Happy Wednesday.

Something something something in contempt.

April jobs openings had their biggest drop---down 325,000---since September 2008. However, economists---the little dreamers---seem hesitant to say that this is important. No, really.

Wikiwanker Assange is hiding out in Ecuador's London embassy, begging for asylum. He really, really doesn't want to go to trial on those rape charges, huh?

7 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Wednesday June 20, 2012.   Today is the Summer Solstice, which will actually occur at 07:09 pm EDT.  The Summer Solstice is the day of the year in which the Sun reaches its highest point above the Equator. It is also officially the first day of Summer, although most people say June is the start of Summer.  And on this day in 1837 Victoria became queen of England ushering in the Victorian Age which may say was the pinnacle of the British Empire.

11 Some more bullshit to piss you off this morning.

A U.S. military investigation is recommending that as many as seven U.S. troops face administrative punishments, but not criminal charges, in the burning of Korans at a U.S. base in Afghanistan in February, The Associated Press has learned.

U.S. military officials said the classified report and recommendations for disciplinary action against the service members involved were delivered to the Pentagon more than a week ago. They have been turned over to the Army and Navy secretaries. No final decisions have been made.

These were copies of the Koran that had been defaced by prisoners and the so-called proper disposal is supposed to be burning. This is pure political bullshit brought on by the phony “protests”.  We need a new President and some new generals.

16 More stupid kabuki from Helicopter Ben.  Says they will have some more “easing”.  What BS, they have never stopped “easing”.

The Federal Open Market Committee will likely say it would buy assets such as mortgage-backed securities and U.S. Treasurys when it meets for a two-day meeting starting Tuesday, Jan Hatzius, the investment bankÂ’s Chief U.S. Economist said in a report on Monday.

So they are going to do another end run around Congress and bail out Fanny and Freddie some more while continuing to print money.  That is what “buying T-bills” is which the fed has been the largest buyer for the past several years.  China quit buying and has dumped all of theirs because it is now a bad investment.  They pay almost nothing in interest and since the U.S. is monetizing the debt from excessive spending the real rate of return is negative.  This shit is also killing people like me who are on a “fixed” income. Also killing the average worker who is also on a fixed income due to shitty Obamaconamy.

Absolutely we're staying away from it. That's why we've had no less than five posts about it so far, not counting this one, in which I linked to an article on today's contempt vote. Plus we've had another half-dozen on other AG Holder issues (e.g. nat sec leaks). So, yes, we're definitely maybe purposefully staying away from the Fast & Furious contempt vote. Good eye.

Anyone who has worked in education would have noticed a couple of key things in that article.  First, it was mentioned that she had done well on her last two observations.  Normally, a teacher is notified in advance of the date and time of those formal observations.  It allows her to prepare a lesson that is designed to be engaging and interesting.  In no way does it actually reflect her normal classroom performance.

Second, it says she was a teacher in their alternative education school.  That really sums it up nicely.  Most districts that have alternative education programs don't put the best and the brightest teachers there.  They are dealing with kids who have discipline problems or don't want to be in school in the first place.  Those teachers are normally there to baby-sit the kids until they commit a crime and go to jail.

Clearly, she was not teacher of the year material.

Good morning, 'rons and 'ronettes.

As Vic noted, Errol Flynn day at TCM, since it's his birthday (June 20, 1909).

On this day in 1948, a former New York boxer and sportswriter turned Broadway columnist launched the debut of a variety show called Talk Of The Town.  It was quite a hit, and under a different name, ran into the 1970's - you might say it was a. . .rilly big shoe.

And now, an Errol Flynn story:  during the filming of the 1939 movie The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex, one of the stand-ins was a "lady of easy virtue," as they say.  Nearly every man on the set had a quickie with her, and even director Michael Curtiz was seen taking her to lunch.  When Curtiz came back alone, Flynn pulled him aside.  "Mike," he said, "a terrible thing happened to Ken, the electrician, while you were away.  He's taken very sick.  The doctor says it's a kind of VD that can hit a man without warning.  It's very bad."  Curtiz shrugged.  "It's his own fault.  Who was he fucking around with?"  Flynn flashed a boyish grin.  "Someone in our own family, I'm afraid.  One of the stand-ins."  He casually mentioned the girl's name, at which point Curtiz went white and ran off the set to the first aid station.  He never knew it was one of Flynn's practical jokes.

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

If we are lucky Holder will get a slap on the wrist.  If all goes as the bipartisan Dems want it to, he will get the Congressional Medal Of Freedom or Justice or something shiny.

Ther are at least two dead US citizens dead  and at least 300 Mexican citizens DEAD due to US policies and approved operations (DoJ, BATFE, DEA, FBI) conducted while this evil man (Eric Holder) was in charge of DoJ.  But he will not produce anything responsive to legitimate Congressional oversight inquiries due to an ongoing investigation conducted by his very own DoJ fiefdom.

His offer to brief Issa (out of context) on the substance of the documents was a travesty of a sham of an emanation of a penumbra of an insult.  I kept waiting for the line, "But wait..., there's more.  If you drop all charges and investigations, I will deliver thousands of documents you didn't ask for and that have nothing to do with this investigation!"

You act like the law means something to the chinless shitstain.  As much as I hate Rove, his group has produced some outstanding ads which is why the thin-skinned cocksucker is trying to demonize private citizens for exercising their right to free speech as he's done before.  I hope at some point Romney points this out although, to his credit, he's doing a very good job of jabbing the Indonesian.  Hopefully the pathetic performance of McRINO four years ago hasn't set my expectations far too low.

Today is the Summer Solstice, which will actually occur at 07:09 pm EDT.

I don't understand this. I live about 75 degrees west longitude which (at 15 degrees/hour) puts me five hours behind GMT (which is now essentially UTC or Zulu) time. The solstice is supposed to occur around noon GMT/UTC. So shouldn't the solstice start for me at more like 8 9 AM (when factoring in the added hour for EDT)?

Since Greenwich is ahead of us, how can their noon occur during our evening?

Democrats and a few Republicans united to block even modest reform in a welfare program that has exploded in the last decade and is set to spend $770 billion in the next 10 years." "That amendment lost 56-43, with every Democrat except Missouri's Claire McCaskill opposing it. New England Republicans Scott Brown, Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe and Nevada's Dean Heller joined the antireformers." Need I say more? And, this is a bit of what it offered: "Enter Alabama Republican Jeff Sessions, who proposed reforms to limit the worst excesses. One proposal would have established a federal asset test to ensure that food stamps aren't going to families that may not have an income but have tens of thousands of dollars in savings or may even live in a million-dollar home. Some 39 states have no real asset test for food stamps, which means wealthy families without anyone in the job market are eligible, and 27 have gross-income limits that are above 130% of the federal poverty guidelines."

I guess the time is calculated from the International Date Line (180 degrees Longitude), which would make:

LUCKY.

Yes, it's    going to be two days of this       heat, then back to more bearable 80s for us.   I know 90+ weather with high humidity is the norm in some areas, but for New England not so much.     Snow in DC in January causes panic and mass accidents; high temps and humidity in New England in summer causes    AC   hysteria.      I blame Indonesia.

(Not because Indonesia particularly has anything to do with today's heat or my fellow New englanders' inability to deal with it,    but just because Indonesia is an irritating country    that helped give us the SCOAMT we know and loathe today.   So they can take all the blame    for anything I deem worthy     as far as I'm concerned.)

"We watched Ed Sullivan every Sunday night for years and years."

Me, too.

Recently, I had the eerie experience of trying to explain "The Ed Sullivan Show" to my 14-year-old son. I had to explain Ed Sullivan was, and those weird mannerisms of his - including his seeming inability to move his head. How the show was the last gasp of vaudeville. How the acts might feature a guy spinning a bunch of plates on sticks (with the band playing the "Skater's Waltz"), followed by Beverly Sills singing Puccini, followed by Alan King doing one of his borcht-belt stand-up routines. Which then led to an explanation of what vaudeville was, which led to who Alan King was, which led to what the borcht belt was ... each explanation taking us a little further down the rabbit hole.

The world really has changed enormously since I was his age.

Apparently her swallow reflex is paralyzed for reasons unknown and so they've had her on a cpap to keep her airways open and they have to go in and clean out her throat because fluid that would normally either be swallowed or expelled just collects. They've also got her on a feeding tube. They're doing surgery today to try and see if they can figure outsmarts wrong with those muscles and they're also doing a tracheotomy. So any prayers you guys can send her way would be mightily appreciated.

199 Yet what worked for so long now does no longer. Obama simply cannot run on 40 months of 8 percent–plus unemployment, a June 2009 recovery that sputtered, $5 trillion in new debt, serial $1 trillion–plus annual deficits, and dismal GDP growth. Few believe any more that what he and the Democratic Congress passed in the first two years of his administration worked — and fewer still that the Republicans are to blame in the last 17 months for stopping him from pursuing even more disastrous policies. He cannot turn instead to the advantages of Obamacare, a dynamic foreign policy, national-security sobriety, a scandal-free administration, or stellar presidential appointments. The furor over security leaks makes it harder to keep conjuring up the ghost of Osama bin Laden.

Why does Obama try to take credit for things on Tuesday that he damned on Monday? Is his new campaign theme: Despite (rather than because of) Obama?

I wish they had delved a little more into the actual specifics of cases.  There are certainly good reasons fornot treating pnuemonia, however I don't really think these cases fit that bill.

Additionally, the big sticker of course is that it should be left of the patient and their family not some weekend doc they pulled in to fill a shift.  These look like they are gross violations of that basic principle of medicine.  Of course I can't figure out what's going on over in Britian with the NHS anymore.  Last I looked their aggegate outcomes are far worse than the US.  They're only "better" if you focus solely on the number of people (as a percentage of population) treated and other stupid ass figures like that (so they treat more of the populuation, worse.)

I always said Euthanasia would come slowly such that we'd hardly recognize it when it arrived.

219 After he finally receives his long-delayed lethal injection, Awkal expects to see an Angel of Death who will ask him whether he believes in Allah, Mohammed and Islam. This will determine if he gets into Islamic paradise, despite his crimes. While he agonizes over Allah forgiving him for eating non-Halal meat, he seems to have no similar worries over being forgiven for murdering his wife. Instead, he told a reporter that he would do it all over again “a million times.”

Abdul Awkal was not executed as scheduled. Instead he will continue cluttering up the criminal justice system, as he has for the last twenty years. When Awkal was first sentenced to death, he said that he assumed it would come within a few weeks, the way it would have in his native Lebanon. Instead the Ohio Justice & Policy Center has managed to keep Akwal from facing justice. And the Ohio Justice & Policy Center, like so many evils, is traceable to a single source. The Open Society Institute.

Abdul AwkalÂ’s true savior, the man who kept the Lakeview Courthouse honor-killer from facing justice for his crimes, is not Allah or Mohammed, but the man whose fortune helps fund the Ohio Justice & Policy Center. George Soros.

This is why    I fear Britain is past hope.   They really ARE this cowed.   This is the same NHS that, just last year, let a     teenage girl die of tuberculosis   when      FIVE    DIFFERENT DOCTORS couldn't diagnose the disease.   This despite the fact she'd

A) had TB before and was therefore at high risk;

B) showed all the symptoms; and

C) had just returned from an overseas holiday to Pakistan.

One of the doctors told her she was "lovesick" and should see a spiritual healer.

Yes.   An actual doctor employed by an actual hospital actually said this to an actual person who was actually dying of TB.

Dr Sharad Shripadrao Pandit was criticised by a coroner after the hearing was told Alina Sarag was seen by more than five doctors at four different hospitals but medics failed to detect the curable disease.

Her distraught parents called Dr Pandit more than 50 times about their daughter's ailing condition over a four-and-a-half month period before her death on January 6 last year.

....

Alina first contracted TB in 2009 after a girl at her school was diagnosed with the illness.

She was prescribed a course of antibiotics at Birmingham Chest Clinic but medical staff never followed up her treatment.

Alina was struck down again in July 2010 after returning from a trip to Pakistan with her family.

The inquest heard a simple phlegm test would have shown Alina was suffering from TB but this was never carried out.

Instead, doctors shrugged off her family's concerns and told them Alina was suffering from a chest infection despite being classed as a "high risk" patient.

Alina's weight plummeted and at one point she was so ill she could only tolerate baby food.

After doctors at Heartland and City hospitals did not detect TB, Alina was admitted to Sandwell Hospital where she stayed for five days.

TB was picked up but no phlegm test was carried out and a chest X-ray was thought to have found a chest infection.

She later saw a clinical psychologist at Birmingham Children's Hospital but was in too much pain to complete the assessment...

The famed British NHS at work.   Long may it rot in hell.

248 I thought the committee already voted to send the Holder contempt issue to the house a few weeks ago.

Nope.  They announced that they had scheduled a vote.  It was always scheduled for today.

249 IMHO, if the contempt vote makes it to the House floor, the Republicans will pass it. It's an election year and the entire House caucus is up.
