— Gabriel Malor Happy Thursday.
According to a new Gallup poll, more Americans blame Bush for the current state of the economy than blame Obama. Still.
In addition to being Flag Day, today is the 237th Birthday of the U.S. Army.

Cry me a friggin' river:
How PA group shamed teachers in union fight
When Neshaminy School District teachers walked off the job in a labor protest last week for the second time this school year, a list of six hundred strikers' pay and benefits was quickly posted as an ad in the local newspaper by an anti-union group sympathetic to the elected school board's firm stand against boosting school pay and benefits.
...
The ad, prepared from data collected by local activists in a Right-to-Know request last winter, showed the average Neshaminy striker receiving more than $100,000 a year in annual pay and benefits (with benefits accounting for one-fifth to more than one-third of each striker's total).
...
Citizens Alliance, based in Lemonye, suburban Harrisburg, celebrated as teachers cancelled their strike. The ad "turned the battle" against the teachers, Philadelphia landlord Bob Guzzardi, who blasts pro-conservative messages to a long list of fellow activists, insisted.

Barack Obama: Dictator of the Left
It bothers me a little when conservatives call Barack Obama a “socialist.” He certainly is an enemy of the free market, and wants politicians and bureaucrats to make the fundamental decisions about the economy. But that does not mean that he wants government ownership of the means of production, which has long been a standard definition of socialism.
I have to go with two authorities on this one Mr. Sowell, plus ObamaÂ’s own actions. First off Fascism is an offshoot and subcategory of socialism. I refer you to another columnistÂ’s book by Jonah Goldberg, Liberal Fascism which you discuss, but I feel like you have misinterpreted.
http://is.gd/XOkak0
Second off, Socialism is not the economy of government owning the means of production. That is a label developed by the liberals so they could avoid the bad label of what it really is, Communism. The man who invented Communism, Karl Marx, said that Socialism is merely an intermittent step on the way to Communism. And yes, we became a Socialist country in the 30s under FDR because in reality, Socialism is a form of big brother government in which the people’s money is used to support other people who are deemed to be “in need of help”, usually for dubious reasons. It is a transfer of wealth from the producers to the looters as described by Bastiat.
And thirdly, Obama and Pelosi have in fact started even more nationalization of industry. They are adding that to the already set in place practice that the Democrats started long ago in infringing on private property rights which is another hallmark of Communism. The Obamanites in the three short years that they have been in office have nationalized 2/3 of the U.S. auto industry and one of the largest industries in the U.S, the healthcare industry. They had plans to nationalize the electric utility industry through the crap and tax scheme but were balked by congress when they realized that the voters may rise up and kick everyone of their commie asses to the curb.
So yes, Obama is a Communist. And obviously you wrote this before the unearthing of documentation that he joined a Communist group in Chicago several years back.

deep breath, trying to drive away despair
No good classic movie stuff happened today, but here's a story about Irving Berlin, composer of God Bless America, White Christmas and many others -
1943 saw the release of This Is The Army, a Warner Brothers musical made to boost morale. Among the many cast members were Kate Smith, Alan Hale Sr. and a Lieutenant R.W. Reagan, who would leave films for a modest political career. Near the close of the movie, Berlin himself, dressed as a 1917-era private, steps on stage to sing Oh, How I Hate to Get Up in the Morning, which he had written years before for a musical review called Yip! Yip! Yaphank.
Berlin's voice was naturally soft and reedy. As he was lip-synching to his own playback, one extra turned to another and said "If the guy who wrote that could hear this guy sing it, he'd turn over in his grave."
And that's it for me. Looks like a bad day at work to go with the bad political news and my own depression. Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.
Hope the rest of you 'rons and 'ronettes have a wonderful day.

All he ever did was the tax "cut" that increased revenue, and that Obama extended, and spend too much (like Obama has outdone him on). Depends on whether the military actually owns them. I suspect these drones are owned by some law enforcement agency, making them essentially no more military than a wire tap.
Besides - look at how some of the bigger city SWAT teams operate. I'd be a lot more worried about those guys and their blood lust than about a drone buzzing around up above. And indeed, I'd trust the regular military a lot farther than any civilian police force.

Chicken Littles: AP Report Casts Texas v. EPA Fight as Risking Health of Texans"
By Tom Blumer | January 03, 2011
In his report on the escalating dispute between the State of Texas and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, one thing you cannot accuse Ramit Plushnick-Masti of the Associated Press of being is a master of understatement. He claims that "Both sides and conservation groups agree the battle has put the health of Texas residents and the environment at risk."
Really? The only problem is that the AP reporter never found anyone who is currently on the Texas side of the dispute who is saying anything remotely resembling that.

As I said, I am somewhat ambivalent about it. There already are a lot of people "spying" on you in your own property. Recall the link I put up the other day about Google going to high resolution cameras ad aircraft to get even more detailed overhead pictures.
The courts have long ruled that if you are outside and visible there is no reasonable right to privacy. Anjd I still have a lot ore concers about the things they are doing in the name of the "War on Drugs" than drone spying.
Now if they start arming the drones with hell fire missiles, I may have a concern there.

Unbelievable. I'm trying to think of the casuistry that would be employed to justify unemployment benefits. Maybe if somebody was forced to be in the union against his or her wishes and voted to accept the contract; but even that would be a reach and impossible to prove. Drones are DHS.
Sheriff Offices and Police Departments can purchase Drones.
And these surveillance of civilian private property drones have been armed, I read this past month or so of the upheaval in one of Texas' counties. Sorry, don't remember which. I was just glad it wasn't mine. But then, my county unfortunately re-elected a sheriff who would do it secretly.

Hell no, he and his team seem to be incredibly stupid this election. Perhaps that is because he has never won a real honest election and mainly because he has been so insulated from real life his entire life he doesn't now what he is doing.
He is pissing off thousands of people commuting through lower Manhattan thus giving them a "bad vibe" on him. This makes them more likely to sit it out on election day, especially in high population districts in the NE where lines are very long.
So this is good for us in the tuely weed land and bad for NYC folks.

Where in the Constitution does it give the Federal government authority to fly drones over our neighborhoods, looking for potential lawbreaking?
Yes, a bit of hyperbole, but surveilling just because they have the technology will turn into regular flights over back yards. And then they will start to find crap that is none of their business.
I have zero trust in government and its ability to obey the law.

Luckily for us, the Constitution never once says anything about a "reasonable expectation of privacy." That was a utilitarian argument against things like random locker searches and other such things.
What the Constitution talks about is being "secure in [your] Person and [your] Papers." That means the Government doesn't get to spy on you without a warrant. Even if their new method of spying is some UAV that can record everything everyone in its sight is doing "in public."

I did subcontract work through LM a few years ago with DFAS. It was nice having them as a buffer against the government cockwipes because at least I got paid in a timely fashion. It must have been a continual headache for them because Kucinich was always bitching about them taking jobs that would otherwise go to lazy fucks that he could control. I think once the JEF was elected (the project I was working on was done by then) he finally got them removed which must've been a relief for them, although I doubt some people regarded it as such.

But, strictly speaking, if some Hollywood celeb could find the photographer who took one of those back-yard photographs, they could sue them for a variety of things.

What no cries of racism?
SOUTH CAROLINA, SC (WMBF) The South Carolina Democratic Party is insisting Wednesday that the votes cast for former 7th Congressional District candidate Ted Vick should be counted, and a run-off should be held between Gloria Bromell Tinubu and Preston Brittain.
On Tuesday evening, initial results pinned front runners Gloria Bromell Tinubu and Preston Brittain in a run-off election to be held on June 26, but after the South Carolina Election Commission discounted votes cast for former candidate Ted Vick, Tinubu was declared the winner with 52 percent of the vote.
Amanda Loveday, spokeswoman for the South Carolina Democratic Party, tells WMBF News that their attorneys are reaching out to the South Carolina Election Commission to find out why the votes for Ted Vick will not be counted, and what the next appropriate step should be.

This simply is not the right time for a union to bite the employer's tit that feeds it. During a serious recessive/depression, don't demand any more than more of the same. Then again, if members are losing benefits promised and earned, "Houston, there's a problem." Altering from this point on is one thing. Denying funds already earned by contract is another. Do tell.

They're evil. Well, okay "evil" may be a strong term, but they're bad actors. On the radio show where I heard about the issue, one of the guys who had gone on strike but finally crossed the picket line because he ran out of savings (at least he didn't go asking for charity) admitted:
a) The workers knew the offer was more than fair.
b) They wanted more anyway.
The union voted 92% in favor of the strike. That's insane, especially in this climate.
Another lady called up defending her dad (who had been in a union) and said, "Please don't paint them all as evil." To her I say: They knew the offer was more than fair, and they voted to attempt to stop production (they're building the F-35 there) anyway. Maybe 'evil' is a strong word, but none of them get to avoid responsibility for that choice. Even the 8% who voted against it don't get to, unless they crossed the picket line themselves.

First, as a former LMCO employee, let me just say that management has their heads up their asses. Waste, abuse, nepotism, ethics violations are rampant. Regular non-union employees are scared for their jobs up and down the chain in that company mainly due to the incompetence of those above them who have set up their little protectorates for shitty employees, relatives, and friends. If they don't have their own fiefdom, they know about others, and they turn a blind eye to them, every single time.
Add to that the fact that Obama and Panetta are taking a fire axe to just about every billable program, and looking for any damn excuse to screw LM and every other military contractor out of money that they can then funnel to their consituency.
Enter the union - in this environment, these cock-wipes want more? And then have the nerve to tap charities and Unemployment during their hissy fit?
I'm damn surprised there hasn't been massive backlash.

Progressivism is all about self-gratification. "I don't want to deal with smelly poor people, but it's okay because all they have to do is raise taxes on the rich and the government can do it for me. i'll just vote for the people who will do that, and then my debt to society is paid." It's about feeling good without having to do any work.
I say "progressivism" because I hate using the term "liberalism" for these bastards. Liberalism USED TO BE something much, much different than it is today. The term was coopted and mutilated by the progressives when they realized that people weren't buying into their commie socialist shit and they needed to cover their asses with a term people were more comfortable with.

Inside the Lockheed Martin plant on day 46 of machinist strike. (June 7)
"We would really like to have the union workers here," said Joe Stout, a spokesman for Lockheed Martin. "In the mean time, we have to take the necessary steps to meet our business objectives." Members of the International Association of Machinists say no one is more qualified to build the planes than them. They walked off the job in April over proposed changes to healthcare deductibles and pension benefits. "Every contract has been about taking away something," said Bob Wood, a spokesman for the union. "Our membership have decided that now is the time to stop giving back when this company makes more and more money." A Lockheed Martin representative said the company made a fair offer and that the end of the strike lies with people on the picket line.

It all boils down to what some black robe determines is a "reasonable expectation of privacy". If you build a 6 foot high wooden fence around your pool to afford privacy for the pool (as I did) and some guy next door builds a ten foot high scaffold for the purpose of seeing over the fence, I suppose a judge could rule that you had a reasonable right to privacy.
However, by the same token, if that guy had a two story house in which he could see into your pool from the windows then the opposite would be true.
But this whole thing got started based on drones and aircraft looking down on your property. The courts ruled long ago that there was no reasonable right to privacy from aircraft looking down onto your property. There is an actual SCOTUS case for that.

That's one reason that I have trouble with conservative atheists. I know that it's a struggle to believe in God. I have trouble with it myself, however, I know for sure that man isn't in charge, so to speak. The vastness is too vast.

Well, this is anther of those things that, in a sane world, we wouldn't even talk about. There was a time when if some perv were doing that, you'd go next door and give him a bloody nose. And NOBODY would question your right to do it, legal or not. Thus, it was a non-issue.
Now we live in looney-land - where the assholery of every socially maladjusted douchebag is held sacrosanct, and the expectation of the douchbags' neighbors to live a normal life in peace is considered an unreasonable burden on society. Now if you give the camera perv a black eye, you are suddenly the bad guy.
Anyway, regarding the spies in the skies, I'm not really that worried about it. I'm willing to tolerate that, given the need to keep an eye on the damn muz, some of whom really are stupid enough to get caught doing bad things out in the yard. Maybe this administration of criminals is not going to use the drones for such a noble purpose, but I don't want to make it impossible for the next administration to use this tool.

...go figure. Rationalization: not all the machinists at LM are union, so the union "shares" responsibility to financially support members during strike with members' churches and fraternal charities.
"Blessings" are not received but given, according to the Jewish tradition; the responsibility resting within the community to bless itself.

The reason people still blame Bush is the relentless messaging from Obama, his administration, the DNC, the media, and Hollywood...BIRM. They hammer it non-stop.
Yet according to their own standards and announcements, this recession was over in 2009 and America Was Back Baby! Recovery Summer! If I Don't Get This Done In Three Years...
This is probably the only messaging of theirs that has been remotely effective. We need to throw it back in their faces as much as they've thrown it in ours.
Posted by: Burn the Witch at June 14, 2012 05:19 AM (YhjZc)
That doesn't even make sense. Because some people aren't in the union (btw- those people aren't striking, they're still at work) the union members are morally justified (even just in their own eyes) in expecting others to take care of them? What?

Well said. But my theory is that economy won't take off at all UNTIL there is cheaper energy. That is why, in my view, Mitt's number 1 priority should be to fix the energy problem. Drill, frak, build refineries and nuke plants - everything. Put people back to work doing something actually useful and productive, and cut the energy costs which then puts even MORE people back to work.
And, by the way, doing that is WAY more important than figuring out how to cut the deficit. Get people back to work, and the deficit will cut itself.

Not too worried about that Gallup poll: If it's the one I saw a day or two ago, the breakdown was something like Blame Bush = 76%, Blame Obama = 66%. While there's holdover resentment against Pres. G.W.Bush, it looks like about two-thirds of the electorate is tired of the SCOAMF's excuses, also.
An interesting little tidbit I saw this morning on Fox and Friends was a poll of "Independents" concerning Obama vs. Romney:
Obama --> Unfavorable = ~54% Favorable = ~38%
Romney --> Unfavorable = ~47% Favorable = ~36%
Those are not good numbers for the SCOAMF.

Polliwog - Drudge is excellent for news, and a great site for any conservative to have bookmarked. Generally the "OMG MY EYES!" posts are about some of the truly godawful pictures he uses of various celebs -- Hillary Clinton with her hair back in a painfully-tight bun; Helen Thomas looking like a prune that's been sucking on a lemon; Barack Obama, etc. There is also the occasional slightly risque picture -- for instance, today he's got a picture on there of Madonna parading around on stage in Rome with her ass hanging out of her pants and flashing a thong -- so it might not be the best homepage if you want generic newsiness.
Personally, I have Bing as my homepage.

The new synthetics are much, much better than hemp or cotton. They can be woven with a core for less stretch, and they are impervious to rot if stowed wet. In fact, some sailboats are rigged with synthetic stays instead of stainless steel cable or rods because the newest stuff is so strong and light (and amazingly expensive!).

The materials, created by a state board that sets standards for all law enforcement, include a DVD designed to help police understand the circumstances that would let them question someone about immigration status.
That power has been the most controversial part of the law, SB 1070, which Mrs. Brewer signed in 2010 but was largely halted by lower federal courts as an infringement on federal powers.
In an interesting development, the city of Los Angles has been notified by the feds that the feds will no longer reimburse the city for jailing prisoners on immigration charges. This now requires the city to ask the immigration status of all incoming prisoners.
It's almost like LA now has a SB1070 of it's own.

Some small buildings with landmark status, meaning they couldn't be torn down, are now neighbors to larger building that have gone up and at a certain point built over the air space of the landmark building. As you come out of the Queens midtown tunnel and look to your left when making a right on third avenue to go uptown you see just such an instance.
