Happy Thursday.

The news this morning is dominated by Obama's big flip-flop evolution, and I couldn't really give a damn. So how about a music video instead? Here, a cover from some of my favorite YouTubers:

6 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Thursday, May 10, 2012.  On this day in 1849 the Astor Place Riot took place at the Astor opera house in NYC.  The riot started over an argument about which actor was the best at playing Shakespearean parts.  And they say we get excited about our movie stars now! The riot grew out of hand and the militia was called out.  They in turn shot into the crowd.  25 people were killed and 120 were injured. The old opera house is gone now having been torn down a replaced by a building at the corner of 8th street, Layette, and Astor Place. (triangle at Cooper Square)  Also, today is Confederate Memorial day in NC & SC to commemorate the death of Stonewall Jackson.

8 Sheriff Joe about to be sued by criminal Holder's racists at the EEOC with our tax dollars.   Basically what is at issue here is Holder wants to set up a semi-Section V to oversee all of the Sheriff's operations and most likely require prior approval.  Let us suppose Holder loses, as he should, and the court agrees that the DOJ should pay all court costs and lawyer fees.   Who will be held accountable?   We will.

Perhaps we need an amendment that says only the people who voted for current occupants will be held accountable.  Or better yet, an amendment that office holders are held accountable.  And what should Sheriff Joe do in the meantime? What I would like to see is one of these States tell Holder, and other departments under this crooked administration, that they have no authority and to stick it up their crooked lying asses.

One other thought, an amendment prohibiting any body of government for using tort law fr anything but contract violations.

11 In a softball interview with ABC the lying bastard Obama wanted to get his new campaign position out there on Gay Marriage but he let this slip about the U.S. troops:

"those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf."

The answer from his chief press agent liar will be something to the order of "he misspoke".  Of course he did, but it was certainly a Freudian slip from this disgusting piece of shit.  That is the way pharaoh Obama really feels.

As for his position on gay marriage, in reality he opposes it.  Muslims believe that gays should be hanged from the derricks of extended crane booms.

Will Black Voters Punish Obama for His Support of Gay Rights?

Answer: No, they will still vote 96% for him.  However, I suspect that there will not be another flood of black voters as there was in 2008.  And it will not be because of "gay" stuff.  It will be because a damn lot of them are pissed off about all the rest of his communist shit.  The Peggy Moocher crowd normally does not vote and 2008 was probably an aberration.

The MFM is banging it like it's the end of WW2.  Last night on NBC nightly news, Brian "Countdown to Coming out of the Closet" Williams devoted at least a quarter of the news to this obvious pandering to open up the FudgePACs.  Even my wife, who like a fucking idiot voted for the grifter in chief, said it's a distraction from all his mistakes.

34 #29   What is so ridiculous is that all that Obama said was his personal opinion (as of this week).  There is no change in policy or law,  so his personal opinion is irrelevant.

ABC broke into regular programming so he could tell us his personal opinion.

This affects us how?  NOT AT ALL.

Romney is right.  We need to talk about the issues voters are concerned with,  adn that would be the economy and JOBS.

42 #39  Lugar was pretty conservative at the time of his election,  compared to other senators of that era.  It's just that the Senate changed over the course of many years,  and he was still operating in the 1970's.

A big factor in his loss was his age.  I don't know how many older people I heard on the local talk radio indignant that he was still in Washington when he should have retired.  80 is just too old to be running for another term.

Also,  although Mourdock had tea party support,  he also had the support of 80 of the 92 country chairmen before he ever declared.  Those would be the party regulars.   So Mourdock did a good job of uniting both tea party and establishment people.

62 wired has in an interesting story on AB testing today (actually, three stories) and they mention how several Google AB fanatics joined barry campaign and brought AB testing there. go check out wired.com if you do not know what AB testing is, it is an interesting read.
I have worked with these kind of people in Si valley, and i know how they work. They are liberals. they are the kind of people that think they are smarter, better informed, and more analytical than you. they are the kind of people that drive their cars into the ocean because the GPS said so.

The wired article made the think about the GM (gay marriage) situation. I am sure this was AB tested. In fact, i think half the stupid stuff biden says is just test marketing with plausible deniability. If it sounds stupid, blame it on Joe. the loose cannon. In fact, i think the press leaks that joe forced his hand was another "heavily lawyered" way to blame others if it blew up on him.

My guess is that this was seen as a good way to change the subject and not talk about jobs for another week. 24 more topics like this and it will be November. It was probably also seen as a way to differentiate himself from Romney, and make Romney look as old and hackneyed as Anita Dunn's little red book. It also took some heat off the "flexibility" problem, since everyone knew he was going to evolve anyway. Finally, GM is all about symbolism since there are a lot of easier ways to get the same benefits (seriously, legislative action so you can visit your bf in the hospital. why does the hospital even ask the relationship of your visitors? that should be illegal if anything is.) but the symbolism is what mattered and that only came if he come out.

I decided early on that I wasn't going to be pressured into this fad. Even the checkers at the grocery store think they are filthy and the ones that know me make faces to me when they are handed them by someone else. Some have started wearing gloves for this reason.

Then I hear, "And you can wash them." OK, so how is my using a "reuseable bag" and then having to run a load of wash to decontaminate it "help" the environment? Why not get a paper bag? Save the trees? The trees are planted to be harvested, duh. The whole thing is stupid. Or recycle plastic.

I think you give them too much credit.  They aren't 10' tall.  If you were choreographing something like this, you wouldn't do it by putting yourself in a position where you look like you're only doing it because you were politically trapped by your own veep and your own words.

It may be a distraction, but a few more distractions like this and they will be fatally damaged, if they aren't already.

Romney can wait with the big gun issues until closer to the election.  Right now, he is letting the O campaign do his work for him for free, and he isn't wearing out his welcome with the electorate, who will be heartily sick of ALL politicians come November.

Posted by: Sean Bannion at May 10, 2012 08:39 AM (sbV1u) I used to work as a director of a summer camp for over-priviliged Jews in the Poconos, and we always recruited counselors from all over the country. One lasting memory was standing in the dining hall line for bagels and lox on Sunday, behind a kid from Gulfport MS who had never been out of the state. He looked at the food, then turned to me and said, "hey what's that orange fish?" Loved it.

Without tools like Exim, we would get our asses kicked in the only sector of our manufacturing sector not getting hammered. Do you think Airbus is rolling with free trade argument in Paris? I suspect the crap they roll out here never even gets translated to French, lest the laughter hurt someone.

172 The wired article made the think about the GM (gay marriage) situation. ============= I believe they throw up trial balloons all over the place. And, yes, there is always a CYA way out, but also, it is a way to cause confusion, chaos and disarray. I remember seeing a video interview of a ex-KGB agent who explained how they tried to infiltrate their enemy - that most, like 85% was this kind of shit. The actual spying and all that espionage stuff we hear about was really very limited. It was these mind games that were more of what they were taught. And, he said creating "confusion" in people's minds was a key part. With that said, Mark Levin had a different angle at the beginning of his show yesterday (you can grab it at his site for free to listen). He said this announcement was a direct response to the losses in WV and Wisconsin. The writing was on the wall. It was bad - and this was his response to counter. He said the Reagan Democrats are back, and Obama is fighting this.

Not true.  I have worked very closely with people in AMR and Southwest Airlines.  As a rule, the airline industry hates Airbus.  I mean: deep despite.  The only reason Airbus can compete is Europe's intervention.

The guys at Southwest (who, I think, own just a few Airbus jets) have said that if Boeing alone could really meet their demand, they'd never buy from Airbus.

I worked at UPS for a long time, and we always bought tractors from a few different manufacturers. If one went out of business we would take a hit, but it wouldn't idle the entire fleet.

Because of the short time frame between the primary (2 days ago) and the Recall election itself (June 5), ballots will not be printed and available till May 18, since the election will not be certified until the 17th.

That means that ballots WILL NOT be able to be sent out to Military personnel deployed overseas in time for the recall.

My son and every Wisconsin soldier who serves with him, and everyone who serves in any other military base around the world - WILL NOT be able to vote in the recall!

Unlike the affluent guilty-white professorial clique in Moonbatville TX, Austin university kids are voting against Obama. But not for Mittens. Even in Republican Bushland, A&M Aggie students support Ron Paul's conservative Constitutional Republic agenda.

The Joker mask came off only to expose The Joker. Even FDR staunch defender of organized labor Webster Tarpley has never had anything good to report regarding Obama. Along with Tarpley and Chris Hedges, the honest scholars professing compassionate socialism for big government have not been behind Obama, having persistently exposed Obama's fraud since his '08 campaign MUCH BETTER than any Republican (McCain!) effort.

College kids are disgusted with Obama's economic fraud, squandering trillions of dollars on friends. Angry about inflation and unemployment, those kids who get a job note their high taxation regardless of Obama's hype promising relief, and the countless MORE WARS than Bush, heading towards the draft, not to mention being sexually molested every trip by TSA jackasses.

What kind of an idiot bases his entire premise on dominating racial supremacy, particularly when not in the population majority? Obama's THAT one.

Yes - here is the link to the notice I got this morning.  The problem is the State Constitution requires that a recall primary be held 6 weeks after a recall is approved, and that the election itself must be held not 4 weeks after that.  That leaves very little time for certification of the primary vote, printing of the ballot, mailing absentee ballots out, and receiving them back in time.

247 The problem is the State Constitution requires that a recall primary be held 6 weeks after a recall is approved, and that the election itself must be held not 4 weeks after that.

That sucks.  But that's also the law- so I'm not sure what the GAB could do.

What would be good, is if all the candidates (including the losing candidates) all sent certified letters to the GAB saying "This is the result, we're okay with it, let's get those ballots out," and then the GAB turning around and certifying.

But that won't happen.  I'm not even completely sure it should, despite how much that sucks for your son and his buddies.

I'm not sure what else there is to do.  Even if you could get it heard in Federal Court, the Federal Courts have no say in how internal elections are held, and this is something that's in the WI Constitution.

I do hope a good solution is found, though.

272 It could cost U.S. employers between $2 billion and $4 billion to comply with an obscure Americans with Disabilities Act regulation meant to protect workers who are gun-shy in public restrooms. According to an informal discussion letter the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission issued in August 2011, “paruresis” — more commonly known as “shy bladder syndrome” — qualifies as a disability under the amended Americans with Disabilities Act. The International Paruresis Association defines the odd affliction as the “inability to urinate with others present.” The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, the gold-standard of psychiatrists, categorizes it as a social phobia that affects roughly seven percent of the population — approximately 17 million Americans. The Association alleges that thousands of people who are afflicted by paruresis have been unfairly fired because of their inability to urinate in a public restroom during random drug screening tests. And while the EEOC suggests that providing alternative drug-testing methods is one way to accommodate these sufferers, the next frontier could be the claim that they are entitled to pee in privacy during the normal course of daily work. If every employer large enough to be subject to the ADA were to hedge against future lawsuits by adding segregated restrooms for timid tinklers, the cost would exceed the gross domestic product of many small nations. Congress passed the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990 to protect people with severe handicaps such as blindness, deafness or paralysis. It was updated by the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendment Act (ADAAA) in 2009 to accommodate far more disabilities and now also covers a plethora of other afflictions — including bashful bladder syndrome. One of the WORST and most fucked up "Laws" ever passed and one more reason you don't want the Gov to have anything to do with health care.

Everyone.  HUGE NEWS.   Forget Obama's "evolution" on gay marriage.   Forget    Putin thumbing his nose at the US.   Forget Chinese banks setting up shop on American shores.   That's all immaterial.  THIS is the really big news.

Via the Boston Herald:  http://tiny.cc/gkh3dw

President Obama snubbing the Vineyard this summer (!!!)

Unbook the tee times and cancel the cocktail soirees. Because word from the Beltway is that President Obama will not return to MarthaÂ’s Vineyard this summer for his annual canoodle with the Beautiful People.

Not that this is exactly shocking news. Because it is, of course, an election year. Which means that instead of playing 18 with deep-pocketed donors, sipping cocktails with Masters of the Universe and shooting hoops on his private court, Barry will be shaking hands and kissing babies with peons in the swing states.

...

Of course, with the economy still pretty much in the toilet and unemployment rampant, it would not be good for the prezÂ’s poll numbers for him to be hitting the links at the private club in Edgartown, where initiation fees ran as high as $500G at one time. That would just tee off struggling Americans who will head to the voting booths three months later!

Our beloved Preznit is foregoing his much deserved vacation time, everyone.  OMG, my entire opinion of him has changed.  He really DOES care about the 'little guy.'   Nixing his annual vacation to the playground of the rich and richer      proves that    Obama's an everyman,   unlike Mitt Romney,    and we should give him our full support!

Average household in america is still just about 4.1 IIRC (2 parents and 2.1 children.)  Doesn't raise it to your number and it includes babies!

319 True. The middle class has really shrunk to about 15-20 percent of the population (and shrinking). Majority (75 percent) lower class (no car, no assets, barely eating, and walking by foot/taking bus) and then the underclass below them. Posted by: Lampshade at May 10, 2012 09:33 AM (lkdo/) ------------------ no car - doesn't that fit your green world? no assets - doesn't that fit your anti-bank/corporatist world? barely eating - you don't know that our taxes pay for food banks and soup kitchens for the poor? Not to mention the plethora of conservative & religious charities. walking by foot/taking the bus - doesn't this fit TWO of your worlds? Moochelle's get up and dance/exercise BS AND, a twofer! Doesn't take the bus fit your green world?

Or you can just save up your frustration until the next family get-together, at which point you can smack her over the head with your purse.  I recommend the latter, personally.

It's just a financial instrument, not a reflection of you. And there is a small advantage to you if your mortgage is being traded: the chance that the paperwork is screwed up in the unlikely event of foreclosure is much greater among mortgages that have been traded. And screwed up paperwork means lots of delays and a possible failure of the foreclosure in court.

Was surprised to hear a very lengthy story this morning on NPR about all the college grads who can't find jobs, or are working crappy minimum-wage service jobs and living with their parents because they have $800 a month in student loans to pay off.  A new study found that HALF of all college grads since 2007 are unemployed or underemployed!  This is unconscionable.  And it is even worse for those that majored in the arts and humanities.  It was really depressing, especially since I have a son who is a music major and just finished his freshman year.

Then they did a story about the lack of geriatric psychiatrists and how many more are going to be needed as the Baby Boomers get old.  I am now considering telling my 14-year-old to forget about music and get a degree in geriatric psychiatry!

Are we holding everything else constant?  So all the non-Black Vote stays as it is?  If you really pulled 100% AA voters it would have flipped MO in 2008 I'd think. (not that it would have mattered, but that's my benchmark).

KC and STL have your average turnout levels but are highly AA and in '08 MO went red only by thousands of votes IIRC.

Psych takes to long.  Nursing is still fairly stable.  It's in shortages more than there are surpluses of nurses, and with the medical education staying fairly static in terms of numbers, there will be less doctors overall and a higher need for nurses.  So the nursing surpluses in the early 90s were more likely an anomoly than anything.

Yikes, those of you with kids or family majoring in music, unless it's education - and even then - try to get them to reconsider or double major into something that's not going to be completely useless.

Not happening here.  My son would not have gone to college unless he could major in music.  He is smart but not interested in anything else, and hasn't been since he was 12.  At least he is majoring in commercial music, though he is now talking about switching to classical composition.  I am fighting him on that.  He is at a school that has no reputation in composition, but has a huge one in commercial music with lots of connections in the industry and a very good internship program.  His career goal is to write music for movies, TV, and video games.  That's a pretty big industry, especially the game-music field.  He knows it will be tough, but he is very driven and willing to work hard and not make a lot of money for a while.  Luckily the college isn't too expensive and he won't have much debt coming out.  I have resigned myself to no grandchildren for at least another 15 years.

Also you do realize if you adjust the divorce rate to only account for 1st time divorces (i.e. exlcude all people who remarry and then divorce again) the divorce rate drops fairly quickly.

I'm not saying the state of the family is the best it's ever been, but it's not so awful as to skew the general stats enough to make me worry for the sake of stupid arguments.  Among the middle class it's fairly decent.

Movie music isn't a big industry and neither is TV.  The jobs in those that are most accessible in both don't pay worth a damn.  Video games are a little more accessible, but not much.  If he wants to do comp, he should minor or take classes on the side, regardless of genre.  If he has real talent, the degree won't matter.

Chances are he's been led down this path by educators who don't give their students an accurate picture of what they're getting into when it comes to music.  The bottom line is that he needs a skill or an education that translates into something that's going to pay the bills.  Music Comp just isn't going to cut it for the vast majority of students.  The chances of him making a decent living at anything in the music industry without doing something else to pay his bills are small enough to where it's just not smart to hedge yourself against the terrible odds.

Some rosy palm numbers, plain and simple.

Well, there is a current precedent on another choo choo already newly built and operating there. And the results ain't pretty:

Los AngelesÂ’ brand new $930 million Exposition light rail line is carrying so few riders and bringing in so little revenue that it will, at best, take 65 years for the train to earn back its capital investment (not including ongoing operating costs). If the project completes its next phase and establishes an at-grade train that runs through heavy street traffic from Downtown L.A. to the city of Santa Monica, it will not pay for its construction for 170 years.

The heartwarming event was recorded as it unfolded in a school gymnasium, as Staff Sgt. Jeremy Cooney believed his son's cerebral palsy would keep him from being able to move without assistance for his entire life.

'We kept the fact that he could walk a secret the whole time his dad was gone,' wife Melissa Cooney told the Welcome Home Blog...

In other words, I think you know how flying car licenses should be handled in alextopia: selective, arbitrary

Everything in alextopia will be selective and arbitrary. Much like the time I nearly made a professor cry when he asked how I planned to rule my hypothetical kingdom and I replied "by whim, of course."

Yeah, I hear ya.  I still wonder what the WH is planning for those of us who signed Iowahawk's "Resign Obama" thingy a while back.  Husband and I used our real names and addresses.  *looks over shoulder*

463 As for his position on gay marriage, in reality he opposes it. Muslims believe that gays should be hanged from the derricks of extended crane booms. Posted by: Vic at May 10, 2012 06:44 AM (YdQQY) People keep saying this but it's not true. I wish people would stop spreading this. Muslims throw gay people off roofs or push walls over onto them, not hang them from cranes. Well, I mean unless there's no walls left to hold up the roofs, in which case I guess a crane may be an option. But not as a rule.

466 Muslims throw gay people off roofs or push walls over onto them, not hang them from cranes. I worked Fluor Procurement/Construction in Irving. My buddy worked for Fluor as a carpenter in Saudi Arabia. Beheadings were common there. They loved to behead in front of Americans.
