Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. Thanks for the news roundup, Gabe. I don't have much enthusiasm for "Independence" Day this year, as you can imagine. Anyway, here we go:
For his 1932 movie The Sign of the Cross, C.B. DeMille put the luscious Claudette Colbert (who played Nero's wife Poppaea) in a huge marble pool full of real asses' milk, where she was supposed to bathe. Somehow, though, the crew neglected to put in fresh milk every day, and under the hot studio lights the pool began curdling into cheese. By the third day of shooting, Colbert arrived to find everyone complaining about the cheese smell. "Well," she sighed, dropping her robe and stepping into the slimy mix, "it's supposed to be a cheesecake shot, isn't it?" And indeed it was. Colbert was nude during the scene; a quick flash of nipple survives in the final cut, having somehow made it past the censors.
And yes, I've altered my nic. Since the AoSHQ already has a cervix, a dildo and a landing strip, a piercing seems somewhat apropos.
Hope you all have a wonderful day.

The vote is unanimous, with only New York abstaining.
That's a great scene in the movie 1776:
"New York abstains. Courteously."
"Mr. Morris. . .what in hell goes on in New York!? Why doesn't New York simply stay in New York?"
"Mr. Hancock, have you ever been present at a meeting of the New York legislature? They all talk very loud and very fast and nobody listens to anybody else, with the result that. . .nothing ever gets done."
"My sympathies, Mr. Morris."

Paul Kanjorski is my former congressman:
Another Stimulus Backed ‘Green Energy’ Company Goes Bankrupt
Another stimulus-backed green energy company has filed for bankruptcy, further fueling criticism of Energy Department programs that backed highly-risky investments on the taxpayer dime.
Like Solyndra and a number of other green energy investments made under this administration, Abound Solar had a very poor credit rating, but enjoyed a wealth of political connections.
Abound announced Thursday that it will file for bankruptcy protection after drawing $70 million for a $400 million Energy Department loan made through President ObamaÂ’s stimulus package. Abound is the fourth stimulus-backed company to declare bankruptcy, following Solyndra in August 2011, Beacon Power later that year, and battery maker Ener1 in January.
...
The political connections donÂ’t stop there. AboundÂ’s former Vice President of Marketing, Russ Kanjorski, is the nephew of former Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-PA), and held his post at Abound when the company received its DOE backing.

Former IRS Official Demands Investigation of ALEC
The former head of the Internal Revenue ServiceÂ’s Exempt Organizations division has asked the agency to revoke the tax-exempt status of the conservative nonprofit ALEC.
Marcus Owens, a lawyer at Caplin & Drysdale, who for a decade directed the division responsible for approving organizationsÂ’ charity status, accused the American Legislative Exchange Council of illegally lobbying state lawmakers among other violations of tax law in a letter to the IRS earlier this month, Roll Call has learned.
...
The group, which has come under fire for its support of controversial “Stand your Ground” and voter identification laws, is organized under tax code 501(c)(3) and is barred from political activity including lobbying.

Update:
Fort Bragg soldier who shot commander dies
A soldier who shot and killed his superior officer at Fort Bragg and then turned the gun on himself is also dead, military officials said Sunday.
The Army said in a news release that 27-year-old Spc. Ricky G. Elder of Hutchinson, Kan., died Friday after undergoing treatment at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, N.C.
The statement from Fort Bragg said Elder, an infantryman, had been charged recently with larceny of a toolkit valued at $1,700 and had been awaiting court martial at the time of the shootings. His trial had not been scheduled.
Meanwhile, Elder also was also facing legal troubles in his home town at the time of his death. The Hutchinson News reported that Elder had been scheduled to appear before a Reno County district judge on Friday to be sentenced for aggravated battery. The charge stemmed from a 2010 incident in which a woman was punched in the face at a local sports bar, the newspaper reported.

Obama (pbuh) will get the Black vote -- nobody will argue that point. he will also get the usual suspects; the progs, the greens, the socialists, the hard-core unionists. But he got them in 2008, so there is no change. What has changed is the excitement among those groups. I will be shocked if the turnout among his supporters is not depressed by several %. In addition, the typical detachment and malaise in the college student ranks will return with a vengeance. Add the 3% of Americans who were working in 2008, but aren't today, and you discover a lovely margin for Romney.

This. The Libtards and some minority groups will always break hard for Obastard, but they've seen their little dream die. Some are waking up to the fact that they will NEVER get what they want through the electoral process. It's going to be harder, a lot harder, to get them to the polls in the numbers they enjoyed last cycle. College students are probably getting a healthy dose of self-interest about now, and are no longer so worried about killing Gaia as they are about going/staying broke.
Plus, we've not had the convention yet. Mitt will get a surge then. And now is a good time to work on message crafting and behind the scenes work - save the big budget ads and such until the final stretch where things are building up to a fever pitch. The final push will see the SCOAMF off the cliff to electoral doom.

The war on coal continues:
Senate kills effort to block EPA regulations on coal-powered plants
Legislation to defeat an EPA emissions rule that critics say would kill thousands of jobs and raise electricity rates for consumers was killed in the Senate Wednesday.
A handful of Republicans sided with Democrats to block the measure on a procedural vote of 46 yeas to 53 nays, including Sens. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, Scott Brown of Massachusetts, and Susan Collins and Olympia Snow of Maine.
Democrats who crossed over to vote with Republicans included Sens. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Ben Nelson of Nebraska and Mark Warner and Jim Webb of Virginia.
Republicans say the mercury emission rules for coal-fired plants are the centerpiece of President Barack ObamaÂ’s war on coal.
“This effectively kills coal in America,” said Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), author of the measure.
Republicans said the regulations are the most expensive rules ever created by the EPA, and will cost consumers $10 billion a year in addition to killing 50,000 jobs.

Attorney General Eric Holder said on Friday he had assigned two U.S. attorneys to lead investigations into the possible leaking of state secrets.
“The unauthorized disclosure of classified information can compromise the security of this country and all Americans, and it will not be tolerated,” he said in a statement.
Holder assigned U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Ronald C. Machen Jr., a Democratic appointee, and U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein, a holdover GOP appointee, to lead the investigations.
Machen, who lives in Silver Spring, is expected to move to the District while he holds down the job.
Over the years, he has donated $4,350 to ObamaÂ’s campaigns. He gave $250 to ObamaÂ’s U.S. Senate campaign in 2003, a year before Obama, then an Illinois state senator, emerged on the nationÂ’s political radar, according to campaign finance records.

Quit waiting for an objective Media. Quit expecting the SCOTUS or any Branch of Government or "conservative politician" to perform their constitutional duty. For you? No. DIY
Go figure. Retreat in forfeiture. All hell has broken loose. The sky is falling, chicken little. There is no hill worth preserving so eat, drink and be merry because nothing matters.
Or hold firm to your "Liberty" as once abandoned, much more so the loss. Do not accept unconstitutional dhimmmitard mandates. When those vested with certain authority abuse such, do not accept the abuse of enslavement. Stay organized AND cleanse our Constitutional Governance with the MOST unrelenting persistence.
Don't waste anything infighting to self destruction. It isn't as if we need to "reinvent" the wheel. Rather, cast off authoritarian shackles by virtue of natural rights and constitutional rights.

“Some functions need to stay in the United States, but they don’t need to be in New York City or near the client,” Mr. Malick said. And with most investment giants facing anemic revenue and more stringent regulation that cuts into trading revenues, relocation is more tempting than it was before the financial crisis.
Low-level jobs have already migrated to call centers and back offices overseas, while top-end traders and bankers are secure in the New York area, experts say. Instead, services like accounting, trading and legal support, and human resources and compliance are being shifted to places like Salt Lake City, North Carolina and Jacksonville, Fla.

Btw, where is Obama's FEMA? On vacation? Out of energy? His unions holding out? No one answering the 3 a.m. calls.
Romney's fealty to his fellow Americans was instantaneous, not by ignoring real time disasters as a distraction from his campaign, nor by suspending his campaign, but by DEALING with citizens' needs via organized volunteerism within his campaign to distribute donated water and food NOT at tax payers' expense.

From the war on coal article I posted above:
Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.V.) criticized the coal industry for fighting the new regulations and said the business needs to face the real threats of aging plants, finite reserves, and the rise of natural gas as an alternative.
“The EPA alone is not going to make or break coal. There are many forces exerting pressure and that agency is just one of them,” Rockefeller said.
Right. Especially when governors are prohibiting one of the "many forces exerting pressure":
North CarolinaÂ’s Governor Vetoes Gas Exploration Bill
North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue on Sunday vetoed legislation that would have opened the door to shale gas exploration in that state.
For the second time in the last two years, Governor Purdue has stalled efforts by the Republican-led legislature to foster gas exploration in the tarheel state.
In a message about the veto, Perdue said that while she supports policies that create jobs, she doesnÂ’t want to act too quickly.
Some estimates of the size of the formation under North Carolina could power the state for at least five years and would certainly create a booming industry for North Carolina job-seekers.
This is the second time Purdue has put her political priorities ahead of job-creating legislation. In 2011 she vetoed a similar bill and has since failed to open the state to jobs and revenue that it badly needs.

WALTER RUSSELL MEAD:
Is Meritocracy A Sham?
“Gentry liberals believe that people who score high on SATs, do well in college, and get through the PhD process are, well, smarter than people who don’t do those things and that society will be better off if the dumb people get out of the way and let the smart ones make the important decisions. (And the unimportant ones too — like how big a Slurpee should be.) . . . Wealth and entitlement corrupts the meritocratic elite. Members of this elite can no longer see society easily from the perspective of ordinary people and so their decisions increasingly reflect their own interests rather than those of the people they are supposed to represent.”

I disagree.
First off, by not implementing the State Level provisions of the law, he's taking an actual stand that says, "I don't care what SCOTUS says, we're sovereign within our own state borders."
Second, there are actual concrete steps that can be taken to prevent at least some of the atrocities in the law from affecting the people- Obamacare relies a great deal on the compliance of the States.
Along those lines: New Post up at my place.

Recently, Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy joined black political leaders and community activists in a live radio forum, hosted by Clear Channel-owned WGCI-FM, to discuss ChicagoÂ’s violence epidemic and what - or who - is really to blame.
“It’s a big issue. It’s a long time coming. We’ve done a lot of things wrong in policing in this country. I’m willing to admit that,” said McCarthy. “But this goes back 200-300 years to the time when Pilgrims came here and things developed from that, the African American experience in this country.”

Because no one can cut down trees in Prince George County without a permit, who knows how many knocked over trees hit power lines. (in Maryland, at least)
And the crews have to go down the line at the start of the grid, turning it on block by block to make sure there isn't any other outages then move onto the next grid and/or block. There isn't an easy way to see what's down the line if the main feed is knocked out.

Some comments above concerned the issue of medical school students and how they'd survive. What will happen is this - domestic doctors will be a thing of the past. You'll need some kind of miracle to find a doctor who's name isn't Sanjay or Manishamalamadan. It's already getting difficult with things as they are.
Foreign countries put the bill for doctor ed. on their tax payers. Here, either we will import the ones too second-rate to make good bank in their own lands, or we'll be on the hook to subsidize medical education massively. These days, I assume most of the docs we import are reasonably OK, since they come here to make money. Once rationing and price controls are in place, that incentive will dry up.
