— Gabriel Malor Happy Tuesday.
The Michigan Supreme Court has approved the language of a Detroit referendum question to legalize possession and use of up to 1 ounce of marijuana, on private property, by those 21 and older.
Colorado will also have a ballot question on marijuana legalization this fall and supporters are talking up how Obama is losing them. I'd take it with a grain of salt. Among other things, the idiot reporter apparently never read Obama's book because she thinks that he's merely confessed to using weed and cocaine in college, rather than high school too.
The runoff primary between Dewhurst and Cruz got real nasty, real fast. Their latest antics involve goading each other to speak Spanish, which gives the Texas Democratic Party it's own chance to get nasty.
Researchers say the Flame virus spreaded by faking a Microsoft Windows update. The attackers actually generated "signed" (that is, authenticated), but actually faked Microsoft code-certificates.
Breitbart digs up a 1990 review of Elizabeth Warren's 1989 book, which accused Warren and her co-authors of "repeated instances of scientific misconduct."

That polarization has important practical consequences -- forecasting continued gridlock in national politics.
Why do they and the MFM say this is a bad thing? Gridlock is only bad if the action in national politics is to undo the drift to the left that has gone on for the past 100 years.

The bill would put the United States on track to spend $969 billion over 10 years on farm and nutrition programs, but supporters noted that this is a $23.6 billion cut compared to simply extending current programs.
Long ago they snuck the food stamp program into the “popular” farm bills. I say it is time to get rid of both totally but that will not happen until the country collapses totally. And when the “supporters” say that it is a cut, they mean that it is not going up as fast as they would like.

Asked what he would pray for on the eve of election day, Scott Walker said :
“Same I start out with every night: military families and military personnel out there. More than anything, they are the ones who make it possible to do what we’re doing.”
Asked if God had a plan for him, a higher purpose, Walker replied: “In that case, what I always say, not so much just my election, but about my life. Whether I’m governor or not, or someday not in office doing something different, for me I always figure God has a plan in my life and I try to follow.”
Will he pray for victory?
“No,” he said. “Abraham Lincoln had it right years ago. God doesn’t pick sides in elections. He calls us to be on his side.”

Hollywood commie dumbasses will disappoint you every time.
Last night my mother mentioned that Martin Short was going to be on Leno, and I said, "Oh, I've always liked him-- I think he's funny and I don't recall him shoving politics in your face." So I watched. For about a minute and a half.
Took him about 60 seconds to get to a RRRRRAAAAACIIIIIST immigration joke and another 15 seconds for one knocking Palin. Good to know his 2004 material is up to snuff.

I got the impression from the posts about this that ace had decided to get his new site up and running for the election thereby releasing pixy from dealing with this one to concentrate on the new site. Which I think most commenters would want, pixy working on the new site.

A communist includes all of the above, plus believes that the State should take over key industries to accomplish the above (such as health care) and at the same time believes that there is no such thing as private property when the needs of the State arise.
That includes abut 3/4 of the Democrats and a large portion of Republicans.

2008 Ballot 53% voted for the Bullet Train to link LA to Frisco. Projected to remain unfinished until 2028 when postponements inevitably begin and inflation proves insurmountable. CA voters already bought themselves $10 billion DEBT from bonds and Obama "injected" $3.5 billion as stimulus, leaving the project ONLY $54.9 billion short. At a projected cost of $123 for a one-way ticket, not a single person said they would use the bullet train more than once a week, and only 33 per cent said they would prefer the bullet train over a one hour plane journey or seven hour drive.

Include the cost of the project and price to purchase a 1-way ticket on the ballot.

The best example that I always use is The History Channel never referencing WW 2 Russia as Communist when showing its role in the war.
Also, if you ever watch network alphabet dinosaur news, they haven't used it since the fall of the Berlin Wall, which conveniently and fallaciously killed the onerous communist bogeyman once and not for all.

Try the tall sprinkler between you and the smokers. It might help wash down the air. I'm surprised the neighbors aren't at least attempting to mask their stink on their own. But then, regardless of chosen vice, most people's heads are up their asses these days. No consideration for neighbors.
Our county used to be pretty fascist with law enforcement, illicit drugs were absolutely verboten with extremely aggressive prosecution and jury convictions. Twenty years ago, our town enjoyed a bit of independent identity separated from the capital by a lovely green belt. But the doubling in size this past decade has changed prioritization, blending in with the megametro PC scene that now permeates life surrounded by immigrants (whether from out of state or illegals).

I have a problem with the practicality of it. Unlike Alcohol there's no easily identifiable real time test for Marijuana, so someone could show up to work or drive completely baked and we'd have no way of detecting it (accurately). My (admittedly rough) understanding of Pharmacology tells me that the blood test for THC is a good indicator but not always accurate as far as mental status goes. (While you could make the same argument for Blood EtOH level, that actually scales fairly well all things considered.)
From the driving aspect, I suppose we could roll it into reckless driving or the more nebulous "Driving under the influence" based on a roadside test. But for the purposes of job performance, it's already hard enough to fire someone, and I certainly don't want to work with people who are baked all the time, (I did that for a while, it was called my a highschool job in fast food.) This would make it much harder to fire them. As opposed to now, where you can simply put a ban on all illegal drugs period, and have a zero tolerence policy and you don't have to verify that they were high as a kite at the time of the test, just at somepoint.

I don't disagree but the problem is related to the problem of testing. I've been in jobs where they have a breathalyzer on Site. You blow a .0X, it's been nice knowing you pack up your desk.
This is also similar for pilots, etc. Score higher than X, lose job. AFAIK, there's no equivalent for THC, there are bloodtests to be sure, but my (limited) understanding is they don't scale well as far as "how high are you" goes. Plus the defense will always been "Well I was high last night and that's not illegal, I'm not high now."

As for telling if someone is smoking on the job that should be pretty easy from visible signs. Pinhole eyes, slurred talk, and odor.
I actually had to go to a class on aberrant behavior and that was one of the things we were educated on.
I don't disagree entirely, except odor doesn't help in the person gets high before they come in (or ate a big batch of pot brownies.) Everything else could be explained away.
Years ago, I worked a McD's and we suspected someone of skimming small amounts from the drawer each day (Usually between $20-$40 IIRC.) When we axed said person, McD's still had to pay unemployment because they didn't meet the remarkably rigorous criteria for "proper firing." I think we ended up just hiring her back because it was a better use of money to let her skim some cash, than pay unemployment.

But even at that there are two categories of workers that require drug tests by federal law (maybe other I don't know about). In those categories federal law requires firing if ay shows up at all in the testing program. It also requires banning from any job in that industry for a minimum of 5 years. However, from practice it means a permanent ban.

It comes to costs. And prohibition costs taxpayers far too much ($900 billion annually). Consider well how many bureaucrats/enforcers are intent on maintaining their status quo. It would come to Big Pharma buying the whole enchilada.
In repealing prohibition, reiterate individual responsibility and the rights of individuals and private enterprise to hold independent standards in the workplace, in public and at home. Employers can enforce their own protocol. If the Republican Leadership has its way, frivolous litigation won't have standing to reach a court. (Careful you're not tossed in with the rubbish, as well.)
You get fired because your work performance does not meet requirements and/or expectations.
You get a traffic ticket because you failed to abide by rules of the road, driving recklessly.
Most cities outlaw open containers in public on sidewalks, in automobiles. The same could apply to whatever unseemly drug that clouds better judgment.
But if Americans vote to revoke the FDR initiated "controlled substance" laws, we should seriously consider the drug farm that Big Pharma offered to drug heads back in that day. The drug users could come or leave voluntarily. While at the farm, they worked on the farm. And taxpayers did not have to pay. It was a private global Big Pharma business, much like the paid volunteer drug tests advertised in America today, only long term, with long term records to show for science. Eugenics? No, the agenda was not to kill addict test subjects.
However, the battle over whether a drug addict has "free will" to volunteer his/her self (body) could be argued. But the drug farm provided housing and outdoor work growing produce and tending livestock for the patients, and scientific drug research on humans. That was then; this is now. And the question remains with the lost souls, what to do? Farm life was both Washington's and Jefferson's ideal. Far better than institutionalized locked inside a concrete cell with the other human monsters grown in that system.
The "compassion" to condemn the farm hospital drug addict hospice that did not attempt to cure addicts only made matters worse these many decades since, dumping addicts back into over populated urban allies and prisons, pawns of violent crime.
Addiction is in the mind, enhanced by chemicals, but a mindset that we all must recognize in order to transcend by choosing behavioral and mental sobriety. No one can force another to choose independent sobriety; it remains the individual's "will". So perhaps the old farm has a place for addicts to at least subsist in good health, physically and mentally.
Regardless of habits or addictions, those who choose what leads to violence must via Justice go to prison or "die by the sword" as the Prince of Peace told his disciple before allowing himself to be sacrificed.

That is not a problem for smoking hooch. It is a problem for shitty labor laws in that State. In right to work States you can fire anyone for any reason at any time, as long as it does not violate federal EEOC rules.
The problem is also that in some States you are going to pay unemployment regardless of the reason for firing. Hell, some States require you to pay unemployment if they quit.

I dunno, I defer to you on the aberent behavior thing. I just know that in Medicine for example they have problems determining when someone is abusing painkillers at work to a point where they feel comfortable dismissing the person without the fear of a valid lawsuit being leveled against them.
As such, you usually get to a point where it's painfully obvious that the person is using (See the courtcase: Kadlec v. Lakeview). Obvious in the sense that the person can't stand up straight, or actually passes out on the job. By then it's far too late, and people have usually been injured as a result of the missed signals. I'd just hate to expand that problem to other places. IMHO, it's not the obvious cases of being high you need to worry about, it's the marginal ones. If someone walks in barely able to stand up, you're going to find a reason to send them home. It's when someone's just high enough that it's barely noticiable but they start producing errors.

A urine test for pot and most common barbiturates is about $35 (or it was before I retired).

A urine test probably won't show whether someone is high at that moment, but will show that they have used marijuana within the last few weeks. Urine tests are useless past about one month.
This is a link to a CDC advisory, which has some good info.

And what about the people you know who don't smoke dope? I'll bet most of them are Republicans too!

My wife doesn't believe me when I say we're a "center-right" country. This isn't one of those opinions, It's a fact.

On Monday, Microsoft released an critical out of sequence update to deal with the Flame virus security certificate spoofing issue.
If your computer is set to automatic updates, you should have the patch, although you might need to restart your computer to complete the update process. If you're set to manual updates, stop by Windows Update or download from support.microsoft.com/kb/2718704.

Bank Robbery: "a unique situation that required an unusual response"
Based on a "reliable" anonymous call that provided no description at all, Police in Aurora, Colo., searching for suspected bank robbers stopped every car at an intersection, removed all passengers from vehicles and handcuffed all the adults and searched the cars, one of which they believed was carrying the suspect."
After two hours detaining everyone at the intersection, the final car yielded a man with two firearms whom the police apprehended and charged with the bank robbery though no money or evidence from the scene was found.
--
The unique situation requiring an unusual response, WHERE'S THE MONEY? And what bank robber would sit in his car for two hours at an intersection awaiting search and seizure?
What are Colorado State's gun laws, anyway?

Seems that for the past year there have been quite a few race based killings. The MSM and police have been reporting them as "gang related" in order to keep the rest us in the dark, but it looks like it is going to explode here shortly.
