drug binge.  If we go true free market, we will choose not to pay for it all.  I am NOT interested in paying for some geezer to extend his terminal suffering by a few months by paying millions of dollars.  And really, I'm not interested in subsidizing research into rare diseases that affect 1 person in a million. 

I also contend that one thing we must do in order to have a reasonable system is to acknowledge the right people have to decide to end their own lives.  Our urge to do-gooding must be suppressed.  A huge part of health care cost comes from end-of-life care, which is all too often nothing more than buying a few more months, or a couple years, of sitting around in a demented state, or chronic pain, or both.  There's no value there.

Some people refuse to see the exceptions to the rule.  That's unfortunate.  And I'd say that person's comment was pretty short sighted.  I've seen plenty of married women who are clearly not adults, either.  They're more like a adlepated child than a wife.

That's just ridiculous.  WTF?   I'm single.     I know many single women who are far from being    a     "drain on society."     It's single motherhood that's the problem, and even there   it's only a particularly ignorant or entitled segment of the population that demands their gubmint Sugar Daddy support them.      I'd LIKE to have kids, but I'm not going to do it if I can't financially support them and offer them a stable home environment,   which includes having an actual dad around.    To do otherwise is stupid as hell.      Ending up on welfare is not something anyone should aspire to, let alone expect.

Well, obviously I haven't tried them, yet, so I don't really know.  Theoretically they sound good to me.  A couple of domestic examples (he also talks about how to do the same thing in developing countries, but I'll leave that aside for now)

1) The Food Pantry- most Churches have one of these, right?  People come in, ask for food, and they're given a box or a bag of food.  There might be some rules about how often you come in, or proving you live in the neighborhood, or whatever.

His suggestion: Grocery Co-Ops.  Use the Church's connection with a local food bank- "Member" families pay weekly dues (on the order of $3 - $5/wk).  That money gets pooled together, and buys groceries from the food bank.  The Member families then divvy up the food as equitably as possible.

That way, no one is "giving" them anything- they're leveraging buying power they wouldn't normally have, but they're being relatively self-reliant.  In addition, it fosters accountability (both socially, and fiscally- you don't pay this week, you don't get any of the food this week), and still serves the need of putting food on the table.

2) Christmas Gifts- Again- most people do the angle tree, or Toys for Tots, or whatever.  Instead, he suggests having people in the church donate unwrapped gifts to a Church-run thrift store.  The thrift store then sells them for cheap (they were donated, after all).

That way, poor families can buy some gifts for their kids, without fostering dependence on those organizations- simultaneously also allowing the parents (especially fathers) to rebuild some of their self respect.

Before I converted (Catholic), the Baptist church I was going to had a soup kitchen thing and part of the deal was that people had to sit through praying and Bible readings when they got their meal. They eliminated that a few months before I left because some folks felt that was forcing our faith on them and wrong. So they weren't even sharing the faith that motivated them to give in the first place anymore, unless they were specifically asked about it. I thought it was sad at the time and that feeling has only grown.

The important thing is that you're aware of the rampant nature of misandry and the negative impacts    it could have on your son.   Awareness is half the battle.   Now you and your husband have to make sure to "deprogram" the negative images your son ingests everyday   everywhere     from school to television to    children's books.     That part, unfortunately,    is    much more difficult.

Giving thanks to God before consuming gifts is not simply tradition, but tradition because that is how God asked things be done according to Scripture -- regardless of religious identity.  If it's a Christian Church, Jesus asked and directed his disciples to share his message. Many of Jesus' parables referenced laborers working through life. Were a Church to offer a volunteer work project with lunch or dinner provided, that would align with "the faith" rather than counter it. I'm glad that the Salvation Army is around, "Doing the most good" for people who've hit rock bottom, reminding the needy that they are needed and that they have something to offer by participating, helping themselves as they work together.

The issue is to look for character- not just at their habits, but the underlying assumptions for those habits.  A good guy is going to have good character all the time, even when his specific behavior or habits don't seem that way.  A guy of bad character isn't going to be changed into a guy of good character by anyone 99% of the time.

I had a similar experience once where a bunch of us pooled money for an "adopted family" for Christmas.  When it came time to run around buying gifts, I was about making the money go as far as possible, so "CD player an CDs" to me meant cheap CD player so we could get CDs as well (this was the early 2000s)

The libtards in the group insisted they should get the same CD player I would buy for myself (which, before iPods was a $70 MP3 capable player) which would have left us sans money for any actual CDs.  I battled and battled and got them to settle on a $50 player and 1-2 CDs.  I felt sorta absurd about it, because these people (the ones I was with) don't understand the notion of "basic" and "stretching limited funds."  Which may explain why they vote democrat.

Am I the only one who was OK with the "Millitary Service" part of the dream act?  The college part was total bullshit, but if you want to join the military (the really millitary, not the Gaurd, not the Reserves.)  And serve 5-7 years, I'd be OK with granting citizenship or somesuch.  I doubt we'd have a rush on people wanting to join the military to not be deported. And you'd have to make it out with an honorable discharge (anything else gets you shoved back to where you came from.)

 

The college stuff was stupid, I mean who won't just enroll in college for 6 weeks for amnesty (and get financial aid to do it?! WTF?)

Way back when that original Dream Act was being pushed hard there was an analysis at one of the conservative sites, not sure which one now.  But the wording of the act was such that anyone who had attended school here for longer than a certain period of time was eligible to apply for citizenship. 

That would make tens of thousands of illegals who had already attended eligible instantly as well as tens of thousands who had came here on student visas.

I was disappointed with the Bush decisions after 9/11/01 because though a military response was acceptable, I did not trust the rhetoric being propagandized. Bush promised to deliver Muslims "democracy" as if they didn't already have majority rule in many cases in the Middle East, and as if majority rule is the same as what Americans have demanded for ourselves, LIBERTY and God Given natural rights, aka human rights. The business of the US forcibly nation building the Muslim nations to our satisfaction never promised either success or cultural benefits for either Americans or Muslims around the world. If a tree is known by its fruit, then admit the business of insane PC "Karzai" Rules of Engagement determined and imposed by our own Military upon American service men and women thrust into the hornets nest with the mission to be all things to all people and never shoot first. Compound that with constant re-deployments, driving our military personnel beyond reasonable expectations for maintaining their personal "normal" relations outside of combat. These policies formulate the worst outcome, dashing the high expectations initially set by Bush, demoralizing Americans. We sacrificed immensely to bring Muslims "democracy", and continue, reaching the disillusioned anger that leads to madness. Now we "feel justified" advocating genocide to the ingrates because we didn't get our way, and amazingly or ironically, they seem to have theirs. Ah, the road to hell isn't the only one paved with good intentions. So if the Road to Serfdom.

God gave humans a frontal lobe brain capable of finding an idea to be as "real" as any material substance. While making humans stewards over Creation, God gave humans communication through thought, and free will in life. And humans gain knowledge, hopefully reaching wisdom, through suffering independent experience. And without love, there is misery. Without compassion or empathy, we are less than beasts since we know better.

IF America were a Christian Nation as the evangelicals insist, why is it the evangelicals calling loudest for interventionist wars that annihilate the original indigenous Christian populations?

If the US interventionist wars have not better secured American Liberty (and justice for all), why would unleashing more doom promise or sanctify our pursuit of happiness?

Meanwhile, at home, greedy and corrupt politicians keep voters convinced that FEAR conquers all, and that we must submit to being terrorized by our own government or face severe penalization.

348 Hell, they even tried to put a homeless shelter in my kid's church run elementary school (just on the weekends). The Lutheran Church and school in West Springfield does (or did) just that. I was commuting on mass transit into Crystal City one day a week. Groups of homeless would sometimes hop the bus at Franconia-Springfield station (with some special kind of a free pass--NOT a transfer ticket) at evening rush hour to ride to the shelter. I learned to vehemently oppose any program that provides aid to the homeless. As if the hygiene problems weren't bad enough, the kind of crap they discussed loudly during the short rides was more than enough to set me categorically against the homeless for life. "Underclass" might be just a condition for some unlucky souls out there, but every example I've seen with my own eyes has been due to either mental illness or character deficiency.

Actually, Shulman was appointed by Bush, and even though everyone hates the IRS, he's done a pretty good job. His comments were directed at Congress because of the absurdity of the current tax code and that they need to fix it. He's leaving after his appointment is up this summer and was not asking for a tax increase. That's not a part of his job.

I've met him, and was pleasantly surprised by him. He's a pretty down-to-earth guy, and even though he can't say it, I suspect that he despises obummer and everything he stands for. At least, that's the impression I got.

I thought it was an interesting piece and he makes a good case as to why Romney would pick him. That said, I think he underestimates how important it is to pick someone who excites the base. He mentioned it in passing but I think it is more important now than ever.
