Happy Tuesday.

ABC News has sources that say Sen. Rubio has not been asked to complete any questionnaires or been asked to turn over any financial documents typically required of potential vice presidential candidates. Conclusion? He's not on the VP short list. There's a bit of hedging since we are, after all, two months out from the convention.

Speaker Boehner and Sen. Lieberman not only managed to save the D.C. voucher program, but expanded it, in response to President Obama's attempt to kill it completely. The continued vitality of the program was important to students and parents. It was also important because it is one of the longest-running school choice programs, which means it has the most robust data showing that school choice has better outcomes than just giving lump sums to the teachers unions. There was some indication that Obama was trying to kill it for that reason alone.

While you were sleeping, the Senate managed to wrangle a possible way forward for the stalled farm bill. Even if the Senate manages to pass it, however, the House would have to get on board.

ICYMI yesterday, the Roger Clemens steroid perjury retrial ended yesterday with a very fast jury verdict of not guilty. Big waste of time, but I hope we've all learned a Very Important Lesson about maybe-lying to Congress, mmkay?

Newark Mayor Cory Booker is still grovelling after getting called on the carpet for derailing the President's attack on private equity.

I wonder if Booker's humiliation is making him reconsider the wisdom of remaining a member of the bunch of lying dickwipes that make the Democrat party?  Naaaahhhhh.  Just a continued babble of "thank you sir, may I have another?"

Oh, well.  Thanks for the headlines, Gabe.

Today's Hollywood anecdote:  most of Lifeboat, the 1944 film directed by Alfred Hitchcock, was shot in a giant water tank on the 20th Century-Fox lot.  To reach the boat, actors had to climb up a ladder on the side.  Very early on, it became obvious that the actress Tallulah Bankhead was not wearing panties, and the crowd watching her climb into and out of the tank kept growing each day.  At last, a 20th executive approached Hitchcock and asked if he couldn't do anything about Bankhead's attire.  Hitch said, "Certainly, dear boy, but what department should I contact?  Costumes, makeup or hairdressing?"

Hope all you 'rons and 'ronettes have a wonderful day.

Mebbe so, but we'd have to build a 535-bed prison to hold those who habitually lie to Congress, plus a good-size annex to hold outsiders -- e.g. Bark Obama, Holder, et. al. -- who routinely lie to them. And we should; why should the scum be exempt from telling the truth?

Which reminds me, Clowngress has called the bankers before them again.  Oddly enough, it is the bankers telling the truth, and Congress again trying to force them into making bad loans, which Congress will criticize them for later.

Valero could stop importing light, sweet crude to its Gulf Coast refineries as soon as 2013 and fully rely on U.S. production, Chief Executive Officer Bill Klese said at a recent industry conference.

With the rapid growth of domestic oil, Valero has projected that Gulf Coast refiners will soon run without foreign imports of light, sweet crude. Klese now says that moment could come by the end of 2013.

Professional courtesy?

Speaking of the left's fucked-up standards WRT abusing children, here's an article from my local fishwrap extolling the virtue of a creep from Texas who cyber-stalked an Indiana boy, who received death threats after an acquaintance of the stalker published his name and location online.

http://t.co/br7bQJbu

If the creep had been the Christian and the boy the gay, the same people celebrating the cyberbullying would be calling for arrests and revocation of First Amendment rights.  (And hunting down a boy three states away to bully him? That's just not something a healthy, secure adult with a rewarding life and meaningful relationships does.)

I'm so sick of the double standard.

...and it occurs to me that left along, the boy would probably outgrow some of the harsher the "anti-gay" stuff as he goes through life, much the way the "white supremecist singing twins" left their parents' beliefs behind when they went to college and experienced more of the world.  But when people want you dead, disliking them is not "phobic." Kind of like I didn't give a shit about "gay marriage" until itsproponents started vandalizing churches and bullying Mormons out of their jobs, and overturning state constitutions to impose it.

61 Anything that makes a public union mad is usually good news to the rest of us. OTOH, this kind of stuff could delay the arrival of DOOM in CA if they keep it up:

Education Reform: A judge sees something wrong when 99% of Los Angeles teachers get top ratings but only 45% of students read at grade level. But the union still doesn't get it.

Talk about a sleeper. There's a law in California that requires school districts to take student progress into account when they evaluate teachers. The statute goes back 40 years; language specifically prescribing the use of statewide tests was added to it in 1999.

83 In F-35 News, Lockheed "has agreed" to arbitration.  I'm not sure how to read that statement: does that mean they were holding out against it and have caved, or that the Union finally gave in?  I don't know.

What I do know is that roughly 3000 machinists who had not crossed the picket line (of approximately 4200 who started, which lends credence to the idea that the Union gave in) are going back to work.  Which is a good thing, all around.

There is an onslaught of radio adverts for SNAP....mainly aimed at the elderly.  I honestly think the gov't wants every single American relying on food stamps for their nutrition.  Gov't knows best.  My thought is...give the food assistance to the elderly and for the rest, make a max 5 year lifetime benefits for every other lazy couch rider out there who makes their living doing nothing.

90 Roger Clements is found innocent of lying to Congress.  I am laughing my ass off. I was sure he would be found guilty because it is rather obvious that he did lie.  But as usual the stupid federal DOJ charged him with everything but the kitchen sink and none of it stuck. I was waiting for this so that the first question I would ask is why hasn't Holder been charged with perjury yet.  Hell, they are about to cut a deal with him.

And there lies the rub, perhaps that is why they let Clements off. Why convict him of perjury in lying about something that is not a crime to begin with AND is not any of Congress's buisness either.

This is a clear case of jury nullification and I applaud the jury on this one.

91 The federal gov needs to GTF out of schools.

Vic, DC i/b]s the Federal Government, as it exists in no other jurisdiction.  The only reason they have a city council is because Congress is too busy to oversee direct operations of the City.  The Federal Government being "involved" in DC Schools is not exactly the same kind of overreach as when they interfere with local school districts elsewhere.

Also, Joe Lieberman is a liberal, but he's not quite as insane as most of the Democrats, let's not burn any bridges we don't have to.

137 WASHINGTON (AP) — For the first time, the influx of Asians moving to the U.S. has surpassed that of Hispanics, reflecting a slowdown in illegal immigration while American employers increase their demand for high-skilled workers.

The shift to increased Asian immigration, particularly of people from India, China and South Korea, coincides with changes in U.S. immigration policy dating to the 1990s that began to favor wealthy and educated workers.

So should we now stop putting everything (signs, forms, "press one for English" etc) in Spanish and start putting everything in Korean, China (all dialects) and Indian (all languages)? Or do these groups not want to be pandered to like that?

Yes.  He was primaried (from the left) and lost, then ran as an independent and won.  Yes, he still caucuses (usually) with the Democrats, but he's not quite as insane as most of the rest.

He still loves the country, he believes in a strong military, and (IIRC) he wasn't too happy with how Obamacare shook out (not that he was willing to vote against it, of course).  He's not a Conservative by any means, but he's not actually anti-American.

As for making it illegal to live in DC?  Well, it's a nice thought in theory- but how do you accomplish it in real life?  Logistically, speaking, not politically.

They share tips on how to seduce and groom young boys. Years ago a local radio guy had an undercover cop who had infiltrated their operation. They are very organized and unfortunately effective. Sandusky's MO in re: selecting and molesting little boys was straight out of the NAMBLA playbook.

That's how it usually shakes out,   though not always.      They really need to knock that off.   I don't    even care if they identify the "Asian" in question as a Muslim or not;    Asia is a big ass frigging continent.   Regional specificity is necessary to make sense of any   news story involving it.    Is he      East Asian?  Southeast Asian?  Near Eastern?  Middle Eastern?  Central Asian?  Indo Subcontinental?  Russian?    Are we looking at a North Korean sympathizer, a Muzzie terrorist, a Chinese dissident,     a Japanese otaku who's    watched     too     much Ghost in the Shell?      Jiminy H. Christmas!

Look, media: at this point everyone knows that when you just refer to a subject as "Asian," it means "Middle Eastern, probably Muslim."      It's no different than when you neglect to include the race of subjects in your crime stories, which is a red flag to anyone reading that the perpetrators were black.    Instead of prevaricating around the racial bush, just come out and say it.

I really don't know.  The police and FBI are being pretty tight-lipped about it.  I may do some digging today to see what I can find.

So far I haven't heard any news outlets release either the name or any other demographic details of the suspect, but the FBI says they're investigating "terrorist ties."

policy dating to the 1990s that began to favor wealthy and educated

Oh well, at least the Asians are like Europeans in the sense they take it as a given they would assimiliate, and abhor claiming victimized minority status.  Well, until American white liberal teachers get a hold of their kids, that then proceed to spend the rest of their lives whining about being considered a "model minority."

I think what the American-born Asian kids mean by that, incidentally, is they hate being just like White People, except maybe even whiter.  When it's SO much hipper to be called People of Color.  Oh well... we all have our cross to carry...

As soon as the voters flush this turd down into the septic of history he so richly deserves, I will special order a bumper sticker that reads:

Of course, I'll keep it taped on the inside of my rear view window, and remove it whenever I park away from home.

180 Good morning Moron Nation! My colonoscopy yesterday was a success. Yay! For those "get off my lawn types" (like me) who haven't done it, you should do it. It's not that bad, even the preparation part (which is the worst part). The miralax prep is tasteless and it is *not* viscous, so it's not a big deal to drink it... except for the sheer volume of it (I did not get the full 32 oz down for each dose, probably more like 24-28 oz each time). One thing I would recommend is to have someone else mix up the miralax so you don't have the psychological disadvantage of seeing the Schlering effect of the powder going into solution which made me think it would be hard to drink. The other thing I'd recommend is exercising a bit before your first dose and after it. It took almost 4 hrs for my dose to take effect which made me think I'd done something wrong. But it was *not* a sit in the bathroom all night sort of dealio. At least not for me. I ate pretty light (mostly soup, yogurt) two days before the prep so that may have helped. The doctor was nice, best of the batch of specialists I've dealt with during this group of tests I've been doing. I guess you need a sense of humor in that job. I told him that he was my birthday present, in lieu of a pony, so he should try to be really entertaining. And afterwards I asked him if we were engaged now. lol So do it because it's the only way I know of of catching that type of cancer.

Exonerating the football program...that's interesting. Did you hear the latest testimony from other coaches who showed up in defense of Sandusky? They said they thought it was normal for grown men to shower with boys at Penn State, they had witnessed it many times. I was halfway expecting the witness for the defense to add that he also was in the habit of asking these naked young boys in the PSU showers if they'd ever watched gladiator movies.

Saddest thing is that on my Twitter feed the person who spent the most time digging into O's EO (and finding fault with it) was Mickey Kaus. A bunch of the conservatives spent most of their time telling rank and file conservatives that they shouldn't be holding Mitt's or Rubio's feet to the fire. In many places where ID is required, yes, student ID is sufficient.  It varies by state, though.

Personally, I have a big problem with that.  Where you attend college is not necessarily your permanent residence.  What's to stop a student from California who attends Dartmouth from voting in NH    AND voting in California via absentee ballot?   It's way too loosey-goosey, in my opinion.    I think the ID to vote should be the same as the ID    one    must     use to purchase alcohol:   driver's license, military ID,    passport, or    state-issued   photo    ID for non-drivers.

But that makes me racist or something.

For as many questions as JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie DimonÂ’s recent testimony answered, there was one that it raised: WhatÂ’s with the presidential cufflinks?

Several sources have now reported that the prominent cufflinks Dimon wore during the hearing bore the seal of the President of the United States, with John Carney reporting them to be "a gift from a resident of the White House," though just who specifically remains unknown. Dimon has been known to sport government seals, including the FBI, on his cuffs as part of his "best dressed CEO” ensembles.

Better yet, maybe Dimon is reminding people that it’s President Obama that’s in fact supporting him? Even after recent criticism of the bank CEO, President Obama called Dimon "one of the smartest bankers we've got” during an interview on The View in May, according to Politico.

221 VP obviously next in line to be POTUS.

Rubio is even less prepared to maintain against if not outmaneuver Putin or anyone else than Romney is.

Keynesian Romney has over confidence in his own Ivy League lawyer-team consensus "how to fix the economy" spending tax funds, believing his VP doesn't need to be strong on the economy as Senate President so long as the VP acts the strong POTUS Senate envoy. Damned Lawyers, representing Romney their client, NOT We The People, intent on making PROFIT regardless of how the chips fall, having their cake and eating it, too. Kick the can more kindly, more gently, down the road of another administration. Love the most vile insider Federal Reserve relations; respect political obligations from endorsements and printer press fund raising. "Repo Men" @NRO

Given Romney's obligation to the Bush dynasty for endorsements since GW left office, and Romney's unwillingness to support what George Washington called The Great Cause of Liberty, I wouldn't be surprised if Romney falls back on Condi Rice, even if (or else particularly to be) seen as the GWB foreign policy third term.  Condi isn't the blithering "reset" mistranslated idiot that Hillary is. Imagine posing Putin and Rice together playing a PR cello/piano sonata. Mr. and Ms. Manners would pursue "kinder, gentler" suicidal Rules of Engagement from Office required of subordinates, enlarging the Patriot Act rather than trimming it back as originally designed to be cut.

Anyway, Condi is the only running mate whose image fills in rich white guy's glossy photo to persuade know-not voters, countering the opposition rants that Romney is a racist who hates women.

She compounds Romney's neo-conservatism. But that's the point being made from Republican Leadership, to keep amassing more opportunism for abuses of power (taking turns) while themselves enjoying "the good life" feathering their own nests, Congress members insulating themselves against prosecution for gross dereliction of duty: Don't Ask, Don't Tell "reset".

224 Rubio not being vetted? There's a reason for that: he's not qualified per the Constitution. Rubio is not a natural born citizen. His parents werent citizens at the time of his birth and didn't become citizens until he was 4, so while he was born in the US (making him a native-born citizen) he is not a natural born citizen. Neither is Bobby Jindal. I'm sure either one would make excellent presidents, but they're not qualified for the same reason Obama is not qualified.

Tough talk on border control is merely cover for one amnesty plan or another. If a politician does not provide some specific proposals for changes in actual border control processes/policies then they are not serious.

Somehow we (the country in general)  have managed to have heated debates about immigration reform without any actual discussion of what the immigration policy should be.

That is how many immigrants should be admitted legally? Who should they be?

The only thing that is clear is that the leadership of both major political parties favor some type of amnesty.

To me if there are jurisdictions near the border (especially) that have a really bad illegal problem, especially if they are criminal elements, and the local LEO wants to do stings to identify and catch them, that should be facilitated - certainly not blocked - by the feds. I also think they should be nailing employeres and doing raids of those places from time to time. So applying more aggressive tactics locally is fine with me, depending on need and resources.

263 251 Y-not, have you been following the UVA thing to which I linked at 120 and 125? ----- Yeah, I read about it in some higher ed journals and skimmed some of the MSM and Daily Caller stuff. Maybe it has to do with the scientific misconduct thing to some extent, but my read on it was that she was not a very good fundraising-oriented president. She sounds like she was really popular with faculty, which is often (not always) a sign of a president who does not want to DO anything other than maintain the status quo. Reading the early statemetns from the board members, it sounds like fundraising was down significantly and they found her not "bold" enough. The two go hand in hand. If the Board wanted/needed to go into campaign and the president did not want to start/bolster areas of academic excellence, especially ones in areas that hte community/business wanted, then there's no way they'd succeed at a big campaign. So I think if she had been wildly popular with the board the old NSF stuff would not have mattered. I'm sure they knew about it when they hired her.

Maybe she thought she didn't have to do any more fundraising b/c they were close to finished, but I read that their fundraising totals were down. Also, just fyi, they report that only 9% of their operating budget comes from the state. That's ludicrous. Purdue hired a president (also happened to be a women first-time president fwiw) who came in and REFUSED to do much fundraising or even to do the stewardship of gifts raised in their campaign that had just finished. That is unacceptable today. Universities go straight from one campaign into the silent phase of another. Presidents have got to spend most of their time fundraising and dealing with teh legislature (if it's a state school).

289 I have this sinking feeling that the Republicans are kidding themselves that they can beat Obama with another RINO. Maybe the polls will prove me wrong but Romney is an incredibly weak, gaffe-prone candidate with zero instinct for liberty arguments. Unfortunately the idiot independents decide the election, so Obama will pull out all the stops to pander to them as the election approaches

291 Mitt should go with Kleefisch from Wisconsin. Another battleground state, she just won the recall fight and it would acknowledge that Wisconsin is going the right way. It can't be Walker because it would look too opportunistic for him because the one sort of almost hit the Dems had was that he was out of state trying to run for something other than governor of Wisconsin. But he'll still more likely pick Portman.

293 Re the timing. The reports I read indicate that the board had decided the week before. I think there was dissatisfaction with her that may have come to a head because of the Warren stuff. I *think* this is the time of year most universities renew/decline executive contracts. I'm sure she was an at will employee with a multi-year "contract." They are giving her a couple of months to move on, I think. So it's not as bad a firing as the Penn State president had.

294 Personally, I think it should be Kasich, but he burned bridges.

Portman builds on the competency story. No need for "gravitas" on the ticket it is already there.

Mitt is doing the things already that will energize the base by himself. Portman doesn't have anything distracting that the Left will be able to hang on him, though of course they will try.

Posted by: blaster at June 19, 2012 10:23 AM (i2mow)

Kasich was torpedoed by fuckhead Kevin DeWine, who's been purged from the state Repub party by the Tea Party so look for there being lots of good news on how well the state's doing in the future; certainly in time for re-election.  I don't have any problem with Portman but I don't see what he brings to the Romney ticket that isn't already there.

329 Sure , Gergle.

Let's take a look at who they polled shall we ?
Sixty-four percent of likely voters surveyed after ObamaÂ’s June 15 announcement said they agreed with the policy, while 30 percent said they disagreed. Independents backed the decision by better than a two-to-one margin.

“In that Republican Party, there is a tolerance problem,” said Carmen Nieves, 27, of Albany, New York, who is of Puerto Rican heritage and participated in the Bloomberg June 15-18 survey.
“These are things that have to be done, and I’m expecting them to be done,” said Nieves. “I see a person who is doing his job.”
RACIST!

“At first I was really against it, but after sitting down and thinking about it, a lot of kids here are good kids,” Loretta Price, 65, a retiree and undecided independent voter from Ocala, Florida, said in a follow-up interview. “I think it was the right thing to do.”
RETHUGLICAN  ROBOTS ARE STEALING OLD PEOPLES MEDICATIONS!

Karis Verlander, 65, an independent from the suburbs of San Antonio, said while she agreed with ObamaÂ’s decision, she thought it was driven more by politics than core beliefs.
“He’s just playing politics with this issue,” she said. “He doesn’t really care.”

HE IS LYING BUT I STILL AGREED WITH HIM !  INDEPENDENT! FIRE CANT MELT STEEL ELEVENTY!!!!!!!!11111!!

That poll would be 1000% more useful if printed on sheets of toilet paper.

332 Aside from Mandarin Chinese, what other types of Chinese are there, precisely?

Loads, despite the best efforts of the PRC.  Between 7 and 13 main dialects, depending who counts, and God knows how many local variations, not all of which are intelligible to each other.  (In fact, it's more an exception than a rule when they can make sense of each other.)  As a hallmark, Mandarin (which has been pushed as the 'official language' for nearly 100 years) is the first most common at 850 million, while Cantonese at 70 million (!) clocks in at third place.

Folks, that's like if folks from California were completely unable to be understood when speaking by folks from anywhere else in the US.  As bad a mess as English is, Chinese in all its glory is far, far worse, and that's why I laugh my arse off any time someone insists China is taking over--they're barely unified as a nation and culture, and that's with about 4000 years of trying!

I'm not saying it's a liability to be white.  I'm saying that Romney is, let's face it, boring.    That's not a bad thing in itself, but he needs SOMEONE     at VP      who doesn't fit the preconceived Republican    image that a lot of idiots have    of    white dudes in suits.       Sarah Palin gave McLame's campaign a serious boost because she was    something new:   an energetic,   outgoing    female candidate.        Jindal's done time in the trenches -- literally, what with Katrina and all -- and he's got solid    Executive   experience.     That he's got    a darker skin tone   than Mitt     is just    good for the     cameras    that will be making a NONSTOP issue of race whether we like it or not.       That he is hella more    articulate     and intelligent     than Senile Biden is icing on the cake.

*shrug*      Just speaking my two cents.    I'm voting for Mitt regardless of who he chooses, so it doesn't really matter to me.

...

Well, unless he chooses   some   dipshit like Lindsay Graham.      Then I'll still vote for Mitt, but under    SEVERE    protest.

(Presumably to help with football recruiting as well as general pandering.) ----- In their defense, there are reasons (that we may not agree with) to try to boost their minority enrollment. I think it has less to do with football/athletics than with funding. It's sort of built into the world we live in. For one thing, when the big corporate recruiters identify schools to work with, they factor in the demographics of the students/graduates. So a place like Purdue is at a disadvantage than an engineering school with more (U.S.) minorities in their programs. Federal granting agencies, such as NSF, also look at demographic info. It sucks, but it's where we are. I can't remember, but I *think* the Latino center was built and mostly funded with private money. Not sure about the BCC.

I used to go to Chinese action flicks at a theater in the San Gabriel area. It had two screens and usually ran different features on each but for a big release like a new Jackie Chan they would have a screen for Mandarin and the other for Cantonese.

The best thing Congress could do for D.C. is to let the appropriate pieces go back under Virginia and Maryland. Then at least the Virginia side would have adult supervision.

That was alread done for the Virginia side.  Problem is, Maryland doesn't want retrocession of their portion.

398 soothsayer. If a Jew breaks the law we do not hold his prosecution against the politician. But, at the risk of drawing fire, FDR turned Jews away who were trying to escape to the US before and during WWII. If a Jew was escaping unfair political or religious prosecution, then I would hold it against the politician that refused them entry. I do not think that applies to the vast majority of illegals, but in defense of what Rubio said, if my family were being prosecuted either by Hitler or Castro, then I would do anything to get here with my family.

Posted by: Thunderb at June 19, 2012 07:22 AM (Dnbau)

399 @ 385

Rubio's family was given asylum when they fled a Communist dictator.

Obama's policy opens the doors to the voter fraud necessary to install himself as a Communist dictator.

Rubio's problem with conservatives is  his stubborn inability to recognize the difference.

403 When you're trying to pass yourself off as the newest first-world hyperpower, using a still rather centralized command economy, and have ethnic divisions that make our issues here seem tame, yeah, it's a mighty big problem.

Another approach: Imagine instruction booklets repeating themselves seven times before even getting to 'foreign' languages!

----- But the Chinese system of writing isn't tied to reproducing the sound of the words, the characters are ideograms. So shouldn't the instruction booklet only need to write it up once -- doesn't matter if everyone says the words differently as long as they understand the characters the same way?

407 @385  What would you do if you couldn't feed your family? Not saying we shouldn't keep illegals out - with maybe a Braceros program like Ike had to meet our needs and help them as possible. Don't think we have needs - that food you're eating, do you think US kids and unemployeds are going to pick that for you? Only if we stop telling kids how special they are and also rachet back welfare payments and/or put some expectations onto the payments.

Ohy, bullshit on the "who's gonna pick your food" . The machines that pick the food are doing quite ok so far. Certain Southern states that have chased out the illegals are doing ok farm-wise as well.

I'm also sick of this meme that every single illegal alien is a godsend to this country. There may be some good ones but the bad ones cancel them out. Theer arer plenty of sponges , parasites, and outright criminals coming here who are a drain on the country.

I just don;t understand why we have to be the only country in the world that cannot have a controlled border.

Play by the rules, welcome to America. If not, see ya wouldn't want to be ya.

And I'm not denouncing myself either.

409 There is a program on HGTV, "househunters international".  It is showing Americans that, in many countries, you cannot buy property unless you were born there.  As more and more people see this kind of information, they are asking questions about why everyone from south america and china and europe can come in and buy our real estate.

411 As far as corey booker is concerned, he told the truth, he said what he believed.   Just like Adrien Fenty changed DC for the better but obviously that isn't what whoever wanted, he lost his election.

If securing a place in an administration means you have to say things you don't believe then who wants the place in that administration, booker did himself and his career an enormous favor.

413 @412 I'm no fan of illegals. A Braceros program like we used to have would take away another bleeding heart argument for letting illegals stay. And they wouldn't get to vote Democrat either. Or get welfare. Whether there was any work for them would be left up to individual farm decisions on whether to go mechanized or pay day rates to ag labor. Or for other fields of employment to make the same decision.
Mechanized is expensive and has overwhelming benefits but it isn't always possible or advisable. My wife's family used to grow cabbage and as recently as 15 years ago when they stopped, there was no effective cabbage harvester although there were patents on some. A quick google shows that in North Carolina they still mostly harvest by hand. Be glad to see summer ag work by US kids to give them an appreciation of what hard work is and where food comes from. OTOH, tomato harvesters have given us roughly cubic shaped (optimal packing density), leather skinned, unripe, tasteless produce that's gassed with nitrous to fool us into thinking it is actually ripe.
