Good morning, Moron Nation. Can't say I enjoyed myself very much yesterday. Got up, tried to write, tore it up then went back downstairs to grab a bottle of Bushmill's and watch 1776 to remind myself we used to be willing to fight for freedom.
But, bear in mind, I'm almost always depressed to some degree or other, so it was a regular day for me.
Today saw the release of the Douglas Fairbanks film Wild and Woolly in 1917. The scenario was written by Anita Loos, a very talented writer who is best known today for the book Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. The movie is the usual "fish out of water learns to adapt" story, as Doug grows from effete Easterner to tough Western hero. It was shot in Fort Lee, New Jersey, which was home to a large number of studios - including Fox, Pathe and Solax - before the general exodus to California.
And so, with that, I give you a Fairbanks story:
One morning in 1926, Fairbanks arrived on the United Artists lot full of excitement at the box office success of his new movie, The Black Pirate. But about an hour later, Joseph Schenck, the head of UA, saw him stumbling around, his hand clutching a piece of paper and a dazed look in his eyes. "My God, Doug, what's the matter?" Schenck exclaimed. "Has something happened to Mary?" (Pickford, Fairbanks' wife). Fairbanks looked blankly at Schenck for a moment, then handed him the paper. It was a letter from an exhibitor, enclosing a check, explaining that he had made so much money from a week's showing of The Black Pirate that his conscience bothered him and he was sending some of it to Fairbanks.
I'll be popping in and out while I deal with two more days of (ugh) work. Hope all you 'rons and 'ronettes have a wonderful day.

Chuck E. Cheese gets makeover
Chuck E. CheeseÂ’s new national ad campaign features this updated image of the companyÂ’s mascot. The company will retire both the giant rodentÂ’s outdated image and the man who provided its voice. CEC Entertainment Inc. says it plans to launch a national ad campaign today with a revamped image of Chuck E. Cheese as a hip, electric-guitar-playing rock star.
The new Chuck E. Cheese that launches this week will be voiced by Jaret Reddick, the lead singer for the pop-punk band Bowling for Soup. The Chuck E. Cheese Facebook page now shows a silhouette of a cartoon mouse playing a guitar.

There is now nothing under the sun that cannot be regulated or taxed.
The mandate term will probably be retired due to Roberts unilateral linkage to taxes. We should expect to see a lot more mandatory requirements emanating from the penumbra of the ruling classes.

After all, what is the penalty in Bark Obama's America for liberals lying, cheating, or even committing treason? Will the media howl for action when wrongdoing is uncovered? Will Congress pass meaningful, enforceable laws to make miscreant "servants of the people" toe the line? Will voters hold the worthless eunuchs in D.C. accountable?
I think you know the answer, and it ain't the right answer.

At least two steps removed, America from Europe then. Best thing, colonists leaving the Old World behind to forge a new life in a new world, willing to forfeit and REJECT monarchy as our Founders did, without insisting on the death of remaining Monarchs and aristocracy. Free trade and self sufficiency, with reminders in the Monroe Doctrine for Europe to keep a healthy distance from military enterprises in the Americas.
The French in France who wanted to HAVE France rather than leave and start anew, their revolution's final solution is history: off with their heads. Blood lust ensued. While they were at it, conquer the world propagandizing "liberty, equality and brotherhood."

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits last week fell by the most in two months, government data showed on Thursday, a hopeful sign for the struggling labor market.
Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped 14,000 to a seasonally adjusted 374,000, the Labor Department said. The prior week's figure was revised up to 388,000 from the previously reported 386,000.

I'd be unsurprised to learn there were bathhouses and glory holes, very surprised to learn anyone admitted to patronizing them. The concept of basing your whole social life and career and political identity around that--blow the Founders' minds.
But you know, I think they'd grasp that "insurance coverage" is not "healthcare."

Two things: 1) at some point, you can't lay off any more people without just closing your doors, and 2) expect this number to be revised upward. Substantially.
Also, that's just initial unemployment claims. Until we see how many jobs were added, that's just not even a relevant data point. And then factor in truly "seasonal" jobs like people running fireworks stands (through much of June).

Initial claims. But you're probably right for "total" unemployment. Expect incredibly weak job creation and yet a falling UE number.
Talking to my SIL, her 21 year old is on her insurance, and she wanted to drop him once he moved out. No dice, says her employer, until you prove he has his own insurance.
That may just be corporate policy. Some companies require that everyone who is eligible for insurance be covered or prove they have insurance elsewhere. It's not common, but it happens. I've worked for one of those, in fact. Not only did they not provide a stipend if you chose to carry your own insurance (again: rare, but it happens), they required proof of coverage elsewhere before you could opt out of their plan.
The other option, of course, is that it's a wonderful little land-mine in Obamacare.

IMO, Jefferson was the most overrated of the FFs. Sure he could write, but he was wrong on so many other things, including the FR. He also died a bankrupt because he couldn't control his spending, leaving lots of others holding the bag. As Franklin might have said, responsibility begins at home.
According to "The Jefferson Lies," David Barton says this is one of the worst slanders to affect Jefferson. The reason he died broke, Barton says, is because he insisted on paying his "slaves."

My guess is that the insurance policy is either partially or fully insured (that is: the Insurance Company is on the hook for some or all of the insurance claims), and the insurance company wrote that into the contract to ensure they had the maximum risk dilution. By requiring everyone to either have insurance already or to take the company policy, the Insurance Company avoids a little additional risk.
It's highly unlikely the would write such a provision in a Fully Funded contract.

I marched in the local July 4 parade, carrying the Tea Party Banner, got invited to join yet another Tea Party in an adjoining county, on the "action team", i.e.rabblerousers, and invited to a function for McCrory, the Rethuglican running for Guv. Gonna go. Gonna rouse some rabble. Baited quite a few lefties and progressives and enjoyed getting to shut them down. They really are clumsy on their proverbial feet...
Amazing how simple facts shut down a leftist bully. Offering them a view of the fact in question, like CBO budget numbers offered by an impartial source (on your Iphone) helps seal the 'shut the hell up' nature of things.
As an aside, where we were cheered and applauded, the Dem contingent was ignored or heckled. Gotta love the South...

In the same vein, some pasty-faced computer-potato "conservative" over at NRO was making excuses for Roberts this morning, claiming his main issue was avoiding having to discuss "severability" in the ObamaScare bill.
I got news: if the bill DOESN'T MENTION severability, then it ain't there. The Supremes have no right to look for what doesn't exist.
If one part of the bill is unconstitutional -- and I'm sure many parts would have been found so, if anyone bothered to read the whole friggin' 2700 pages instead of the Marvel Comics illustrated abridged version, which I'm sure is what "guided" Roberts -- then the whole damn thing is dead. That's the way it used to work, before the Age of Bark Obama.

Last week supporters of Federal Reserve transparency had a major victory when the House Committee on Government Oversight and Reform passed my Audit the Fed bill, HR 459 unanimously with all major audit provisions intact. This clears the way for a House floor vote expected sometime in late July, and with 263 cosponsors, the chances of it passing have never looked better! This is an unprecedented opportunity for transparency into how the currency of the United States is handled, and mishandled by the Federal Reserve. It is more important than ever that my colleagues in the House and Senate understand what this legislation does and why it is so important.
...
While the Fed was created by Congress, current law prohibits Congress from fully auditing the Fed's monetary policy - the Fed actions that impact Americans the most. The Fed's financial statements are audited annually, but the Fed's monetary policy operations are exempt from audit. Congress' investigative arm, the Government Accountability Office (GAO), currently is prohibited by law from examining discount window and open market operations; agreements with foreign governments and central banks; and Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) directives. It is precisely this information that should be made public.

H.R. 459 does not limit the focus of the audit, making a full audit finally possible. An entity that controls the value and purchasing power of the dollar should not be permitted to operate in the dark without oversight by Congress and accountability to the people. The Fed needs transparency and H.R. 459 would provide it. We now have this opportunity to ensure solid passage of HR 459.

So for him, a post-racial America, which is what the election of Obama was supposed to launch, is the worst possible thing that could happen to him. He is no different from the Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton types who have a vested interest in things staying the same while claiming to desire change.

@269,
He's got big moobs, but hers are bigger. Freakishly big on a tiny frame. She wore one of those slutty Oktoberfest beer-wench outfits for Halloween and I will NOT let some leering pervert make her feel uncomfortable in this office.

@230 That shit may play well to a relatively small fraction of his (former) audience, but there are still a lot of folks in this country that don't take kindly at all to that stinking garbage.
I don't agree. I think the audience for Chris Rock is in perfect agreement with him. Add in guilty whites, and there's your 52% right there.
I wish I were President. I'd go on TV with Rock's tweet and say, "OK. I notice that Chris Rock and a lot of other people don't want to celebrate the Fourth because we still had slavery in 1776 and we're a nation built on war and genocide. That's fine. It's your right. But I want to help you put your money where your mouth is. For the next 48 hours, anyone who feels like Chris Rock does can get on an airliner at no charge and fly to a better country. Oh, and by the way, as you leave, we're taking back all the money you made in this evil country and your passport. Since you want to be out, you can stay out."

WEST SIDE STORY, 1956
"AMERICA"
ROSALIA
Puerto Rico,
You lovely island . . .
Island of tropical breezes.
Always the pineapples growing,
Always the coffee blossoms blowing . . .
ANITA
Puerto Rico . . .
You ugly island . . .
Island of tropic diseases.
Always the hurricanes blowing,
Always the population growing . . .
And the money owing,
And the babies crying,
And the bullets flying.
I like the island Manhattan.
Smoke on your pipe and put that in!
OTHERS
I like to be in America!
O.K. by me in America!
Ev'rything free in America
For a small fee in America!
ROSALIA
I like the city of San Juan.
ANITA
I know a boat you can get on.
ROSALIA
Hundreds of flowers in full bloom.
ANITA
Hundreds of people in each room!
ALL
Automobile in America,
Chromium steel in America,
Wire-spoke wheel in America,
Very big deal in America!
ROSALIA
I'll drive a Buick through San Juan.
ANITA
If there's a road you can drive on.
ROSALIA
I'll give my cousins a free ride.
ANITA
How you get all of them inside?
ALL
Immigrant goes to America,
Many hellos in America;
Nobody knows in America
Puerto Rico's in America!
ROSALIA
I'll bring a T.V. to San Juan.
ANITA
If there a current to turn on!
ROSALIA
I'll give them new washing machine.
ANITA
What have they got there to keep clean?
ALL
I like the shores of America!
Comfort is yours in America!
Knobs on the doors in America,
Wall-to-wall floors in America!
ROSALIA
When I will go back to San Juan.
ANITA
When you will shut up and get gone?
ROSALIA
Everyone there will give big cheer!
ANITA
Everyone there will have moved here!

Have you considered applying for a government grant? Perhaps something under the Endangered Species Act to better protect this great natural resource?

That's true- Joe Television, while a noted talk show host (famous for interviewing FDR at the time of the stock market crash) did not in fact invent the television.
This singular achievement is most properly credited to a disgruntled radio repairman that lived on the outskirts of Montreal named Talleyrand "Telly" Vachon.
The world changing invention was the result of an unfortunate mix of an oscilloscope, a dismantled ham radio, a great deal of Molson Brador ale, a smoked muskrat poutine (with turnip gravy), and a 9 fingered/one legged woman of ill repute who went by the name of....ANDREA MITCHELL.
True story, like.
