Happy Monday.

European markets' initially rally this morning (after the pro-Euro Greek election this weekend) was brief.

Friday, Russia was sending attack helicopters to Syria. Today, they're sending two troop ships with marines.

Here's some sunscreen and sunburn treatment tips if, like me, you burn easy.

That's all I got. Maybe Vic I'll be by in a bit.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is June 18, 2012.  On this day in 1812 the United States declared war on Great Britain in what became known as the War of 1812.  Neither country needed this war but in the end it did help cement the notion that the U.S. was, in fact, an independent country.

2 McCain calls lack of aid to Syrian rebels “shameful”.   He and his butt buddy Graham have done everything they can do to get us involved in that civil war. I say kiss my ass you to shit-for-brains.  We donÂ’t have a dog in that fight and the days of us getting involved in every pissant conflict in the world need to come to an end.  What is really shameful is the fact that you are still in office despite being dumber than a bagful of cheap Chinese hammers.

3 Conservatives win the election in Greece.  What does this mean in the end?  Only time will tell but something tells me that the myth of austerity will continue and any bailout will just delay the inevitable and help drag down Germany.  It is time people realized that socialism and communism do not work.  Either learn and end it, or suffer the consequences.

4 Parents sue TX school alleging that school officials called their 8 year old son “smelly” and forcibly gave him a shower.  I suspect that all is not as alleged in this suit and we have a case of “jackpot lawyering” here but it does remind me of one thing.  When I was on the Saratoga CV-60 we had an individual who was “smelly” and refused to take a shower.  He got a fire hose shower on the lower level of the machinery spaces.

5 Senate Democraps moving forward on yet another home mortgage refinancing bill.  Shit why not?  All the others did not work and are only throwing money in a hole.  LetÂ’s do some more.  The housing market is never going to recover until the government gets its commie hands out of it.  And Fannie and Freddie need to be allowed to go under and the government get out of that business as well.  The big question is how many RINOs will sign on with them.

9 WaPO crying bloody crocodile tears over lack of chicken workers in Alabama since new law on illegal migrants. These kinds of articles always make me laugh as they complain about workers and “jobs Americans will not do”.  None of these liberal assholes will say the real problem.  Americans will not do it for peanuts.  What really gets me is the damn liberal papers should be praising these laws because it helps raise the wages of poor unskilled people in this country.   It just shows that the average knowledge base of liberals is lower than the pay scale for illegals in chicken plants.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Supreme Court may release decisions on Obamacare and the AZ illegals law today.  Last Monday SCOTUSBLOG did live blogging for the decisions released then.  I suspect they will do it again today.  Here is a link.

Thanks, Gabe and Vic.

Today is the birthday of  Mae Busch, an Austrailian actress who began her career at the Keystone studio in a number of Mack Sennett two-reelers.  Famously, she broke up the engagement between Sennett and his star comedienne Mabel Normand when Normand found the two of them in bed together.  She then moved on to MGM, but walked out on her contract in 1926 and had a nervous breakdown.  If you've ever seen the Laurel and Hardy comedy Sons of the Desert, she's Hardy's wife.

Like they said - not much today.  Hope all you 'rons and 'ronettes have a wonderful day.

26 I'm not for rushing into Syria either, but we seem rather placid about Russian troop deployment to the Middle East. Given our own constant intervention lately, we don't exactly have legal high ground, but I recall in 73 Nixon had a much tougher response--something like a DEFCON 3 nuclear alert.

Was that appropriate then or would it be appropriate now? I'm not the Prez, but it certainly seems as though we shouldn't be saying, "Whatever. Knock yourself out."

40 #12  That is interesting.  I know it sounds like whiny lawyer types suing,  but there is something to be said about holding schools accountable for their recruiting tactics.  Back in the 1970's I took a beginning education course as an elective and was heavily recruited by the head of the department to declare education as my major.  He blatantly lied to me and said there were plenty of good jobs available.

My mother was the dean of a small private college at the time and she had education graduates,  good students,  who could only get jobs at Indian reservations in North Dakota or southside Chicago.  I had no prospects of moving as my husband was employed,  and those were NOT good jobs.  I realized then that they will LIE about jobs in order to keep their numbers of students large and the budget money rolling in.

My daughter has a useless Masters in Library Science through this same trap.   I did not know she was entering grad school until it was a done deal (she was married at the time) and I asked her if she had checked out job prospects.  Again,  the university lied about the number of placements they got,  and I didn't realize she had not investigated independently.  (We parents tend to try not to interfere when children are grown and married.)

So my personal position is that if this lawsuit makes schools a bit nervous,  it's a good thing.  And for parents,  before your child invests heavily in a major,  check out the job prospects through scources other than the college or university.

41 As far as Americans not working for the same wages as illegals is say.. No.. DUH!

The flood of millions of illegal workers have kept prices artificially low for decades.  Do you think there would be a "Dollar Menu" at McDonalds if their kitchen wasn't filled with illegals?

So, I say pay Americans to cut up your chickens and I'll pay the real price... more than likely, you will find a way to automate most of the process, something your industry hasn't wanted to invest in because you have cheap immigrant labor.

43 "He(Romney) explained the order would become irrelevant “by virtue of my putting in place a long-term solution, with legislation which creates law that relates to these individuals such that they know what their setting is going to be, not just for the term of a president but on a permanent basis.”

Sounds reasonable. Seal the border(which he has stated will be his priority) then deal with the illegals here through legislation. No one will be happy entirely, but there it is.

I don't see how he could have played this differently, without being pegged as a 'racist'. He's not falling for the trap.  Good for him, although I know this can drive some folks nuts.

In essence the would-be spokesmen say that people should largely stop having babies, old folk should be put to work and most modern technology should be suppressed. The rich nations of the world should accept a much lower standard of living, while poor ones should accept that their scope for improving their lot will be sharply limited, forever."

72 So at 10:01AM Eastern we should see Chrissy Matthews suffer a meltdown?  I need more popcorn.

As for the Greek vote, so what.  Hollande's France wants to print more money and there is a G20 meeting.  So the EU house of fraud still stands an excellent chance of collapsing.

Meanwhile Facebook agrees to pay $10 million to charity to head off a class action.  You see people sued Facebook because of the Like function for companies like Wal-Mart and Target meanth their freinds got ad spam for such companies and there was no opt-out function.  $10 million to charity.  Talk about cheap.

I susbscribe to the view that mammaries size B or below tend to be more sensitive and responsive.  Also, it seems that what more modestly endowed gals lack in cup size tends to be compensated for in their caboose section.

You have to weigh these different factors judiciously, Robert.  Preferably, using both hands.

91 So, for those interested- Friday's emergency exit was because my wife's BP was so high she was being checked into the ER in Abilene (she was there with my kids so they could see my parents).  Apparently it reached 190-something over 90-something.

93 So the gubmint is experimenting on humans once again, this time by that bastion of dumfuks known as the EPA:

A full report on the research study shows that 41 other people were exposed to what the EPA says are harmful or lethal levels of small particles, with some enduring up to 10 times the EPAÂ’s declared safe level of 35 micrograms per cubic meter of air. The EPA human experiments described were conducted from January 2010 to June 2011, according to the information obtained by JunkScience.com on a Freedom of Information Act request, and ended three months before Ms. JacksonÂ’s congressional testimony, but she still asserted dramatic claims of PM2.5′s lethality — thousands of deaths at stake and hundreds of billions in economic consequences from the deaths and disabilities caused by small particles.

According to the congressional testimony of Lisa Jackson, these experiments risked the lives of these 42 people.<snip>

113 I was living just outside of NOLA during Katrina. Once the cleanup started crews advertised for workers at $15-$20/hr. After a few weeks hundreds of illegals were shipped in by subcontractors and on their own to work and live 12 to a room. The work crews quit advertising and the pay dropped to $9-$10/hr. A lot of that work was government subsidized and *wink wink* against the law to hire illegals. A lot of New Orleans natives had lost their income and could have used the work.

One thing he said really stuck in my mind; that (paraphrasing) as distasteful as the precedent may be, he had to stick with it. With that kind of reasoning, why not stick with the precedent set by Dred Scott?! Sheesh. Anyway, as for severability, the idjits who concocted this monster left it out. So, what's to argue? In know, I know. I distinctly remember Bader-Meinhoff sounding so desperate to at least keep the mandate in. The analogy of chopping up broccoli and keeping the head was particularly ironic, given Scalia's and Kennedy's argument about the government being able to force us to eat it. HAH!!!!

Harvard Law School professor Roberto Unger, who taught President Barack Obama classes such as Jurisprudence and Reinventing Democracy, said last month that his former student has betrayed liberals and should lose the presidency in November.

“President Obama must be defeated in the coming election,” Unger said in a sit-down video posted to his YouTube account in May, which also attacked the Republican party.

“If [The Republicans] had their way, inequality would be even greater than it is now,” Unger said, before acknowledging that a Romney win would lead to some undesirable “judicial and administrative appointments.”

But those costs, to Unger, pale in comparison to the risks of an Obama second term.

“The Democratic Party has no new direction. … [Obama] has failed to advance the progressive cause,” Unger said. “He has spent trillions of dollars to rescue the moneyed interests and left workers and homeowners to their own devices.”

154 Obama is so desperate for re-election votes, he not only spent his administration prohibiting border patrol enforcement, suing any sovereign State for effecting protection from illegal alien crime, prosecuting any law enforcement agency or officer for enforcing law. He not only provided the Mexican criminal terrorists with firearms to kill Americans and US Border Patrol agents. He not only advertised internationally how "easy" it is to visit the USA. He not only awarded employment opportunity specifically for ILLEGAL ALIENS stateside.

It would not be unreasonable to expect that his administration and re-election campaigners are providing the transportation for illegal aliens. Obama Express.

US Citizenship is tossed under the Obama bus.

As if Hugo did anything to benefit workers and homeowners, either.

Promises aren't worth spit, regardless of who makes them. Politicians parrot whatever they think will buy a vote, placate the masses, or brow beat the masses into submission with a Patriot Act when "kinder, gentler" doesn't sell well enough.

Don't stay stuck on stupid. Bailouts will always be usurped by the most corrupt and powerful forces on earth, the parasitic organizations that cause and produce rampant demise.

Bailouts are NEVER going to benefit or "rescue" the small businesses that are domestically invested, nor the citizen tax payers ("earning less than $250K" according to Obama & to Romney's calculated rhetoric regarding tax breaks). We the People comprise the government's target, squeezing blood out of turnips.

The business of superimposing the word "population" over the identity of "citizen" or "people" is nothing new given Marxism. "There are no more 'peoples' but only 'populations'. There are no more 'States' but merely continental regions." The Soviets did it, and such remains the ploy of the EU as well. (Meanwhile, Americans want to think the cold war is over, when it is the EU that has replaced the USSR with a kinder, gentler version.)

The issue shouldn't be Romney - is anyone surprised that he is not hard core anti-amnesty? - but the way Obama has once against utterly shredded the US Constitution with seeming immunity from any consequences whatsoever.

To read some bloggers or hear some radio hosts, we may as well just hand the election over to Obama at this point and go about enjoying what little time we have left.  All because of a carefully calculated political stunt meant to put Romney in an embarrassing position.  I wish the Right would resist this sort of obvious manipulation by a Leftist that would as soon hand the administration of America to the UN.

Let's face it: we're a long, long way from getting the kind of Repub candidate we need. Mutt Romney isn't even close, nor is he likely to improve as time goes on.

But the major issue is Bark Obama, who has taken for himself the power of a banana-republic dictator. He's Papa Doc Duvalier with a much larger stage to perform on, and with infinitely more resources to squander.

232 Mornin' 'rons and 'ronettes.  Another wasted Monday, which I guess is better than being wasted on a Monday.  Never saw the appeal to such, but that's me.

The Katrina stuff reminds me of the former NOLAites I've run into that evac'd and never went back.  Several told me, point-blank, it was the best thing that ever happened to them.  Each was a good, productive, solid person.  I visited myself in '10, and you could still see signs of it--including those spray-painted diagrams the S&R folks put on buildings so they knew which had survivors...or corpses...in them.  The place just looked, I don't know, trashed, and not just because of tourist/party traffic.

Sad.  Reminder, Mr. Nagin, it's not just chocolate in that shade.  Whole lotta folks in that town need to rethink their life choices.

Question #2 We know the Justice Department isn't interested, but will the cowards in Congress address, in the words of Thomas Sowell, this "censored race war"?

245 @9 WaPO crying bloody crocodile tears over lack of chicken workers in Alabama since new law on illegal migrants. These kinds of articles always make me laugh as they complain about workers and “jobs Americans will not do”. None of these liberal assholes will say the real problem. Americans will not do it for peanuts

This quote nails it down for me:

“I am for doing good to the poor, but...I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed...that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.”
Benjamin Franklin

273 266 Anyone with an interest in higher education, there is a huge brouhaha over the sudden ouster of University of Virginia President Teresa Sullivan last week. ---- I read up on it last week at a couple of places. My read on it was that the Board of Trustees was not happy with her leadership. They referred to needing bolder leadership and there was also criticism of her efforts in fundraising. She was very popular with faculty, students -- that can be a sign (when coupled with failure on fundraising) of a president who doesn't want to really *do* anything. Lack of vision/leadership is usually code for "you don't have any big ideas that are going to attract external funding." One year is a pretty quick time to pull the ripcord on a university president, otoh Purdue waited far too long with their failed President Cordova (also happens to be a woman fwiw), who I know for a fact did not want to do any fundraising or even stewardship of gifts from their last campaign. So my gut says to applaud UVa's BoT for getting rid of her sooner rather than later.
