Happy Thursday.

Jim Geraghty had the news of the morning: additional GOP convention speakers just announced include Kelly Ayotte, Bobby Jindal, Connie Mack, Bob McDonnell, Bob Portman, and the surely-going-to-piss Democrats-off Artur Davis.

Rep. Ryan makes clear, in case there was actually any doubt, he's going to support the policies that Romney supports, even when they're different than a previous Ryan plan.

If this NYTimes piece is any indication, Democrats are mighty nervous about the ads planned by the Special Operations Opsec Education Fund to attack Obama over the national security leaks.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Thursday, August 16, 2012.  On this day in 1841 U.S. President John Tyler vetoed a bill which called for the re-establishment of the Second Bank of the United States. Enraged Whig Party members riot outside the White House in the most violent demonstration on White House grounds in U.S. history.  Replace “Whig” with Democrat and you have what he have today.  The central bank of the United States was a key feature in what was known as “The American System” which was the original crony corruption in the US and one of the major contributors to the war of 1861.  And it is still around today under the name of “The Fed”.  And note that the Whigs rioted when they did not get their way.  Sound familiar.

2 Obama now backs Biden on his “chain” comment.  As I said the other day, this is the “deny deny deny” defense when caught in bed with your wifeÂ’s sister.  Are you going to believe your lying ears or what we say about this event?  This campaign is literally falling apart and these are some really arrogant assholes.  They think people are really stupid just because a lot of them voted for them one time.  In this case they should get down on their hand and knees and beg Trent Lott for an apology and offer to kiss his ass on Strom ThurmanÂ’s grave.

5 Unfuckingbelievable outrage of the day!!!  Another damned round of phony stimulus in which the labor department will hand out millions to subsidize payrolls to prevent layoffs. (It appears this $100M is just the initial layout and more will come)  Most of this will go to heavy Democrat districts, except I am sure Obama will use it heavy in his “1936” FDR strategy in swing States.  There is not mention as to where the initial layout will go, but I will bet it will be MI first.  The real pisser; THIS WAS A GD REPUBLICAN BILL!!!!!  It was introduced by Dave Camp (RINO-MI) (ACU 72)  But the House passed it.  We knew about this bill, but NOT this POS piece of it.

White Lies

After Katrina Burton picks up a hitchhiker on her way to a teaching job deep in the North Cascades, she becomes fearful and lies to get him out of her car. Shockingly, the hitchhiker ends up being a fellow teacher, and Katrina's growing network of lies becomes a grisly nightmare.

18 And finally here is a kindle “deal” that canÂ’t be beat.  ItÂ’s free.  The title appears to be somewhat misleading.  From the description it is a religious fantasy involving “time travel” to biblical figures. I havenÂ’t read it yet but it looks interesting and it is free.

The title is Lilith, A Romance. But it doesn’t appear to be a “romance” in the typical venue for chick books.

23 From the WaPo OPSEC article: In an effort to portray Mr. Obama as a braggart taking credit for the accomplishments of special forces and intelligence operatives, the video omits some of his remarks in announcing Bin Laden’s killing. In that late-night televised address, Mr. Obama credited 10 years of “tireless and heroic work of our military and our counterterrorism professionals,” but that is edited out. This Scott Shane asswipe little bitch of Pravda on the Potomac thinks those eleven little words were enough to excuse the SCOAMF's disgustingly treasonous, un-American behavior. No common ground.

24 Morning all, thanks for the news Vic. As far as I am concerned there is no silver lining on the Supreme Court ruling. It broke the trust of the public in the idea that the rule of law would be upheld at least by one institution of government. It showed that the systemic rot had at last overtaken it as well. Never ever will I trust the nomination of any candidate because Roberts showed he could be bought off. And I bet we will find out twenty years from now what he was bought off with. Hope it was good for him, the bastard.

Another day of depressing news.  Say what you will about the Whigs, Vic, but we could use a little more of that sort of public insurrection these days.  If assholes like Pelosi and Boehner woke up every morning pissing themselves wondering if this was the day a mob was going to hang them from a lamppost, we might not have such a rotten, corrupt government.

Apologies to any 'rons or 'ronettes who might have gone to see The Kid last night; the lecture and screening is actually next week, on the 22nd.  I completely blanked on it.  Looks like this was the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.

Today I have a couple of Groucho Marx stories (and, BTW, if you haven't read his autobiography, Groucho and Me, you're missing out on a very funny book).

At the premiere of C.B. DeMille's 1949 biblical epic Samson and Delilah, starring Hedy Lamarr and Victor Mature, a number of Hollywood stars were in attendance.  Knowing Groucho's acid wit, DeMille's press agents gave orders that no one connected with Paramount was to interview him.  It happened, though, that a group of regular reporters saw Groucho and, in all innocence, asked him what he thought of the movie.

"First time I ever saw a movie where the leading man's tits were bigger than the leading lady's," Groucho said.

The second story concerns You Bet Your Life, Groucho's famous TV show.  Because of Groucho's quick and often raunchy humor, the show was prerecorded so that any objectionable parts could be edited out.  One of the most famous of these edits concerns a contestant who, when asked by Groucho to talk about herself, mentioned that she was the mother of 19 children.

"Nineteen?" Groucho responded.  "That's a big family and a big responsibility."

"Well, I love my husband," the woman replied.

Groucho gave her The Look.  "Lady, I love my cigar, too, but I take it out of my mouth once in a while."

And that's it for me.  Hope you all have a wonderful day.  Truman, best of luck with the doctor.  I'll say a prayer for you.

Yes.

Most of these agencies have armed security at their facilities.  Given the amount of nuts out there, I understand the need for armed security.  The question isn't whether or not they need to be buying ammo, the question should be whether or not they need security.

You can argue whether or not the agencies need to have armed security (I think they do) but if you're going to agree they need a security force, then you should agree that the force needs ammo.  Tasers aren't quite the deterrent that .45 ACP is.

When you consider the geographic dispersion of these agencies and the number of facilities to protect, none of these quantities of ammo to be purchased constitute a "massive" amount despite what Alex Jones thinks.

Oh, and Alex Jones is an idiot.

Something just doesn't smell right here.

The volume of these purchases seem about right for security guards for these agencies.  Though I am not sure if the individual agencies normally purchase their own ammunition for security.  Just a non-conspiratorial thought I had.

On the whole the Screwed Generation thing, and I am not trying to start the generation war, I'm not, I have a pet theory that part of the reason why trying to scream burn the math witch at Ryan won't work is because Gen X and later generations have been told all their lives that SS and Medicare will not exist by the time they are old enough to collect it.  It's background noise by this point.  For those who are upper end Gen X, like me, it's been discussed as part of retirement planning that you need to plan you won't get a penny from SS and that Medicare won't exist and it's more or less an accepted truth.  Even my hard core Left friends admit this is the truth.  Now, we differ radically on what to do about that but for the MFM to say Ryan's a freakish liar for pointing out what is part of our assumed worldview is eyerollingly stupid.  Basically the response to oh noes Ryan says Medicare won't exist is "and?"  I'm not surprised in the slightest that Gen X et al are reacting with a shrug to that line of attack.

76 @74

As it was explained to me, all of these agencies are responsible for their own security, so if they hire and support their security staff then their would be budget lines for ammo purchases. Depending on the procurement chains these agencies work with and through they might all receive at nearly the same time so it would make it seem sinister when it is in fact perfectly innocuous.

Or they are arming to the teeth for when Obama calls off the election and installs martial law.

Oh I agree they should be protected by Federal Marshals, it's just that the Marshal service would need to go on a massive hiring binge to staff these locations.

And Rent-a-Cop is not the solution.  Although Wackenhut tends to be the best of the bunch.

Also, let's not forget DC budget cycles.  Why all these RFPs for ammo now?  Because it's the end of the year and Fed agencies look in their budgets and if there is money "left over" they try to buy forward stuff like this that they know they will need.

The actual outrage to this whole thing is the annual rush to spend before the end of the fiscal year.  The theory being, "If we don't spend it all this year, they'll give us even less next year!"

This is true.  That's the way it should be.  It's called "budgeting."

Something just doesn't smell right here. Before USAPATRIOT and Homeland Security Acts, most were. Since then, most of these internal security assets have been upgraded from security guard billets to police officer billets. IMO, agencies did this upgrade to get out from under a special law that requires that all new security guard hires be veterans preference eligibles so long as any are available in the applicant pool. The post-9/11 laws gave them the funding and opportunity. With the upgrades, the equipment, organization, and training requirements went through the roof, and these crazy solicitations are the boondoggle part of the change. This doesn't make it right, but it does help to explain why DoEd bought short-barreled shotguns for their SWAT team.

88 My solution for SS???

Kill it immediately for all who have an income from any source above 200K per year.  Keep it for everyone over 55 who has made plans for retirement that include it.  Reduce it by half for those who are between 45 and 55. And eliminate it for those under 45.

Also totally eliminate SSDI now.

If they actually want SS make them pass a Constitutional amendment that makes it legal.

And eliminate all the taxes.

They are buying 174,000 rounds for 41 locations.

That's a little over 4,200 rounds per location.

A single range qualification day for the security force will burn about 2,500 rounds without even thinking about it.  Most locations qualify with their weapons twice per year.

Why you all think this is "massive" is totally beyond me.

Don't forget that DHS includes the Coast Guard.  That's where a lot of their ammo goes.  ICE and the Border Patrol qualify with their weapons routinely (as do Coasties).

DHS is a monster, and give the amount of armed folks they have, that number....even with a "B" for "billion" is not large.

NOAA has about 150 discrete physical locations in the U.S.  50K rounds is not a lot for NOAA.

Tom Colburn (R-OK) cleared his throat, saying, “Umm, excuse me, sir?” The Attorney General explained that “non-Westerners” have historically placed little emphasis on people proving who they were through written identification, including when voting. “In Asia, Africa, but especially Latin America,'' declared Holder, ''people have not asked to produce documentation proving who they said they were, even when going to vote…granted the few occasions they were allowed to do so.” According to Holder, although there is no “physical imperative” to Hispanics and other “ethnicities of color” obtaining government-issued identification [such as when Robocop (1987) attempted to arrest executives of his Omni Consumer Corporation], such requirements would, as Holder put it, “demean the long tradition of trusted, verbal self-identification so common with ‘non-Western cultures’ in the United States, and so would show great disrespect if they were made to produce ‘an official writ’ proving they are who they claim they are.”

How else can we achieve that unless we allow Hispan…I mean, uhh, ‘people’ to practice the traditions of the native lands they came from? Anything less would be discriminatory.” Adjourning from the hearing Wednesday afternoon, ranking committee member Rep. Chuck Grassely (R-IA) said to congressional reporters, “I…I would give comment on what the Attorney General said today and how it bodes for the future of preventing voter fraud, but first let me go change my pants….Excuse me.” Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus hailed the Attorney General’s testimony as “long awaited bluntness” and said that if states like Florida, Arizona, New Mexico and Pennsylvania continue demanding their voters prove who they were before voting, it was now a matter of blatant discrimination –certainly nothing any legislature or governor wished to be accused of.

DHS is a monster, and give the amount of armed folks they have, that number....even with a "B" for "billion" is not large.

1.2 billion rounds. In 5 months. I just can't wrap my head around that. I'd love to see a comparison to what the military uses, domestically, in a similar time frame.

It's all part of the plan.

Obama has just made millions of illegal aliens legal with a stroke of
his memo writing pen.

He now needs his muscle agency to make sure these new legals aren't hassled when they go vote for their patron.

It's all part of the plan to fundamentally change the USA, as we have seen,
you can do a lot of unmaking in four years but they need eight to fully realize their scheme.

They just might get it.

135 On the ammo thing, the conspiracy nuts also don't understand how government contracting works.

The government frequently lets indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contracts that authorize the purchase of up to a certain amount of a good at a set price over a period of time. They then place an initial order for a much smaller amount than the overall size of the contract.

Not saying that's the case here, but it was with the DHS ammo purchase.

I think the Holder quote is a joke.

From the source of that quote:

>>  Laurie Burgess, PhD, Associate Chair of Anthropology at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C., agrees with the Attorney GeneralÂ’s reasoning, pointing to historical evidence that written proof for oneÂ’s identity was a phenomenon mainly contained to Europe and some of North Africa.   Heading to the bowels of the Smithsonian Institute Wednesday, Dr. Burgess unveiled an ancient and rare 54-pound rock slab with a face and writing on it.  Burgess said it was a 40,000-year-old “voters license,” recovered from ancient caves in Chauvet, France in 1979.

That's the only source I've found so far of the quote, so...

Eleven Chicago police officers who were removed from Mayor Rahm Emanuel's security detail when he took office have filed a federal lawsuit alleging they were replaced by officers who had volunteered on the mayor's campaign.

The officers, who are white or Hispanic, also alleged discrimination, saying African-American officers on the detail with less seniority were not demoted at the time.

201 I didn't miss #5 either.  But I just can't generate righteous indignation over it, because I'm completely unsurprised.  I've always assumed that the Adminstration is going to ignore appropriations and just hand out as much money as they can to as many voters as they can to buy votes.

The fact that he has a law letting him do it? *shrug*  In what way has he ever been limited by a law saying he can't do something?

It's like the sequestration law he just signed.  He is supposed to report back in October.  He will ignore it and report after the election, if at all.  Rule of law is irrelevant to a tyrant.

202 I pulled that link from Drudge and I know nothing about Alex Jones. The story sounded valid to me.

Alex Jones is sort of the leader of the Tinfoil Hat Brigade.  That said, he's probably right on this one.  I always try to find some non-Infowars affiliated site to make sure he's not just being crazy, but he's gotten much better about using original sources (which should scare people).

I don't go over there unless something I've heard elsewhere leads there in the first place, and I always double-check anything Infowars says, but the actual reporting is not often wrong.

Whether the black helicopters or aliens really have it out for Mr. Jones or not is, of course, still an open question.

241 64 NGU,

A lot of military spouses and members go completely nuts during the cycle of deployments.  GIs "marry each other" downrange openly engaging in adultery, spouses openly carry on affairs with locals living high on the hog on the GIs money during the tour.  Then the fun begins during the part of the cycle between tours.

There was that spate of "corrective training sessions" where the combat arms soldiers were killing their spouses when they got home at Fort Bragg.  Now since we cannot admit that the force is jokingly small compared to mission and since the guys doing the trigger pulling on little darling were the same crew that had been extended several times downrange the answer became "reintegration training".  The DOD wizkidz punished the whole US Military.

Which is ok I guess.  It is sort of like a funhouse mirror version of TSA address all aspects of a problem BUT the problem.

I mean the US Navy has had "Girls and Boys Gone Wild" surrounding fleets leaving harbor for a long time without the whole murder as rebuttal thing.  It is I suppose a culture difference.  They tend to wait until the ship is over the horizon and then go find their "comforter", and are VERY careful to have the "comforter" gone by the time Sailor comes home.

US Army spouses tend to want to live the soap opera drama lifestyle.  Soldier comes home hot, sweaty, wanting to let their hair down and relax you know decompress and get their gameface back.  That is when they notice another guys' boots by the door and darling princess says "Honey you can sleep on the couch Jody and I will be in the bedroom we havea lot to talk about say goodnight to our kids."  Needless to say whether as overt as what I just typed or more subtle this does not go over well.

Princess is blowing the chest out of a guy or in some cases girl who has just been in a horribly ROE stupid environment that allows the OPFOR to tee off on them with relative impunity, and in some cases the response is "oh really BOOM".

Not implying by the way that any of the above is "normal", but ask any active duty member or spouse.

We've all seen cases like the above even if it is a matter of large orders of magnituides of difference.

Too many get married too young or have unrealistic ideas of what military married life is.  The spouses are drama queens who at this "training" try to compare having to actually *gasp* do laundry and walking the dog and getting the car fixed without their GI around to getting shelled by rocketfire at Kandahar at random intervals with no return fire because "there may be collateral".  I quit drinking when my son was 3 months old....about 12.75 years ago, the idiocy is when I am most tempted to start back up.

I just smile and then when my son is outside, my wife is finally to bed after a good hard tour I scream.

250 Enter Jesse Eisenberg, the Oscar-nominated star of "The Social Network." He must have spent all of 15 minutes on his essay. The actor says he's currently traveling through Mongolia and having to endure accommodations that can't compare to the five-star hotels he can sample back home. The President has also dealt with the hardships of international travel, and that's why Eisenberg will pull the lever for Obama on Nov. 6. We're not kidding. I think traveling and seeing how other people live, even if IÂ’m not totally immersing myself, assuages some of my unease because it re-sensitizes me to the difficulties and existential inconveniences that most other people face. In this way, I think Barack Obama is a good leader for our diverse country because he's seen how the world lives. It doesn't take a lot to realize that seeing the world forces you to interact with it in a different way and I know that I feel more comfortable being represented by someone who's seen it. And he is allowed to vote?

255 CBS still has the story about the shooter at the FRC. The comments are well predictable.

(101flyboy) And yes, if you are anti-gay, you are a BIGOT. Period. Same with racism, sexism, anti-semitism, nativism, anti-Christianity, we can go down the line, going out of your way to criticize and demonize a group of people for who they are is WRONG and it is BIGOTRY. And if social conservative, Republicans and Democrats alike, would stop doing that and attacking the gay community, then guess what, we wouldn't feel the need to defend ourselves. Some defend themselves in irrational ways, like Floyd Corkins here. But at the end of the day, we're not going to be tossed around like rag dolls anymore by society. It's not going to happen.

So he went in there to defend himself

(101flyboy) Funny how homophobes now think they're victims, or somehow on an equal playing field with the gay community. When the truth is, anti-gays choose to be bigots, and this action is a reaction of the hatred perpetrated by anti-gays. If people WEREN'T ANTI-GAY then this never would have happened. Just another example of how societally destructive homophobia is. Which is why it is considered a personality dysfunction in medical circles.

264 Another damned round of phony stimulus in which the labor department I'm wondering how Romney will handle this. So many government workers, etc are being held together by stimulus glue. Spurts here, spurts there, until election day. Then the whole thing collapses without more funding. O is leaving one helluva mess. One alternative I can see (other than Mitt just focusing on growing small businesses, and helping businesses in general grow), is to spin some of these gov entities out to private. Two things happen; one, gov shrinks as it should, and two, they would have to function like a normal business and hire/fire accordingly. That way, the dead weight would either have to kick it in and work for success or go to the unemployment line, being swapped out with one already there that can do the job.

I'm not saying you have to be monogamous (though, with your wife, if you aren't, I'll kill you), just don't come crying to me when you get drug-resistant gonorrhea. Don't expect me to pay for your treatment, and don't expect me to share any of the money I get when my reaction to the news gets me $10,000 from America's Funniest Videos.

Lol. Oh, trust me, monogamy is king at my house. For a bunch of reasons. When my wife and I were talking about getting married, divorce was discussed. My wife's comment was "I don't believe in divorce and it would be totally unnecessary. Anything that would cause me to want a divorce, I'd kill you for."

And you have to pay for any and every treatment I want, cause, Obama said so.

Does IL allow people with green cards to use those to get voter ID cards?  A green card, by definition says that you are not a citizen.

If some IL official issues a voter ID card based on a green card wouldn't that make them guilty of aiding and abetting a felony and provide traceable evidence that they did it?

"According to accounts from both Afghans and international observers, two NATO aircraft, later identified as American C-130s, made a low pass over a village of several hundred Afghans outside the city.

"Approximately 1.4 million M&Ms were to be delivered via Container Delivery System in a single package with a weight of 1500 lbs. Due to a malfunction in the static line, the parachute failed to deploy and the container crashed through the roof of a local school at nearly 100 miles per hour.

"Upon impact, the force of the rapidly settling candies caused the sides to explode outward, causing what physics professor Dr. Rosella Schwartz described as, “essentially a 360 degree anti-personnel mine full of chocolate flechettes.”

At first, you wonder if it's real - it sounds so surreal. But, either they anticipate a heavy backlash upon Obama's loss - or it is way deeper than that, and more dangerous. I remember months ago reading of how they are testing and exercising drone campaigns in the country. It may just be an extension of the reasons for that, but it doesn't match up to the reasons behind the drones - terrorist attack - unless they anticipate multiple cells coming loose at once. Which is very scary.

Once your in the country legally, you need to reside somewhere right, well Illinois provides state ID cards.

There are criteria for this of course, you know what satisfies 2 out of the 4 criteria, just so happens to be the most critical 2? An alien registration card.

The other criteria are supplying bill to an address, etc.

310 @257- "I think traveling and seeing how other people live, even if IÂ’m not totally immersing myself, assuages some of my unease because it re-sensitizes me to the difficulties and existential inconveniences that most other people face"

Yeah, well... I have "immersed" myself in cultures in South America, Asia, the Middle East, and some of the crappier parts of Europe- by working there in some just lovely manufacturing sites. I got "re-sensitized" real quick to "existential inconveniences"- little things like finding water one could actually drink without turning into an ambulatory Mr. Coffee, or wondering which local "authority" was going to f*ck with you that day because they could- in those places.

These "inconveniences" mystifyingly didn't exist in my own country.

At least they didn't until the last 3.5 years or so.

As such, I'm not comfortable with the dog gobbling multi passport/Social Security card holding dolt of dubious ancestry and nationality who brought these "inconveniences" into being in my country getting another 4 years to finish the job of turning the US into another dump replete with "existential inconveniences". No matter what some effete twatwaffle from Ivy land has to say about it.

2 groups of 12 per day.

Session runs between 2 -1/2 and 3 hours.

Catered by Panera.

Filmed from 3 angles

Break is recorded while moderator is out of room.

Discussion, group/individual reactions, dial session.

No McCain voters.  Only independent/light dem.

363 "Creator of Sergeant Rock and Haunted Tank, which were two of my favorite comics, back in the early 60s."

I did love Kubert's work. He always did his own inking, and it showed. He was one of the best at DC in the 60s, along with Neal Adams.
Nobody drew soldiers as gritty as Kubert's: unshaven, sweaty, their uniforms torn and filthy. I wonder if he was a vet.

He also drew a book about a German WWI ace; unfortunately, I can't remember the title, but it was outstanding. He also did a couple of stories for the short-lived "Blazing Combat" - only four issues published but all of them featuring top artists, including many of the old EC veterans.

I once had a golden-age book, a one-shot called "Jumbo Comics", that featured a strip by Kubert about a boxer. It was pretty bad, the drawing crude; but if I do my math correctly, he must have been all of 15 when he drew it.

364 If obama offers her the vp position she does have to take it if she wants to continue in politics. Posted by: yankeefifth at August 16, 2012 05:53 AM (Z9EHQ)

365 If Obama does actually use the nuclear option and boot Biden off the ticket, he will likely get a big (like ten points nationally big) boost in the polls. That must be hard to resist, considering how everything he's done up to now has left him treading water. I don't think it will happen, but the massive (and international) crush of positive attention would be a big mountain for Romney to climb in 2.5 months. Of course the timing, personalities, etc. mitigate the possibililty, but Hillary would be a plus for the ticket, at least at first.

It's not being catty to note that Hillary has let herself go. It's noting that a professional woman has decided that it's not worth the bother of washing her freaking hair before going to work. When a woman does that, she's given up. That's exactly what Hillary looks like right now, like a woman who has said screw it, I can't be bothered. Look, I've been in some pretty dark places in my life but I always tried to at least look presentable for work. It's not only professional but it's a sign that I view myself with respect. There's a reason why treatment for depression includes today you will get out of bed, you will shower, you will comb your hair and you will get dressed in clean clothes, including shoes. It's about treating yourself as a person of worth even when you don't feel like it. Hillary's given up on doing that. When I saw the pictures starting a few months back of how she's going out in public, I knew she'd given up on future political plans. Now, I could be wrong and maybe she'll pull it together but right now the signals are that she's said yup I'm done.

400 I'm standing by my statement that replacing Biden on the ticket is political suicide.

However, I can see them doing it.  If the internals are as disastrous as we think they might be, they would see it as their only shot at changing the dynamics of the race.

The Ryan choice may also have them truly flustered.  They didn't think there was any way Romney would make that choice, and they are finding out too late that Romney was lying in wait for their Mediscare tactics.

If they do it, then we can all breath a sigh of relief.  It means they know they are losing badly, and all we need is for Romney to execute his plan as designed.

406 The Clintons are teflon nothing sticks to them. Hillary is going to replace Biden, make no mistake. It will swing the election in Obamas favor. The Clintons are political animals they love this stuff. It would be sold as getting two Clintons for the price of one, there is a general consensus that Bill Clinton though flawed, was a good President. If they were to lose, it would be sold as Obama being so bad that not even the Clintons could save them. As I said nothing sticks to them. Posted by: General Woundwort at August 16, 2012 10:02 AM (06lNq) Replacing biden will not make any difference. This election is about obama, pure and simple

407 I'm standing by my statement that replacing Biden on the ticket is political suicide. Hillary is always ware of optics and how she looks.  Unlike the Choomiester posing in front of dying corn.  Her lack of upkeep is an outward sign she no longer has the fire and does not want to be there.  She is like a UAW worker on the floor who has been there 29 years, cant be fired and burnt out, so goes through the motions of working.

And she can dodge with a straight face any selection of her as VP.  All she has to do is, look at the situation around the world.  If you pull me out now to be your VP, State will be without a leader and things could implode.  Thus reflecting badly on the Obama administration.

Accepting being VP is a lose-lose situation for Hillary.

Reluctant conclusion: if the MSM defense of Obama continues to weaken from outright fanaticism down to mere adoration and eventually to loving shelter and protection (they will never actually criticize him) Obama or someone around him is going to panic, and when that happens he is going to try something un-constutional.

So the question is, will the MSM bail and potentially trigger an Obama apocalyptic move, or stand by him and let him walk smiling into an electoral shredder.

My vote is on the latter, with my fingers crossed.  It has the additional advantage of destroying the MSM along with Obama.

If we are lucky enough to get that far, the next big worry is... what will a lame-duck Obama and Dem Senate try to get up to before January 20?

It's interesting how the NY Times worries so much about the political fallout from Obama's reckless disclosure of classified information to boost his re-election prospects, but it doesn't seem to care about the real-world implications of what is on a par with treason by the Administration.  I guess the arrest of CIA informants doesn't mean much to the fucking Gray Lady.

Like that effort, which attacked Mr. Kerry’s military record in Vietnam, the Opsec site goes after Mr. Obama’s strong points on national security — specifically his role in overseeing the military-Central Intelligence Agency raid that killed Bin Laden, the founder of Al Qaeda, in May 2011.

... Sen. Dianne Feinstein: "I think the White House has to understand that some of this is coming from their ranks."

Hmm.  I wonder if Sen. Dianne Feinstein will speak at the Republican Convention ?

... “Swift Boat”:  code words for the inconvenient truth exposed.

491 460 Sherlock,

Counter proposal:

The media leadership has decided that given the state of the economic damage rendered by the one to a nation and democrat prospects, they are not at all unhappy with losing this race, nor tossing another useful idiot under the bus.

Result: Protection of the narrative and the tools to continue march towards destiny secured, and their power behind closed doors to democrat leadership once again asserted.

Time to recovery of trust of the American low information voter?

495 something un-constutional.

You know, I think we need to be more clear in our nomenclature regarding the constitutionality given laws, orders, and actions of the government.

I submit:
extra-constitutional: These are things for which there is a fig-leaf of legitamacy.  Things like the Interstate Highway system or (more controversially, and hated by the Right) some of the funding tricks the Government uses to coerce the States into certain behaviors.

unconstitutional: These are things for which there is simply no constitutional authority.  VRA comes to mind, as does ObamaCare

anti-constitutional: To be anti-constitutional, something must first be unconstitutional, but it must also go further than that- it must be actively destructive to the Constitution.  The DREAM EO falls into this, as it usurps authority rightly given Congress for the President.

Given those definitions, I expect SCOAMT to do something anti-constitutional if he seriously believes he's losing.

519 What a welcome change in the world of politics and a reflection of one way the world has become a better place...Biden represents the era of the gladhanding, bullshitting, smarmy and self-satisfied politician of the LBJ mode, the larger-than-life asshole who dominates the room. This has been effectively foretold in Coming Apart, the book that describes the fracturing of whites in America into the superior knowledge-based class and the inferior "backs." With all of the convoluted, complex, expensive and intrusive programs being run by the federal government, how about a simple, inexpensive one to ensure that every American over age 18 has a government photo ID? it could easily be administered in conjunction with a number of existing programs, e.g., selective service, social security, food stamps, and a host of others. What's not to like?

For Democrats, what's not to like is that they don't want them to have photo ID's, in order that they can claim that photo ID's are discriminatory and therefore can't be required as a condition of voting.

578 “Romney wants to let the–he said in the first 100 days he’s going to let the big banks once again write their own rules, unnnn-chain Wall Street. They’re going to put y’all back in chains."

A guy from Scranton living in Delaware on the public payroll since Obama was in grade school suddenly talking like a faux Southern preacher. The crowd approved. But elsewhere, the vice president of the United States looked, in the vivid image of Charles Krauthammer, like a crazy uncle in the attic. And this guyÂ’s a heartbeat away from the presidency?

The campaign reacted to the public shock in typical Obama fashion. ItÂ’s the countryÂ’s fault for hearing anything racial in that. Just like the lousy economy and poor job growth is always somebody elseÂ’s fault.

Remember back in 2008 when Obama was mocking then-opponent Hillary Clinton to a North Carolina crowd? As he spoke of her, he scratched his cheek with a middle finger, like some defiant high school boy behind the teacherÂ’s back. The crowd knew exactly what he was doing and hooted. Obama dragged the moment out.

His campaign spokesman then was shocked, he said, shocked that anyone could see anything like a senatorial bird. Again, someone elseÂ’s fault.

... Yeah.  It's never their fault .. they didn't do anything ... and that's the problem, they didn't do anything.

Yeah, the Nazis were dug in like ticks and had the terrain advantage and had clear lines of sight along the only road running past it headed north up the Italian countryside.  A rush up the hill was near suicidal.  Eventually that happened, but after lots and lots of bombing.

642 1) I don't share Vic's concern about the stimulus money going to local governments--those people were going to vote for him anyway, so it's really a negative as we can point out even more of the JEF's reckless spending.

2) Regarding the illegals getting "legalized" just enough to vote in IL. So? It's IL, the state is a lock for the JEF anyway. And as we discussed multiple times in the run-up to the WI elections earlier this year: The logistics of busing in 10k, 20k, or 50k voters is so huge that it can't happen. If it isn't close, they can't cheat. So long as the margin is over .5% to 1%, they can't cheat their way to a win.

649 Military burials for 4 forgotten vets By Steven Dubois - The Associated Press Posted : Wednesday Aug 15, 2012 15:47:04 EDT PORTLAND, Ore. — Four military veterans whose cremated remains sat unclaimed for decades in Oregon's state-run mental hospital were laid to rest Wednesday in Willamette National Cemetery. Val Conley, the deputy director of the state Department of Veterans' Affairs, accepted the United States flag on behalf of the men whose relatives could not be located. They were Army Pvt. James Butler, Army Sgt. William Madson, Navy Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class Frank Martin and Navy sailor Lanier Johnson, whose rank is unknown. Madson and Johnson served in World War I; the others served just before or during World War II. http://www.navytimes.com/news/2012/08/ap-forgotten-hospital-patients-vets-military-burials-081512/ The remains of the four men were placed together on a table at the ceremony. The canisters of the Army men were in green satchels, and the canisters of the Navy men in blue. They will each get markers at Oregon's largest military graveyard. "When I first got the information, I was little floored," Chaplain Thomas Phillips told the small gathering. "I said 'I haven't seen a World War I veteran in a long time.' "Then I found out what had happened," he continued. "We brought them home. We brought them home."

651 Nighthawk, that is a hard call.

The entire effort to Monte Cassino involved 2d New Zealand, 4th Indian, Polish II Corps, US 5th Army, and other units.  The US 142d Regiment was wiped out during the second attempt to take it.  The Polish II Corps lost 3,500 men on the final attempt.  There were a total of four attempts with such things as 229 heavy bombers and 2,000 artillery pieces used at different times.

658 Dang,

The hateful ugliness at Shooters is just sickening.  If only the Hitler Jungen had it so good.  The Nazis had to coerce and cajole good little Lutherans, Protestants, and Catholic children to become haters.  At places like Shooters, the haters select themselves for further training in hate.

670 I initially did not watch the OPSEC video. After I watched it yesterday, I was seething. Its excellent and lays it out for non-military types why Obama's big mouth endangers intel, operations, methods and lives. How do we get more people to watch it? Have TV spots been bought closer to the election or during the convention? He should be in jail.

674 In every way, Hillary on the ticket is a win win win for her. - stay in position of power/money (which she needs in order to run in the future) - swooping in to "help" the Dem Party (who she is 100% loyal to: save the party!) - she can claim the VP doesn't have the power over Obama so it's not her fault - she can be seen as a contrast to Obama - more limelight - she ups her cred - first woman VP - Bill gets back in the game more so There is zero downside to this. Obama needs to change the narrative, and fast. The Ryan announcement has destroyed everything they hoped to accomplish. The standard fall back position of race baiting will not work. This would be a game changer. I hope like hell they keep Biden. But, it's too easy to dump him now. The brain surgery has effected him. He really needs a break. Or, I'm stepping down to allow the first woman VP from my party! says Joe. I can see this easily. Then Joe will be put in a rubber room, away from all media until after the elections.

678 "I thought the new park was new comiskey?"

Looked it up, think we're both right-

It appears when the place opened in 1991, it was called "New Comiskey".

But in 2003, it was renamed to US Cellular Field.

Given that lil' joey has been making doodles with his doo doo since about '94, in his strangely hued world the Sox probably do still play at Comiskey.

679 579 For a while now, I've been saying that there's a better than not chance that Biden was going to get the boot. Obama desperately needs to energize his flailing reelection bid. Now more so than ever, given the likability of Paul Ryan, given Sloe Joe's ridiculous gaffes. I keep wondering....if Hillary really is, at heart, a Alinsky marxist, or of that bent, why would she not step in to help the JEF achieve what she believes in as well? Despite the fact that she hates his guts? Their goals are the same.

I totally agree.  And for the people wondering what Hillary! has to gain from this...remember that she would only be one heartbeat away from the Presidency IF the SCFOAMF is relected.  That makes it a little more interesting, huh?  Also, what about all the dirt she knows on Obama?

683 Obama's deleted the educational requirements for illegal aliens to gain tax funds -- to simply submit a letter of intention, to either enroll or attend a GED program, rather than to had completed the GED or HS Diploma to qualify for jobs, hence to qualify for unemployment above and beyond welfare.

Politicians could take a lesson in "wisdom" from King Solomon regarding benefits/entitlements for aliens, based upon skills and labor production for public works. No work, no "benefit".

2 Chronicles 2:
17Solomon took a census of all the aliens who were in Israel, after the census his father David had taken; and they were found to be 153,600. 18He assigned 70,000 of them to be carriers and 80,000 to be stonecutters in the hills, with 3,600 foremen over them to keep the people working.

685 Query, in timing its strike on Iran, how much is Israel factoring in U.S. politics?  I think that Israel will time its attack to do maximum damage to Barky's re-election prospects.

The wild card is, how will low-info voters react to a major military situation in the Middle East, in terms of voting behavior?  A pre-election attack could spur a "rally-round-the-president" reflex that would help keep Jugears in office.  I'm sure the Israelis have devoted considerable attention to predicting what the reaction would be.

Funny thing: she accuses him of lying and of hiding assets during the pre-nup but has filed an affidavit stating that she would still vote for him just as she has done for "years." Yeah, because he's a lying crook he's a shitty husband, but the good news is he has every quality I want in a congressman.

690 Total dead thread and old message: I am more concerned law enforcement is buying hollow points. Posted by: yankeefifth at August 16, 2012 08:46 AM (Z9EHQ) We seem to have a lot of visitors from the 1970s on the blog lately. Welcome to 2012! BTW hollowpoints are standard for carry now, partly because there is less risk of overpenetration and injuring bystanders. They're actually *safer*, as well as being more effective, than ball ammunition. I certainly do not have knowledge of all law enforcement agencies, but I haven't run across any still using ball ammunition.
