And now. . .on Friday, I promised you an Alfred Hitchcock story today, since it's his birthday (1899).  Frankly, I don't care for any of his movies; I find them too mannered for my taste, and I don't have the weakness for icy blondes that he did.  No matter.

One day, Hitch stepped into a New York hotel elevator with a friend and immediately began talking as though continuing a conversation: "So I turned on the light, and there was this girl in the middle of the floor.  Her throat was slit and there was a great puddle of blood.  Beside the body was a knife.  I was in a spot.  If I called the police, there'd be a nasty row, and if I didn't somebody would find me there.  So I took out my handkerchief and carefully. . ."

At this point, the elevator stopped at Hitchcock's floor and he quietly stepped off with his companion, leaving everybody in the car goggle-eyed.

One commenter said that people who try to educate the electorate during a campaign inevitably lose, and that therefore RR was doomed. I guess we'll find out, but I like our chances.

Agreed.  I, too, like our odds.  America doesn't need to be educated in the fact that the last 4 years have sucked and there has been no improvement on any front.  Intuition alone will tell you that.  And Obie and company provide us with all the ammo we need to tear them down.  Americans may not be collectively as far right as those of us here, but the US is still center-right, and the only thing propping up Obie's dwindling popularity is the media cover-up of most of his worst acts.  All we need do is trot out our leaston controvercial softball remedies that easily resonate with people, and then harp on the multitude of ways that Obie and company are destroying America and are, simply, stupid.  Their stupidity, especially that of Joe Biden, is an asset.  If it were me, I'd run a Biden-gaffe ad and ask the question at the end - "Do you want this man 1 heart beat away from the presidency?"

This.  Once we're in, there needs to be a vigorous, merciless hunt.  We need trial after trial of these scum.   They need to be broken and bankrupted, and they need to be used to go after those who were in the government.  We need to root out as many Obie supporters as possible, and put them in jail.   Federal, pound-em-in-the-*ass prison.

   I think the approach would be like this:  Given them a few weeks away from the libtard fever swamp, to let their tiny brains clear.  Then start showing them what has really happened in history, and how the real world actually works - I'd expect that to take about a month.  At that point either they'll get it, or they'll stay in deep denial.  Then you separate the sheep from the goats.  Some go back to society, the rest go on the boat for relocation in Europe or whatever other Leftist shit hole will have them.

Truly laughable, firstly because at this point in 2008 McCain was closing in on Obama, and secondly because McCain was dealing with an economic crisis when a wildly umpopular Republican President was in office. The vignette was a microcosm of the leftard/conservative dynamic: the loudmouth lefty came in, spewed, all the while helping himself to complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres. Meantime the conservative (me) was arranging with the artist to purchase her goods, thereby stimulating the economy. And all I consumed was two pretzel sticks. 

The whole idea of "quota sampling" is a fallacy. A random sample is a random sample. I can't explain why the partisan gap is in any given poll, but that doesn't mean the topline numbers should be dismissed as invalid.

And Gabe actually said there was "no evidence" he was in trouble, not that he didn't agree with the evidence. Either Gabe is a liar, or he is so ignorant that he does not deserve to post here at all.

I'm also glad they bring up gun rights and same sex marriage.  Most Americans favor our side on those issues.  Obie didn't "evolve" on gay marriage to bring in more of the straight vote.  He did it to shore up his demoralized base.

Folks, you need to stop obsessing with media organizations polls (Foxnews, CNN, NBC/WSJ, ABC/Washington Post, CBS/NYT, Reuters, Politico) because they are highly inaccurate. A person with basic knowledge of math would focus on the much more accurate “daily tracking polls” of Rasmussen and to a less degree of Gallup.

The reasons for that are simple statistics:

A daily tracking poll such as Rasmussen polls 500 people “per day”, polls likely voters, has much better breakdown on party ID in the poll sample, and poll a total of 15,000 people a month. The Gallup daily tracking poll is less accurate than Rasmussen because they poll “registered voters” which gives Obama a 3 points advantage over his real numbers.

On the other hand one media organization poll only polls 1,000 people “per month”, polls adult/registered voters, and ridiculously oversamples democrats.

So it does not take a math genius to figure out that the “daily tracking polls” are vastly more accurate than media organization polls for the reasons mentioned above.

In the past 10 years, polling has become much more accurate.  The techniques and technology to sample down to the precinct level are far above what used to be the state-of-the-art. 

Both campaigns know exactly where they are.  As you can tell from the 15 million reported on Obama's campaign expenditures on polling, today's methods are not cheap.  You can normally tell where a candidate is in trouble by where they are advertising early, but that can be misleading too if there is a lack of cash.

In spite of this, there are still those on our side (Eric Ericson and others) who take public polls at face value to come up with insane memes like "Mitt was in trouble".  I wish there was some way to raise the intelligence of people with a platform so that we wouldn't have to retake the same ground twice.

I was not a Romney supporter at the start of the primary season, but I've become very impressed with him.  The bruising primary made him a better candidate that could articulate why he wanted to be President.  He has been staying pretty on-message that the nation's economic woes are due to misguided policies originating from the federal government.

The selection of Ryan for VP just added to the awesomeness of the ticket.  Romney obviously wants to have a serious debate about what the American people should expect from the federal government.  Both men come across as thoughtful individuals ready to make hard decisions, motivated by a love of country not by malice to particular groups.

I am optimistic.  I feel like the bizarro world we are living in where character and competence don't matter is about to end.  I even feel as though I know my fellow citizens again,, and that they are begining to wake from their rhetorically induced coma.  Tough challenging times ahead even if R&R win, but hopeful.

I also like the energy policy R&R released.  Drill the continental shelf.  Build the pipeline.  Drill Anwar.  Frack.  That will reduce our oil imports, put a lot af Americans back to work, and "fuel" a real recovery.

I am hopeful.

No one expects someone talented in writing/creative shit to be an effective manager of the backroom/business end of a website.  Those are two different talents and there is no shame in admitting to a lack of one.
