I got nuthin', mostly because I couldn't sleep last night and then got up to play Civ V: Gods and Kings until the wee hours and then overslept just now. Life.

Those of you who protest the most of your rationality and sanity are the ones most highly suspect.

How is Civ V? I loved II and III but IV kinda blew chunks. It bogged my machine down and it seemed like they sacrificed game play for graphics.
I went back to III.

SS isn't fraudulent it's the Disability section that is. With lawyers and Federal workers in the mix how could it be otherwise.
I'm afraid that an Article 5 convention is likely out of the question due to the risks of the process being highjacked from the start and turned into a power grab worse than the situation we're in now.
With all that would be at stake it's almost guaranteed it would make things worse.
A massive repudiation of Obama and the party giving him cover may get us back on track. Only if Republicans actually implement the supposed ideals and don't try to fix the government on the people who have been thrown out of work will they survive to continue the process.
It's a crapshoot from now until 2020.

The VRA is a major fail, but it is not just the courts who are selling us out. The Republicans just joined forces with the CBC to renew it for another 25 years. This section of the law was supposed to expire in 5 years and they have renewed it every time. Heaven forbid that Republicans be labeled as racist by the CBC.
They have had 3 opportunities to get rid of the CRA which has similar problems and failed every time. The last case was one from TX who thought because of Sandra Day O'Conners said the time for discrimination based on race was over and there should be no more need for "affirmative action" soon.
They were wrong. It is OK to discriminate based on race as long as white males are the ones being discriminated. This despite plain wording that says it is illegal.
That in addition to the blatant disregard for private property.

That is what I said. As for the convention we stand a lot better chance of that working than anything else. There are a lot more red states than there are blue states and each state gets one vote on stuff.
In short, you are wrong.

>>In short, it is a cool Summer so far.
I lol'd. It's been too hot to go outside since Memorial Day weekend, and hit triple digits here in June. Low humidity, though.
Just remember, when they talk about "all-time" highs, they mean since they started keeping data in the late 19th century, and "normal" means "the average between 1970 and 2000"...or have they switched to 1980-2010 already? It's just a thirty year average, either way. It's a bullshit word. "Normal" high for today might be 89, but 95 is not "abnormal" in July.
Proggs could never have pushed this global warming crap so successfully if "educators" hadn't spent the last 40 years replacing math curricula with social justice. Harrumph.

Exactly and I believe it is our only and last chance to fix things. Supreme Court rulings and the sackless Republican Party, as demonstrated with the highway bill among others, shows that they will NOT fix things in Washington. So we must move outside of Washington.
Continuing on the present course will either result in collapse and degeneration into mass violent upheaval or revolution which will accomplish the same thing.

Oh, so it's Algonquin stories today? Other than Dorothy Parker's comment after a miscarriage - "Looks like I put all my eggs in one bastard" - I got nothing. But here's a Hollywood story about language:
Harry Cohn, head of Columbia Studios (and the man who gypped the Three Stooges out of a fortune) stormed into a story conference one morning totally pissed off. "Goddammit!" he shouted, "do I have to do everything around here?" When asked what was wrong, he raged, "I may not be a college man, but I know goddamn well people in Bible times didn't go around saying 'yes, siree' and 'no, siree!" The writers agreed. "Well, then, what's it doing in the script?" Cohn fumed. An astonished Clifford Odets, who happened to be at the conference, asked "Where?. Cohn slapped the script down on the table and pointed to a page. As the writers gathered around, they followed Cohn's finger to read yes, sire and no, sire.
There was a long silence before one of the writers finally said, "We'll fix it, Harry."

Art 5 couldn't take us to a worse place than our current politicians and courts are trying to take us. The agit-prop is loudest from the pols that have the most to lose if the people reclaim some of their power.
I keep thinking of the Gulliver's Travels analogy where the people have been slowly and incrementally tied down by millions of tiny threads (regulation/laws/"penalties) until they can no longer move at all.

As far as I can tell, the Founders put all the necessary tools in the Constitution to allow the people to redirect the course of the federal government. Unfortunately, the political class soon figured out that they could do quite well for themselves by using other people's money for redistribution. The Founders knew that government power attracts evil people (having seen a mostly monarchical Europ, but I think even they underestimated the sheer venality of this century's (1900-2012) political class!

A CA land developer sues a town because the FAA enforced a newer policy preventing the development as contracted. The developer does not negotiate with the town of 600 residents over terms of repayment, preferring to squeeze blood from rock turnips.
Given that it's the FAA policy, sue the FAA for causing breach of contract. Fat chance.
Why is the onus on the town and not the developers to complete as contracted v. FAA policy? The developers are responsible for abiding by land restrictions and codes, that includes whatever FAA policy.

The federal government became supreme after the war of 1861. That as when the Constitution as written and understood by the founders ceased to exist. But it actually started falling apart much sooner than that in the 1850s.

@59
The guy admitted he started the fire and that it got out of control. He called 911 and said "I started the fire and it got out of control."
When the cops showed up to question him, he handed them a box of shotgun shells and said, "This is what I used to start the fire that got out of control."
I've been involved in no less than a dozen large range fires started by a wee bit of phosphorous from a tracer round. It is not at all far-fetched to assume that a 12-gauge shell that belches fire could do the same.
Especially when the guy fessed up.
"We knew nothing about gunwalking" = good example of government lying.
Confession from private citizen who started a fire = not an example of government lying.

Philly's the largest refinery on the coast, dumped because (1) Sun ran it to death (2) presumed insufficient pipeline to get Bakken crude, committing it to high-price EuroBrent. New operator will use tank cars (!) lots of them, but let's not forget that Phil (and Marcus Hook) were there because that's where the oil was, and by god sir there is still oil down there. What we are seeing here is a LOT of people in the Midwest experiencing what we in the SE routinely experience when a hurricane comes through and does widespread damage.
When large swathes of the grid are knocked out it can take a long long time to restore power. How fast you personally get power back depends on three things. (1) Are your local neighborhood lines intact. (2) How far are you from a feeder line (3) Are yuo in a densely populated area.
When Hugo came through I got power back in 4 or 5 days. My neighborhood wires are underground and I am only a block away from a feeder line. Most people outside of town took 10 days or so to get power back. Some people who lived in remote areas were without power for months.
Of course if you are one of the few people who are on the "immediate restore" list you will get it back as soon as they can get it.

Every politician's spouse is scrutinized once he or she steps onto the national stage, and Ann Romney, wife of Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, is next to come under the lens. In the months leading up to the election, what Mrs. Romney wears will be examined as much as what she says. So far, we've seen her wearing everything from bold patterns to form fitting sheaths, but a clear style has not yet emerged. We wondered: Does Ann Romney need a fashion makeover? “The Shine” sat down with stylist-to-the-stars Robert Verdi to find out.
Yes, a big news story is to ask some queen how Anne Romney should dress and be more stylish. Maybe if Anne went for the boob belts she'd be as fashionable as Aunt Esther Obama. Now that it appears that candidate's wives are fair game how about looking into Esther's $300,000 job that didn't exist before or after or her law license.

It is FAR TOO EASY for villains to use current law to destroy the innocent with Alinsky methodology, for sadistic pleasure if for no other reason, "Because I Could".
Federal and State officials have abused authority to the extent that our civil liberties no longer exist by laws "intended" to protect us from ourselves, empowering officials to afflict misery "for our own good" and their profit at taxpayer citizenry's incomprehensible expense; ex: ObamaCare.

It was a grim day for many Iranians today as the nation commemorated the 24th anniversary of the 1988 attack on Flight 655, an Iranian passenger airliner that was shot down over the Strait of Hormuz by the US Navy, killing all 290 civilians aboard. The Iranian Foreign Ministry blasted the US for the killings, adding that to this day the US has refused to apologize for the attack. The warship’s commander, William C.
