Gabe's taking a well-deserved vacation this week, so I'll be working the early shift here at the HQ in his absence.

My favorite obscure news item of the weekend has to be the Obamacare Mother's Day card.

No shit. That's really on the Whitehouse.gov (as opposed to Whitehouse dot com ... Rule 34 and all) website.

Our tax dollars are paying for that propaganda. Lucky us.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Monday, May 14, 2012.  On this day in 1804 Lewis and Clark set out to map and explore the newly acquired Louisiana Purchase. In 1809 Lewis was murdered at an inn with multiple gunshot wounds to the head. Historians claim it was suicide.

24 I know it's pointless to point out to people who never learned math because math is racist and sexist (and because with all the eco-worship, racial grievances, bashing fatties, and sex ed, there's just no time in the school day to teach kids something as trivial as math) that the main reason women's premiums are higher is because maternity care is expensive.  Before I got employer insurance, I was saving ~&7K year by getting insurance without pregnancy/delivery coverage.  I'd like to have those savings now, but the group plan covers all services, including abortion.

(So far this year, my health insurance, estimated at $12k based on the share I'm paying, has paid out under $50.  Great investment.  I'd rather have the cash for my dental work.)

Then again, I would ever submit it to them:

Too many fonts
Blue on blue and baby-blue font on white are difficult to read
Perspective: Opposing shadows on the mom and daughter
The emphasis is on The Affordable Care Act, not Mother's Day which, while intentional, is also clearly self-serving. Even a barely sophisticated customers would see right through the ploy.

60 Being Black "Liberation" Theology Marxists and former Muslims, why expect either Rev. Wright or Obama to have a grip on EQUALITY?

Muslims practice polygamy, as Barak Obama did, marrying willy nilly and fathering children where ever, abandoning wives/families at will.

Muslims consider the female genitalia a deformity REQUIRING mutilation aka removal. Throughout the female lifespan, absolute submission to male patriarchy is required on pain of further abuse and eventual honor killing.

And Barry's most beautiful sound in the world is the Muslim call to worship the omnipotence demanding blood sacrifice and retribution for any perceived offense.

Homosexuality is prominent with civilization and urban life.

102 Maybe because deep down they know that their behavior is unacceptable, and want external justification for it. ---------- Or they want to make marriage meaningless. In any case, Obama's "bold statement" will soon be a memory. I think this was a big play that Obama had lined up and Biden blew it for him. Gay marriage is one of the only issues where, to his supporters, Obama has actually made some progress. He hasn't done as much on immigration, taxing the rich, or even universal health care as the Left had hoped. As far as winning issues was concerned, for whatever reason, this was a big one. I don't understand why Obama coming out in support of gay marriage is making the Left so happy--it changes nothing--but obviously, this would have been a good strategy for Obama had the timing gone according to plan. Now that Biden fucked up, what does Obama have left?

As far as prices go, they're right.  It would not affect them at all.

The WaPo editorial did say it would give the US some energy independence:

With enhanced domestic and Canadian production, the country would achieve a certain energy independence: If the world oil market were to collapse because of a global war or another catastrophe, America would maintain access to its energy resources

But, if the Keystone pipeline were built,  all of that oil was supposed to be refined in Texas and shipped around the world.  It's pretty crappy grade oil and we would only use it in case of shortages.

104 The gays cannot stand that the Church will not accept their activity as non-sinful. Catholic doctrine is love the sinner, hate the sin; being gay is not a sin, acting on it is. The action is disordered. This refusal by the Church to go along makes them absolutely NUTS. I still think that the "scandal" in the Church was an effort by gay men who had had affairs with gay priests to punish the Church for not coming around even after having gay priests. Most of the affairs were with older teenage boys and when they reached adulthood and the Church had not come around, they were furious. I can almost see that but they confused the people with the institution.

This whole marriage thing is so that they can sue the Church, period. They can accomplish the legal stuff other ways, can have gay religious ceremonies et al but their constant fight to get it called "marriage" specifically is so they can try to make the church marry them and then sue them into the underground.

They consider it payback for the Church refusing to fall in line.

He had pursued her across the country begging her to marry him, acting so romantic. After their children, he finally confessed why he didn't want sex anymore, and told her he couldn't abstain from illicit gay sex in the retail dressing room at work. So she divorced, and their church community sided with him, he being the return missionary and male.  "Poor Bro. Shealey" -- you're all ass, Joe.

171 There are actually very good secular reasons to oppose gay marriage, which is fun when I argue with liberals and they accuse me of being a Christian. Not that that should offend me or anything... If they did, and still chose to roll it out, it means they are even more desperate than we might have thought.

Cherish your mothers. The ones who wiped your tears, who were at every ball game or ballet recital. The ones who believed in you, even when nobody else did, even when maybe you didnÂ’t believe in yourself.

Women wear many hats in their lives. Daughter, sister, student, breadwinner. But no matter where we are or what weÂ’re doing, one hat that moms never take off is the crown of motherhood.

I'll see your Gay Marriage gambit, Mr. (first gay) President, and raise you a crazy as hell Nork. Why are we playing these weak games when we should be talking up our sides typically less limp defense positions. Norks are jamming GPS, outsourcing havoc to Chinese hackers and generally being naughty. The Russians, smelling weakness oozing out of an effeminate administration, are openly telling the world that they will whack us. Fundamentalist Islam is grabbing power in civil vacuums around the world. Enough with gay marriage already, let's get back to generating some fear. When we get Kony there will be another round of big press chest thumping and high-fiving, more smoke. Mitt et al needs to start throwing some real gas onto the fire, if for no other reason than to cause more light to fall upon the ugly problems that surround us. Fear is good, in the right hands.

191 The presidentÂ’s list includes an expanded program to help homeowners refinance their mortgages, a proposal to give small businesses tax breaks for hiring more workers, a program that would help veterans find jobs, and an extension of tax credits for clean-energy companies.

He lobbied for the refinancing plan Friday in a speech in Reno, Nev. – a state that ranks second in the nation in mortgage foreclosures.

All told, the proposals on the presidentÂ’s list could cost up to $34.7 billion: They are part of a more comprehensive $447 billion jobs package that Congress mostly has resisted.

Mr. Obama didnÂ’t discuss in his address the cost of his proposals or how to pay for them. The refinancing plan, for example, would likely include a fee charged to homeowners.

The card is really really creepy.  Also it's time for me to get up on the tallest soapbox.  Do you know what the number one killer of women is?  Heart disease.  Yet if you listen to the MFM, you would presume that every single woman out there is going to end up with breast cancer.  It drives me absolutely bonkers.  Oh, let's not forget that men get breast cancer too.  Also, iirc, the rate of men with prostate cancer is nearly equal to the rate of women with breast cancer but hey that's affecting icky icky men so what do we care?  Look, it's not like breast cancer isn't a major health issue.  It's just that it's not the *only* women's health issue that exists.

Also, what's so horribly wrong about charging different premiums based on different levels of risk?  I would be blindly furious to be paying the same rate for car insurance as a 17 yo male.

Umm.  Little help getting down?

Posted by: Niedermeyer's Dead Horse at May 14, 2012 05:34 AM (piMMO)

237 BALTIMORE (WJZ) – Just days after President Barack Obama announced his support for same-sex marriage, pastors and priests around Maryland took to their own pulpits with their reaction– and in some cases– condemnation of the president.

Derek Valcourt explains the presidentÂ’s comments have folks on both sides of the issue fired up.

Both sides hope the presidentÂ’s position helps sway votes in their favor when the issue hits MarylandÂ’s ballot this November.

“I think same-sex couples should be able to get married,” President Obama said.

When President Obama announced that his position on same-sex marriage had evolved, it outraged some African-American pastors like Pastor and Del. Emmett Burns.

“He has said to his base, African-Americans, ‘I am going against your beliefs and your thoughts’,” Burns said.

HeÂ’s so opposed to same-sex marriage, he told church members he will no longer support the president and now predicts Obama will lose the election because of it.

It's a sport played by all men, watched primarily by men, and we have to see the guys in pussy pink for a whole month. Not that I'm wishing for folks to die of breast cancer or anything. I just think, given the demographics, it would make more sense if they were trying to raise awareness for something men suffer from at high rates, like prostate cancer.

What is the benefit to society of homosexual marriage?

None, as far as I can see.  It's been  proven by numerous studies that the  healthiest environment to raise  children   is  in  a traditional household  held together by marriage between  a  husband and wife. End of story.

How come this  little tidbit of information is  never mentioned anymore?

President Obama violated the law by failing to brief Congress on the counterterrorism operation that thwarted an attempted underwear bombing two weeks ago, according to the House Intelligence Committee chairman.

Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., said Obama did not "play [it] straight" with him. "They [did] not notify Congress, which is, by the way, law, under the National Security Act of 1947," he said on CBS's Face the Nation. "They're obligated to do it."

The Obama administration followed the law during the Osama bin Laden raid, on the other hand. "We were brought in briefed, and we were briefed regularly on the all the operational developments right up to the phone call saying, 'Hey, we're-- we're going,'" Rogers said.

The obligation to brief Congress strenghtens national security, he added. "There's a reason you do that, so you can have that third-party independent eye on these kinds of operations because they are serious, dangerous and classified," Rogers explained.

Milk poured down BritainÂ’s kitchen sinks each year creates a carbon footprint equivalent to thousands of car exhaust emissions, research shows

Scientists say the 360,000 tonnes of milk wasted in the UK each year creates greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 100,000 tonnes of CO2. The study by the University of Edinburgh says this is the same as is emitted by about 20,000 cars annually.

My sister and I were born of different fathers, neither of which was present in our lives. Only 18 months separates us in age and we were raised in the same household, but from birth could not have been more different.

I worked hard in school as a child and was led by conscience. As a young adult, I worked several jobs when necessary to assure my daughter would never experience the shame of welfare as did my sister and I. As it turns out, I now know that my biological father was a small business owner who has never been in trouble with the law.

My sister, beautiful and smart, was in trouble a lot and started taking drugs as a teen. She has been in and out of prison her entire adult life, possesses no impulse control, and blames every misfortune in her life on someone else. Her father, as it turns out, led the same kind of life.

I've always wondered about that.

Yup, you read that right: if your group plan lets you take the premiums out pre-tax, then your refund's taxable.; Same if you're self-employed and take the deduction.

Oh,l and you get to re-file your previous year's tax return, too. Methinks this may not be the publicity that PresBo's looking for.

269 One of the reasons having a baby costs so much is because of the incredibly high risk OB's and anesthesiologists have of being sued. They pay the highest premiums for malpractice insurance, and in some parts of the country are paying 6 figures easilly a year just for that. No lib ever mentions that when they posit the question "Why does healthcare cost so much?"

-------------------------

My own ob/gyn told me she paid over $100K in malpractice insurance in the Orlando, FL area.  It got to be so excessive and expensive, she closed down her practice and went to work at the hospital teaches classes and taking patients on the side.  She said she mainly made the move because the hospital system now paid for her malpractice ins.

270 My oldest brother was actually the son of a WWII pilot who was shot in a bar with a whore on his lap during a gambling dispute. My mother remarried my dad and had 3 more children. They didn't tell my oldest brother abt his paternity and kept the checks from the army in a secret account that they didn't use for his upkeep so that he would have this nest egg to start his adult life. However, he left college to go to flight school and go to Vietnam where he got in trouble. He died last year from his alcoholism but I've been reunited by the son he abandoned. Oh, btw the original WWII pilot was sired illegitimately by a French WWI pilot who crashed his plane drunk. The genes won out even when they didn't know about them.

Not sure if they fixed it or not, but in MS several years ago they were in danger of not having any OB/GYNs in private practice due to malpractice insurance being so outrageous.

276 (WaPo) — President Obama’s announcement Wednesday that he supports same-sex marriage highlights the importance of the gay community to his re-election effort, which could get a boost in donations as a result.

Many of Obama’s key financial supporters are gay — including finance director Rufus Gifford and Democratic National Committee treasurer Andrew Tobias — and the campaign has regularly held fundraisers focused on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender donors.

A review of ObamaÂ’s top bundlers, who have brought in $500,000 or more for the campaign, shows that about one in six publicly identify themselves as gay. His overall list of bundlers also includes a number of gay couples who have wed in jurisdictions where same-sex marriage was legal.

“It’s a very important constituency,” said Los Angeles attorney Dana Perlman, a top Obama bundler who is helping organize a 700-person LGBT fundraiser for the president on June 6. “The community for the most part is wholeheartedly behind this man.”

They wouldn't let him build a production facility on his ranch in Marin County--even  with 95% open space and a bunch of other concessions over 20 years. So, he says, "Fuck you" and tells them he's going to sell the land for it's original zoning: Residential housing, specifically, low-income residential housing. And he's even giving the (likely hundreds of thousands of dollars) site work to the new developers to speed the process along.

295 I find the genetic behavior discussion pretty interesting, in light of this Bible verse:

"The LORD is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation"

It's hard to understand this as just, yet it's also clear that children inherit more than just good looks or material things from their parents.  (Another related example:  Alcoholism running in families)
