FRIDAAAAY!

Police are investigating the phone harassment of the businessman featured in Romney's first "you didn't build that" ad.

They're mostly calling last night's storms in the Northeast a derecho. Mostly.

If you haven't seen it yet, scroll down for Slu's take on the British hissy fit.

9 Either they took down the article or the link is bad, but it's hardly a surprise Obama 's minions are harrassing a businessman who was in a Romney ad. It's the Chicago Way!! The loving liberals also did it in 2008. I guess the man will tell his friends and neighbors and customers and they'll all vote for Obama now because Obama loves business. 14 The last time I lost power it was for three days. I had plenty of gas and a generator. The neighbors were begging me for water because the well pumps were electric. I was happy to help them. A couple of months later my Lawnmower bit shit. I asked to borrow my neighbors push mower. He said he was sorry, he didn't loan his tools. Yep, libtard.

I pray for them for their healing and redemption but I still loathe them, If they want to express their opinion-fine, but harrassing a person because they want a different President than you do? Not allowing them building permits for a legitimate business. I have never prayed for the specific outcome of a Presidential election in my life. It's just that God would bless and help our nation; I may start praying for a Romney victory in this election.

18 Thanks, Gabe; It works now. Since Obama features donors to the Romney campaign on his website I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's coordinated through the Obama campaign. “I don't want to be paranoid. I don't want to cower to cowards but I really think it is a dark day for our country when this stuff goes on,” Gilchrist said. “It's so extreme and one of my attractions to Governor Romney is that he is not an extremist.”

Where's my batteries, bitch?  Oh, hey, since apparently it's just fine to harass the hell out of people in political ads, can anyone tell me who that woman is so that I can send her the bills for my dental dams and batteries?  Because, after all, I'm sure that she firmly believes in equality and all that and she would be horrified to discover that she's being a heteronormative bigot by acting as if contraception and abortion rights are the central women's issues.  How dare she exclude those of us who are queer?  I find that very offensive and demeaning of my experiences as a self-identified queer woman and I'm certain that must be a civil rights crime of some type.  I demand that the DoJ open an investigation into this hate crime as soon as possible.

Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes.  Here in northern MA, we got nothing from the storm.  A little sprinkle, but that's about all.  I was hoping to hop on the Harley and ride tomorrow, but it looks like crappy weather most of the weekend.  God must be telling me to get to work and write.

In keeping with the sex theme of this week's posts, I was going to write a bit about Marilyn Monroe, having seen one new and two fairly new books about her final days, but I just don't feel like it.  So here's a heads-up for some birthdays over the weekend -

On Saturday, we celebrate the birthday of Barbara LaMarr, known as "The Girl Too Beautiful To Live.".  Born Reatha Watson in 1896, there has always been a persistent rumor that, as a prepubescent lovely, she was willingly initiated into sex by Charlie Chaplin (whose taste for pre-teen pink was notorious throughout Hollywood).  She had a fairly successful silent career, but was also addicted to partying and cocaine, finally dying of tuberculosis and nephritis in 1926.

Sunday is a big day; not only was William "Nick Charles" Powell born on that day in 1892, it's also the birthday of "It" girl Clara Bow (who was waspishly dismissed by flat-chested Dorothy Parker with the remark, "The hell with 'It.' - she had THOSE.").

Also, in 1905, the day saw the birth of the "Ice Cream Blonde" Thelma Todd, a gorgeous comedienne who appeared in films with the Marx Brothers, Laurel and Hardy and Wheeler and Woolsey as well as starring in her own series of working-girl-makes-good comedy shorts, first with ZaSu Pitts and then Patsy Kelly.  Her death is a famous Hollywood mystery, she being found dead in her car inside a closed garage.  Put down as due to carbon monoxide poisoning, it has ben debated for years whether she was actually murdered by her lover, director Roland West, or at the orders of Lucky Luciano, who was at the time attempting to gain a controlling interest in Todd's bistro, Thelma Todd's Sidewalk Cafe.

Finally, July 28, 1895 saw the birth of the first real sex symbol of the movies, Theda Bara, a self-described "nice Jewish girl from Cincinnati" who was, during her five years at the Fox Film Corporation, one of the top three box-office draws in the country, behind only Chaplin and Mary Pickford.

I'm going to do a little self-promotion about Bara; click on my nic to visit my mystery series website.

Hope to pop in and out through the day, but if I don't, I wish all of you a very happy weekend and will see you on Monday.

>>>At least in a hot civil war there's some hope of victory

The cold civil war can be won but the way its fought needs to be understood. Being a civil fracas, its more focused on the social than the material - which industries, agencies, power groups, interests line up with which side. I'd say it was stable, if biased, prior to the advent of the interwebs and the TEA Party - those two 'forces', plus several smaller ones like Julian Assange's group - destabilized a lot of the structure and here we are.

Anyway it all puts us at a disadvantage because at base a conservative tends to focus on merit and real capitalism rathar than favors and social capitalism.

We're also at a disadvantage because:
1.  We generally obey the law
2.  We don't spend our entire lives obsessing about poltics (well, most of us)
3.  We don't lie, to ourselves or others
4.  We have a stake in preserving what is still good -whereas the leftists only want to burn everything down, then tap their feet impatiently as they wait for people like us to rebuild it all
5.  We have shame - there are some things we just will not do
6.  We have to appeal to reason and good judgement - they appeal to man's lowest, basest instincts and the logic of fools
7.  We expect people to using their minds - thinking.  The left appeals only to emotion, at times dressed up in the clothes of pseudointellectualism

The only thing in our favor is this - they are, as individuals, foolish, evil, and self-serving.  Most of them (not all) are cowards.  If our predecessors had had the balls to say NO MORE we would not be in this vile predicament.

81 In actual news, however, it appears that The Obama Administrations lawlessness continues unabated.

WRT the pseudo-DREAM EO, it turns out that ICE and Border Patrol have been told that suspects (that is: illegal aliens) bear no burden of proof that they meet the requirements even of the Executive Order, let alone the law that was never passed.  So an illegal can claim they have a diploma or GED, and the agent just has to believe them and let them go.

I heard the story this morning on the radio, but it's over at Fox News, too.

83 A quote, to whet your appetite:

"Prosecutorial discretion for dreamers is solely based on the individual's claims. Our orders are if an alien says they went to high school, then let them go," he said at a press conference with GOP senators. "Officers have been told that there is no burden for the alien to prove anything. ... At this point we don't even know why DHS has criteria at all, as there is no requirement or burden to prove anything on the part of the alien.

"We believe that significant numbers of people who are not dreamers are taking advantage of this practice to avoid arrest," he said.

There was a huge dark grey cloud that looked like a blanket, and there was a clear demarcation from the sky that looked cloudless behind it. But I don't know if I'd call it a shelf. It actually looked like a tornado sky to me, since that weird greenish color didn't happen so I figured that wasn't in the cards.

I was in a parking lot waiting for someone to come out of the store and was mesmerized by watching the cloud "shelf". It would assimilate little wisps of clouds that formed underneath it.The wind whipped up and folks who were walking or biking were speeding up trying to find cover.

Public acknowledgement is after the fact. The cold civility was 2008.

Combine the analogy of the live critter in the pot not noticing the rising heat until it's done/dead with the thought "jumping out of the pan into the fire." Remember "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" and get out of that wildfire, working smarter and harder when fighting fire with fire, knowing when and not to fire in order to win this civil war and not merely a battle, or worse, the "ashes to ashes" American doom after 2012. United We Stand, Divided We Fall.

Restore America Now, Believe in America
Reinstate Constitutional Governance

It ain't some newly revised extension of authoritarian revisionism that Americans demand this round. It's back to basics: Integrity 101. Ironic that the FDR collective grounds the GOP offensive defense against the 2012 WTF Marxist DNC agenda. I pray the GOP drops its compassionately-interventionist benevolent-authoritarian conservatism. And no one working hard is holding his breath.

Romney's website is smart: "America, Built By US" aligns with Scott Brown's "He's for US!"  Excellent rallying banners.

By calling it a "Derecho" it sounds scarier, so they can blame it on Global Warming.

They do a disservice calling it a derecho unless it actually WAS a derecho.  A derecho is a powerful   line of thunderstorms with sustained     straight-line winds    that can be very destructive   ("Derecho" from the spanish for "straight," "Tornado" from the spanish for "twisted").     Sometimes the winds exceed hurricane force.  They tend to    spring up very suddenly, unlike thunderstorms that you can literally see and hear as they approach, and that makes them dangerous if you're outside working or hiking or even driving.     In urban areas,     like the entire Eastern seaboard, they can wreak havoc on the electrical system; hence Maryland.

If it WAS a derecho (or series of derechos), then I'm glad the damage wasn't worse.   If it WASN'T a derecho, then the media has to stop saying it was.  It undermines    the actual destructiveness and danger a derecho can cause   and makes people more likely to ignore any legitimate warnings.

158 The invisible hand just drew a dirty Sanchez on Fuckerberg. Would it be bad form to try to high-five the invisible hand?

Well, as the commie mayor of London said, it's "easy" to run the Olympics when they're held in the "middle of nowhere" (Salt Lake City).

All that this UK business proves is that boorish behavior by leftards is universal.

162 A derecho huh? Well, it was a very strong storm, but I dunno about this derecho diagnosis. My metal lawn furniture (quite heavy) did get blown over and pushed several yards away from where it had been. Usually the wind does not come from that direction either. The other single chair, about 25 feet away from the grouping, didn't move at all. Since they had called for tornadoes, I decided to get a lovely, bracing triple rum cocktail and hang out down cellar. I sang a little song as I constructed it, it went like this: "A drinking I will go, a drinking I will go, hi ho the derecho, a drinking I will go." I was not attempting to be a clairvoyant, but it really was a weird ass storm. For one thing the wind came in from the opposite direction than our usual nor'easter and heavy storms. Also, while hanging out down cellar I could hear a constant heavy rumble - and I mean constant - that went on for over half an hour. Huge thunder claps would happen every minute or two in addition to the rumble. It certainly did have some unique characteristics, but it wasn't all that bad. Lost power for about 14 hours, no biggy.
