Pennsylvania has the 2nd most elderly population of the states. And lots of old people die. Did the Feds ever consider this?:
Pa. questioned by feds over drop in Medicaid rolls
The federal government is asking why Pennsylvania's Medicaid rolls dropped over the past year, and is suggesting that some people might have been improperly kicked off.
...
Department spokesman Carey Miller says the agency isn't sure how many people were improperly kicked off Medicaid. But she says agency officials believe they're in compliance with federal rules and have fixed and will continue to fix any errors they find.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jonah, Jim Geraghty and Ramesh Ponnuru in Boston a few years back. Bought them all drinks and had a great time.
And here we go with another day.
Today is the birthday (1882) of director Tod Browning, noted for his still-chilling film Freaks. See it if you haven't. As well, if you're a silent film fan, the San Francisco Silent Film Festival begins today and goes through Sunday the 15th.
In honor of MOH day, here's a Hollywood story: Victor Mature and Jim Backus were playing Roman Soldiers in the 1954 film Demetrius and the Gladiators. At lunch break, Mature had to run an errand downtown and invited Backus to hop into the studio car. Off they went, stopping at a bank where the studio driver took care of Mature's business. Being actors, of course, they had developed a powerful thirst by this time, so leaving the car, they walked across the street to a small bar. The barkeep was reading a newspaper as the two actors in full Roman togs entered and ordered two highballs. Without looking up, he filled their glasses, then turned around. At the sight of two Roman soldiers in a downtown Hollywood bar, he froze, his face twisted in shock.
"What's the matter?" asked Backus. "Don't you serve servicemen?"
And that's it for me. Work hard, morons - millions of Obama voters depend on you.

Reading Terminal shop gets Olympic-sized reprimand
IN A CONTEST over a humble lunch counter in Reading Terminal Market, the U.S. Olympic Committee won't win a gold medal for sprinting.
Three decades after it burst from the starting block, the Greek eatery Olympic Gyro has received a cease-and-desist email from the USOC, the nonprofit corporation responsible for training and funding U.S. teams. The June 7 notice demanded deletion of the word "Olympic" from the food shop's title, claiming copyright of the word under a 1978 law.

Have the internet computers logged onto the facts for the audience to review immediately on hand.

e. Most voters (59%) said the Supreme Court decision wouldn't affect their vote, but 27% said it would make them less likely to vote for Obama, while 12% said it would make them more likely.
Now here's the money stat: 27% of indies say it'll make them less likely to vote for Obama, while only 9% say it will make them more likely.
f. Gender gap on the mandate. 50% of women support a health insurance mandate, while 50% of men oppose it.
g. HUGE margins think ObamaCare is a tax.
55% say it's a tax, while only 36% say it's not. That gap widens when independents are asked. 59% of indies think it's a tax, and 22% say it's not.
That's a stunning 37% gap that works to Republicans' political favor.
Interestingly, Hispanics think it's a tax by 60%/29%, which is an even higher margin than among whites. Real phenomenon or perils of polling subgroups?

Top national Democratic operative Charles Halloran has been retained by a new George Soros-backed super-PAC to target Congressman Allen West for defeat this November. Halloran is a former aide to President Bill Clinton and is one of the most respected voter targeting/turn out experts in the Democratic Party. Halloran ran the successful campaign of Democrat Tim Mahoney that won the seat of former Republican Congressman Mark Foley.

"As Commandos Raid Tampa, US State Dept Demands Power to Declare War?"
The Secretary of State seemed to inform the conference that the State Department now had the unilateral authority to declare a limited state of war via an expanding liaison with US Special Operations Forces. Here are some direct quotes:
... We created a new Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations that is working to put into practice lessons learned over the past decade and institutionalize a civilian surge capacity to deal with crises and hotspots.
Experts from this new bureau are working closely with Special Operations Forces around the world ... Our diplomats also saw that the UN staff in the region could be useful partners. So they worked through our team in Washington and New York to obtain new authorities for the UN officials on the ground and then link them up directly with our Special Operations Forces to share expertise and improve coordination.
The State Department and US Special Ops – a new, unelected and unaccountable power in the world? It is broader still ...
We have to keep our international cooperation going and growing at every level. Next week I'll be heading to Europe, and I'll end up in Istanbul for the second meeting of the new Global Counterterrorism Forum, which we helped launch last year. Turkey and the United States serve as the founding co-chairs, and we've been joined by nearly 30 other nations.
Who has given Ms. Clinton the brief to do such things? She characterizes these conflicts as low level but there are no guarantees they will stay that way. And what are the criteria for her mandates? And who is she to consult with? Constitutionally, only the US Congress has the right to commit US troops to war.
US President Barack Obama, through surrogates such as Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, is now claiming that his administration can commit US forces based on international (UN) mandates and the like. Congress is to be consulted only secondarily. But Clinton seems to be taking it a step further. She apparently wants the personal power to do the deed.

More about our outsourcer-in-chief:
Perfect: Obama adviser outsourced hundreds of jobs to India last year
About a year ago, Xerox told some 600 employees, many of them engineers, that their jobs were being transferred to an India-based IT services firm.
How has that worked out? Neither company is disclosing detail about what's been going on, but information is leaking out about some layoffs.
The move by Xerox goes to the heart of the outsourcing debate between President Barack Obama and the presumptive Republican nominee, Mitt Romney.
It involves outsourcing product engineering employees, a skill set often linked to the nation's innovation capacity, to an offshore company.
...
Xerox's CEO, Ursula Burns, is playing a prominent advisory role in the Obama administration as the vice chair of the President's Export Council as well serving on the President's Jobs Council.

Authorities had said earlier that five Britons and two Spaniards were among those missing but it was unclear if the bodies found were theirs.

@3 Robin Hood Tax
It appears there is some willfull or grossly negligent misreporting in that article. The tax is not $.03 per transaction, it's .03% of the value. If it's imposed at .03% on the buy and .03% on the sale, you're up to .06% on the total value. It's not .03% on the gain, it's .03%/.06% of the total amount, gain or loss.
It still sounds small, but it adds up and remember how small the income tax and social security rates were when those taxes were adopted.

Our Offshoring President
Off-shoring jobs is wrong, right? ThatÂ’s the whole theme of the Obama campaignÂ’s attacks against Mitt Romney.
...
Er, wait. What if we applied the same standard to the federal government?
In the print edition of the Washington Post yesterday (but not at WashingtonPost.com).
The Russian government more than doubled its U.S. contracts last year by providing helicopters for Afghanistan and rides to the International Space Station.
Companies run by the Russian government received $792 million in direct federal awards in the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, compared with $342 million the year before. They were among 30 prime vendors based outside the United States ranked in a Bloomberg Government study of the largest 200 federal vendors in fiscal 2011. Those contractors — including Rome-based Finmeccanica SpA and Russian arms trader Rosoboronexport — attracted almost $29 billion in direct awards, about 8.6 percent of the top 200 total of $338 billion, according to the study.
Â…The United States retired its shuttle fleet last year and now relies on countries including Russia to ferry astronauts and supplies to the International Space Station. The Space AgencyÂ’s awards rose 21 percent from $341 million in 2010 to $414 million the next year.
Â…Other foreign companies on the top 200 list included holding company Finmeccanica, whose units received $1.3 billion in direct awards last year for products including military aircraft components; oil vendor BP, with $1.4 billion; and Amsterdam-based military food supplier Supreme Foodservice, with $2 billion.
So President Obama, head of an administration that paid foreign companies almost $29 billion for services like food, gas, and space travel last year is attacking Romney for “offshoring…”
...
So, just to clarify on the amount of business contracts each candidate has sent to foreign and overseas companies:
President Obama: Almost $29 billion.
Mitt Romney: $0.

"Offshoring" is an anti-competition bugaboo. If the costs associated with a particular activity are lower in another country, then what is the problem? Does anyone want to spend $400 on a DVD player or $35 for a towel?
In reality, the only offshoring that is bad for the economy has been perpetrated by Obama. We are buying more oil from overseas suppliers because he has singlehandedly offshored the procurement of oil.

In a way, I wouldn't mind this, as long as it was being done in a strategic way--which it is not. If there is only so much of the stuff (oil) and it comes from volatile places, then you might as well get it from others now and hold on to yours for use when you can't get it from somewhere else.
Unfortunately, by stopping drilling and exploration, the timing is such that if and/or when there is a supply disruption, we will still have plenty of oil but will be years away from being able to GET IT. If President Romney cranks things back up in the gulf and elsewhere, the timing might work out quite nicely. If not, well this is yet another dimension on which we are hosed.

A lot of the hardware was from U.S. subsidiaries of the foreign companies (often legacy U.S. defense firms); Contracts with Exxon for fuel would most likely not be onshoring.

I bet you can think of a few dozen more examples, and increasingly weÂ’re all in business and in personal life thinking of more and more ways to game a system which we have less and less faith in.
ItÂ’s not civil disobedience that IÂ’m talking about. ItÂ’s the opposite: Civil disobedience is meant to be noticed. It is a price paid in the hope of creating social change. What IÂ’m talking about is not based on hope; in fact, it has given up much hope on social change. It thinks the government is a colossal amoeba twitching mindlessly in response to tiny pinpricks of pain from an endless army of micro-brained interest groups. The point is not to teach the amoeba nor to guide it, but simply to stay away from the lethal stupidity of its pseudopods.

Disagree. The NAACP won't have a preference cascade, but they will feel it.

If Barry's dad is Barak Obama of Kenya, he is half Kenyan Muslim Sunni, and was raised Muslim Marxist in Indonesia by his adopted stepfather and mother. "The most beautiful sound in the world is the Islamic call to prayer." He missed that in Jeremiah Wright's Black Liberation Theology church in Chicago where the "hate whitey" racist dogma trumps charity, the Lord's Prayer, Jesus' Beatitudes and the Golden Rule upon which rests all the law and the prophets.
Being Muslim is not being Arabic. Just as being Arabic is not a guarantee of being Muslim, dismissing the Arabian Peninsula indigenous Christians who never converted to Islam, and all the other minority indigenous religions of various Arabic tribes that never converted to Islam.
Nor is being African to be Muslim as some are yet Christian amongst whatever else. Interestingly, Kenya is 4/5 Christian, only 11% Muslim (Sunni). Minority status has not prevented the Muslims from increasing terrorist attacks on Christian churches, killing all who promote Peace.
NAIROBI, Kenya — "Kenyan clerics across the religious divide vowed
Tuesday to not allow sectarian violence to erupt following attacks on
churches over the weekend that killed at least 15 people. The Inter-Religious Council of Kenya said Muslims will form vigilante
groups alongside Christians to guard churches in Kenya's North Eastern
Province, where the latest attacks occurred." TOM ODULA

Good plan. But if your wife finds out be prepared to sleep on the couch.
I had back surgery in Massachusetts in October 2004, when the Red Sox were in the World Series. My wife, an rabid Yankee fan, went to the hotel bar for dinner (I was stoned off my gourd in the hospital) and had to wade through about 200 idiot Red Sox fans watching the game.

"Offshoring" is an anti-competition bugaboo.
My problem with offshoring is that the reason that it's cheaper for a company to move production and whatnot to other countries, in no small part, is the crippling regulatory state. Those regulations are not reciprocal in the venue to which the job is removed. Of course it's cheaper to build shit in China. China doesn't have environmental regulations, China will provide the company with political prisoner slave labor and China doesn't have unions or living wage requirements or the ADA or any of the multitudinous other hoops through which an American company must jump. It makes more economic sense to pay the bribe to the Chicom officials than to hire 27 diversity trainers.
Am I overstating the case? Sure, but probably not by that much. I think the reason why this issue sticks in the craw of American workers is that those workers are losing jobs to workers in other countries due to an uneven playing field. Someone mentioned above how compliance with the tax code is seen as being a sucker, not a decent person (hopefully that's a valid paraphrase of the position). The same thing with claims that offshoring is all a matter of competition. C'mon, that's bullshit. If China had to comply with American environmental regulations, then those Foxconn parts would cost a lot more. It's not competition when one participant has been Bergeron'd nearly to death.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for offshoring and outsourcing and anything else that improves the bottom line. That being said, I do think it's important to point out that this improves the bottom line because American businesses are being strangled to death in red tape.

Does anyone understand why San Francisco suddenly won't/can't buy apple products?
Apple pulled out of some type of "green" certification program and many municipalities, universities and businesses are required to buy only products that comply with those standards. Apple is now trying to claim that it meets other, higher standards and that's why it pulled out. Apple just so happens to be one of the companies that helped write those standards and it just so happens that the new Macbook apparently may have issues meeting that due to gluing a drive to the case (I think that's it). Basically Apple is trying to big dick a new set of standards.
I am nomming popcorn watching the Leftys run around trying to square the circle of must have green and must have Apple.

SAN DIEGO — The latest marketing campaign to recruit more minorities and diversify the Navy’s special warfare community will focus on Southern California and the mid-Atlantic, and it may include metropolitan areas with heavy concentrations of Arabs, Persians and Hispanics.
Those minority communities of Detroit, Miami and the area from Atlanta to North CarolinaÂ’s Research Triangle are the NavyÂ’s latest hopes to find and recruit young men with diversified backgrounds and the physical stamina and desire to undergo the famously rigorous training it takes to become a Navy SEAL.

Looking at some of these polls lately, I question the validity of many of them (due to locations familiar to me and the undercurrent of dislike of how the country is being managed).
One then looks for possible reasons.
I know whenever I've been asked my opinion (even over the phone) I have hedged my answers depending on how controversial the topic is and who the pollster says they are polling for.
Any known liberal leaning pollster (my opinion) or a controversial topic gets a brusque neutral answer (sometimes a hangup) and a bye bye.
I don't want some unknown database to exist somewhere with my info on it for some Democrat data miner to make use of in so many possible negative ways.
I think it's an expansion of people fibbing when exit polled and in other public places just as a FO to the poller and also a defensive stance in case of further abuse by leftists over who supports causes that they are against.
I believe Obama has a lot less support in this country than is suggested by these polls.

I got a call the other day that sounded as if it was an automated poll but it was very clear that someone on the other end was listening as I heard the click of someone coming on the line and could hear ambient background noise. I went through all the stuff, pushed the numbers and then in the middle of some recorded bit about what's your opinion about Obama blah blah I said as distinctly as I could "Obama is a stuttering clusterfuck of a miserable failure". I'm wondering which tax(es) are going to increase to pay for what the Paterno mob perpetrated. They won't be able to get a statewide sales tax increase passed, maybe they'll just tack on another per cent to the Philly sales tax to pay for Happy Valley shenanigans.
Or maybe they'll follow the Catholic Church model: defund vital ministries to pay victim fund settlements. Vulnerable populations in PA will lose benefits and services because Sandusky was allowed to roam free.

Question #1. WTF is a FAQ?
Hilariously that goes with Precept #1. If you don't know, don't try to guess. If you try to guess and can't, don't ask. And whatever you do, don't google it!

Eric Holder holds the 1st Amendment in contempt:
Newspaper: DOJ lawyer tried to stifle reporter[/b
NEW ORLEANS — Two Louisiana congressmen are calling on the Justice Department to respond to a complaint that one of its attorneys tried to bar a newspaper reporter from quoting or recording the lawyer's comments at a public hearing in New Iberia.
The Daily Iberian contends Justice Department attorney Rachel Hranitzky became "belligerent and threatening" after the reporter, Matthew Beaton, questioned why he couldn't quote her comments during a June 12 public hearing about the New Iberia Fire Department's hiring and promotion practices.
The newspaper reported that Hranitzky told Beaton he would be asked to leave the City Hall hearing if he didn't comply with her directive.
[b]"Then (the Justice Department) can call your editors and publisher at the paper, and trust you don't want to get on the Department of Justice's bad side," the paper quoted Hranitzky as saying.

No. It's not silly. There was a concerted effort to hide a crime perpetrated against children. What else would they hide? How well will the university function with the distractions of criminal and civil suits lobbed against them?

The Kennedys continue their bad behavior. They just can't help themselves:
Mary Kennedy's body dug up and moved away from Kennedy clan's cemetery plots - SEE THE PHOTOS
They couldn't just let Mary Richardson Kennedy rest in peace.
The estranged wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was buried near the Kennedy clanÂ’s Hyannis Port compound over the objections of her siblings, was dug up last week and moved to a remote part of St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
Instead of spending eternity buried near Camelot members Eunice and Sargent Shriver — RFK Jr.’s aunt and uncle — Mary was shunted about 700 feet away to a lonely hilltop on the other end of the cemetery.

I just drove for 3 miles behind a Prius with its blinker on. Not sure how he got it to stay on as we went around curves.
I really hope he was looking in his mirror after noticing the blinker at a red light, because I was clapping.
I'm nice that way.

I agree, but get the bullshit excuse for the move:
Gravedigger Frank Maki, who oversaw the plot switch, said MaryÂ’s husband wanted her moved to an area where the Kennedy family is now negotiating to buy 50 plots.

Every university with a Div-I football program makes the same efforts to hide sexual assaults perpetrated against adult women enrolled in their institutions, and no one gives a shit when little Susie wants to go study "Athletic Communications" for six years. But when the victims are young boys who aren't students, you suddenly fear for the safety of your adult child?
I'm not sure what part of "pedophiles don't go after adults" is so hard to understand.

On the sidebar, the 8 Most Shameful Moments in Obama's Presidency. Man, it's missing a lot.
"The private sector is doing fine:"

6) Son looked like Trayvon

4) Persecuting the Catholic Church
3) Passing Obamacare
2) Obama's lawless attempt to pass the Dream Act by Fiat
