— Gabriel Malor Happy Thursday.
Today is a SCOTUS decision day, and the odds that either Obamacare or USvAZ are decided are, well, better than on Monday. SCOTUSblog has a great plain-English description of the remaining cases. Whatever they do, that goes down at 10AM Eastern.

Recall on Monday the lawyers at SCOTUSBLOG said it is likely that that case will not be released until next Thursday which is the end of the term. The other case the Morons are interested in dealing with AZ immigration is likely to be announced next Monday. I will look at the live blogging just to make sure though.

Unfortunately this demonstrates very well that it will not be done wisely. The two major things that can be cut to save money without reducing the effectiveness of the military are closing extra bases and streamlining the new equipment procurement process. Unfortunately Congress has its collective nose firmly imbedded in both of those which is why it is so screwed up to begin with.

G'Day, Vic.
from yahoo news, a new meaning of the word "distain":
Democrats had badly struggled to narrow the Super PAC fundraising gap, caused in part by Obama's own early cash advantage and the party's distain for unrestrained fundraising and spending allowed for such groups.

Mornin', Vic. Sadly, we need to beat those same damn topics "to death" today as well, and EVERY day until the geldings in Congress actually do something to save the sinking ship. They will not do it unless what is now occasional discontented muttering becomes a constant roar in their ears.
After watching a little of the C-Span coverage yesterday, I have to think that, in the end, Weepy Boner and the rest of the squishes will end up caving to calm the Democrats and not look so "partisan" (as if upholding the law is a partisan issue).
And finally, just because everything pisses me off this morning, I am thinking the ramping-up of racial rhetoric by the darker Democrats -- including that Bonaparte creep in the Traytable Martin case -- is leading to something dangerous down the road. As in: two-three months down the road.

Jihad Jane? I heard that dope on the radio this morning and could have sworn he said "GI Jane." And I'm thinking, "what the hell does Demi Moore have to do with radicalization - other than radicalizing my pants, that is?"
Anyway. . .good morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. Hope you've all cleaned up after yesterday's pudding fest. On this day in 1913, the Lillian Gish short The Mothering Heart premiered. Directed by D.W. Griffith, it tells the story of "The Young Wife," whose husband has left her for another woman, leaving her to give birth alone. The husband's mistress leaves him for another man, and he goes back home only to find his child dying.
It's a fairly typical Griffith short, but it bears watching for Gish's astonishing performance. After her child dies, she wanders out to their garden, a blank look on her face. Suddenly, as she walks by a rose bush, her smothered anger explodes, and she whips the bush in a frightening frenzy - an expression of grief made more powerful in that she never cries, nor screams, simply lashes out in the only way she is allowed to, by society's dictates. I recommend it.
And now for today's Hollywood story: Fox Studios liked John Wayne's screen tests. They didn't like his name - Marion Morrison. "What is he, a fairy or something? asked Winfield Sheehan, the head of production. "That's no name for a leading man!" The director Raoul Walsh suggested "Anthony Wayne," a hat tip to the Revolutionary War general "Mad" Anthony Wayne. "Too Italian," was the reply. "OK," Walsh shrugged. "We'll make it more American. Tony Wayne." Sheehan hated it. "Now he sounds like a goddamn fairy again." Finally, Walsh said, "How about just plain John?"
And so The Duke was born.
Thanks for the news, Vic. Hope all of you have a wonderful day.

My feeling is that waiting until next week gives Boner the opportunity to ease F-and-F and the contempt vote on Holder off to the side. Just for good relations across the aisle, of course.
He needs to understand that the crowd is watching and will be severely pissed off if he does his usual cop-out routine.

Juan Sanchez, VP of Research, UT/Austin
As if that "unanticipated accident" apology isn't dumb enough.
According to Sanchez, the metal building damaged in the blast is not structurally adequate for the type of military experiments being tested there. Duh. Go figure, "unanticipated accident" when the selected building used for well over a decade quoted to be a research laboratory "suddenly" in "unanticipated" circumstance is determined to be "structurally inadequate". Regarding UT/Austin concerns, so long as no accidents occurred, it WAS structurally adequate. Simply time now to relocate and "reset".
The UT Institute of Advanced Technology tested high velocity projectiles using gas in a pressurized line within a metal framed uninsulated warehouse building next to a road bearing heavy neighborhood traffic when the explosion occurred June 12, shrapnel hitting/injuring a passing driver on BAGDAD Rd. "A piece of the launcher broke off and was propelled by high-pressure hydrogen gas." (Austin-American Statesman)

Goldwyn's a fascinating character; anyone remotely interested in Hollywood should read up about him. A more than occasional pain in the ass, but a man who wanted to put out a good movie, knew what made a good movie, and loved movies. Here's a Goldwyn story:
In 1947, Goldwyn asked director Henry Koster to take over the film The Bishop's Wife. He asked Koster if he'd like to work with Laurette Taylor. "I'd love to," Koster said. "She's a great actress. The trouble is, she's dead." Goldwyn gave Koster a look. "Dead? Two hours ago, she was sitting right in that chair! I talked to her!" Koster couldn't believe his ears. "Sam, she's dead! She had a heart attack last year!" Furious, Goldwyn punched his intercom and asked his secretary, "What was that lady's name who was just sitting here two hours ago? The actress." "Loretta Young," the secretary answered.
"See!" Goldwyn gloated. "What did I tell you? She's not dead!"

It's not impossible for Michigan to go the right way. I know it's hard to remember, but Michigan is NOT Detroit. Thankfully that festering pile is withering away, population is draining off, and the gutterspawn are largely demoralized and will probably not be putting down the crack pipe to go do something like vote.
If we could just kick that city out into the lake and let it sink Michigan would be a decent state.
And really - I think most states can say something similar. It's the massive urban areas that are a blight on America. Urbanites are the ones dragging us down. Not that I blame those people for being miserable and wanting to share that misery. They live on top of each other in the human equivalent of a rabbit warren. The constant close proximity of humanity, the noise, the stink, the traffic, the horrendously bad government - it all taxes the mind. Since they can't get away from, or lash out at, their fellow citizens, they expect the State (which drains them with onerous taxes) to get those other people around them to straighten up and fly right.

Even if Romney is elected what happens with the Supreme Court depends largely on what happens in the Senate.
It will not be possible to get 60 Republican votes in the Senate. At best we will get between 3 and 5 in a majority. That means the Dems can stonewall any Republican nominee they want unless the Republicans pull the nuclear plug, which the Dems have done at least once now.

This is a tough one for me. On one hand, I don't think that congress should run around and criminalize lying (although...they are the experts). On the other hand, I think that people who pull this sort of shit need to get slapped down, because it dilutes the importance of decorations.
Maybe they should decriminalize knocking the teeth out of anyone who falsely claims military decorations?

No. The either house can vote for contempt separately. Once the full House votes for contempt it goes to a federal attorney who takes it to a Grand Jury for criminal contempt charges. It is not a civil case at that point. Conviction carries a $1,000 fine (meaningless) and 1 year in jail, which is good as impeachment. Note that this should also result in disbarment.

In Washington, you can now register your FOR PROFIT business as a social purpose corporation. This means that you place your virtuous and good social purpose above evil profits. This means that if you invest your money in one of these businesses, you may as well kiss it goodbye when you hand it over. But at least you will feel good about yourself, and that's all that's really necessary to live a good life.
Here's the form for registering your social purpose corporation: http://tinyurl.com/d3o27dw Note item 4 under Article III, Purpose and Powers:
"The mission of this social purpose corporation is not necessarily compatible with and may be contrary to maximizing profits and earnings for shareholders, or maximizing shareholder value in any sale, merger, acquisition, or other similar actions of the corporation. "
I frequently hate this state, given the craven way they copy almost every idiotic thing that ever came out of California.

WASHINGTON - Fewer Americans believe the economy is getting better and a majority disapproves of how President Barack Obama is handling it, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll.
Meanwhile, new financial filings reveal that although major donors supporting the president and Republican challenger Mitt Romney spent millions of dollars last month on their respective candidate, outside political groups helping Romney are reaping a growing share of the largesse.
With Election Day less than five months away, the new poll shows that Romney has exploited concerns about the economy and moved into a virtually even position with the president.
More handwringing from the MFM over their boyfriend. How dare Romney exploit concerns about the economy. Doesn't he know it's all Bush's fault?

I said -- in essence -- that Ed "Poppin' Fresh" Morrissey would make Bark Obama's role in Fast-n-Furious into an "Obamateurism," instead of actually firing up a stray brain cell or two and looking at his use of so-called "executive privilege" as a criminal act meant to cover up Holder's (and Obama's) criminal acts. The latter, at a minimum, make both accessories to murder, which can draw a helluva sentence.
Well, the fat little eunuch did indeed decide it's an "Obamateurism," while engaging in a little senseless Twitter babble to justify his "stance."

Deep Space Nine was, IMO, the only one of the Star Trek franchises to ever actually touch on what reality would be like in an interstellar society. There were wars. There were turncoats and spies and acts of valor and acts of cowardice. It was a much grittier, and therefore more realistic, view of the future. I love TNG and TOS (and Enterprise could have been SO good), but they were all about everyone getting along and making friends. DS9 pretty much took that framework and said, "Okay, but what happens when you try to make people get along and they say, 'Screw you?'"
Also? Bashir was hot.

TOS & TNG were Utopian Communist fiction. For all that, they were decent, and they weren't in your face about it. DS9 was much more rooted in the real world, and, in later seasons, showed the evils that collectivism could bring- via the Dominion War.
Then Mrs. Rodenbury took back over, and gave us the pathetic excuses for Star Trek that were Voyager and Enterprise.

The University of Minnesota - Duluth (UMD) is now sponsoring an ad-campaign designed to achieve "racial justice" by raising awareness of "white privilege."
The project disseminates its message, that "society was setup for us [whites]" and as such is "unfair," through an aggressive campaign of online videos, billboards, and lectures. The ads feature a number of Caucasians confessing their guilt for the supposed "privilege" that comes along with their fair features.
"You give me better jobs, better pay, better treatment, and a better chance - all because of the color of my skin," reads one poster that features a close shot of a Caucasian male.
The Un-Fair campaign also held a series of lectures and events on campus last semester. One included a presentation by Tim Wise, author of Dear White America. In his book, Wise confesses a "longstanding fantasy" where he turns to a man with a "God Bless the USA" button and asks him, "why can't you just get over it?"
These lectures were publicly endorsed by university Chancellor Lendley Black. Black sent a message to the campus community in April describing his effort to "create an inclusive campus climate for all" through providing "support and... leadership to the Un-Fair Campaign."
What a wonderful little campaign they have going on.How soon before the white kids will have to wear some little symbol on their clothing? If this university is truly dedicated to this idea then all of the white teachers including the chancellor should immediately step down and be replaced by someone non-white. In the mean time any whites should be leave the school and show the pricks how un-fair paying their tuition is

My enduring memory of Voyager is the episode where Paris and Janeway managed to make a shuttlecraft travel faster than Warp 10. For some convoluted reason this caused them to de-volve into lizards or something while they were stranded on some planet. While they were there, they got their intergalactic gecko freak on and had little lizard babies, which they then abandoned when they were rescued.
So somewhere out there in the universe, there is a planet populated by the inbred lizard children of Janeway and Paris.
Sweet dreams.

That arc gets my ire. USS Defiant vanishes from TOS timeline and slips almost a century back in time into the Imperial universe. So the Empire has a Warp 9 capable starship armed with phasers and Daystrom computers dropped into its lap. Even with civil wars to own the ship, the implications for Kirk in Mirror Mirror would be evil Kirk's Enterprise would be more advanced than Enterprise he is used to.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits was little changed last week, according to government data on Thursday that suggested the labor market was struggling to regain momentum.
Initial claims for state unemployment benefits slipped 2,000 to a seasonally adjusted 387,000, the Labor Department said. The prior week's figure was revised up to 389,000 from the previously reported 386,000.
Economists polled by Reuters had forecast claims falling to 380,000 last week. The four-week moving average for new claims, considered a better measure of labor market trends, increased 3,500 to 386,250 - the highest level since early December.
Why would economists think that claims would fall? How do they keep a job if they're always wrong?

This is why they've GOT to strike down the whole thing. I'm sorry, they do. The lack of a severability clause should make that automatic anyway. You can't just say, "Oh, whoops! We kind of forgot to put one in. Can we take a mulligan on that one? Next time we'll do it. Pinky swear!" The very purpose of a severability clause is to have the ability to remove one part of a piece of legislation without having to scrap the whole thing. If you "forgot" it (or, as the case may be, deliberately left it out because you knew the entire bill was built on a dodgy, potentially unconstitutional premise), then boohoo for you.

They're lying. The USDA spends billions for schools to provide lunches--to everyone, regardless of household income--in the summer.
Yeah, you've got your baby mamas too drugged/indifferent to get the kid to the free meal, but you get that during the school year, too.

They tried to add one, and it failed. But, of course, SCOTUS won't consider that because it's "internal procedure" or some crap.
Hmm, actually that may count as legislative history which can be considered. But let's be honest, SCOTUS can review whatever SCOTUS wants. Where are you going to appeal that decision? SMOD?

Amidst the book collection is a book that I found at a used bookstore. I frequently use to browbeat the Trek true-believers. From the second season of TOS there was a book published called The Making of Star Trek. Co-written by Gene Roddenberry. Even when using such holy relics, the true believing Trek fan is not disabused from such heresies.
And after J.J. Abrams destroyed the Star Trek universe in the reboot, I have stopped trying to discuss such. Its like trying to explain the concept of private ownership to an OWS drone.

Has anyone else seen these TV spots that claim that most (?) children in the US only get fed when school is in session, and starve during the fucking summer? What the fuck? Seriously, what the fucking fuck?
I thought that's what the food stamp program was for. If we are giving all this money to them for food then why are they starving?
I had a summer job one time in one of those federal programs, it may have been the same one that sponsored midnight basketball. Anyway, we supervised kids at a gym that was next to the projects and open all day so that kids could come and play basketball or games or other stuff. Free bag lunches were provided. You would not believe (or maybe you would) how many more kids showed up just in time for lunch and then left right afterwards. My point is that these programs already exist and have existed for a loooong time, so making that claim that kids are starving because the taxpayers aren't doing enough for them is a lie.

LOL. What silly BS, stirring up folks to worry about "THE CHILDREN." It's absurd. Just this morning I heard a variant of the same thing - "25% of Americans depend on food assistance." It's silly. Getting food assistance doesn't mean you need it. If Uncle Sugar wanted to drop some cash in my lap, or goods in kind, every month I'd not say "no." But I don't NEED it.
However, if the slum parents starve their children, so be it. Fewer to burden me with onerous school taxes. It's not like there will be any shortage. If there's on thing the American underclass excels at, it's making more babies they can't afford.

There are two clear problems here. For one, the father is probably not being made to support his spawn. For another, the "mother" should not be in custody of the children at all.
More fundamentally, the American underclass is not the same as it once was. Once upon a time they were not all doped and VD-infested and generally degraded as they have now become. Once upon a time they even knew how to keep their legs together. The old virtues of thrift, sobriety, and cleanliness that used to be so very American are dying off among the poorer folks, thanks to the thrice damned Liberals. May all Liberals die in a fire.
At this point the best possible social program is one to provide free sterilization. I still strongly prefer that it be mandatory for getting any kind of long term welfare. It would have huge near term payback, and the cultural improvement that would result would be vast. It would even cut down on the damn noise pollution from those who ride by late Saturday night with their vile ghetto "music" (really nothing more than a collection of swear-words put to a rhythm) blasting at high volume, thumping the earth with reverberating bass.

If a child in this country is going hungry it is because the parent(s) are either stupid are lazy and the child should be removed from the home.
80% of the $1T farm bill is dedicated to SNAP. Then there are the myriads of federal, State, and County programs that provide food for poor. And this is on top of actual direct payment welfare MONEY.
And then there is assistance provided by the private groups which are not all churches.

And by a caring, guiding hand, I mean a clenched fist breaking several bones, and another hand pointing the way to the local clinic.
Those punks need discipline. Fifty dollars says that they end up in counseling instead. -_- Infuriating.
Posted by: Kinley Ardal, Cloaking device enabled at June 21, 2012 09:36 AM (f6Yc3)
Won't end up in counseling. You only end up in counselingK if you are perceived as different, not the norm. They are the norm. The kid who would have stepped up to defend the woman, that kid would be referred to counseling, which is why no one stood up to defend her. They might not have contributed but they weren't going to single themselves out and then be referred for behavior not the norm.
It's kind of like a microcosm. If you are with a bunch of libs/dems you aren't going to speak up if you disagree, you're going to keep quiet and keep your head down and just not contribute, just listen. You'd be afraid to go against the pack and be singled out. That is the problem.

He ended up getting dragged into the living room by my sister so that we could all sit down and have a marathon of the first season.
By episode three, BIL was hooked.
He and my sister went home to PA shortly thereafter, bought their own copy of the series, and he proceeded to mainline the whole thing like a heroin addict jonesing for some horse.

Case in point is Takei now saying he broached the subject of having a homosexual character on TOS with Gene privately and Gene turning him down. Though ST:TNG evidence suggests Gene would have turned it down - case being David Gerrold wanted to write in a homosexual character and was turned down. This was during the first season of ST:TNG. Soon after Gerrold and D.C. Fontana penned an article accusing ST:TNG of boldly going nowhere. All because Gene decided in the 24th Century he wont have as many Kirk style fist fights, things will be more cerebral. And after Roddenberry died, Berman and Braga kept that mantra which stifled creativity and made most shows a bit bland.
So yes I know the Great Bird of the Galaxy did and could shat some really bad bloopers.

This doesn't explain why they chose to funnel legal firearms from legal dealers in the United States. This doesn't explain why they coerced legal dealers into violating federal law. I dunno, I thought that one was settled under Reagan or Bush 41. There was some act that required the rules about union dues and political contributions to be posted in all workplaces.
Almost the first thing Clinton did in office was strike it down through executive order.

Willow, I agree. You should definitely try writing a book. It's something to get out of your system and, who knows, you might be very good at it. I don't know what else to say except think of a story and write it. Be careful on feedback, too. A lot of friends won't really critique because they don't want to hurt your feelings, so you have to find the right person / s who can give it to you straight. OSP and Anna, hope to hear from you soon.

First, the SEIUÂ’s understanding of the breadth ofchargeable expenses is so expansive that it is hard to place much reliance on its statistics. "Lobbying the electorate," which the SEIU claims is chargeable, is nothing more than another term for supporting political causes and candidates. Second, even if the SEIUÂ’s statistics are accurate, it does not follow that it was proper to charge objecting nonmembers any particular percentage of the special assessment. If, as the SEIU argues, it is not possible to accuratelydetermine in advance the percentage of union funds that will be used for an upcoming yearÂ’s chargeable purposes, there is a risk that unconsenting nonmembers will have paid too much or too little. That risk should be borne by the side whose constitutional rights are notat stake. If the nonmembers pay too much, their First Amendment rights are infringed. But, if they pay too little, no constitutional right of the union is violated because it has no constitutional right to receive any payment from those employees.
KNOX ET AL. v. SERVICE EMPLOYEES INTERNATIONAL UNION, LOCAL 1000
Well, no Obamacare ruling yet, but the SEIU lost a big one.

AND I LOVE IT. As I always say, the only reasons I agreed to join SEIU are:
1) It was between paying for membership dues or for "collective bargaining" representation, and the cost difference was minimal; and
2) Because as a member, I can vote for or against union-related measures. And I also get to be on their mailing list to see all their breathless cries of progressive outrage, which are always fun for a laugh.
And yes, cajun - I'm pretty sure my money goes to political causes. That's why I try to donate to MY favored candidates and causes, too, as a way to balance things out a bit.

IANAL, but my guess is "no" provided the union can cook the books to make it look like they aren't using money for political purposes.
That's the way it's been in MO since I had to join the Meatcutter's union to sell fish part time at a Grocery store. They could autodeduct my "dues" (which I was told would not go to political spending, but I don't trust them) however I had to "opt in" to the political spending. And I had to sit there while they told me how great it was the "union had their back" during the last strike, running ads (coming from this second fund) criticizing the stores to get public pressure on their side.
I asked if I put in a negative number could I get some money back. I also told them I remembered that strike and the contract was more than fair.

Southern Union Company v. United States
Justice Sotomayor has opinion. The rule of Apprendi v. NJ applies to the
imposition of criminal fines. The First Circuit is reversed. The vote
is 6-3.
Justice Breyer dissents, joined by Kennedy and Alito.
Knox v. SEIU, 10-1121. Opinion by Alito.
The Ninth Circuit is reversed. Justice Sotomayor concurs in the
judgment, joined by Ginsburg. It appears to be 7-2; Breyer dissented,
joined by Kagan.
The Court rules that the case is not moot, first. It then rules on the
merits: the unionÂ’s treatment of nonmembers who had opted out when they
got notice of the dues ran afoul of the First Amendment.
Dorsey and Hill, the Fair Sentencing Act cases.
The opinion is by Breyer. The Seventh Circuit is vacated and remanded.
The vote is 5-4. Justice Scalia dissents, joined by the Chief and Alito
and Thomas.
The Court holds that the FSAÂ’s new mandatory minimums applies to
sentences for crack cocaine imposed after the Act for pre-Act crimes.
FCC v. Fox
Opinion is by Justice Kennedy. The decision of the Second Circuit is vacated and remanded.
The vote appears to be unanimous, although Justice Sotomayor did not participate, Ginsburg concurs in the judgment only.
Narrow decision that because the FCC failed to give Fox or ABC fair
notice prior to the broadcast that fleeting expletives and momentary
nudity would be indecent, the CommissionÂ’s standards as applied to these
broadcasts were vague.

Hell, it took them a century to stop scrawling their opinions on cave walls with charcoal, lit by torches and dressed in bear skins.
FWIW, in SCOTUS language the Cave of Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc in France says, "In the case of Luglug v. Tribal Elders, the lower court's ruling is upheld. I would like to thank personally, and on behalf of the Mexican nation, President Barack Obama for his valuable decision by executive order to give an opportunity for young people who were not born in the United States but who arrived in that great nation before they were 16 years of age, or who are studying in university, or who have served in the United States armed forces, for them not to be deported for at least a period of two years, so this is a clear and certain situation for themÂ…
Mr. President, we would like to thank you for the valor and courage that you had in implementing this action. I am sure that many, many families in the United States of America are thankful to you as well.
Thanks for the Dream Act Lite and keep those money orders coming!

She stops at my desk and sees the Scotusblog live report rolling by and asks what's up? I say, they might announce the Obamacare ruling today. She says, "What's that all about anyway." I say, "Well, the court is about to decide whether the Federal Government can force you to buy insurance or pay a fine." Her response was an emphatic, "Absolutely not! The government can't force you to buy anything!" Me: "Well, the President argues that they can. Are you sure you're not more of a libertarian?" Her: "Maybe...but Romney makes my stomach turn." I told her that I get that too, but that I'm not voting FOR Romney, but rather AGAINST Obama. I could see the wheels turning a bit as she walked away.
I think that might be the way to reach these voters. Focus on the compulsion aspect of the progressive agenda. Most of these types of folks are live and let live types. Forcing people to do things really hits a nerve with them. Pointing out how the bedrock of the prog agenda is authoritarianism and none of it works without compulsion of the individual might just swing a few of them or at least keep them home on election day.

SCOTUS moved on from stone tablets to paper. That's progress, for them.
About a decade or so ago the Old Boss was being pressured by a client to file for certiorari with SCOTUS. He was trying to talk the guy out of it because there was no chance in hell of it being granted. I was given the job of getting this ready since the client was adamant. IIRC, at that time SCOTUS was still requiring that all submissions be typeset professionally on 6 x 9 paper of a certain weight. You also had to send in multiple copies of everything. The printing costs alone were going to be in the low five figures just for the writ. We told the client hey sure we'll do it but you have to pony that up in advance. Annnnd that put the end to the only time I've ever worked on a petition to SCOTUS.

Tami, I always register my cars in my family LLC. It usually is less of a hassle (no need for anything really) AND they have no idea who is driving the car. I have never had a problem until I bought a $800 boat trailer in a little town. They wanted to see the articles of incorporation, didn't believe the LLC existed even though I had six cars listed with the same name. We send the papers and the assholes had to resend them and fill out three more forms to get them back.

Tami, I'm so pissed on behalf of your son that I had to go check out the CT DMV's website for myself. Here's what they say:
-------------
There has been some recent confusion on the DMV web site regarding the proper identification needed for registering a vehicle in Connecticut. Identification is required when registering a vehicle in the state. Acceptable forms of identification for registration purposes are as follows:
Connecticut Residents. A Connecticut resident must present his or her valid Connecticut license or ID card with photo as his or her form of identification. Any Connecticut resident without a Connecticut license or ID card, must obtain one to be eligible to register a vehicle. Within 30 days of moving to Connecticut, new residents must obtain a Connecticut license or ID card for transacting registration business at the DMV. The Connecticut license is required to legally operate a vehicle in the state.
Out-of-State Residents/Military. If someone is an out-of-state resident with a valid out-of state (or Canadian) license or ID card with photo, or possesses a U.S. Military ID (either active or dependant), those documents can be used when the vehicle will be kept in Connecticut. This documentation is needed to verify that a person is not a Connecticut resident and has residency elsewhere.
All Others - Special Review. If someone does not have any of the required forms of identification, he or she can request an administrative review to determine eligibility to register a vehicle. You must complete and submit A Request for Administrative Review (form B-360). Review process may take up to 30 days. The review process:
* Determines whether you are a Connecticut resident and subject to state law regarding residency for registration requirements.
*Determines a need to register the vehicle in Connecticut.
*Determines who will operate the vehicle and is properly licensed.
(Please Note: The use of passport is primarily associated with obtaining a license. It is not used as a form of identification for registering a vehicle. )
-----------
ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE does it say a social security card is even recommended, let alone required.

I just checked their website. For the DL they require two forms of ID, at least one of which must be from their primary list. SS card is listed as a secondary ID and is therefore acceptable BUT NOT REQUIRED. For the vehicle registration he only needs a valid CT driver's license. Why is it that a moron can figure this out in two minutes but a DMV employee can't?
My advice to him is to go to a different office. I've been in a similar situation with idiot DMV employees before and just went to a different office and it was as though the situation never occurred.

Isn't there a way to tell how the remaining cases will go?
I mean, if the most senior justice goes last, well: Has Roberts, Scalia or Thomas announced a decision yet?
Or, look at it this way: If Obamacare was upheld, those 3 (and Alito) would have voted against it. So then, to give them a chance to write an opinion this term, they'd be given another opinion to take the lead on.
Breyer, Sotomayor, Kennedy and Alito have written opinions.
The battle ax hag, Ginsburg has not. (I think. That's a worry, isn't she more senior than Breyer? Meaning, one more liberal victory in the hopper. F me that is scary.)
If it is overturned, either Roberts, Scalia or Thomas writes the opinion.
If so, please, please, please let it be Thomas. And let him use it as a reason to overturn the Slaugherhouse Cases.

They told me to get a copy of my birth certificate. I had no idea how to do so, but fortunately, my parents had kept their original copy on hand, and so I got my license the next week.
I chuckle to myself sometimes, remembering how the DMV told a white kid that they suspected he had stolen a Mexican's I.D. Glory days, those.

I know right? It's been 13 years since Thomas said he was looking for a case they could use to overturn that shit. And is was specifically requested to be overturned in McDonald in 2009.
There is damned near no liberal policy or law over the last 140 years that would stand--if Slaughterhouse is gone, that's not the SCOTUS nuking liberalism from orbit, that's a nuclear carpet-bombing until the rubble stops bouncing.

We could be entering a period similar to the second Reagan recession. Some parts of the country may move into recovery while others continue to sink. That seems to be the developing case with real estate, some submarkets are recovering while others are still tanking.

We adopted out two daughters after a DHS involuntary termination of parental rights procedure. Bio-mom, cementing her status as a member in good standing of the dirtbag American community, then used my infant daughter's SS number to get credit for such things as cable TV. We went down and changed my daughter's SS number. Then she turned sixteen and we went down to get a learner's permit and the shit hit the fan. Huge mess because DMV couldn't handle it that she had a new SS number. We spent the day going back and forth between the DMV and SSA.
God times. Good times.

That's about the size of it. The Republicans sometimes remind me of Lucy from Charlie Brown, "I don't care if I'm well-liked or not, so long as I'm popular!"
Torn between laughter and frustration.

If Meggy Mac were just a nobody (well, she actually is...but I digress) and not a senator's daughter, she'd no doubt be headlining her own reality TV show with all the necessary components therein: going out to partay! without underwear, boobehs hanging out, drunk, vulgar, outrageous behavior, banging a different guy every night, calling everyone a bitch. I want to strangle John McCain for bringing this spoiled fat ass into the world.

and your discharge papers don't suffice?
Not according to the CT DMV they don't. Apparently they will only accept the original SS card or a W-2 from your employer.

I'm not sure it's that. I think they don't realize exactly how bad it will be for insurance companies to keep those provisions. Even something that seems fairly benign- like extending coverage to "dependents" up to age 26 has a lot of far-reaching implications that industry insiders could tell them.
Either they're not listening, or the industry insiders have been bought off in some way (likely the coverage mandate, but then what will they do when the mandate is struck down?)

My card has a signature on it that is from when I was young, so it really doesn't look like my signature. Really foolish.
Mine too, and to top it off it was laminated back when I was a kid. I should probably go and get a new one because there's going to come a point when I am going to run into similar situation as the one being discussed and I'm going to want to punch someone when they reject the card I've had for 30-some odd years.

What (besides a spike in tissue sales) did Jerri Ryan "wrought?"
B5 was just a better show, and it didn't break my first rule of spec fiction, "Thou shalt not handwave human nature."
This. B5 not only didn't "handwave human nature," it fully embraced it. People acted real.

It's like ace always says, when you ask someone, "Would you like everyone to have health insurance?" the answer is usually, "Yes." But if you ask the question as, "Would you like to buy other people health insurance?" you're going to get a long, loud, echoing, "NOOOOOO!" that puts [i[Revenge of the Sith[/i] to shame.
People are nice. We want other people to be taken care of. We just don't want our taxes to pay for Lilly the Welfare Queen's sixth round of treatment for genital warts.
