2 Good Morning Morons. Today is Wednesday, May 30, 2012.  On this day in 1431 Joan of Arc was burned as a heretic.  This type of shit is a prime reason why religion should not be part of government and government should not be part of religion as well.  Thomas Jefferson in his letter to the Danbury Baptist Association had it right.  Meanwhile we here are being inundated by rain.

3 Oh my goodness, the Whitehouse maintains a "kill list" in which Obama determines which terrorists are to die.  Fox was making a big deal of this while I was sitting in the waiting room yesterday captive to the damn 100db audio of the TV.  I think Obama is an asshole and a commie, but this is not the hill to die on.  There is one point though, it demonstrates his hypocrisy during the campaign since he and the Democrats excoriated GWB for killing terrorists.

10 Heritage and Club for Growth to fight new farm bill. I like this quote from The Hill:

Conservative groups have made it official - they hate the Senate farm bill and will push Tea Party fiscal hawks in Congress to defeat it.

Nothing could illustrate how they are nothing more than barking spiders for the Democrap camp than including that little jibe about "tea party" people in congress.

As for me, I think not only should they kill this bill, but also the Dept of Agriculture and every nickel being thrown at farms.   The idea that farm bills help Joe Farmer should have been dispelled long ago.

SAN FRANCISCO -- House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said Tuesday that she expects the U.S. Supreme Court next month will uphold President Obama's signature legislation: the Affordable Care Act.

"We believe that this bill constitutionally is iron-clad," she told a crowd of about 550 at a Commonwealth Club event in the Fairmont Hotel. "I expect a 6-3 'aye' verdict from the Supreme Court."

Pelosi, whose discussion with the club was meant to commemorate her 25th anniversary in Congress, said the bill is among her proudest legislative accomplishments. More than 80 million Americans -- young people allowed to remain on their parents' policies, children with pre-existing conditions, people availing themselves of preventative care and many more -- already have benefited from its provisions, she said.

24 TRENTON — In a victory for Gov. Chris Christie’s pension revisions, a Superior Court judge has ruled that about 800,000 retired public employees are not entitled to increases based on the cost of living.

The ruling by Superior Court Judge Douglas Hurd in Mercer County affects all current and future retirees in pension systems funded by the state, including state workers and judges as well as local police, firefighters and teachers.

The pension law the governor signed last June says current and future retirees will not get any cost of living adjustments — better known as COLAS — until the pension funds become stable, which is not expected until at least 2040.

25 Civil Rights Groups and Conservative Leaders Urge FCC to End Practice of Predatory Prison Phone Rates

With a joint letter and a press call, civil rights groups and conservative leaders have united to urge the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to reform prison phone rates.

Making calls from prison is extremely expensive and the cost to consumers has nothing to do with the cost of the phone service provided. The high rates of prison phone calls are the result of contracts between prisons and telephone companies that are awarded based not on the cheapest rates but on which company can provide the largest commission to the prison.

“Small gestures that keep love and friendships growing, like a phone call on Mother’s Day or wishing happy birthday to your kids, are often the only way for many inmates to keep those close relationships alive,” said Wade Henderson, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. “But many prisons don’t view these precious ties as rehabilitative or lifesaving. Instead, they view them as revenue generators – ways to pad their bottom line. This issue transcends party and ideology. We collectively represent millions of American households who are committed to reforming this outrageous and predatory practice.”

26 Former Alabama Democratic Rep. Artur Davis has turned in his Democratic Party card as he prepares to register for the GOP in Virginia.

The switch was rumored for some time following his departure from Democratic politics in 2010. Davis left political circles after his unsuccessful run for governor in Alabama. He lost in the 2010 primaries, and generating hostility from some fellow Democrats who disliked his effort to avoid identity politics.

The winning Democrat was trounced by the Republican candidate in the general election.

“If I were to run [for office], it would be as a Republican … [because] wearing a Democratic label no longer matches what I know about my country and its possibilities,” Davis announced Tuesday on his blog.

Jo Ann Nardelli, a state committeewoman and founding president of the Blair County Federation of Democratic Women, has switched her political affiliation to the GOP, citing her Catholic faith and President ObamaÂ’s embrace of gay marriage as reasons.

During a press conference last week, Nardelli cited President ObamaÂ’s recent announcement in support of gay marriage as a central reason for her defection, endorsed Mitt Romney for president and changed her party registration to Republican, The Altoona Mirror reported.

A woman shot and killed her husband because he made an obscene gesture at her, according to police.

Tracey Grissom, 30, from Northport, Alabama, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of her husband Hunter Daniel Grissom, 28.

Sheriff Ted Sexton says the couple had a history of domestic violence.

According to the arrest warrant, Grissom was driving to work when she saw her ex-husband at a boat landing.

She stopped to take a photo of him for litigation related to their divorce.

Sheriff Sexton says several witnesses watched as the man made an obscene gesture and the woman opened fire around 8am yesterday morning.

Authorities say the woman called 911 after using all her ammunition and told them she shot her ex-husband.

Hunter Grissom was previously charged with first degree rape, first degree sodomy, unlawful imprisonment and other drug-related charges, Sergeant Andy Norris with the Tuscaloosa Sheriff's Office said.

53 The Obama campaign has released a new ad suggesting that little girls will never be able to live full lives unless the government subsidizes their birth control.

The YouTube video titled “Letters to the President: The Dreams of Our Daughters” features a mother talking about her two young daughters, six-year-old Daisy and nine-year-old Caroline, in a letter to President Obama.

She thanks him for the HHS mandate, which requires all religious institutions and other businesses to include free coverage for birth control, sterilization and abortifacient drugs even if it violates their deeply held religious beliefs.

While no overt mention of the Catholic Church is made, the mother in the ad complains that she is “upset” that birth control is still controversial in 2012 – making no reference to the fact the president picked the fight with the Catholic institutions.

The mother then compares birth control with using cough medicine.

“This is just one reason why I am so passionate about getting you re-elected this year,” the mother says. “We need a president who will stand up for women’s health … The dreams of all our daughters are at stake.”

54 Canada: Severed foot sent to party office

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) -- A severed human foot was mailed to the headquarters of Canada's Conservative Party and another body part was discovered when police intercepted a second suspicious package, police said Tuesday.

Police were called shortly after a receptionist opened a blood-soaked box at the headquarters of Prime Minister Stephen Harper's party. The first officers to arrive saw what appeared to be blood stains on the package and immediately called in a special hazardous-material unit. When the specialists opened the package, police found the severed foot inside.

Police said the package was addressed to the Conservative Party of Canada and not to a specific person. Harper's office is not located at the party headquarters.

I stipulate that Obama didn't write it because, he can't write.  He didn't write his books, he didn't write a single article at the Harvard Law Review and he never authored a single piece of legislation.  So, I stipulate that he's a functional illiterate.

But exactly what brain damaged member of the Obama brain trust wrote that with a straight face?

In all fairness, that was the translator as I recall. Still, it's one more parallel to the Mr. Peanut presidency.

94 Artur Davis on why he might run as a Republican: I have regularly criticized an agenda that would punish businesses and job creators with more taxes just as they are trying to thrive again. I have taken issue with an administration that has lapsed into a bloc by bloc appeal to group grievances when the country is already too fractured: frankly, the symbolism of Barack Obama winning has not given us the substance of a united country. You have also seen me write that faith institutions should not be compelled to violate their teachings because faith is a freedom, too. You’ve read that in my view, the law can’t continue to favor one race over another in offering hard-earned slots in colleges: America has changed, and we are now diverse enough that we don’t need to accommodate a racial spoils system. And you know from these pages that I still think the way we have gone about mending the flaws in our healthcare system is the wrong way—it goes further than we need and costs more than we can bear. ------------------- http://tinyurl.com/7yxqakm

Not one good thing will come out of this.  A teenage life is over, with no chance for redemption and GZ's life is never going to resemble normal again.

What would be nice, is if the MFM would find the stones to slap themselves about the head and neck for their obvious race-baiting and lack of actual reporting during this entire mess.  I'm not asking them to dance on the grave of a teen, but his lifestyle needs to be acknowledged and the possibility that he was under the influence of the Drank that night needs to be fully investigated and reported.  The MFM needs to acknowledge they pushed a "sweet, cuddly" image contrary to actual facts.

The British were getting no where with Ulta and were at least two years away from cracking it until the Poles shared what they knew with them. The British may not have ever cracked it or been greatly delayed without the help from the Poles. The Poles he cited had to escape Poland, hide and work in Vichy France, avoid the Italian fascists and escape to England.

There was one on exhibit at the National Cryptological Museum ( Ft. Meade) for a while.

139 An interesting parallel between the conversation about Enigma and CockZuckerberg. The people at Bletchley built up large personnel files on each member of the enemy forces as they decoded little pieces of day-to-day message traffic (Sometimes they took less precautions with personnel messages). The bottom line is that when I first saw Facebook and the bizarre desire of people to publish their life for the world to see, it reminded me of the Bletchley Park folks. Except there was no covert action or decryption required. The privacy level and amount of data that people put on machines that somebody else owns (FB) is appalling. If I was operating a foreign intelligence service, I would put as many hackers as possible on FB to be "friends" with various important people and exploit the data. I've hardly ever used the FB for that reason. I despise FB and the Google communist kids too.

So the insult is not surprising. (Now to go out on a limb...) There was a lot of Polish anti-Semitism in the 20's and 30's , so it may have been  a Jewish writer with no ability to to distinguish between dislike/hatred of a people and a policy of deliberate extermination.

182 156 Posted by: RioBravo at May 30, 2012 08:52 AM (eEfYn) My mother and her side of the family survived the death camps. Frankly, it was no accident that they were located in Poland since a) it had the largest Jewish community in Europe, b) was near the other large Jewish populations of Hungary and the USSR, and c) was relatively isolated from Western Europe Unfortunately, the Poles in general were notorious anti-semites as well as the Lithuanians and Latvians, many of whom were the camp guards and even by German eyewitness accounts more brutal than they were. Now with all that sad preamble, there were many righteous Poles and others who saved or tried to save Jewish lives. Jan Karski is a shining example of that and tried in vain to warn an indifferent west - including Franklin Roosevelt who knew what was happening and did nothing. So, in sum, for SCOAMF to say what he said, especially in light of the late Jan Karski, whom he was allegedly paying tribute to, is just an egregious effrontery.

202 LOUISA, Ky. — For generations, coal has been king in this Appalachian town. It provided heat, light and jobs for the hundreds of people who worked in the nearby coal mines and the smoke-coughing Big Sandy power plant that burned their black bounty.

“Have you lost your mind?” State Representative Rocky Adkins, a Democrat and one of Kentucky’s most powerful politicians, thundered at Michael G. Morris, the chairman of the plant’s operator, American Electric Power, during an encounter last summer. “You cannot wave the white flag and let the environmentalists and regulators declare victory here in the heart of coal country.”

The fight has even become an issue in the presidential campaign, with the industry blaming President Obama and the Environmental Protection Agency for the onslaught, and Mitt Romney, the presumptive Republican nominee, hinting that he would roll back some of the rules.

Let's see who coal country votes for this time

219 If I was operating a foreign intelligence service, I would put as many hackers as possible on FB to be "friends" with various important people and exploit the data.

233 I learned this weekend that the preference cascade for Obama hasn't totally shifted yet. We went over to some friends for boiled crawfish and beer. I'm sure they didn't vote for Obama last time, but they aren't on board with recognizing him as a SCOAMF. We talked about how we hoped he lost the election and why. How Romney wasn't our first choice but that he(anyone) was better than Obama for our children's future, etc. But then, they started saying how Obama was a great speaker and how inspirational he was in 2008. And I wasn't having any of it...and then- Then the pursed lips came out and silence fell. I'd gone one step too far, you see. They needed, and remember they had voted for Mc Cain last time, some little scrap of niceness to be thrown Obama's way. Otherwise, utter rejection of Obama as President was too, what?, racial? Not nice? So, I made a joke about his teleprompter. We all laughed and everything went back to normal. So, fellow morons, remember--most people don't see Obama as a total SCOAMF. If you're trying to convince someone, especially someone who voted for Obama last time, give them something vaguely nice to hang on to- Obama is a good speaker. A good guy just terribly mistaken, etc. Your pitch will be that much more effective. I guessing the preference cascade will not be publicly recognized until after the election. In the meantime, make sure you acknowledge that the Grey Poupon sure was nice on the shit sandwich that is Obama and his administration.

The white union drones in Philly who voted for he JEF last time are NOT going to do so this year. Obama is greatly disliked in this community as well. His only fans are among the Dem political elite, the self-hating white Dem yuppies, and the 'hood. I'll never underestimate the Philly fraud machine but they may have to do so much work that it would be embarrassingly obvious. (Or would be if Dems were capable of embarrassment). Whether or not the new voter ID law is upheld (and enforced) is the trillion-dollar question.

272 Just left this note on the Polish government website: Dear Mr. Prime Minister: In light of the shockingly insensitive comments made by President Obama, I would like to extend a since apology on behalf of my fellow citizens. They were a slap in the face to the legacy of heroism and sacrifice of the late Jan Karski. Unfortunately, our president lacks the intellectual gravitas to fully appreciate this and sadly was brought up by parents and mentors who have steeped him with the poisonous teachings of hatred of western values an the morally bankrupt values of moral and cultural relativism. He has abandoned our allies and embraced our enemies in a bid to "correct" his perceived "failings" of America and the west. Considering his abrogation of our previous commitment to provide missile defense systems to your country, this insult, shocking though it is, should almost come as no surprise. I will close by saying that I hope you recognize that President Obama's words are no way reflective of the attitudes of the vast majority of Americans who understand the legacy of Jan Karski and who value the friendship and alliance of our country and yours. Hopefully, with the coming administration, we can once again renew our ties and preserve and honor the legacy of Jan Karski and all the heroes of the Polish resistance. Dziekuje, and very best wishes,

The Boston Herald reports: “I was the first nursing mother to take a bar exam in the state of New Jersey,” Warren told an audience at the Chicago Humanities Festival in 2011, in a video posted on the CHF website. When asked how Warren knows that, her campaign said: “Elizabeth was making a point about the very serious challenges she faced as a working mom — from taking an all-day bar exam when she was still breast-feeding, to finding work as a lawyer that would accommodate a mom with two small children.” The Herald goes on to point out that women have been taking the bar exam in New Jersey since 1895, and a spokeswoman for the New Jersey Judiciary says she is "not aware" if the state tracked the nursing habits of those taking the bar. 384 President Obama will not be campaigning in Wisconsin's gubernatorial recall election, Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter said this morning, but he's not the "secret weapon" there anyway.
Cutter also denied that the results in the Wisconsin race would make any difference for Democrats in the presidential election in November, adding that it was just a "gubernatorial race of a guy who got recalled." "A challenger trying to get him out of office, has nothing to do with President Obama at the top of the ticket," Cutter said.

I saw that last night (with Niall Ferguson).  It was great ... up until the end when he started in on the global warming crap. It almost destroyed what was, otherwise, a very good and interesting piece and well-constructed.  He couldn't help himself, though.  He had to take a shot at "the skeptics" and tried to point out local pollution as some sort of proof.  A real shame.

He also missed one of the major differences between East and West (and between Judeo-Christian culture and islam) in that we are oriented around growth and advancement while eastern cultures are oriented about stability - and islam is centered on stagnation.

“The president was making investments for the country, because he’s not going to cede an entire industry to China and India,” Cutter said. “And as a result the company — country is prospering.”

400 years of pogroms were mostly under Russian rule. I really don't think the Poles were in any position to enthusiastically support anything the Germans did during WWII. Support was common in the Baltics and the Ukraine.

I still don't understand how free market economics can possibly constitute atonement for anything. That makes no sense to me.

Mostly it's because Poland was nearly 1/3 Jewish.  That's where the Jews were, so to speak.

Poland has good and bad in its past.  Jews were invited into Poland because we were unceremoniously tossed out of Britain (after having developed the banking and trading needed and the Brits decided to have it all for themselves).

Interestingly, Jews are explicitly mentioned twice in the Magna Carta - with regards to obligations that heirs maintain to Jewish lenders.

Personally, I'm glad that my family was subject to pogroms in Russia and Ukraine and forced to move to America.  It was one of the best things that happened to us.

449 Team Romney: Not gonna play repudiation game

Mitt Romney's refusal to repudiate Donald Trump sends a signal, both to Democrats and the voting public: With the nation's future at stake in this November's election, Romney will not accommodate calls that he disown supporters who make ill-considered, unpopular, or sometimes outrageous statements on matters not fundamental to the campaign.

Romney aides believe that cooperating with Democrats and media figures who are demanding a Trump disavowal would most certainly lead to more calls for more disavowals of other figures in the future -- leaving Romney spending as much time apologizing for his supporters as campaigning for president.  Team Romney views it as a silly and one-sided game designed to distract voters from the central issue of the race, which they remain convinced will be President Obama's handling of the economy.

By one-sided, they mean not only that Obama has not disavowed SuperPAC contributor Bill Maher for a number of Maher's statements that were particularly insulting to Republican women.  They also mean the press, with, as Team Romney see it, questionable associations of its own. Has David Gregory, moderator of NBC's "Meet the Press," repudiated his colleague Al Sharpton, the MSNBC host with a decades-long record of incendiary statements and actions?  And has, say, the New York Times columnist Gail Collins repudiated her colleague Charles Blow, who once wrote to Romney, "Stick that in your magic underwear"?  Romney, his team believes, understands that the calls for him to repudiate Trump over the issue of birtherism -- and future calls to repudiate this or that supporter next week or next month over some other issue -- are at the core all about politics.

The heaviest polar ice in more than a decade could postpone the start of offshore oil drilling in the Arctic Ocean until the beginning of August, a delay of up to two weeks, Shell Alaska officials said Â…

The summer ice melt in the Arctic has often reached record levels in recent years in what many scientists believe is a sign of climate change.

But this year a high pressure zone over the coast of Alaska, low winter temperatures and certain ocean currents have combined to bring unusually large amounts of ice not only to AlaskaÂ’s northern coast, but farther south in the Bering Sea as well, National Weather Service officials said.

Just Denmark, essentially.

Jews were hated all over Europe and had laws banning ownership of property, freedom of movement, freedom of residence (the Pale of Russia, for example) - all sorts of things (usually after Jews were invited in to build up certain industries for the host country).  America has stood almost unique in the world (once again) in that Jews have been treated like everyone else, here.  That's a good part of the reason that America became the first nuclear power.

You do realize Poland was half occupied by the Soviet Union in 1939, right?  I ask because the Soviet invasion of Poland is often not mentioned when people discuss Hitler's simultaneous invasion from the West.  So complicity in Poland was a lot more complex.  You had the Axis and the 'Allies' but really the future Warsaw Pact.  There were no good guys after 1939.

Fortunately for me, my Polish ancestors left in 1919.  The ones who remained have some nauseating stories to tell.
